this morning from union city. 5 people were shot at chapel of the chimes memorial park and funeral home. it happened around 7 o'clock last night. police say four victims were taken to nearby hospitals... and one victim drove themself to a hospital. at last check... the condition of those victims are unknown at this time. ( robin )newly released police body camera video... shows the dramatic images as a san francisco police officer opened fire on a suspect in north beach. we want to warn you... some of the sights and sounds of the video may be disturbing. police body camera video shows what led to the incident early

saturday morning..an officer makes contact with a group of four when they see them with an open alcohol container one guy took off running .the cop chased him and video shows the officer shooting the man on a busy sidewalksan francisco police presented it to the public at a town hall thursday nightthe man is 28-year-old oliver barcenasnatalie april worked with barcenas at a flower company..she describes him as a really sweet person.. sotmany residents here upset with the footage sotsotsot although facing criticism, police say the goal is to be transparent sot ( robin ) ( robin ) that was kron 4's gayle ong

reporting. police say they recovered a firearm at the scene. they would not give out the officer's name or how long he's been with s-f-p-d. ( robin )a san francisco woman pleaded not guilty to a murder charge yesterday. she's accused of killing and dismembering her roommate. lisa gonzalez entered the plea thursday. prosecutors say... gonzalez told police, she and her roommate argued back in may.. after her roommate refused to move out. but, she says she does not remember what happened next. police who went to the home roughly two weeks later .. found the dismembered body. a full report on the victim is expected in the coming weeks. ( robin )in the east bay... police are searching for the shooter...in connection with

the death of a man. it happened wednesday night... on west street in oakland. officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene... where he later died. the victim's name has not yet been released. ( robin )another big story in the east bay... a high school teacher at bentley school in lafayette, was in court thursday. brandon genest is accused of sexually assaulting two young children he was babysitting. as kron-4's dan kerman tells us... investigators are looking at the possibility of additional victims. 27 year old brandon genest is charged with sexually assaulting 2 children he was babysitting in walnut creek ... one age 6, the other age 7... and authorities believe there are likely additional victimssot paul graves/senior deputy district attorney 12-24 there's obviously a lot of concerned parents who had interaction with him and we are going through those phone calls , interviewing children and determining if additional charges will be coming and i anticipate there will bethe da's office says in addition to lewd acts with a child and child molesting, genest has

been charged with indecent exposure and possession of child pornography... authorities say the suspect was advertising on numerous websites including sittercity, urban sitter, care and a variety of facebook groupssot what is troubling to me too he was advertising for a lot of special needs kids, so this is a complex investigation and one we are continuing and will not give up until we've turned over every stone and made sure every victim's voice has been heard in this investigation.it turns out babysitting was only genest's after hours job. since august of last year he has spent his days here at the bentley school in lafayette where he was a chemistry teacher. though the da says at ts time there is no indication anything happened with any of the students there. prior to that police confirm he was a child care provider in fairfax county virginia ... a web search finds in 2015 a brandon genest was a staff member at a camp in gainesville virginia. on

his bio it says i babysit for several families in the northern virginia area... even since i was a child myself, i always enjoyed working with those younger than i am. standup dan kerman/martinez 141-151genest remain here at the contra costa county jail in lieu of 1.2 million dollars bail. he is due back in court on june 18. in martienz, dan kerman kron 4news ( robin ) police in san francisco arrested and charged a man... for kicking and killing a small dog. police say 24-year-old nicholas cornelius was seen on video abusing the three-year-old dog. it happened earlier this month in an alley off market street.. near the montgomery bart station. the dog-- named puppet-- suffered a fractured skull and died from his injuries. cornelius is facing felony animal cruelty. ( robin )a woman connected to a suspicious fire at a pre- school in union city .. has now been taken into custody. 39-year-old kristina romo was arrested for attempted arson at the safari kids pre-

