to sydney, australia... started to experience mechanical issues with the left engine. the plane made several circles over the pacific ocean before an alert was called for. the pilot landed and taxied the plane under its own power to the gate at s-f-o. passengers exited through the airports gate... no injuries were reported. ( robin )a close call for a worker in the east bay.... after he falls 12- feet down into a cement mixer.it happened around 4:15 yesterday afternoon. joel canela reportedly lost his balance and fell inside the mixer. canela was stuck for more than two hours inside. rescuers had to use a harness, and worked to drain the mixer to get him out of there.

( robin )in palo alto... one person died at a worksite according to police. it happened yesterday morning outside a parking lot near a preschool and church, on middlefield road. a construction site reported the fatality. heavy equipment and machinery were on scene... but police are not releasing the worker's cause of death. a school representative says, the death is not connected to the school. police say, cal- osha will handle the investigation. the worker's identity has not been released. ( robin )a toddler is slowly recovering after bullet fragments hit him in the face. the shooting happened near east oakland pride elementary school ... on 80th avenue wednesday night around 9-30. kron 4's justine waldman talked exclusively with the child's family at the hospital.

3 year old nigel washington spent thursday in surgery. ...after a bullet sliced part of his face. the shooting on 80th avenue and holly street marks a spike in violence in oakland. bloodshed, the police department is determined to stop.sot it is difficult for our community to understand why these events continue to happen acting police chief chief leronne armstrong tells me the little boy was in the car with his mother... visiting a memorial for a murder victim, when the shooting happened wednesday night. at the scene now, shattered glass. and flowers. investigators don't believe there is a connection between the shooting and memorial. but admitted, tragic times attack additional violence, armstrong visited the boy in the hospital, bringing with him a teddy bear, he went to tell the family the department is doing everything to find the person responsible. including, a surge in staff in east and west oakland,sot redirected rescores and repeatedly additional officers areas seen slight increase in

violence to make sure we get on top of this as soon as possible that includes no one in the neighborhood would talk about the violence. the police deparmtment hopes a 5-thousand dollar reward, will push someone to come forward with information that leads to an arrest.sot when it affects our most vulnerable part of our society it is important that we all come together collectively to hold people accountable and hold people and bring somebody to justice for this shooting ( robin )fremont police say... they arrested the man responsible for several indecent exposure incidents over the past year. 31 year-old joseph an-gel-le is the man seen in this surveillance picture last thursday, in pleasanton. he is accused of similar

incidents in fremont and newark. detectives say, they were able to identify the suspect because of a tattoo on his right arm. after his arrest.. authorities say, he admitted to as many as 25- indecent exposure acts. he faces several felony and misdemeanor charges and is scheduled to be arraigned today. ( robin )a scary scene at the hayward bart station. police arrested a man they say was seen punching a woman repeatedly. it happened early wednesday morning. bart police say the victim..told them the same man raped her the day before at another location in hayward. right now it is unclear if the two knew each other. the suspect faces a slew of charges including rape, grand theft and posession of narcotics. he is scheduled to be arraigned today. ( robin )a new clue this morning in the mysterious disappearance of a woman traveling through the bay area. we are learning her car may have been seen further south, in the carmel highlands area of monterey county. kron4's philippe djegal spoke with investigators.

(philippe) the monterey county sheriff's office believes 23-year-old angela hernandez may have driven past a gas station in the carmel- highlands community the day she went missing. a white 20-11 jeep patriot matching the description of angela's car was seen on surveillance video friday. angela's family says the surveillance video was captured from the carmel-highlands station and general store along highway one. though, investigators say the video can't confirm angela was driving the car at the time, or that it had oregon plates like hers.john thornburg/commander- "we have a resident deputy down in that area. he's very, uh, very very very familiar with the residents down there and the vehicles and such, so he's looking." carmel-highlands is about 61 miles south davenport. that's the last place law enforcement says her cellphone showed a signal and that the cellphone hasn't sent a signal out since monday night. if she's in the carmel-highlands area, commander john thornburg says it's unlikely her phone can be traced.john thornburg/com mander- "it's not uncommon for

we brought you wednesday on federal search warrants that were served across san mateo. officials now say six residents were taken into custody and indicted on various charges... involving methamphetamine trafficking. the charges range from possession with intent to distribute to conspiracy to distrubute. if convicted, the accused face minimum jail sentences of 3 to 10 years... up to life for the worst offenses. potential fines for the offfenses range from a maximum of 1 million... up to 10 million dollars. will pay 2-point-2 million dollars .. in order to settle a lawsuit filed by a former - black panther ... who was injured by a councilwoman back in 20-15. a jury found that oakland councilwoman desley brooks... seen here in file video ... punched and pushed black panther leader elaine brown.... during an argument over housing. brown was awarded more than 4-million dollars in damages ... in a civil suit against the city and the councilwoman. the city appealed the ruling, but the city council unanimously approved a settlement this week. the payment was lowered to 1-point-2 million in damages for brown, and one- million dollars to cover her legal fees. ( robin )students outraged after two bay area colleges announce their closing. argosy university in alameda and the art institute of california in san francisco will shut their doors in december.. leaving some students without a way to finish their degree. kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to veteran students.. who are

program the schools say... they have to close because of declining enrollment... and the trend towards online classes. there are a lot of people that are also going to lose their jobs because of the closings. more than 200 school employees will be laid off. reporting in san francsico. hermela aregawi kron 4 news ( robin )for your health this morning... a salmonella outbreak linked to kellogg's honey smacks cereal... continues to grow. the centers for disease control and prevention says, there are now at least 100 confirmed cases of salmonella illness .... connected to the cereal. 33 people have been hospitalized due to the outbreak.. but there no reports of any deaths. if you have this cereal in your kitchen... throw it out immediately. all honey smacks cereal were recalled last month. ( robin ) two states are investigating whether mcdonald's salads are linked to a parasite that's sickened more than a hundred people. both the illinois and iowa departments of health say they

nearly a dozen victims and survivors of the accused golden state killer -- joseph deangelo... were in a sacramento courtroom thursday. they said they wanted to see their alleged attacker in custody at the routine court hearing. the 72-year old former police officer... is charged with dozens of rapes .. and twelve murders across the state in the 19-70s and 80s. several women flew in from out of state to see deangelo behind bars for the first time. one of the victims described the encounter ... as "intense." deangelo is due back in court on september 5th. ( robin )investigators say a man smoking pot caused an explosion after lighting up in

a lab. it happened in soquel on tuesday afternn. santa cruz county sheriff's office found that the man was renting a portion of a home, allegedly using it as a lab. deputies say the large explosion injured the man and two other people. no arrests have been made in the case and sheriff's officials said they are pursuing charges against the man who allegedly operated the lab. joel canela was flown to u-c davis after the accident. a co-worker tells kron-4 that canela's condition has worsened because of all of the dust he breathed in. the accident happened around four yesterday afternoon. canela lost his balance and fell inside the mixer. he was stuck for more than two hours. rescuers had to drain the mixer to get him out. > ( terisa ) osha was at the scene investigating the accident. the number one priority was breathing issues. rescuers and canela were given oxygen because the chemicals are were so strong.
