to sydney, australia... started to experience mechanical issues with the left engine. the plane made several circles over the pacific ocean before an alert was called for. the pilot landed and taxied the plane under its own power to the gate at s-f-o. passengers exited through the airports gate... no injuries were reported. ( robin )a close call for a worker in the east bay.... after he falls 12- feet down into a cement mixer.it happened around 4:15 yesterday afternoon. joel canela reportedly lost his balance and fell inside the mixer. canela was stuck for more than two hours inside. rescuers had to use a harness, and worked to drain the mixer to get him out of there.

( robin )in palo alto... one person died at a worksite according to police. it happened yesterday morning outside a parking lot near a preschool and church, on middlefield road. a construction site reported the fatality. heavy equipment and machinery were on scene... but police are not releasing the worker's cause of death. a school representative says, the death is not connected to the school. police say, cal- osha will handle the investigation. the worker's identity has not been released. ( robin )a toddler is slowly recovering after bullet fragments hit him in the face. the shooting happened near east oakland pride elementary school ... on 80th avenue wednesday night around 9-30. kron 4's justine waldman talked exclusively with the child's family at the hospital.

3 year old nigel washington spent thursday in surgery. ...after a bullet sliced part of his face. the shooting on 80th avenue and holly street marks a spike in violence in oakland. bloodshed, the police department is determined to stop.sot it is difficult for our community to understand why these events continue to happen acting police chief chief leronne armstrong tells me the little boy was in the car with his mother... visiting a memorial for a murder victim, when the shooting happened wednesday night. at the scene now, shattered glass. and flowers. investigators don't believe there is a connection between the shooting and memorial. but admitted, tragic times attack additional violence, armstrong visited the boy in the hospital, bringing with him a teddy bear, he went to tell the family the department is doing everything to find the person responsible. including, a surge in staff in east and west oakland,sot redirected rescores and repeatedly additional officers areas seen slight increase in

violence to make sure we get on top of this as soon as possible that includes no one in the neighborhood would talk about the violence. the police deparmtment hopes a 5-thousand dollar reward, will push someone to come forward with information that leads to an arrest.sot when it affects our most vulnerable part of our society it is important that we all come together collectively to hold people accountable and hold people and bring somebody to justice for this shooting ( robin )fremont police say... they arrested the man responsible for several indecent exposure incidents over the past year. 31 year-old joseph an-gel-le is the man seen in this surveillance picture last thursday, in pleasanton. he is accused of similar

incidents in fremont and newark. detectives say, they were able to identify the suspect because of a tattoo on his right arm. after his arrest.. authorities say, he admitted to as many as 25- indecent exposure acts. he faces several felony and misdemeanor charges and is scheduled to be arraigned today. ( robin )a scary scene at the hayward bart station. police arrested a man they say was seen punching a woman repeatedly. it happened early wednesday morning. bart police say the victim..told them the same man raped her the day before at another location in hayward. right now it is unclear if the two knew each other. the suspect faces a slew of charges including rape, grand theft and posession of narcotics. he is scheduled to be arraigned today. ( robin )a new clue this morning in the mysterious disappearance of a woman traveling through the bay area. we are learning her car may have been seen further south, in the carmel highlands area of monterey county. kron4's philippe djegal spoke with investigators.

(philippe) the monterey county sheriff's office believes 23-year-old angela hernandez may have driven past a gas station in the carmel- highlands community the day she went missing. a white 20-11 jeep patriot matching the description of angela's car was seen on surveillance video friday. angela's family says the surveillance video was captured from the carmel-highlands station and general store along highway one. though, investigators say the video can't confirm angela was driving the car at the time, or that it had oregon plates like hers.john thornburg/commander- "we have a resident deputy down in that area. he's very, uh, very very very familiar with the residents down there and the vehicles and such, so he's looking." carmel-highlands is about 61 miles south davenport. that's the last place law enforcement says her cellphone showed a signal and that the cellphone hasn't sent a signal out since monday night. if she's in the carmel-highlands area, commander john thornburg says it's unlikely her phone can be traced.john thornburg/com mander- "it's not uncommon for

