in lake county. a fire that started last night near clear lake oaks.. off pawnee road.... has destroyed a dozen homes and burned at lease one thousand acres.this is cell phone video sent to us from a viewer. the fast moving fire doubled in size by ten-o'clock last night. evacuations have been ordered and a shelter is set up for evacuees at lower lake high school. over 3-thousand people are now left displaced. we'll continue to update this story throughout ( marty ) in the east bay... hot weather is partially to blame for multiple brush fires. this is cellphone video that a viewer sent us after a 2-alarm fire broke out in antioch. fire crews were able to contain the blaze before 9 o'clock last night. at least 6 structures were damaged... and 2 people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.-fire was under control 8:20pm-fire was contained around 8:40pm-at least 6 structures were damaged. -two civilians were taken to the smoke inhalation - condition is still under investigation

expected to particiapte in the parade this year... either riding on floats or walking. another 100 thousand people are expected to line up on the parade route - it all ends at the civic center where there is a large stage and many festivities planned there for the day. we spoke with organziers about the days events - and this year's theme. organizer. the number of opioid overdose deaths in alameda county decreased by nearly 50-percent last year. alameda county health officials say they are working with several agencies to reduce and prevent the misuse of opiods and associated deaths. and they have been successful with opioid prevention programs and the use of medication used to treat addiction. ( marty ) sugary drinks could be on the way out for students in california. a bill making its way through the state legislature is

calling for water or milk to be offered in student meals and lunches. the bill also cracks down on restaurants, preventing them from advertising sugary drinks with kids meals. only water, milk or a milk substitute would be allowed on the menu. those sugary drinks would still be offered... but would have to be requested. the plan is part of an effort to fight obesity and diabetes.. ( marty ) a big story we are following this morning...an oakland man is recovering after being brutally attacked in a possible hate crime. someone hit scott long in the head with a tire iron as he walked home in the laurel neighborhood of oakland. long's jaw was so badly broken that he had to have surgery and lost several teeth. long is a gay rights activist who has worked all around the world. he doesn't know why he was attacked.

she moved in. the most recent noise complaint coming in january of this year. the lawyer representing the owner sent us a list of complaints about serena. they include stomping on the floor in the middle of the night, yelling at construction workers while intoxicated, and her son throwing bottles out the window and into the street at night. she denies some of those allegations but does say her son threw bottles out of the window, something that autistic children have been known to do, he has since gotten treatment for it. serena is upset because she says she didn't ever hear of the complaints until she got an eviction notice.sotchietti believes the owner wants her and her son out so he can up the rent from 1,834 dollars a month to 32-hundred a month. something she would be unable to afford. sot

( marty ) in the north bay... a homeowner says an arsonist tried to burn down his house. the homeowner's property is the site of one of 13 suspicious fires in santa rosa. surveillance video shows kenneth barber in his backyard with a garden hose... after flames erupted behind a nearby fence. santa rosa police say evidence points to a bicyclist as the arsonist. no one was hurt. but barber says the nearby flames made him nervous. ( marty ) a big story we are following this morning.. housing for migrant children separated from their families are popping up in, chicago, virginia, and ... in the bay area. reporter steve large has the story. cbs13 has learned this fairfield building is home to a care facility housing migrant children detained and separated from their families at the border.the facility-- run a non-profit called bcfs has a website that touts 70 years of experience caring for at-risk populations, and with a number of government agencies including the u.s. department of the health and human services. no one at the fairfield facility would speak to me.a woman working on site

hermela aregawi has the story. softball for a cause..warriors player javale mcgee brought out his teammates and celebrity friends for his fourth annual juglife softball game.mcgee said.. he started his foundation after learning so many people don't have access to safe water. and his passion for the cause was made greater.. after he visited uganda.. where last year.. juglife built a water well. javale mcgee/warriors there literally the water was cloudy, it's like a little pond, people are washing their bikes in it, taking showers, and then kids are coming right after them then getting water to take to their village to drink and stuff. it's just sad. and i'm just trying to help thatsteph curry.. to no one's surprise nearly knocked the ball out of the park... raising tempers about whether it was a home run or not. the call was a no.. so he headed to first base.steph curry/warriors i missed it last year so i look forward to particpating and getting involved and obviously javale is doing a great job with his foundation. that's why we're out here to support our

... the brand new hello kitty mini cafe is open for business at santana row in san jose. fans may be familiar with the mobile cafe that shows up at events like... the cherry blossom festival. but this is the first brick and mortar location to open in the bay area. many people waited in line for the big event. the cafe has treats .... including cakes, cookies and pies. a wisconsin couple woke up in the middle of the night to cries coming from their basement. when they went to see what happened, they found a bear cuthat had fallen into the basement and couldn't get out. the couple's basement is under construction. after seeing the bear needed some help to get out they called police. when officers arrived... they lowered a ladder into the pit so the cub could climb out.

the number of opioid overdose deaths in alameda county decreased by nearly 50-percent last year. alameda county health officials say they are working with several agencies to reduce and prevent the misuse of opiods and associated deaths. and they have been successful with opioid prevention programs and the use of medication used to treat addiction. ( marty ) new evidence suggests a common virus may play a role in who develops alzheimer's. researchers say two strains of the herpes virus may contribute to the disease. the study looked at data on the brains of 620 people who have signs of the disease and

320 from people who did not seem to be affected by it. the brains with alzheimer's had levels of the herpes virus that were up to twice as high compared to those who did not have the disease. following this morning...an oakland man is recovering after being brutally attacked with a tire iron in a possible hate crime. someone hit scott long in the head with a tire iron as he walked home in the laurel neighborhood of oakland. long's jaw was so badly broken that he had to have surgery and lost several teeth. long is a gay rights activist who has worked all around the world. he doesn't know why he was attacked.

following this morning.. housing for migrant children separated from their families are popping up in, chicago, virginia, and ... in the bay area. reporter steve large has the story. cbs13 has learned this fairfield building is home to a care facility housing migrant children detained and separated from their families at the border.the facility-- run a non-profit called bcfs has a website that touts 70 years of experience caring for at-risk populations, and with a number of government agencies including the u.s. department of the health and human services. no one at the fairfield facility would speak to me.a woman working on site told me to leave the private property."the woman didn't identify herself, she escorted me to onto this public sidewalk, and handed me a business card, with the contact information for the department of health and human services."repeated calls to the agency were not returned. congressman john garamendi--speaking from his
