good evening - thanks for joining us -- i'm vicki liviakis.(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan. the intruder was shot and is hospitalized tonight... it happened in richmond just after midnight.. not far from the hilltop mall... on alta mira drive. kron4's dan kerman joins us live from richmond police headquarters. in the front window of this richmond home a bullet hole... another one in the door of the car parked out front. it's an indication of what went on here shortly after midnightsot sgt. lynette parker/richmond police 10-17a 47 year old man attempted to break into two homes, before successfully entering a home on alta mira by breaking a window.but once inside the home the suspect was confronted by one of the residents, who was armed. police say when the suspect refused to retreat, the

ground on the wildfire burning in napa and yolo counties. but - the weather is heating up this weekend - and that is raising concerns. since the fire sparked nearly one week ago it has burned nearly 140 square miles.(catherine) at least nine buildings have been destoryed - and more than 100 others are threatened. kron4's will tran has the latest on the firefight.

(vicki) this is video from the klamathon wildfire sweeping through siskiyou county . we know one person is dead - but further details have not been released. the fire has burned 8- thousand acres.... and it's spreading.(vicki) klamathon fire has the entire city of hornbrook evacuated. multiple homes have been swept away by flames... it's just five- percent contained. (catherine) new at five: sonoma county is considering "wildfire surveillance cameras".. they'd be installed in rural areas - in the hopes ofdetecting the beginning of any new fires.. kron4's terisa estacio says a similar system in the north bay has played a key role in firefighting... this fire in san rafael last month was picked up by one of marin county's fire cameras... and alerted the

crews quickly so they could zero in where to go first to battle the blaze. battlion chief graham groneman, marin co. fire. it gives us great intel, so we can assess and attack. here is a closer look at the network, in the dispatch center... there are six cameras in total, all perched in strategic locations around the county.... graham. it is a really good, helpful system. and take a look at this.... this is a map obtained by kron four news... of a proposed new network of 8 fire cameras...for sonoma county. officials will be voting on the proposed system in august. the cost is close to half a million dollars. if passed it could be in place in the fall... close to the one year anniverasry of the deadly wine county fires. in addition to working as an extra eye in the county... marin battlion chief says the network also helps other agencies... that have access to the cameras, and can help send back up crews accordingly. in marin county te

it may be best to keep pets, espcially cats, indoors at night. askron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the cats are thought to havefallen prey to coyotes. missing cat flyers like this one can be seen in and around mountain view's cooper park. at least four cats have gone missing in recent weeks, including this one. 14-year- old mario was attacked by a coyote here on fairbrook drive. wesley brandemuehl is mario's owner.wesley brandemuehl/cat killed by coyote "....it was about three in the morning and our next door neighbor came outside to find a coyote eating mario, they scared off the coyote but it was too late for poor mario..."it's not unusal for coyotes, like this one i encountered recently in san jose's east foothills, to venture into urban areas in search of food and prey. vector control confirms there has been a cluster of coyote sightings on and around fairbrook drive. small dogs may also be at risk. mario's neighborhood is now trying to keep their pets indoors at

police about the puzzling case. (philippe) a stash of guns and ammunition capable of inflicting a lot of damage if placed in the wrong hands... found in a home on san marco avenue in san bruno.ryan johansen/lieutenant- "there were three pistols or handguns located within the duffle bag, uh, and then a rifle as well, a .22-caliber rifle, uh, in addition to six boxes of ammunition." neighbors say the duffle bag was found on this property. police say the man who reported the guns and ammo just before five-30 thursday evening lives here. he claims the bag and its contents don't belong to him and doesn't know how or when they got here.ryan johansen/lieutenant- "at this point in time, the guns are not, by our best estimation, are not inheritantly illegal, meaning the way they're designed or built, or just the type of guns they are. whether or not they're properly registered, whether or not they've been used in a crime -- all of these are things we'll be looking into as part of the ongoing investigation." lieutenant ryan johansen (joe-hansen) says the man who reported the bag did the right thing by leaving it in the

(vicki) an oakland teen has now been laid to rest. a funeral held at eleven this morning for jahi mcmath -- the oakland teen at the center of a medical debate over brain death. mcmath's mother says her daughter died from excessive bleeding and liver failure last week in new jersey. mcmath had been in an unresponsive state since december 2013... when she was declared brain dead following complications when her tonsils were taken out. she was 13 at the time. her family refused to accept the idea she was dead... and moved her to a care facility out of state. (catherine) the boy was discovered at union station.. as lisa sigell reports - when the mother finally showed up hours later -- she was hauled away in handcuffs.. police say the mother of a young boy abandoned at union station in downtown los angeles wednesday has been taken into custody.dava denise webster, 31, was booked on a charge of felony child endangerment thursday.the lapd announced that investigators had located family members of the seven-year-old boy found wandering union station on wednesday night, and that an arrest has been made in the case.the webster was at the los angeles police department's central station being questioned by detectives. investigators say the boy was initially believed to be deaf and possibly autistic, and his inability to communicate hampered the investigation into how he ended up attended and who had left him at the station.an american sign language interpreter was summoned to try to communicate with the boy, but was unsuccessful, said lapd sgt. hector guzman.metro officials released a surveillance photo of webster walking with the boy at union station.metro2 e1530830541555 lapd finds family of boy abandoned at union station; mom arresteda young boy found apparently abandoned at union station is seen in this photo walking with a woman believed to be his mother.the boy was discovered in front of cafe crepe around 7 p.m. wednesday.

