fladeboe kron 4 news (catherine) they're not just noisy and annoying... there's new proof of how dangerous fireworks can be... an antioch auto shop worker blew up both his hands this morning....afte r finding a firework in a dumpster... it happened outside 'gumaro's auto repair and mufflers'on auto center drive.. the 33-year-old man found the firework....thendecided to light it. his brother--in-law and co-worker says he tried to warnhim not to do it... é the victim was rushed to a local hospital... fire officials say his hands are so badly injured - they may needto be amputated. (catherinei) we're beginning to get some of the arrest numbers for illegal fireworks.. the alameda county sheriff's office says it took seven people into custody and confiscated 325 pounds of fireworks. the san bruno police department arrested six people and confiscated 300 pounds of fireworks. (vicki) tonight investigators are trying to determine how a woman ended dead in an east bay park. a woman's body was in a neighborhood park in oakland on krause avenue... that's near bancroft and 73rd avenue.. as kron4's haaziq madyun reports - it's not the first time a body has been found there. it was one of the first stops of the morning for a public works crew when they came across a disturbing sight sot it happened around 9:30am here at arroyo viejo creek in east oakland. police secured the area with yellow crime scene

tape, while investigators collected multiple pieces of evidence at the scene. opd spokesperson felicia aisthorpe describes the area where the woman's body was foundsot the creek runs through a popular neighborhood park. there is also an elementary schoolear by. several years ago a female homicide victim was found in this same creek. a suspect was arrested and charged in that case. police say there appears to be no connection to this case. although it is early in the investigation police are not ready to rule out foul play sotthere are no surveillance cameras in the area near the creek where the body was found or in arroyo park park. anyone who has information about what happened oakland police would like to hear from you...in oakland haaziq madyun kron4news

(vicki) tonight - immigrant rights groups are claiming victory in a lawsuit by the trump adminstration over california sanctuary laws. (catherine) a judge upheld senate bill 54 and assembly bill 103. the first - limits the ability of state and local law enforcement to help federal agents enforce immigration law. the second - allows the california attorney general to inspect detention facilities in the state. the judge did temporarily suspend another law though... assembly bill 450 - which requires private employers to deny immigration officials access without a warrant.(vicki) joining us now - oakland mayor libby schaaf - who's been involved in a recent high profile battle with the trump adminstration. over immigration raids... welcome mayor schaaf. what do these rulings mean? are you vindicated? how does it feel to be the target of

on delta fair blvd. they had an active scene for several hours. we now know two women were shot and one died on scene take a look at your screen to see a map of where this fatal double shooting happened on delta fair blvd.investigators searched bushes, trash cans and collected evidence from the home at 44-hundred delta fair blvd. police responded to shots fid at the home around 4:30 in the morning. when they arrived they found two gunshot victims- both women ages 55 and 28 years oldpolice called paramedics - one woman was rushed to the hospital and the other died on scene. investigators have not released any information about the suspect or suspects involved in this homicide. over a dozen investigators and child protective services spent hours on scene. we are still looking to learn more about this homicide investigation, head to kron 4 dot com for the very latest. in antioch, sara stinson, kron 4 news.### news.### (anchor) taking a live look outside-- overlooking downtown san francisco.

taking in lots of runaways - spooked by the fireworks. (philippe) since monday, when people started shooting fireworks into the air leading up to independence day... contra costa county animal services says 70 pets have been brought into the shelter reported lost. 39 of them dogs. 21 cats, and 10 other animals. steve burdo with animal services says, on the actual holiday itself, he says fewer lost pets were reported then expected.steve burdo/animal services- "we've actually had our best fourth of july since i've been here, which is three years, um, we only brought in 12 animals, uh, eight dogs, four cats. so, we're expecting that to rise over the next few days." animal services says typically the three days prior to the fourth of july... and, the three days immiediately after, mark the busiest time of the year for the shelter.steve burdo/animal services- "certainly, one of the best ways to reunite with your lost pet if they become lost is to have them licensed and micro-chipped. that is the most traditional tride and true way to increase your chances of being reunited with your pet if they become lost." throughout the day, volunteers waited outside the shelter, giving people the tools they need to help find a lost pet or notify the public that a pet has been found. pet owners can also download

