at around 8:45 last night on the 2000 block of mission street.when s-f-p-d arrived they found three ( marty )police are learning more about the suspect in a cold case investigation that came to an end.... after the suspect killed himself. it happened as sheriff's deputies were closing in on him at a san jose motel. kron 4's gabe slate breaks

down the case that took 44 years to close. in 1974 arlis perry was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered in the back of the stanford memorial church. no one was ever convicted of the crime. at the time the main suspect was a security guard who was on site steven blake crawford.. there was never enough evidence to arrest him but he was never officially cleared.all these years later steven blake crawford was still a suspect and living in santa clara. investigators were closing in on him with new dna evidence. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffthere was new evidence we linked to him santa clara county sheriff lauri smith says thursday morning a few of her deputies were serving a warrant at the residence of steven blake crawford in the 5200 block of camden ave in the city of san jose. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffwhen we knocked on the door crawford killed himself. we are still on the scene investigating this murder and any other murders he may have been involved in. sheriff laurie smith said investigaters kept a picture of perry on their wall for 44 years waiting for closure. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffit is

( marty ) san francisco tourists are often unaware of two issues. first, how cold it can be, especially along the waterfront. and second, the car break- in problem around the city. but someone has put out new signs alerting tourists... and they aren't from city officials. in this edition of people behaving badly, kron four's stanley roberts says someone has put out warning signs alerting tourists and they arent from city officials. the golden gate bridge, people

come from all around the world to see it, take photos of but many people leave with bitter memories so what did they get (ahh some cash, some cards and some clothes in the package) how much cash did they get (two thousand dollars) so what did you lose? (ah we just lost the backpack) and what was in it (credits cards two two seperate tourist one common problem they were both victims of auto burglaries around the golden gate bridge amy's from virginia and the other group is visiting from china. when did you first leave your car and when did you come back the california highway patrol has been trying to put a stop to this problem a lot of cars get broken into and it's just easy when there are bags in the back it takes three seconds for them smash a window and grab everything and runby education and enforcement now, if you have been following along a few months back i noticed at vista point there was something missing signs alerting tourists that there is a problem.. so at least most

visitors could be alerted and act accordingly so i circled back to see if any changes has been made and i noticed about 5 different signs this one and 4 other that looked like this and before you laugh out loud the signs were created by the marin office of the california highway patrol and are prototypes of temporary signs... until caltrans can install something more official but what are visitors saying people are always going to steal from you if there are a lot of tourist around and when i asked about the signs maybe somebody is just trying to alert people, because people are looking at the golden gate bridge, they're looking at alcatraz they are looking at a lot of different stuff and they are not watching their valuables i think the real problem is prop 47, that's the real problem here it's a slap on the wrist if you get caught breaking into a car now i know signs won't fix the problem because on the san francisco side there are signs yet two cars were hit in just seconds but i applaud the california highway patrol for making an

people are recovering here at sf general.the hospital's spokesperson just told me both gunshot victims are in serious condition.however - he could not say if the victims are men or women.the shooting happened at around 8:45 last night on the 2000 block of mission street.when s-f-p-d arrived they found three people with bullet wounds.depite life saving efforts - one person died at the scene.while the other two were transported here to sf general.we spoke to one man who was there at the time of the shooting - he says sadly this has become a common occurance in the mission. it seems there has been an increase in shootings in this area as i've personally covered at least three shootings in the mission within the last month.i've reached out to police this morning to see if they have a better idea as to how many suspects there are and what the circumstances are of this shooting.stay tuned this morning as we learn more.live in san francisco, sara stinson, kron 4 news.

down the case that took 44 years to close. in 1974 arlis perry was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered in the back of the stanford memorial church. no one was ever convicted of the crime. at the time the main suspect was a security guard who was on site steven blake crawford.. there was never enough evidence to arrest him but he was never officially cleared.all these years later steven blake crawford was still a suspect and living in santa clara. investigators were closing in on him with new dna evidence. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffthere was new evidence we linked to him santa clara county sheriff lauri smith says thursday morning a few of her deputies were serving a warrant at the residence of steven blake crawford in the 5200 block of camden ave in the city of san jose. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffwhen we knocked on the door crawford killed himself. we are still on the scene investigating this murder and any other murders he may have been involved in. sheriff laurie smith said investigaters kept a picture of perry on their wall for 44 years waiting for closure. sound from laurie smith, santa clara county sheriffit is great to have closure it has been very difficult for the investigators and her family. in sj gabe slate kron 4 news

