story we are following this morning... a group of 12 boys and their soccer coach will have to stay trapped in a cave. international rescuers in thailand are still considering their options after the team was found alive after missing for nine days. andrew spencer has more on the rescue attempt. the most immediate challenge, according to e-m-t instructor and cave rescue expert anmar mirza, is that these boys went without food for nine days. anmar mirza, cave rescue expert: "we can't just give them food. they have to be reintroduced to food very carefully, because just providing them with food unto itself could kill them through something we call the re- feeding syndrome for people who have been without food for an extended period of time."

their physical condition -- as a result of that lack of food -- makes an immediate rescue less likely.the boys and their coach are about one- and-a-quarter miles deep inside the cave, about half-a- mile below the surface. the way to the exit is through tight, flooded channels through water that is -- in some areas -- muddy and fast-moving.anmar mirza, cave rescue expert: "cave diving is an incredibly dangerous activity for people who are very experienced doing it, and now you're looking at taking people who have no experience -- or very little experience -- with diving and putting them into a complete blackout situation, where they have to rely on the regulator and the tanks with them to breathe, and losing that regulator even for a minute or two could be fatal."
