there were some casualties. four horses perished, trapped in their barn, which was destroyed, along with several other outbuildings. it's not clear how, but this horse, managed to escape the flames and was later corralled without injury. it happened on polk near vallejo street in san francisco. police say three cars were involved in the crash that left two people hospitalized with non life- threatening injuries. officials say one of the cars involved may have been stolen. police are investigating the cause of the crash. (grant) this morning... federal agents served search and arrest warrants at multiple locations in the city of san mateo. the reason for the raids - is unclear. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with a target of the investigation... and neighbors who saw crackdown. (philippe) busted doors, a handful of apartments left in disarray. and, several people taken into custody.no name/suspect- "i was sleeping, i woke up, i looked through the window -- i seen like big ak-47." that's the voice of a man who lives here at the poplar arms apartments in san mateo. he says he was one of the focuses of the morning raids carried out by the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms.no name/suspect- "i ran back to my mom's room, calmed her down, and i told her that nothing was going on." he didn't know what was behind the search and arrest

warrants served here and throughout the city related to this operation... but says he was released from jail tuesday and his record may have been a factor. his pregnant sister showed us the aftermath inside the apartment. their neighbor -- still startled by what he saw. augustine torres/neighbor- "she got thrown on the floor, but she was experiencing a pain on her belly, so she uh, request to us to uh call 9-11." no one from that family was taken into custody. the pregnant woman's family took her to see a doctor as a precaution. some neighbors reported hearing what sounded like gunfire... but the san mateo police department says those were actually devices used to distract suspects and not actually harm them.augustine torres/neighbo r- "i'm scared, nervous and uh, insecure about the situation this morning." the a-t-f says it's investigation is on-going... but hope to shed some light on the reasoning behind this operation in the coming days. in san mateo, philippe djegal, kron four news. a search is underway for a man who police say assaulted a young girl in half moon bay. kron 4's sarah stinson reports. right now san mateo detectives are searching for the man who assaulted a 14-year-old girl walking her dog here in half moon bay.take a look at the map on your screen you can see it happened near the pillar point boat launch ramp parking lot on the night of june 30th.

three point six million in all, or about 80 every minute. economists credit the strong jobs market.653=thousand food workers quit in may ... and more than 900=thousand were hired.many of those were the same people ... moving to better jobs.in health care, 436 thousand quit, 632 thousand were hired.and retail sales, half a million workers left their jobs.three quarters of a million were hired. overall the total number of hires are now at the highest level in 17 years and the second highest on record. (grant) the university of california says it has admitted a record number of transfer students for this upcoming school year. this is part of the school system's plan to widen access to california community college students. the u-c system offered more than 130-thousand students admission to its nine campuses....as overall enrollment continues to increase every year. officials say they have already surpassed their goal of adding 10-thousand californians by the end of the next school year. still looking for a woman from oregon who went missing. today-- the san mateo county sheriff's office said they received a new lead-- and they are following up on it, but haven't released any other details. 23-year-old angela hernandez was last seen on friday passing through half moon bay. then hernandez's phone last pinged at a cell tower friday night 37 miles south of half moon bay... in davenport. she was traveling from oregon to southern california in a 20-11 white jeep patriot. her family is now offering a 10-thousand dollar reward for information on her whereabouts. .. (grant) in the east bay.... prosecutors have dropped charges against a former san leandro officer accused of rape. charges against marco becerra were dropped after the teen, now an adult, refused to cooperate. officials say becerra admitted to having sex with the 17- year-old while working in the department's explorer program. becerra, who was an instructor, claims the relationship was consensual but resigned shortly after an investigation began.

(grant) a cyclist was killed after being hit by a pickup truck in concord. the crash was reported last night just after midnight on san miguel road near systron drive. police say the man was crossing san miguel road when he was hit. the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. police say drugs and alcohol do ánot appear to be factors in this crash. (vicki) in the north bay... the sonoma county board of supervisors has decided against putting a half- cent housing recovery sales tax on the november ballot. the tax measure was intended to motivate new housing projects. the unincorporated area lost more then 22-hundred homes in the october wildfires. the measure was estimated to generate 7.3 million annually. the board of supervisors also declared a homeless state of emergency in sonoma county.. if approved by governor jerry brown it could provide 12 million dollars in one time funding. lawrence karnow: temperatures cooled but were still hot inland. highs were in the low 90s in the valleys, with 70s

embarcadero-- after this pedicab died from his injuries in a hit and run crash. 66-year-old kevin manning died monday night. he was injured in that hit and run crash on the embarcadero back on june 27th. and tonight police are still looking for the driver. firefighters came upon a unique situation....when an elderly woman was buried waist deep in sand near the mission creek river mouth.rich griguoli/santa barbara fire dept. "when we got closer to help pull her out. the sand was so wet it had a quicksand effect so we couldn't get close to help pull her out." firefighters also started getting stuck.so they had to change tactics.rich griguoli/santa barbara fire dept.
