story. d-h-s defends the border separations and detentions.and say it will continue to enforce the law enacted by congress.as video of detainees in cages emerge ... children cry after being separated from their parents.the president has the full authority to stop the separation of children from their parents. it's his attorney general jeff sessions that announced the policy in april of zero tolerancethat means criminally prosecuting anyone that crosses the border illegally.those 2 things are unprecendented. no other president has allowed that to happencritics are calling on president trump to stop the practice ... he blames it on the democrats.president trump: "if democrats would sit down instead of obstructing we could have something done very quickly - good for the children, good for the country, good for the world." released today .... child: "daddy!""daddy! daddy!"audio recorded at a detention facility ... homeland security secretary .... defending the policy. kirstjen nielsen / u.s. secretary of homeland security claiming these children and their parents are treated inhumanely is not true and completely disrespects the hard-working men and women at the office of refugee resettlement. the trump administration has the power to end the separations by shifting its policy. and on capitol hill, members from both parties are calling on the president to step in. rep. will hurd, (r) texas:"i don't think separating a kid from their mommy will prevent terrorists or drugs from coming into our country. how do the parents know where the kids are?"rep. mark pocan / -d- wisconsin: "you don't think a child who is in this facility who has a 6 by 10 living area - by the way a supermax prison cell is 8 by 12 - a six by ten area and you get out two hours a day? that to i think a child 10 years old is a prison."the white house says the goal of the border policy is to deter illegal border crossings --- one of those alleged crossings turning deadly sunday. but those who oppose the harsh law say ...we shouldn't forget these people that are coming are fleeing some pretty bad violence. domestic, gang and cartel violence.according to the d-h-s, at least two- thousand immigrant children were separated from their families between april and may, under the new "zero tolerance" policy.president trump is scheduled to talk immigration with congressional republicans on tuesday. border detention could possibly be part of the conversation.pam ....

(robin) in an audio recording... you can hear children crying for their parents after being separated at the border. the investigative non-profit group "pro-publica" says the audio was recorded at a detention facility last week. the children you are about to hear are between 4 and 10 years old. secretary kirstjen nielsen says she has ánot heard the audio... but says the children are being treated humanely. (robin) u.s. senator dianne feinstein issued a statement saying in part -- "there's no law requiring the separation of families. president trump could end this immoral policy today. if he won't, congress must act." (robin) in the north bay... the santa rosa fire department is investigating several suspicious brush fires. over the weekend, firefighters answered a number of calls for brush fires. kron 4's terisa estacio talked to firefighters and has the story.

terisa estacio, reporting, santa rosa. i am in this neighborhood off of dutton in santa rosa, and right over there,is the santa rosa creek trail at dutton avenue... sgt. marcus sprague, santa rosa police dept. this is where one of the fires occurred right off of road along and second one just down 50 yards on the trail. we had a total of 13 fires and now looking for the publics help. sgt. marcus sprague with the santa rosa police department on these suspicious fires over the weekend. sgt. sprague. what is your biggest concern? it is getting drier. we live here, we don't want another big fire storm. we are just starting to rebuild. the sgt. says so far, their evidence points to someone or several people on bicyles. sgt. sprague. no indication of tools, but probably someone on a bike. please call if you were out saturday night around midnight. as for motive, sgt sprague says it is difficult to understand how anyone could act out like this... given the widespread devastation including the many people killed in the fires back in the fall. sgt. sprague. i can't imagine. motiviation. there is a 2500 dollar reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects. in santa rosa,

terisa estacio kron four news. ### (robin)(robin) (robin) state lawmakers are talking about potential policy changes on how harassment cases are handled at the capitol. a survey, involving workers in the legislature found that capitol employees are dealing