school... police say they were able to catch romo after a person identified her from surveillance video. the fire was first reported last month. investigators say, the motive is still not clear. ( robin )an overhaul might be coming to the united states' immigration system. republicans have unveiled a draft bill on the matter and there are critics of the proposal. reporter john lorinc has the details. after weeks of backstage talks, house republicans release a draft proposal on immigration.rep. paul ryan/r- house speaker"we've been in meetings hour after hour, day after day or between moderates and conservatives to find a path forward." it's the most concrete step g-o-p leadership has taken on the matter.jeff sessions/u.s. attorney general "it's time that we finally deliver a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest benefits the american people."the proposal includes 25-billion for border security, including funds for president trump's long- promised border wall.....and a pathway to citizenship for daca recipients.sen. chuck schumer/d-minority leader"i've

unified school district just finished taking applications to create a task force. the plan is to map out what it will look like if the city's main high schools were to be combined. a decision has not been made yet, but it is already causing some concerns. kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to school officials and has the details. the district tells me.. it's the district tells me.. it's essentially tells me.. it's the district tells me.. it's essentially about maximing the schools' resources, teachers, their salaries, the kind of classes offered, sports and so on.. the district is looking for parents, teachers, business experts to figure out how this merger will impact this communityalameda's two main high schools may merge in the coming years.it's an idea the district is considering after being strapped for resources.susan davis/alameda unified school districtour employee salaries are about 10 % less than the county average

and so we are looking for ways to free up money to improve our employee salaries. the other reason is for issues of equity and opportunity. when we have two smallish schools, we are not able to give a truly comprehensive secondary education to our students and we are hoping we can provide more courses for more students. about 1800 students attend alameda high.. while encinal has about 1300 .we spoke with some of them about the potential merger.. and got some mixed reactions.katherine legg/sophomore alameda high schoolmy sister went here for all four years. and she had a lot of friends and there were connections within classes so whenever she was having trouble in a class, it was a lot easier to connect with people. and it was a lot easier to get in touch with teachers and i definitely valued that and i fear that if we merged with encinal, we would have problems with that. brian del cid/student, encinal high schoooli think it would be really cool because encinal has a lot of sports kind of facilities and alameda has a theater based facility so it

would be cool to combine the two and kind of have like a super school.but students also had questions. brian del cid/student, encinal high schoooli think one of the things would be the campuses because alameda and encinal are really developed if we were to coine the schools it will be kind of hard to say like oh are half of the students going to be here or are half of the students going to be on alameda's campus the district says.. those are some of the questions among others thboard will answer.san davis/alameda unified school districtwe will be looking at traffic around the island, transportation, will all of our students still be able to get to school pretty easily. some issues about culture. the two schools tend to have a different culture. would it be a problem there. how would it affect sports, how would it affect leadership positions, the arts, drama, music theater. (hermela aregawi)the deadline to apply to be on the board was today at 5 oclock in the evening. the district spokesperson tells me they've received about 40 applications. in late june they will vote on the members.. and then there will be public meetings from

septemember to january. the district spokesperson tells me even if a decision is made to merge.. it likely won't be implemented for a few years. reporting in alameda hermela aregawi kron 4 news ( robin ) london breed will be next mayor of san francisco... and now she's taking her victory lap. breed spoke at árosa parksá elementary school yesterday morning. that's the school she attended as a child. breed said walking the halls brought back fond memories. but she also thought about the questions she had as a young girl... about some of the community's problems. ( robin ) several hundred supporters

gave breed a warm welcome. she's promising to build more affordable housing so people don't have to move to cheaper cities. breed was raised by her grandmother in city public housing. breed will also make a stop here at our studio during the 9'oclock hour... to talk about her new position as mayor. ( robin )in san jose... 35 people are being treated in the hospital..after being exposed to a toxic cloud at a swim club. kron-4's justine waldman has the story. an empty pool at the shadow brook swim club on a hot summer day.all because of a haz-mat scare here late in the afternoon thursday.captain mitchell matlow / san jose fire department"what we learned happened was a chemical guy here at the pool putting chemicals into the system for distribution through the normal mechanisms and accidentally put muriatic acid in with chlorine or chlorine in with muriatic acid

