breaking news at five.49ers legend dwight clark - best known for "the catch" has died at the age of 61. hello i'm vicki liviakis.(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan in for grant lodes. diagnosed with lou gehrig's disease. his wife announced his death on twitter. saying in part "i'm heartbroken to tell you that today i lost my best friend and husband. he passed peacefully surrounded by many of the people he loved most. i am thankful for all of dwight's friends, teammates and 49ers fans who have sent their love during his battle with a-l-s.(vicki) here now to talk more about dwight clark - kron4 sports director gary radnich. the very sad news the very sad news today. after a very public battle with a-l-s...

last october dwight clark was honored at levi's stadium... as he publically said goodbye to the ers faithfull... almost 30 members of the niners 1981 super bowl team were there... including joe montana... and even some... like steve young... who weren't on that team.. were also in attendance... clark... a two- time super bowl champion... two-time all-pro... was already is suffering from a-l-s... which he announced back in may his former teammates were decked out in clark's familiar number-87 jersey... they d a team reunion before the game... and a special cerimony on the field for clark at halftime... who sat up in a box with former 49ers owner... eddie debartolo... during the clark gave special thanks to "eddie d"(sot: dwight clark)

(vicki) this just in. san francisco police chief bill scott áwill notá be leaving for los angelels. he had been a finalist for l- a's top cop job... but today the los angeles police department announced it would be promoting the current assistant chief instead. before coming to san francsico in 2017 - chief bill scot had served 27 years in the los angeles police department. (vicki) happening now--- marin county is seeing a spike in whooping cough cases. they are actually have the second highest number of reported cases of the diease in california so far this year.

kron4's maureen kelly talked to the health department in the county about why this is happening and what they are doing to keep it from spreading. in january local doctors in marin county saw a spike of whooping cough cases...around 30 total ....amoung local high school students.and that trend is contining upwards.to date we've had over 130 cases that's the second highest number of reported cases in the state so far this year. the deputy health director for marin county says it's a disease that's can be hard to diagnose. it's normally it presents normally like a common cold often it's often not diagnosed by many physicians but we see it's more severe in children specially in very young infants where they have a more typical whooping sound to their cough the marin county health department is reaching out to those exposed to make sure any infants or pregnant women in their households that they are protected. during the last big california outbreak in 2014, two babies died. it's reccommended that newborns get their first vaccine in the five shot series starting at 2 months. students are required to get a

attempting to aid a terrorist organization. prosecutors say the former tow truck driver from modesto told undercover agents he planned to use pipe bombs to channel victims into part of pier 39-- so he could shoot them. under a plea agreement - prosecutors are dropping a second charge of distributing bomb-making information. (vicki) a big story we are following tonight-- after a spate of suicides along the caltrain tracks a few years ago in palo alto, it was decided that the best way to stop that from happening is to keep people away from the tracks. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us now live from palo alto where new video surveillance cameras are up and running. rob? (rob live) the cameras will be keeping tabs on the tracks here at meadow drive and the caltrain crossings at nearby charleston, churchill and palo alto avenues. testing is under and the system should be fully perationalin about two weeks. mounted on poles high above the tracks the cameras can see much farther than the human eye, at least a thousand feet in either direction. they can

(vicki) a wildfire is burning in southern california tonight. it's happening northeast of los angeles-- and right now structures areg threatened. theos angeles county fire department says the blaze is now one- thousand acres and growin a few ranches and other properties are under evacuation orders. firefighters are trying to keep flame from racing through dry brush and down hillsides into populated areas near aqua dulce. this fire comes as firefighters are patrolling for hotspots in the aftermath of a weekend wildfire that forced the evacuation of about 2,000 mes in orange county. the fire there burned in aliso viejo lana beach. and there was another blaze that forced residents from 80 homes in san diego. (vicki) that's according to a new study that says many women with a common form of breast cancer can safely skip chemotherapy. reid binion reports. for women diagnosed in the early stages of one of the most common forms of breast cancer -- treatment may get a little easier.genetic tests are enabling researchers to identify multiple types of breast cancer and tailor treatment plans.a recent study suggests some forms of the disease might not even require chemotherapy.the study applies to estrogen-sensitive women with early-stage tumors -- below 5 centimeters -- that have ánotá spread to the lymph nodes. these women also have intermediate scores on a