people to stop there and hang out there. there is no cell signal down there whatsoever once you passed a certain point, um, so we'll take a look." the california highway patrol is flying a helicopter along the coast to look for angela in areas unreachable on the ground. her family is still passing missing person fliers out along highway one. they haven't heard from her since she sent this text message to one of her sister's friday morning from half moon bay saying she was quote about to start driving. her family says it's totally out of character for her not to be in constant communication with them.john thornburg/commander- "and, we're not aware of any evidence that anything suspicious happened to her, um, we're just right now in that area or that time where we just don't know." hich has been difficult for angela's family. she was on her way down from portland oregon to lancaster in southern california to attend a wedding. in monterey county, philippe djegal, kron four news. we brought you wednesday on federal search warrants that were served across san mateo. officials now say six residents were taken into custody and indicted on various charges... involving methamphetamine trafficking. the charges range from possession with intent to distribute to conspiracy to distrubute. if convicted, the accused face minimum jail sentences of 3 to 10 years... up to life for the worst offenses. potential fines for the offfenses range from a maximum of 1 million... up to 10 million dollars. will pay 2-point-2 million dollars .. in order to settle a lawsuit filed by a former - black panther ... who was injured by a councilwoman back in 20-15. a jury found that oakland councilwoman desley brooks... seen here in file video ... punched and pushed black panther leader elaine brown.... during an argument over housing. brown was awarded more than 4-million dollars in damages ... in a civil suit against the city and the councilwoman. the city appealed the ruling, but the city council unanimously approved a settlement this week. the payment was lowered to 1-point-2 million in damages for brown, and one- million dollars to cover her legal fees. ( robin )students outraged after two bay area colleges announce their closing. argosy university in alameda and the art institute of california in san francisco will shut their doors in december.. leaving some students without a way to finish their degree. kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to veteran students.. who are

some of the most impacted. students anxious.. after two bay area school announce they'll close in december.in the last few years.. the art institute has closed more than a dozen campuses across the u.s.. the latest of which is the san francsico location. bill charuhas/student, the art institute of californiathe general feeling is that the floor dropped out underneath from everyone. you know, it's faculty, administration, students you name it. we are just kind of scrambling to figure out what's going to happen in december veteran students at the art institute say.. the school is leaving them without any viable options tobias goodliffe/student, the art institute of california this is devastating. i'm super upset. i'm an honorably discharged iraqi vetthe school says.. students can transfer to another campus.. the closest of which are in seattle, hollywood and san diego -- for 50 percent of the tuition.. or they'll receive 5- thousand dollars if they choose to go to another school. tobias goodliffe/veteran student the vets, we all, our medical doctors are here. everything is here, you know. and they don't have anything in place

program the schools say... they have to close because of declining enrollment... and the trend towards online classes. there are a lot of people that are also going to lose their jobs because of the closings. more than 200 school employees will be laid off. reporting in san francsico. hermela aregawi kron 4 news ( robin )for your health this morning... a salmonella outbreak linked to kellogg's honey smacks cereal... continues to grow. the centers for disease control and prevention says, there are now at least 100 confirmed cases of salmonella illness .... connected to the cereal. 33 people have been hospitalized due to the outbreak.. but there no reports of any deaths. if you have this cereal in your kitchen... throw it out immediately. all honey smacks cereal were recalled last month. ( robin ) two states are investigating whether mcdonald's salads are linked to a parasite that's sickened more than a hundred people. both the illinois and iowa departments of health say they

are looking into outbreaks of an intestinal illness. both states say mcdonald's is cooperating with both the c-d-c and f-d-a in investigating the illnesses. mcdonald's says it will voluntarily stop selling salads at its affected restaurants. nearly a dozen victims and survivors of the accused golden state killer -- joseph deangelo... were in a sacramento courtroom thursday. they said they wanted to see their alleged attacker in custody at the routine court hearing. the 72-year old former police officer... is charged with dozens of rapes .. and twelve murders across the state in the 19-70s and 80s. several women flew in from out of state to see deangelo behind bars for the first time. one of the victims described the encounter ... as "intense." deangelo is due back in court on september 5th. ( robin )investigators say a man smoking pot caused an explosion after lighting up in

a lab. it happened in soquel on tuesday afternn. santa cruz county sheriff's office found that the man was renting a portion of a home, allegedly using it as a lab. deputies say the large explosion injured the man and two other people. no arrests have been made in the case and sheriff's officials said they are pursuing charges against the man who allegedly operated the lab. ( robin )a man is at large after a man is at large after robbing two banks.it happened yesterday morning first in danville at the first republic bank on hartz ave. that robbery was reported right before noon. the suspect flashed a gun and demanded money from the teller. he then robbed a u.s. bank inside a safeway in san ramon. here's a picture of the suspect. he's said to be about 6-1 in height. wearing a white hat with an american flag on it. anyone who has seen this man, or may have information about