an lapd officer says that when he confronted webster who apparently left him there, she refused to talk to him and left.a cafe worker told police webster and her son sat at a table for about 30 minutes before she left.witness adrienne garrett told cbs2 news the woman tried to talk to webster to no avail before calling police."it's really upsetting that someone would just leave a cute little boy just by himself," garrett said. "i just couldn't imagine just walking out without coming back for someone so special."garrett said the boy didn't panic when webster left him alone."he was still smiling, still playing around, didn't necessarily seem afraid, at all, or abandoned," said garrett.the boy is now under a relative's care. care.under a relative's care. look at what's going on in your neighborhood right now. (catherine) a health advisory has been lifted after an incident at the shell refinery in martinez early this morning. kron 4's sara stinson has details on what happened.. a health advisory went into effect after a malfunction happened here at the shell refinery in martinez. in a processing unit and released a potentially hazardous odor.out of precaution shell put out a level two community warning saying people in the martinez and pacheco area could experience eye, skin, nose and throat irritation especially if you have respiratory issues. contra costa county lists a level two warning as caused by a fire, explosion, fire or plume that could cause a health risk.but all shell officials could say is that there was a malfunction. crews at the refinery spent the entire morning working to stabalize the unit, the advisory was finally lifted at around ten in the morning.no flare ups or injuries were reported during the malfunction. in martinez, sara stinson, kron 4 news

(catherine) a pedestrian was hit by a car last night in antioch.. it happened around 10-pm on lone tree way near putnam street. the victim was badly injured... police say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. they don't think drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. (catherine) charges will not be filed after an east bay high school student drownedin a campus pool. benjamin curry was a freshman at san ramon valley high.. he was found in the deep end of the pool may 8th. originally it was believed the teenagers death might have been a suicide. but danville police say curry's death was accidental and they foundno signs of foul play or negligence. investigators reviewed video footage from the pool area... and interviewed staff, classmates and curry's family. (vicki) in the south bay... mountian view police are investigating an overnight fire at a supermarket. it happened at "sprouts market" on san antonio road near el

camino real around four in the morning. a 9-1-1 call reported smoke coming out of the building. firefighters arrived and found the fire localized to a refrigerator. the fire was contained by the store's fire sprinkler system. no injuries were reported. the store will remain closed while the cause of the fire is being investigated. (catherine) in the north bay.. vallejo police are investigating a fatal crash on maple avenue. a motorcycle collided with several cars... injuring the motorcycle rider ..who later died the crash happened last month...but that victim is being identified now as 27-year-old nathan vinson. officers are working to determine if alcohol and or drugs are factors in the collision. the person who died did not have a valid drivers license. (catherine) in petaluma... a teenager is accused of robbing a bank this morning. police released this photo of the suspect. they say he walked into the umpqua bank on western ave with a note demading cash. the teller gave him an unknown amount of cash and he got away.

government will no longer encourage schools to use race as a factor in the admissions process. (catherine) opponents say the decision is a setback while supporters say colleges and universities should focus on race-neutral standards. our washington d.c. correspondent brie jackson has the story... supporters say it's time for the college admission process to be race-blind.it's the 21st century i am thrilled to see that schools are not being told that they should rely on the race of application to determine who gets into schools or not.african american leadership activist horace cooper says the trump administration rightly rescinded what he calls outdated obama-era affirmative action guidelines...but kristen clarke of the lawyer's committee for civil rights says it's a major setback. rolling back this guidance now sends a dangerous message to schools that this administration doesn't value diversity and they shouldn't either brie jackson: the justice department's decision does not change current laws on racial discrimination. but it does shift the focus away from affirmative action to race-neutral standards.cooper

(vicki) insurance companies are slowly getting back on board with obamacare. according to the kaiser family foundation, more than a dozen insurers who tried to flee the affordable care act exchanges, are coming back for 2019. experts say insurers made enough money in the private sector last year to come back to the public marketplace. and with congress unable to repeal obamacare, the future seems a little more stable.

