good evening i'm vicki liviakis. (catherine) and i'm catherine heenan in for grant lodes. the fire broke out just after 1:30 this afternoon. so far it's burned about 33 acres in the area of moraga road and buckingham drive. fire officials say it started in an open space behind homes. and right now it is 50-percent contained. we will continue to track the progress of the fire and bring you updates as it becomes available. (catherine) also tonight... the wildfire in yolo county continues to burn out of control. it's now said to be burning one-point-five square miles an hour. thre's some good news - since winds are dying down and the temperatures are cooling off. (vicki) the fire is also causing poor air quality in the bay area... as smoke is filling the skies and ash is falling through the air. here's a look at where the fire is burning right now... it has reached napa county... near lake berryessa... but is mostly in yolo county. helicopters and aircraft to put the fire out enough to allow bulldozers and handcrews and fire engines to safely get in and face the fire from the groundsot one of the things we are seeing with this particular fire is a number of spot fires over the main line of the fire which makes control more challenging for firefighters.one thing going for firefighters is that this area is relative rural... no massive subdivision of homes,, in fact with just over 100 structures threatened.sotit certainly helps when donnt have as many structures in the way so we can focus our resources on permiter control around the fire.
