this beautiful slice of california coast is known as tunitas creek beach...and in the near futurue it will become a county park. up until recently it was surrounded by private property and was very difficult to access. i think there's a rope ladder apparently people driving atvs down the creek, none of it safe none of us legal it's all bad for the environment and it's dangerous but people did it....and sometimes trashed it with impunity since it wasn't being patrolled by rangers. they leave everything, tents coolers, barbecues we've had camp outs of over four and 500 people. and of course i'll remind you there's no restroom facilities out here so there's that . so that environmentally is a catastrophe into in addition to everyone scrambling up and down what are pretty permeable clips and through the creek corredor it was just getting to a point where the locals felt like this is a crisis and you know what happens the tide comes in and takes all that trash right out to the ocean oceanthe peninsula open space trust purchased the 58 acres around

the beach for 5 million dollars . and this week the governor set aside another 5 million in the state budget to help make it so the public can come down safely and enjoy it. an emergency access road has been already been created so rangers can patrol the beach. but it will be some time before it will ready as a destination.. we said at least three years and that would be to get some basic parking, facilities in a path to the beachabout a mile and a half to the north is martin's beach. tech billionaire vinod khosla bought the surrounding land and closed off the road that the public has used for generations. the surfrider foundation sued him and won. khosla wants to take it to the supreme court. but now state senator jerry hill has authored a budget rider which includes a million dollars to go into a fund and gives the state land commission the right to use that money, plus an another million being kicked in by san mateo county, to buy the road....or use eminent domain to take it. you can have a private beach you can't buy a beach close it off and keep the public from enjoying it. if that were the case we'd have no access since last year khosla has re-opened the gate....but regulars here say it's closed more often