crashes into a home. it happened thursday morning just after eight. officers responded to a call about the accident on glenside drive near burton drive. one person had to be rescued from the vehicle... and was taken to a hospital. no other injuries have been reported... and it is unknown what caused the car to crash into the home. ( robin )a woman's body was found floating in a creek in fairfield. police got to scene around 9 a-m yesterday. the creek is near the railroad tracks off union avenue in fairfield. police say someone riding the train reported the body. they are investigating the incident for more details. ( robin )a fairfield woman is in the hospital this morning ... after being mauled by her áown dog. neighbors say, they heard the screams from as far as three- blocks away. police say, the attack happened in the 29-year-old woman's backyard... while she was opening the dog's kennel to give it water. when officers arrived on scene, the woman was laying face down and bleeding profusely from both

arms. ( robin ) the woman was airlifted to a trauma hospital, where she remains in serious condition. her relative says, her husband often takes in strays. one neighbor believes the couple was breeding dogs, and in the past... has complained to police. other neighbors say, they have seen as many as two dozen large-sized dogs in the couple's yard. ( robin )san francisco is now reconsidering the removal of a statue near city hall. the 19th century statue shows a native american sitting at the feet of a spanish cowboy and a catholic missionary. those against the statue have been calling for it's removal saying the statue is racist and demeaning to native americans. last april the board of appeals decided the statue should stay due to it's history. a new hearing to decide the fate of the statue will be held this summer.

( robin )in the north bay... a petaluma teen is speaking out, after being silenced during her high school graduation speech. 17-year-old lulabel seitz says she was sexually assaulted by another student at petaluma high school and when she tried to address the issue during her graduation speech, the school turned off her microphone. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with seitz who says she has been overwhelmed by the response. back on june 2nd, petaluma high school valedictorian lulabel seitz took to the podium at her graduation. a few minutes into her speech, the honor student deviated from her prepared remarks. she expressed frustration with how she says the school handled her claims of being sexually assaulted by another student, that's when the school turned off her microphone.natssotat first i was really surprised and a little disappointed. i thought for once they would let a student speak. that didn't happen. my second though was i just had to stand there

until they let me speak.the school district has said that her audio was turned off because she deviated from the script that was given to the school prior to graduation, something seitz admits she did on purpose.she says her previous attempts to have her alleged attacker disciplined had failed, so she took this opportunity to speak out publicly. since then, seitz says she has been harassed and threatened online but has also received hundreds of messages of support. many from women who have had a similar experience.soti'm happy i was able to speak up about a problem that other people have too.natsthursday afternoon kron 4 reached out to petaluma city schools for comment. i did speak with someone in the superintendent's office, but as of late thursday afternoon they have not responded to our request.even though she has now graduated, seitz says she will keep pushing for the school district to reform the way sexual assault issues are handled.soti hope that the school board and the administration takes this as a reason to change. in petaluma, charles clifford kron 4 news. ( robin )for your health this morning... alameda county health officials say there is a spike of whooping cough cases compared to this time

last year. from january through may-- there were 180 cases of whooping cough... and over 60-percent of cases are among teenagers. back in 20-17 there were only 40 cases. the illness is a highly contagious respiratory disease. it is spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. people with whooping cough can spread the disease from the time when they get a runny nose until three weeks after their cough starts. pregnant women and people who are near and around infants and children are encouraged to get vaccinated. health officials have added the state of california to the list where cut melon may be contaminated with salmonella. food and drug administration officials say pre-cut watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe sold at well- known grocery stores have been recalled. somof those stores include walmart, wlagreens and even costco. anyone who has recently purchased cut melons are advised to throw it away.

