woman and killing her will be in court. otto hala-fi-hi is accused of pushing the woman and her 64-year-old caretaker to the ground and stealing a purse in concord. 93-year-old ann peterson was taken to the hospital where she died several days later. halafihi is already charged with robbery and elder abuse. during his court hearing today... the district attorney is expected to add murder charges. ( robin ) new this morning... a man is recovering after being assaulted in his own driveway. this happened in sonoma county. the victim returned home and found a man and a woman in a car blocking his driveway. this is on the 35-hundred block of piner road. there was also trash scattered along the road. when the victim asked the man to pick up the trash the man began punching and kicking him. he then started hitting the man with a belt. the attacker also stole the victims money. he is still on the loose this morning. citizens will be allowed to vote in san francisco school board elections starting this november. registration began yesterday. but as kron4's maureen kelly explains... signing up to vote also comes with a warning. the non citizen voter registration drive kicked off on the steps of san francisco city hall with a warning....we would say to please families we need you to have a voice were going to give you a voice be careful though in 2016 san francisco voters passed a charter amendemnt that allows non citizens to have a say when it comes their children's education....by allowing them to vote in the election of school board members.those behind the move say it's the democratic thing to do citing a stat that over a third of sfusd students are immigrants why would we not want our parents invested in the classroom of our children?but this new law kicks in just as the crackdown on the undocumented heats up under the trump administartation. those interested in excercising this new right are being told to get legal advice

before filling out this form....since the city can't block this information from ending up in the hands of federal immigration officials. what is very risky is that we don't know where this president will go. on the back of the information pamplet explaining the new city law ....is a list of immigrant rights groups who can help give advice.a representative of one group on this list says some non citizens parents have less at stake ...than others. they are residents they have visas they are part of the daca program information and their information already have the federal government already has so they're not running the risk of divulging that information immigrant parents you don't have any type of documentation they are at greater risk there are three open seats on the sf school board in this novemer's election....those non citizens who've weighed the risks and want to cast their until election register. maureen kelly kron4 news ( robin ) the wildfire burning near yosemite has doubled in size. the "ferguson fire" is burning in

broken ribs and a shoulder injury..."hernandez and her battered jeep were discovered by hikers on a remote beach near the intersection of highway one and thenaciamiento- fergusson road.steve bernal "....she in great spirits but she's anxious to get out of the hospital. she will have a long recovery because she basically survived on water..." on facebook, hernandez wrote how she found that water by following a dripping sound to a patch of moss and used an engine hose tocapture some. she wrote how she could see and tried to call out to cars passing above as she endured the elements but there were few cluesthat she was there. until chelsea and chadmoore came along.chad moore/found missing woman "...i said, chelsea, did you hear that? and she said, what? and then we heard it again and we turned around and we saw angela, she looked like hell but she was happy that we were there...:on her way from portland to southern california, law enforcement

( robin ) new san francisco mayor london breed has appointed one of her former legislative aides to affordable housing. prior to that... brown served as breed's legislative aide from 2013 to 2016. ( robin ) brown says as a supervisor... one of her priorities will be to create more housing within the district, in order to keep families and low-income workers from being displaced. ( robin ) in the east bay -- we have an update on the condition the alameda county fire department battalion chief... who was attacked by a pit bull at the scene of a house fire near san leandro. 19 dogs were found inside e house, 2 of them died in

the san leandro fire. kron 4's gabe slate spoke with a fellow firefighter who just visited chief in the hospital. on saturday a house fire broke out at 16011 maubert avenue, which is in an unincorporated area of alameda county near san leandro. no people were hurt. 2 dogs died in the fire, one adult male pit bull, and 16 other dogs, mostly puppies were found in the fire and rescued. alameda county fire officials say 20 year veteran alameda county battalion fire chief john whiting suffered extensive facial injuries after being attacked and bitten by the adult male pitbull. sound from ryan nishimoto - works with john whiting for alameda county fire department " he is such a good guy" ryan nesh ee moto works with john whiting at the alameda county fire station off san migel avenue in castro valley he told me he is well liked and respected. sound from ryan nishimoto - works with john

story we are following this morning... a mountain lion was caught roaming through a neighborhood in san mateo. police tracked it's movements for about 5 hours until it was finally tranquilized . kron 4's ella sogomonian has the story.