near highway 99. a witness says the suspect had been behaving strangely and had been warned by the bus driver.. he says she'd been sitting next to him and then headed to the middle of the bus and stabbed another woman. the victim's child was also injured - with cuts and bruises. the man who saw it happening said the mother was stabbed in the side - and he tried to help. (catherine) police are still looking for two robbery suspects in berkeley. they say two people grabbed a woman's purse sunday morningat piedmont and durant, just blocks from california memorial stadium. the victim had been walking with a friend on piedmont.... she and her friend were shaken - but not injured. (vicki) in the north bay. a man is dead tonight...after being struck by two vehicles while riding his bike. it happened on stony point road in unincorporated sonoma county. there authorities found the bicyclist dead. his name has not yet been released. the vehicles fled...but evidence at the scene indicated a jeep libery was one of the vehicles. officers eventually caught up to the jeep's driver...22-year- old gyvaughn smith. officers are currently searching the area for the second driver...beleived to be the owner of a dark colored sedan. (catherine) caltran has announced that highway one along the big sur coast is set to reopen later this month.

a huge landslide closed the scenic road in may of last year. 50 acres of land covering a quarter a mile of road were affected... businesses in the area are thrilled that tourist access is back.. there will be a ribbon cutting at ragged point inn july 20th - to mark the offical reopening. the whole project cost fifty four million dollars to complete. (catherine) every year on the fourth of july....there are accidentsand injuries involving fireworks. this was the scene in kentucky yesterday.. this might look like a show....but it's actuallyan explosion that was somehow set off near a fireworks stand and nearby house.. investigators are suspicious since this was one of just three early morning fires in the town of madisonville, kentucky. all three are being investigated as arson. in dayton ohio...a person was critically injuredwhen fireworks went off in a car last night... the victim was inside the car when it happened.. another person standing nearby was also injured. the bomb squad was called in... they say the explosion was so intense, it set off airbags in a car across the street. in florida - a man is recovering after his fingers were blown off by

fireworks. neighbors say say he and some friends had been playingwith fireworks on the balcony of an apartment building.. at one point - one blew up just as the man had been trying tothrow it... firefighters say the fireworks had been modified with a shorter fuse....making them even more dangerous. but one of the worst incidents happened in mexico today..where at least 19 people have been killed after two explosions at what's described as a pyro-technics workshop. another 40 people were injured. it happened in tulte-pec - in the outskirts of mexico city. some of the victims were first responders who .were hurt or killed after arriving...when a 'second' explosion went off. among those killed - firefighters, police, and civilians. fireworks .... it was a wild fourth of july night in the south bay. one man was lighting off illegal fireworks in the middle of 1st street, near an interstate- 280 onramp in san jose. the intersection of bonita avenue and east san antonio street ... seemed to be the main launching pad for quite a display .... judging from the spent illegal fireworks littering the street there. authorities say, they spotted dozens of fizzled out rockets... firecracker debris and old sparklers. one resident we talked to says, he spotted some of his neighbors lighting illegal fireworks... but felt bad calling the police.(sot) san jose police were no san jose san jose police were no

doubt busy... but said, statistics about arrests and citations issued for illegal fireworks were not immediately available. they also say, the number of complaints and citations issued by way of the city's on-line reporting tool .. wont be available for two weeks. (ken) the fourth july weekend is often the busiest time of the year for animal shelters... kron four's philippe djegal reports from contra costa county. where animal services took in runaway pets who were spooked by fireworks. (philippe) last year... during the week of july 4th... contra costa county animal services brought in 150 stray animals frightened by fireworks. this year, so far, that number is down to 70. with the amount of dogs doubling the number of cats taken in. but steve burdo with animal services says that's a relatively low number... considering, on average, the shelter typically takes in 175-pets per week. steve burdo/animal services- "and on the fourth of july, uh we've actually had our best fourth of july since i've been here, which is three years, um, we only brought in 12 animals, uh, eight dogs, four