with more harassment than those working in the district offices. lawmakers now have a draft plan to address the problem. anit includes creating an independent panel of experts to look at the cases... then make recommendations to the legislature. (robin) the sub- committee on sexual harassment prevention and response is expected to meet again on thursday ... to vote on the recommendations.. (robin) in the east bay... police in hercules are looking for two men who robbed a home depot twice in less than a week. kron 4's charles clifford has the story. the hercules police department says police the hercules police department says that back on june 12th officers responded to home depot on

reports of someone stealing power tools just before 930 in the morning. the suspect were described as african american adult males and surveillance video from the store shows at least one of the men carrying several large items as he leaves the building without paying.witnesses reported that the suspects were driving a black bmw with dealer plates. officers spotted the vehicle leaving the araea on west bound 80 but following a short pursuit the suspects escaped. two days later on june 14th, officers again responded to the home depot on reports of robbery. this time the video show a single suspect who bears a strong resemblance to the suspect from two days earlier. he also appears to be taking some of the times as before. according to police, the suspect put the tools in a shopping cart and left through the contractor exit, passing right by two registers without paying. the suspect then loaded the tools into a blue nissan maxima, which had tape covering the license plates and fled the area. a second occupant was also seen in the vehilce.so far police have not identified these suspects, nor

do we know the value of the items that were taken. (robin) in the east bay... the victim of a heatbreaking theft now begging for help. the ashes of her mother stolen out of her own home. kron 4's j.r. stone has more on who police are looking for. sot i just want my mom back marjorie ferguson is broken up and begging for help. within the last week a thief broke into the rv she is living in with her husband and stole numerous items...includin g the keepsake urn that held a portion of her mother's ashes. sot they took a wooden box.....that had my mother's urn in it with her ashes and her rosery beads and an angel and different memorabilia stuff that i had packed away to keep with me and i just want that back i want my mom's ashes backit has been a tough

couple of weeks for marjorie. she and her husband were forced out of their home, they are living in this r.v. and have been unable to find an affordable site to park it. days after they began living on the streets in the r-v the ashes were stolen. the keepsake urn looks similar to this only teal in color according to those at the skyview cemetary in vallejo where the urn was purchased. most of marjorie's mother's ashes were buried but these were stolen.sot and i'm just begging pleading whoever did this i don't need to know your name or anything if you would just return my mother's urn please (robin) (robin) that was kron4's

j-r stone reporting. marjorie says the urn is the size of a large salt or pepper shaker. she is hopeful that someone will drop it off at a police station. (robin) san francisco police say they've arrested the man captured on surveillance video átwice... kicking homeless people... has been arrested. the latest incident happened near san francisco's tenderloin on may 24th on leavenworth street. a homeless man was lying down on the sidewalk when the man approached him and without warning... started kicking his face. in the other attack... police say the same man approached another homeless man and kicked him, police arrested samuel youmtoub on suspicion of aggravated assault. (robin) happening tonight.. the first mosquito fogging of the season is taking place in sunyvale. the concern is growing over the increase of west nile

virus in the bay area. vector control says that along with mosquitoes... crows are also carrying the virus. crews will be fogging several blocks bordered by east arquez avenue on the north... the el camino on the south.. fair oaks on the west and bowers avenue on the east. residents in the foggin zone believe this is important. the fogging will end overnight at two in the morning. four people have contracted west nile virus in southern california. none so far in the bay area. (robin) powerful images from hurricane irma ... seawater surging into the lobbies of miami beach highrises. and a new report now says, scenes like this could become (robin) the union of

concerned scientists predicts, rising sea levels will almost certainly drive tens of thousands of americans from their homes by the year 2045. kron4's catherine heenan has the story. drone nathundreds of miles of shoreline in the bay ... the report says by the year 2045, thousands of people now living on the water will find themselves living in the water. the worst flooding will be concentrated in san rafael, san mateo and san jose.in the north bay, more than 2=thousand homes worth nearly one=billions dollars are at risk.on the peninsula, nearly 4=thousand homes worth more than two billion will be flooded.and in the south bay, 26=hundred homes worth two point six billion.by comparison, the study found fewer than 3=hundred san francisco homes in peril, 6=hundred in alameda, 100 in fremont and 54 in hayward. statewide, california's loss to the rising seas is expected