this now sedated 80 this now sedated 80 pound female mountain lion kept san mateo residents on the edge monday morning... as police shut down several neighborhood blocks in the baywood area during their search for the animal.sot: andy fest, witness// "we witnessed an amazing operation with san mateo pd and fish and wildlife. we just happened to be around the corner from where the animal was tranquilized and they were able to capture it."a call from two witnesses working on a home on virgina ave and alameda de las pulgas came in at 9:35 in the morning. frustrated drivers were rerouted at crystal springs road and nevada avenue during the five hour ordeal that police credit for the happy ending.sot: sgt. von glahn, san mateo police department// "we dont want to put the animal in a position where its being attacked ot threatened in any way so that's why we have a loose permiter and call out fish and wildlife because we want a successful outcome for the animal."neighbors say they're used to wildlife in the area and kept their small pets close by.sot: robert green, neighbor// "in spite of all the houses in the area there's still a lot of wildlife so it's not suprising and that's why we have a mountain lion in the area and that's dangerous."sot: ella sogomonian// "and are you happy with the outcome here?" sot: lari caughlan, neighbor// "very much so, they didn't have to shoot it. that's amazing that the fish and game got out here in time it's the perfect scenario."tagpolice

spencer reports there are still dangers associated with it. plumes of smoke rise off the water, as the kilauea volcano continues to erupt.a group on a tour boat was getting a close look, early monday morning, when something terrifying happened... (screams, crashing noises) ikaika kalama, witness: "we seen parts of the lava on the vessel when we pulled up to it."the tour boat was hit by a "lava bomb" -- a clump of molten rock sent into the air by the erupting volcano -- which ripped through the roof of the tour boat.ikaika kalama, witness: "there was a few big chunks that was on the roof, and we could see chunks laying all over the side of the boat and on the floor of the boat."a witness who saw the boat return says one person was taken off the boat on a stretcher and others walked off with burns and gashes on their legs.on the line with dispatch, one of the first responders relayed what happened to one of the women on board...medic to dispatch: "piece of lava flew towards the boat, she closed her eyes, and next thing she knew, she felt pain to her left leg and to her lower back."nearly two dozen people were hurt. 13 of them were taken to the

say orlando lazo is in the country illegally... but would not say if they had prior contact with him. we have also learned that lazo was actually employed by lyft. in a statement to kron4... lyft says it immediately deactivated lazo after the allegations came to light. they did not say how long lazo has been driving for them. so far... four women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault. police say d-n-a evidence has linked lazo to an attack in 20-13... and 3 recent sexual assaults in february, may and june of this year. ( robin ) a five-year-old is assaulted in a bathroom at travis air force base. the victim's mother says her daughter was touched inappropriately by another young girl in the bathroom. the victim's mother works at a childcare facility on the base. she posted a video online warning parents that their kids could be in danger. the victim's god mother pointed to recent

( darya ) police have arrested three people for a violent attack at an antioch gas station. the attack happened back in may. a man was attacked by five gang members while he sat in his car on lone tree way. the attackers punched and kicked the victim and then shot at him while they drove away. police arrested marcos torres and adrian nevarez for attempted murder. 22-year-old ismael viveros was arrested friday. he was found in concord. ( darya ) in the north bay... santa rosa police have arrested a man accused of breaking into two homes and stealing women's underwear. detectives say 65-year old

