supreme court to uphold president trump's travel ban. these seven countries - most m of them are are majority muslim countries. good evening i'm catherine heenan in for grant lodes.(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. this comes as protests against president trump's immigration policies continue in the bay area and across the nation. tonight we've confirmed that at least two children separated from their parents at the border are being held in a facility in pleasant hill. let's get to reporter natasha chen live in washington for more on the supreme court ruling today. the supreme court has upheld the president trump's travel ban in a 5-4 ruling.this case was regarding the third version of the travel ban that has been in effect since december. today the supreme court ruled 5-4 that presiden't trump's travel restrictions on people from seven countries will stay

in effect. president donald trump: the ruling shows that all of the attacks from the media and the democrat politicians are wrong and they turned out to be very wrong and what we're looking for as republicans, i can tell you is strong borders, no crime. the policy restricts nationals from iran, north korea, syria, libya, yemen, somalia...and certain venezuelan government officials ...from entering the united states. but this travel ban is very different from the first issued in january of 2017.mass protests followed at various airports across the country, lawsuits were filed, and the ban was blocked.in march 2017 - a second travel ban was unveiled - and blocked again. the trump administrtation released the most recent version of the travel ban in september of last year.in december, the supreme court allowed this newest version to take effect pending appeal. the state of hawaii - as lead plaintiff - argued against the ban, saying one - that the president had overstepped his authority.and two - that the order violates the constitution's establishment clause- which bars the government from favoring one religion over another.at issue are some of the comments then candidate- trump made during his campaign - "donald j. trump is calling for a complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states"but today - chief justice john roberts said the travel ban fit quote "squarely within the scope of presidential authority." in

decision does not mean the majority of united states stands with you the speakers call the the president's policy a muslim ban since five of the seven counties on the list have overwhelmingly muslim populations.we understand that as racism we understand this as white supremacy we understand this as targeted hate at the arab and muslim communities this decision today is a travesty of justice a grimm stain on the supreme court's legacy this is how dictators get started when there is no check and balance civil rights attorney donald tamaki says just because this decision comes from the highest court in the land....doesn't mean the fight is over. public the public does not agree with the decision that came down the answer is also is legend is also in legislation and in organizing to change this many setbacks in for example the civil rights movement in the rights of women to be equal and get equal pay, the rights of be discriminated against in hiring and public accommodations all of those things at one time we are lawful and courts and ultimately they were changed so it's not the end of the fight by any meansthose rallying today say they to mobilize and advocate for an end to the travel ban.maureen kelly kron4 news. out the fire but it helps. "fire retardant slows the progress of fires and allows firefighters to get up next to it and actually extinguish it." so for crews in the sky and on the ground communication is key. its up to both the eyes in the sky and boots on the ground to figure out the best way to use the retardant. "communication is paramount over our fires. together the boots on the ground working with the air attack above is an orchestra making it so we can put out a fire quickly and safely."bennett said conditions in the sky are rough for pilots. each plane can make up to ten trips a days--and flying over wildfire isnút like flying out of sacramento international. "these air currents are tremendous in the mountainous valleys as well as the temperatures because the fire is heating the air. it makes for quite the bumpy ride for pilots."