to top 15=billion dollars worth of real estate, less than new jersey and florida, where the lost homes could be worth more that 50=billion.in florida alone as many as 100=thousand people may be displaced. (robin) a stunning site for beachgoers in santa cruz county. a dead, great white shark washed ashore on 'beer can beach in aptos.. kron4's michelle kingston spoke to one of the men who helped move the carcass -- it measured about nine- feet long... and weighed about 500- pounds. (robin) in the east bay ... a new safety lane for bicyclist is frusturating drivers in concord. they say the problem with the green bike box... is due to the lack of signage... some drivers and bicyclist don't exactly know how it works. the new bike lane was painted back in may. city officials are trying to make the intersection of grant and willow pass road less dangerous. they say drivers cannot make a right turn on a red light.

(robin) a merchant in san frcisco's chinatown is facing 14 misdeamnor charges for allegedly selling counterfeit . kron4's maureen kelly talked to the city's district attorney... who says several people got sick because of these practices the san francisco district attorney says an undercover investigation was launched into the hue an company here on jackson street after people reported getting violently ill from an allergic reaction from drugs being dispensed by the owner....bihn vi.he was selling over the counter counterfeit, mislabeled and sometimes drugs without a prescriptionthe 67 year old store owner did not want to go on camera but told me he's been at this location since 1989. he pleaded not guilty to the charges. his attorney said in a statement "mr. vi is a law-abiding family man and longtime san franciscan who is looking forward to clearing

his name in court." today the d-a along with public health officials talked to seniors at the self help for the elderly because they believe there are other victims out there.....and not only from this one case. it's a national problem, in 2014 federal agents seized about 73 million worth of counterfeit and adulterated drugs in this country they warned those in the audience to make sure if they are buying prescriptions to make sure the dispensary's liscense is displayed...and if they aren't asked for a prescription...that's a red flag that it's an illegal operation.you have to ask yourself for the cost savings if it isn't worth my health is it worth the long-term potential effects. they were also warned to watch out for medications that come in packaging not property sealed, and make sure the pills are consistant in shape color and size.you might be getting a drug that and has not enough the active ingredient or none of the egg active ingredient anyone who believes they've been sold counterfiet drugs can call the california department of public health's drug hotline...which is posted

breaking overnight... police in union city are investigating an officer involved shooting. ( darya ) it happened during a traffic stop just before midnight. kron 4's will tran is live at the scene... will? on monday, june 18, 2018 at 11:35 pm, officers attempted to stop a car in the area of e street and railroad avenue in union city. while making the stop, there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of the vehicle and several officers. no officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. one suspect drove the car to the area of railroad avenue and whipple road and all three suspects ran into

the surrounding neighborhoods. all three have since been located and taken into custody. at least one suspect sustained a gunshot injury and was transported to a local hospital. his injury does not appear to be life-threatening. there is no on-going danger to the general public as a result of this incident. thanks will. we will with you through out the morning. ( darya ) it happened during a traffic stop just before midnight. kron 4's will tran is live at the scene... will? on monday, june 18, 2018 at 11:35 pm, officers attempted to stop a car in the area of e street and railroad avenue in union city. while making the stop, there was an exchange of

gunfire between the occupants of the vehicle and several officers. no officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. one suspect drove the car to the area of railroad avenue and whipple road and all three suspects ran into the surrounding neighborhoods. all three have since been located and taken into custody. at least one suspect sustained a gunshot injury and was transported to a local hospital. his injury does not appear to be life-threatening. there is no on-going danger to the general public as a result of this incident. of this incident.

