( robin )people across the bay area are reacting to the latest p-g-&- e announcement. the company says it may áátemporarily turn off customer's power.... during extremely hot weather that could potentially lead to fires. kron 4's hermela aregawi the details. (hermela aregawi)some mixed reactions.. no one seems to think this is a good long term plan. but some people say.. it makes sense to do anything they can to prevent fires like the ones we saw in the north bay.. but they say.. the heat in and of itself can be danagerous especially to those

who are more vulnerable to it. up to half a million customers across the bay area may temporarily lose their electricity. pg&e says it's an effort to prevent a massive fire as the temperature heats up. matt nauman/spokesperson, pg&e and this basically says if conditions exist, temperature, wind, humidity, how dry the fuel is. we might proactively turn off your power. we would let you know as much in advance as we could. in the best scenario we would let you know 48 hours that this is a possibility. 24 hours that it's still a possibility. then 4 to 6 hours before it happened we would let you know that we would do this. we want to let people know this really is a sort of last resort and the focus is on safety.we spoke with customers who say.. this should not be a permanent solution but some supported the plan for now. sanjay lakhotia/customeri think for now it makes sense but i think in the future they have to take care of the situation, polls falling over and having fires for that reason so i think that should be the long term plan. i think there should definitely be a study done or something to understand what made the danger.other say they are really concerned for the safety of their children, the eldery and those who rely on electricity for medical equipment. peter and jamie chung/customeri don't know i think it's almost dangerous. it gets over a 100 in walnut creek and we have a small child. so i don't know. we would have to go somewhere else that has power. i'm hoping they don't shut off everybody's power so at least we can maybe go to a relatives house, someone that doesn't live in walnut creek(hermela aregawi)pg and e says this is not a reaction to the north bay fires investigation.. they