guys have a green light too but they have to wait for this one to go so they stop right in the middlefirst off there is a red transit lane and its for muni buses only . it's not for uber or lyft because it only has a bus signal nats: ambiance second, there absolutely is no turn on red .but it would seem that is only a suggestion..(traffic sounds)since drivers are not permitted to be in the dedicated transit lane you can only turn right ...but don't tell this driver ..(traffic sounds) or this driver in the volkswagen (traffic sounds)now this is one of those intersections with a stop sign and a traffic signal many of the drivers who have the stop sign only see the green light nats: ambianceso i touched on the drivers, who appear to be very attentive to their surroundings... let's see how the pedestrians are getting aroundthey give you 10 seconds (actually they give them 20 seconds) to cross from here up to there but actually older people like me make it haf the way and then wait and wait for the traffic to go and then by the time we start crossing the other cars from the top and from the bottom starts coming i get pushed around all the

( robin )with summer looming and temperatures rising, rattlesnakes are out and about... but there are ways to avoid them. the group - ánatural solutions wildlife enterprisesá held a training yesterday.. on avoiding rattlesnakes. not just for humans, but for dogs as well. the groups' staff fit the dogs with a shock collar. pet owners would shock the dogs when they get too close to something they should not ... like the sight and smell of a rattlesnake, the smell of the shedded skin, or the sound of the rattle. one expert says, dogs are very intrigued by snakes. morning... the driver who kidnapped a woman and led san francisco police on a chase before crashing in emeryville has been charged with murder. michael brown is being charged for the june 10th crash which killed daphne bailey. brown and bailey are suspected of kidnapping a woman and putting her in the trunk of the car. brown then led police on a chase across the bay bridge into emeryville where he crashed into a pole. he was able to escape the crash but bailey did not. brown remains the hosptial this morning in police custody. ( will ) a judge has denied a motion by max harris to delay his trial for the deadly oakland ghost ship fire. harris' lawyer wanted to postpone the trial which is scheduled to begin on july 16th until septemper. harris' team wanted more time to study the cause of the fire at the warehouse. the judge said that harris' experts should have plenty of time to complete their work. ( james ) in the north bay... a petaluma teen is speaking out... after being

silenced during her high school graduation speech.( will ) 17-year-old lulabel seitz says she was trying to address her own sexual assault. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with seitz... who says she has been overwhelmed by the response. back on june 2nd, petaluma high school valedictorian lulabel seitz took to the podium at her graduation. a few minutes into her speech, the honor student deviated from her prepared remarks. she expressed frustration with how she says the school handled her claims of being sexually assaulted by another student, that's when the school turned off her microphone.natssotat first i was really surprised and a little disappointed. i thought for once they would let a student speak. that didn't happen. my second though was i just had to stand there until they let me speak.the school district has said that her audio was turned off because she deviated from the script that was given to the school prior to graduation, something seitz admits she did on purpose.she says her previous attempts to have her alleged attacker disciplined had failed, so she took this opportunity to speak out publicly. since then, seitz says she has been harassed and threatened online but has also received hundreds of messages of support. many from women who have had a similar experience.soti'm happy i was

of those hospitalized were children... the youngest patient was 6 years old. ( james ) a san francisco woman pleads not guilty to murder... after she's accused of killing and dismembering her roommate. prosecutors say lisa gonzalez told police

that she and her roommate argued back in may... after her roommate refused to move out. gonzalez says she does ánot remember what happened next. ( will ) in the east bay... oakland police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man. it happened on west street in oakland. officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene. the victim's name has not yet been released or a possible motive ( will ) police in san francisco have arrested a man for killing a small dog. police say 24-year-old nicholas cornelius was seen on video abusing the three-year-old terrier mix. it happened earlier this month in an alley off market street.. near the montgomery bart station. the dog-- named puppet-- suffered a fractured skull and died from his injuries. cornelius is facing felony animal cruelty charges. ( will ) a fairfield woman is in the hospital... after she was mauled by her own dog. neighbors say they heard the screams from as far as

improvement. ( will ) in the east bay... oakland police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man. it happened on west street in oakland. officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene. the victim's name has not yet been released. clarity. the water visibility at lake tahoe has dropped by nine feet. experts are blaming the extreme drought that was followed by heavy rainfall. this caused thousands of tons of sediment to fill the lake... and drop the clarity of the water to just under 60 feet. ábut these numbers were recorded last year... and experts report more recent numbers are showing improvement.