store on june 12th shows at least one of the men carrying several large items as he leaves without paying. then on june 14th the video shows another man taking items out of the store. the theif put tools into a shopping cart and then leaves through the contractor exit. days after they began living on the streets in the r-v the ashes were stolen. the keepsake urn looks similar to this only teal in color according to those at the skyview cemetary in vallejo where the urn was purchased. most of marjorie's mother's ashes were buried but these were stolen.sot and i'm just begging pleading whoever did this i don't need to know your name or anything if you would just return my mother's urn please

( james ) breaking overnight... police in union city are investigating an officer involved shooting involving juveniles. ( darya ) it happened during a traffic stop just before midnight. kron 4's will tran is live at the scene... will? on monday, june 18, 2018 at 11:35 pm, officers attempted to stop a car in the area of e street and railroad avenue in union city. while making the stop, there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of the vehicle and several

officers. no officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. one suspect drove the car to the area of railroad avenue and whipple road and all three suspects ran into the surrounding neighborhoods. all three have since been located and taken into custody. at least one suspect sustained a gunshot injury and was transported to a local hospital. his injury does not appear to be life-threatening. there is no on-going danger to the general public as a result of this incident.

the latest incident happened near san francisco's tenderloin on may 24th on leavenworth street. a homeless man was lying down on the sidewalk when the a man approached him and without warning... started kicking his face. in the other attack... police say the same man approached another homeless man and kicked him, police arrested samuel youmtoub on suspicion of aggravated ( james ) in the east bay... police in hercules are looking for two men who robbed a home depot twice in one week. the thieves took power tools from the store and then returned two days later and stole more items. surveillance video from the store on june 12th shows at least one of the men carrying several large items as he leaves without paying. then on june 14th the video shows another man taking items out of the store. the theif put tools into a shopping cart and then leaves through the contractor exit. ( james ) in the south bay... police need help tracking down an armed robber.

san jose police say this man walked into a public storage business back on may first. he then demanded money from an employee. the man got away with cash. he was driving a 1990-s silver chevy blazer. ( james ) petaluma police have arrested a man who they say attacked another man with a golf club... and then stole his bike. it happened near the lynch creek trail at a park saturday night. police say lee bussell knocked the victim off his bike... and then started hitting him with his own golf club. bussell now faces robbery and assault with a deadly weapon charges. ( darya ) dublin police have arrested two robbery suspects in connection with three laptop thefts at various starbucks locations. police say adam uzelac (left) and khan roadwall (right) as responsible for the robberies. when uzelac and roadwall were arrested, police did a search of their homes and found at least one of the stolen laptops. both uzelac and roadwall have been charged with numerous counts of robbery and grand theft. bay... we now know the name of the man who died at the berkeley marina. christopher cheung died saturday night... after his canoe overturned. his body was spotted by a bystander... who called for help. police don't believe there was anyone else in the canoe with cheung when it overturned. ( james ) a san francisco store owner is facing charges... after customers say they got violently ill from prescribed pills. police launched an undercover investigation into the "hue an" company on jackson street in chinatown. customers say they suffered from allergic reactions to the drugs they bought. the store's owner -- bihn vi -- is accused of selling drugs without a license. the district attorney's office believes there may be ( james ) in san bruno... a mountain lion was spotted near parkside middle school. police got a call around noon... from someone who heard from someone else about the mountain lion. that created a buzz on the "next door" app and in the neighborhood where people were not surprised.

( james ) a blue whale carcass washes up in point reyes. the marine mammal center will head to the beach today... to figure out how the animal died. ship strikes and and getting caught up in fishing gear are the leading causes of whale deaths. blue whales are the largest animals on earth and are listed as an endangered species. about 28-hundred blue whales live off the california coast. ( darya ) a stunning site for beachgoers in santa cruz county. a dead, great white shark washed ashore on "beer can beach" in aptos. it measured about 9-feet long... and weighed about 500- pounds. a marine biologist who's been studying these sharks for about 4-years now... kayaking alongside them in the water... often sees about 25 of them a day.

( darya ) the shark had a number of cuts and scrapes on its body... likely from sea lions. but the marine biologist we talked to believes a bacterial infection killed the shark.