( marty ) on the pennisula.. the coast guard rescued 4 people after their fishing boat started to sink near pacifica. here they are, smiling, after the helicopter rescue. the boaters called 9-1-1, saturday afternoon after their 21-foot sport fishing vessel began taking on water. it happened near the pacifica municipal pier. the coast guard sent out a lifeboat and helicopter crews to help. none of the boaters were injured. ( marty )starting today... san francisco's minimum wage will go up to 15-dollars an hour. city officials say it is the first major u.s. city to offer that wage. but restaurant owners aren't happy about it. the idea was to raise wages a step at a time so that employers have time to prepare for the increase. restaurant owner deanna sison says it's nearly impossible to deal with a new expense since san francisco is already a very expensive city. they say.. it's not just the minimum wage, but

( marty ) much like san francisco, sydney, australia is known around the world for its iconic landmarks and the famous views that come with them. and if you like spending time outside, it's a vacation that should be on your wish list. travel enthusiast dana rebmann joins us now. there are so many things to love about sydney. it's the type of place you can go back to again and again and find something new every time. but for the first-time visitor, there are some must- dos that stand out and keep you moving. i'm a big fan of bike tours when you touch down in new places. they help give you the lay of the land so to speak, and if you're coming off a long flight, they can help get through that first day jetlag. runs two fun city introduction style tours. one is a bit

harbor. the ferry system is elaborate, so you've got plenty of options when it comes to choosing a destination, but one of the most scenic rides takes you to with a bay beach on one side, a shop and restaurant lined main drag leads you to the main ocean beach. this is what you can expect on a fall sunday. quieter, on a weekday, when all those folks not on vacation have to go back to work. sydney has another sydney has another famous beach you may have heard of.. bondi (bond- eye) beach is a huge attraction for visitors. if you're the beach bum type, you could easily spend the day here, but an even better idea is to start at bondi and beach

hop along using the if you don't stop the walk is about two hours along the coast. but you will stop. over, and over, and over again. have your swim suit on underneath your shorts. there will be surf-fed pools, quiet coves, surfers to watch, and stretches of sand to hunt for beach treasure. have your camera fully charged. it is one of the most beautiful walks i've done anywhere in the world. the stretch from bondi to coogee is a bit under four miles long, but you can leave the trail at any point if you get tired or have had enough. there will be stairs from time to time, but you're not in any rush, and the views give you plenty of excuses to stop and catch your breath. there are also seaside cafes and restaurants along the way, so

it's really hard to go wrong with this one. this isn't a tourist attraction. it's a well-used and loved by locals, and visitors in the know. let's check out the sydney opera house.. and get a few more steps in.. 1,332 stairs to be exact.. by climbing the sydney harbour bridge. yes, climbing the bridge. i know. first reaction might be that i am crazy. that's fair, but hear me out. it's an amazingly gentle, and entertaining climb, as opposed to the scary experience many people might automatically fear. all climbers wear a special jumpsuit so they blend in with the bridge, and a harness with cable that essentially clips you onto the bridge from the moment you

step out on the span, to the moment you're back on solid ground. the views are what make most folks gather up the courage to make the but you also wear headsets, you can hear your guide loud and clear along the way sharing stories about how the bridge was built. if climbing the bridge is a bit more of an adrenaline rush than you're looking for on vacation, you can climb the 200 stairs

( marty ) oh baby! that's what a texas hospital is saying after busy couple of days in the maternity ward. officials at the baylor medical center may need to add more cribs to accommodate their baby boom. since tuesday, 48 babies have been born in less than two days. that's an average of more than one baby an hour. that beats a record set just a few days ago at a hospital in dallas where 42 babies were born in 48 hours. there's

even a lively discussion about the recent baby boom. ( marty ) state records show most babies are born during july, august and september. the hospital says they were well prepared...even bringing in pizza for their staff. ( marty ) check out this new observation deck that has people excited or freightened. the glass deck and its connecting bridge opened thursday in southern china. the views are stunning, but some people are having a hard time handling the height. the deck is six hundred and sixty-two feet high and suspended over a valley and a massive water fall. the skywalk is considered to be the world's biggest and highest glass construction. ( marty ) one man may have broken the world record for holding a plank yoga position. george hood planked for ten hours and ten minutes friday in chicago.
