(grant) tonight at 5... a woman lives to tell her story... after crashing her jeep off a cliff in big sur. angela hernandez was found friday -- after being stranded on the beach for a week. and she is now revealing exactly how she survived. good evening i'm grant lodes. kron 4's dan kerman is live at the san francisco hall of justice with more. it now turns out that orlando lazo, the man arrested for sexually assaulting 4 women in san francisco while posing as a rideshare driver, actually was employed by lyft, one of the two main rideshare companies in the city.in an email to kron 4 news lyft says "we have confirmed that this person did drive for lyft, but as soon as we were made aware of these horrific and deeply disturbing allegations, we immediately deactivated him. we are still investigating at this time, but with the information presented, we have no reason to believe these incidents occurred on the platform." meaning while lazo was on duty. however lyft did not say how long lazo has been driving for them.police say the 4 women who were sexually assaulted were picked up by what they thought was the rideshare vehicle they had requested outside bars and nightclubs mostly in the south of market area, only to be taken to another location and sexually assaulted. police say dna evidence has linked lazo to an attack in 2013, and 3 recent ones in february, may and june of this year. the sfpd's special victims unit stopped lazo last tuesday in the south of market area, obtained his dna and arrested him thursday for rape, false imprisonment and kidnapping.

(grant) developing news tonight... a "lava bomb" -- or a flying chunk of molten rock -- hit a tour boat off hawaii's big island today, injuring 23 people. the lava bomb left a large hole in the boat's roof and damaged a railing. 13 people were taken to a hospital, while another 10 passengers with minor injuries were treated at a harbor. one woman in her 20's suffered a fractured femur. hawaii's kilauea volcano started erupting in early may, sending lava into residential areas on the big island. those eruptions have not stopped. (grant) a wildfire burning near yosemite doubled in size overnight. the so called "ferguson fire" is burning in mariposa county tonight. it has burned more than 9-thousand acres and is just two-percent contained. yosemite park officials say all trails, campgrounds, restaurants and lodges are open... but smoke is creating

happening now... the d-m-v is working to relieving those long lines. today-- two bay area offices opened an hour early... to help ease some of the wait times. kron 4's lydia pantazes spoke to people who are tired of waiting. beginning today the dmv will also open 14 field offices one hour earlier, at 7 a.m. four days a week. in the bay area they include oakland-claremont and the san jose driver license processing center. the department of motor vehicles today announced it will open offices every saturday at 60 locations across the state starting in august 4th. the d-m-v already started

(grant) a quick- thinking cashier in stanislaus county...east of modesto...helped save a woman from suspected kidnappers. tom miller spoke with her...and heard about the moment she took action. this is the moment a woman who investigators say was kidnapped from fresno and sexually assaulted overnight got away from her captors -- by convincing them to let her use the bathroom.she walked into a waterford gas station and asked the first person she saw for help.savannah pritchett/cashier:"the first thing she did tell me was, 'i was kidnapped and they do have guns. please lock the door. they will kill us or kill me.' so it was kind of like, okay, well, all right."it was just before three, wednesday afternoon when 24-year old-savannah pritchett, a

(michelle) in the east bay... one person was injured in a shooting in concord. police say the shooting happened just before midnight last night near the intersection of san miguel road and hanford avenue. the victim suffered minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. there are no suspects and no arrests have been made. (michelle) the pittsburg city council is set to approve the first commercial facility for manufacturing and distributing pot products. canyon laboratories would operate the facility on clark avenue. the company would accept raw pot materials... process them into various products and then ship them to approved retail. tonights city council meeting begins at 7 at the city hall council chambers. (ken) kron 4's dan kerman is live at the san francisco hall of justice with more. more. federal immigration officials say orland vilchez lazo, the man arrested for sexually assaulting 4 women in san francisco while posing as a rideshare driver, is in the country illegally. in a statement they say on july 13, ice lodged a detainer with the san francisco county jail on orlando vilchez lazo --a citizen of peru illegally present in the u.s --following his recent arrest. ice would not say if they had any previous contact with the suspect or if he had been deported previously.it also turns out the suspect not only was posing as a rideshare driver, but was a rideshare driver, employed by lyft, one of the two main companies in the city.in an email to kron 4 news lyft says "we have confirmed that this person did drive for lyft, but as soon as we were made aware of these horrific and deeply disturbing allegations, we immediately deactivated him. we are still investigating at this time,

but with the information presented, we have no reason to believe these incidents occurred on the platform." meaning while lazo was on duty. however lyft did not say how long lazo has been driving for them.police say the 4 women who were sexually assaulted were picked up by what they thought was the rideshare vehicle they had requested outside bars and nightclubs mostly in the south of market area, only to be taken to another location and sexually assaulted. police say dna evidence has linked lazo to an attack in 2013, and 3 recent ones in february, may and june of this year. the sfpd's special victims unit stopped lazo last tuesday in the south of market area, obtained his dna and arrested him thursday for rape, false imprisonment and kidnapping.