pick up dwight hammond jr and his son steven hammond. both men had been convicted of arson for setting a fire on federal land in oregon where they had grazing rights for their cattle. they were seenced to five years in federal prison in southern california.4225 this transpired because the hammonds got thrown in jail several years ago for something they were not guilty of at all. 4233 the prison sentence launched a fierce response from other western ranchers and their supporters who accused the federal government of overreach when it comes to the use of public lands. forrest lucas is from indiana.. but has become active in defending western ranchers.4713 the cattlemen, a lot of them are broke. they're going out of business. this is something they need to understand in dc that the west needs some help. 4722 he just happens to know someone very powerful in d-c.4403 mike pence. i told him about this and we should do something about it. because it'd be good for the republican party. good

( sara )the united plane was headed to sydney when it suddenly experienced a mechanical issue with the left engine.you can see in the video the pilot was able to land safely back here at sfo. no one was injured. the united flight 8-6-3 took off around 11:15 last night and soon after the plane began experiencing the mechanical issues while over the pacific ocean. the pilot made several circles over the ocean before an alert two was called around an hour later. an alert two is called when the pilot believes a malfunction is signifigant enough to effect the control of the aircraft. and s-f-o

airport fire staff is called into standby position. the plane was able to taxi under its own power to a normal gate where passengers got off safe. we spoke to one woman who was sitting on the side that had issues she described the moments she knew something was wrong.

hit-and-run accident. the accident actually happened in august of last year but police are just releasing this picture of the car. two people were hit while crossing the street near bancroft and 78th avenues... including a 19- year-old pregnant woman. the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition... and just days later she lost her unborn baby. the car is described as a light olor 4-dorr hyundai with frint end damage ( darya ) happening now... police in san francisco are looking for the person who stabbed a man in san francisco. the victim is in the hospital with life threatening injuries this morning. it happened on the 900 block of howard street. a witness saw the victim laying on the ground while the attacker was standing over him. the attacker then got into a car and took off west on howard. there is no description of the attacker. ( terisa ) new this morning... we know now the name of the east bay worker who fell 12-feet down a cement mixer in union city.

joel canela was flown to u-c davis after the accident. a co-worker tells kron-4 that canela's condition has worsened because of all of the dust he breathed in. the accident happened around four yesterday afternoon. canela lost his balance and fell inside the mixer. he was stuck for more than two hours. rescuers had to drain the mixer to get him out. > ( terisa ) osha was at the scene investigating the accident. the number one priority was breathing issues. rescuers and canela were given oxygen because the chemicals are were so strong. ( terisa ) one person has

died at a worksite in palo alto. it happened at a construction site near a preschool and church on middlefield road. heavy equipment and machinery were on scene... but police are not revealing the worker's cause of death or his identity. ( darya ) happening today... the man convicted for his role in the death of an oakland mother will be sentenced. anthony sims took part in a gun battle between 2 groups back in march 2015 in west oakland. shamale pierce got caught in the crossfire... she was killed while trying to protect her children. ( darya ) new this morning... more than 2 years after she was kidnapped... we're getting a look at pearl pinson would look like today. the national center for missing and exploited children created this rendering. pinson would be 17 now. she was last seen back in may 2016. witnesses saw a man grab her at the overpass right by her house. that man -- fernando castro -- died in a

shootout with law enforcement in southern california. detectives say pinson's blood was found in castro's car. ( terisa ) the monterey county sheriff's office has taken over the search for a missing oregon woman. they believe angela hernandez may have driven past a gas station in the carmel-highlands community. she was last heard from on friday... when she contacted her family from half moon bay. later that night... her phone sent out signals near davenport... just north of santa cruz. a jeep -- matching hernandez's -- was seen in carmel- highlands at a gas station. surveillance video was turned over to investigators. helicopter along the coast to look for hernandez in areas unreachable on the ground. her family is also passing missing person fliers out along highway one. ( darya ) in the north bay... 2 men who tried to rob an armored car facility in santa rosa are going to prison. milton gamez-fierro and jesus gomez-rosales tried to rob the garda world facility back in march. gamez- fierro was sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempted robbery and pointing a gun at officers. gomez-rosales was sentenced to 8 years in prison. ( darya ) trial is underway for the woman accused of throwing a dog from the 7th floor of a parking garage in san francisco. in court... prosecutors played surveillance video of the crime. wakeen "lala" best is accused of breaking into a car back in february. a 4-year-old chihuahua was in the car while his owner was out. police say best took the dog and threw it. when the owner returned to his car... he found smashed glass and blood. the dog was