(catherine) shoppers at an alabama walmart watched in horror as a dog locked in a hot car - slowly died. police were called... but many people say the officers didn't do enough to help save the animal. cynthia gould reports. stacy guthrie recorded these live images, in the trussville walmart parking lot around noon.as by-standers tried to open the car, temperatures outside topped 90 degrees. the adult dog inside, barely breathing.the owner nowhere in sight.officers nats: "stop what you're doing and go about your business. we'll handle it."many critical police did not immediately rescue the dog, when they arrived.lt. phil dillon says their policy is to try and locate the owner first.several announcements were made inside the walmart. after no response--ánats of window breakingáthe window was broken.water and ice not enough to save this dog.lt. dillon says surveillance video shows the vehicle owner, a woman in her thirties, went in the store at four this morning. it was seven hours later, before the dog was discovered and police called.

(vicki) we have a scam alert for you this evening. disneyland wants you to know they are not giving away free tickets despite an advertisement circulating on social media. the false offer looks like a coupon and says disneyland is giving away five thousand tickets celebrating 110 years of service... it will ask you to fill out a short survey and at the end a short survey and at the end say congratulations you have won two free tickets.

a disneyland resort spokeswoman said the offer is false and disneyland opened in 1955, which was 62 years ago, not 110. (catherine) los angeles police have released surveillance video - of a man accused ofburglarizing offices and studios in hollywood.. they're hoping the video will help in tracking him down.. (vicki) rick chamber reports on how he was able to get in. dressed in what police describe as business attire, with blue slacks and brown dress shoes, the man has committed multiple burglaries in the hollywood area by blending in with the office spaces he is targeting, according to lapd. he gets into each business through an open parking garage."once inside, the suspect blends in by displaying possible fake identification badges and searches for unlocked office doors," police said of his tactics upon entering. according to police, he has been trying to steal laptops and electronics by finding a laptop bag to place the items inside before leaving. he is thought by police to be

(philippe) a neighbor says he saw investigators at this house thursday evening... searching the property on san marco avenue. san bruno police say were called by a man who lives here, reporting he found a duffle bag on the property that contained three hanguns, a rifle and six boxes of ammunition.... and, that he has no idea how the bag got here.ryan johansen/lieutenant- "it's out of the ordinary, especially to have a bag that contains multiple firearms and ammunition in this case and to have really no idea where it came from or who it belongs to." it's also unclear if the guns are illegal. lieutenant ryan johansen says they don't appear to have been modified.ryan johansen/lieute nant- "having these guns accessible where someone could have gotten ahold of them and maybe done damage with them would be bad or a child getting ahold of them would obviously be very bad. but in addition to that, its possible they've already been used in

putting in place a few years ago in the county... here is a closer look at the network, in the dispatch center... there are six cameras in total, all perched in strategic locations.... graham. it is a really good, helpful system. currently, sonoma officials are considering a similar network... to help with early detection and response. this is a map obtained by kron four news... of a proposed new network of 8 fire cameras...for sonoma county. officials will be voting on the proposed system in august. the cost is close to half a million dollars. if passed it could be in place in the fall... close to the one year anniverasry of the deadly wine county fires. in addition to working as an extra eye in the county... marin battlion chief says the network also helps other agencies... that have access to the cameras, and can help send back up crews accordingly. graham. i can access them and put resources accordingly. other counties in the state have networks, including san diedo, and in and around the lake tahoe basin. in marin county te

destroyed at least one building... it is just 5-percent contained. in san bernadino county... a truck on the freeway sparked a 100 -acre blaze in the cajon pass. the spark started as a brush fire... and extended into the vegetation. that fire has threatened a number of buildings, but no evacuations were immediately in place. and a brush fire in san diego county has destroyed several structures ... and prompted the evacuation of the town of alpine. that fire has burned at least 350- acres. on a double shooting that occured yesterday in antioch. we now know .. the second victim in that shooting... has died. police responded to shots fired on delta fair boulevard.. near highway 4..... at about 4-30 thursday morning. when officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims- both women. 28 year old milan rose ardoin was pronounced dead at the scene. 55-year old valinda rose scott was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. we do not yet have any information on the shooter. antioch police are investigating. (ken) in the east bay... a health advisory was lifted this morning after a potentially hazardous emission from the shell refinery. officials say a malfunction happened in a processing unit. out of precaution, shell put out a level two community warning saying people in the martinez and pacheco area

announcing potential changes to how water is distributed in the bay - delta. it would mean more water for dying fish populations.... and less for general consumers... and farmers. the state water resources control board annouced its proposals today -- an update nearly a decade in the making.. the proposal deals with the san joaquin river system and the sacramento river. it would allow for more water to reach the delta -- which regulators believe will help reverse a decade of decreasing fish populations.... and help improve water quality but it will also mean less water for people who rely on the san joaquin river... chairwoman felicia marcus says, the change is needed to address "an ecological crisis in the delta." felicia marcus, chairwoman, state water resources control board "californians actually want a healthy ecosystem, healthy agriculture and healthy urban communities and that only happens when we act. right now, we've let down the ecological side of the house."