( terisa ) we first told about the shooting wedesday night... it happened near east oakland pride elementary. kron 4's justine waldman spoke exclusively with the child's family. 3 year old nigel washington spent thursday in surgery. ...after a bullet sliced part of his face. the shooting on 80th avenue and holly street marks a spike in violence in oakland. bloodshed, the police department is determined to stop.sot it is difficult for our community to understand why these events continue to happen acting police chief chief leronne armstrong tells me the little boy was in the car with his mother... visiting a memorial for a murder victim, when the shooting happened wednesday night. at the scene now, shattered glass. and flowers. investigators don't believe there is a connection between the shooting and memorial. but admitted, tragic times attack

additional violence, armstrong visited the boy in the hospital, bringing with him a teddy bear, he went to tell the family the department is doing everything to find the person responsible. including, a surge in staff in east and west oakland,sot redirected rescores and repeatedly additional officers areas seen slight increase in violence to make sure we get on top of this as soon as possible that includes no one in the neighborhood would talk about the violence. the police deparmtment hopes a 5-thousand dollar reward, will push someone to come forward with information that leads to an arrest.sot when it affects our most vulnerable part of our society it is important that we all come together collectively to hold people accountable and hold people and bring somebody to justice for this shooting ( terisa ) ( terisa ) the woman accused of

beating a man in his 90's with a brick appeared in court thursday. laquisha jones is now charged with attempted murder and elder abuse in the july 4th assault. this picture is believed to be jones the day of the attack. the victim rodolfo rodriguez suffered broken ribs and a cheekbone. jones entered a not guilty plea in court. the judge set her bail at more than one- point-one milluion dollars. she is expected back in court july 26th. ( terisa ) students are outraged after two bay areas school annouce they'll close in december. argosy university in alameda and the art institute of california in san francisco will shut their doors... leaving some students scrambling to figure out how to finish their degree. the school says students can tranfers to another campus for 50-percent of the tuition or they'll receive 5-thousand

dollars if they choose to go to another school. veteran students at the art institute say the school is leaving them without any real viable options.

( darya ) a scary scene at the hayward bart station. police arrested a man they say punched a woman repeatedly. bart police say the victim told them that the same man raped her the day before the attack... at another location in hayward. the attacker is facing a number of charges including rape, grand theft and posession he is set to today. ( darya ) new this morning... police in oakland are stepping up their efforts to catch the driver who hit a pregnant woman... killing her baby. the accident actually happened in august of last year but police are just releasing this picture of the car. two people were hit while crossing the street near bancroft and 78th avenues... including a 19- year-old pregnant woman. the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition... and just days later she lost her unborn baby. the car is described as a light olor 4-dorr hyundai with frint end damage ( darya ) happening now... police in san francisco are looking for the person who stabbed a man in san francisco. the victim is in the hospital with life threatening injuries this morning. it happened on the 900 block of howard street. a witness

saw the victim laying on the ground while the attacker was standing over him. the attacker then got into a car and took off west on howard. there is no description of the attacker. ( terisa ) new this morning... we know now the name of the east bay worker who fell 12-feet down a cement mixer in union city. joel canela was flown to u-c davis after the accident. a co-worker tells kron-4 that canela's condition has worsened because of all of the dust he breathed in. the accident happened around four yesterday afternoon. canela lost his balance and fell inside the mixer. he was stuck for more than two hours. rescuers had to drain the mixer to get him out. >( terisa ) osha

public access to a gated beach in santa cruz have been rejected. ( darya ) after a bay area woman's racist road rage rant went viral... she got fired. ánow many are wondering what rights employees and employers have... when trouble strikes áoutside of the workplace. legal expert, holly sutton, says there's really no easy answer. but, sutton says the california labor code... does allow an employee to file a claim for being fired for lawful conduct... while away from the workplace. ( darya )no word on if the woman in the road rage incident has filed a lawsuit or complaint... against her previous employer.