cornell holiday worked at the apartment complex where the burglaries happened. holiday is accused of using his work keys to enter the women's apartments. police say he then took some of their clothing including underwear. ( james ) police in the east bay are looking for a robber who stole a laptop from a woman at starbucks. it happened on willow avenue in hercules. a woman was on her laptop when the thief suddenly grabbed it. after a struggle... the robber got away with the computer... and got into a newer model white hyundai sonata with yellow and blue "stoneridge" paper plates. a woman was the get away driver. this is not the first time thieves have targeted customers at this starbucks. county deputy is facing charges for fatally shooting a woman during a chase. the family of the victim says she was bi-polar and needed help. this is dash cam video of the chase that happened in february of last year. deputy justin wall was just one of several officers pursuing the woman. the woman stopped her car... but then reversed and started to pull away from the officers.

wall was the only one to fire at the driver.. killing 46-year-old evin yadeger. wall has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in yadegar's death. he'll be court later this month. ( darya ) a humboldt county woman is recovering after being bitten by a shark. salmon sharks have been washing up on beaches up and down the north coast over the last couple weeks. over the weekend... one of those sharks bit a 59-year-old woman's leg. the sheriff's office says the woman was wading in water about one foot deep -- trying to snap a picture of the predator. ( darya ) experts say you don't have to worry about being bit. cases like this are rare.

80-thousand africanized bees sent 6 people to the hospital in orange county... including a woman who is now in critical condition. the bees completely encircled the woman... as she was getting something from the trunk of her car. she was parked just a few feet away from the hive. when firefighters got the scene... they couldn't even see the woman's face. ( james ) firefighters used their extinguishers on the bees... but that only worked for a few seconds. the bees stung firefighters as well. but they eventually got the woman away from the bees and into an ambulance. ( darya ) happening today... the man accused of attacking a 93-year-old woman and killing her will be in court. otto halafihi is accused of pushing the woman and her 64-year-old caretaker to the ground and stealing a purse in concord. 93-year-old ann peterson was taken to the hospital where she died several days later. halafihi is already charged with robbery and elder abuse. during his court hearing today... the district attorney is expected to add murder charges. ( darya ) new this morning... a man is recovering after being assaulted with in his own driveway in sonoma county.

the victim returned home and found a man and a woman in a car blocking his driveway. this is on the 35-hundred block of piner road. there was also trash scattered along the road. when the victim asked the man to pick up the trash the man began punching and kicking him. he then started hitting the man with a belt. the attacker also stole the victim's money. the thief is still on the loose this morning. ( james ) the wildfire burning near yosemite has doubled in size. the "ferguson fire" is burning in mariposa county. it has burned more than 9-thousand acres and it is just two- percent contained this morning. yosemite park officials say all trails... campgrounds... restaurants and lodges are open... but smoke is creating poor air quality. mandatory evacuations remain in effect for some areas. one firefighter has died while fighting this fire. ( james ) in the east bay... we have an update on the condition the alameda county fire battalion chief... who was attacked by a pit bull at a house fire near san leandro. officials say the chief's spirits are up and he

is able to talk. he will have to undergo more surgeries. no charges have been filed against dog's owner. 16 other dogs that were found at the scene... have been checked out by a vet and they are in good shape and will be able to be adopted soon. a preliminary investigation hasn't found any evidence of animal cruelty. police are still trying to figure out wha to do with the dog that attacked the chief. ( james ) 19 dogs in total were found inside the house... 2 of them died in the fire. ( darya ) police have arrested three people for a violent attack at an antioch gas station. the attack happened back in may. a man was attacked by five gang members while he sat in his car on lone tree way. the attackers punched and kicked the victim and then shot at him while they drove away. police arrested marcos torres

( darya ) in the north bay... santa rosa police have arrested a man accused of breaking into two homes and stealing women's underwear. detectives say 65-year old cornell holiday worked at the apartment complex where the burglaries happened. holiday is accused of using his work keys to enter the women's apartments. police say he then took some of their clothing including underwear. ( james ) police in the east bay are looking for a robber who stole a laptop from a woman at starbucks. it happened on willow avenue in hercules. a woman was on her laptop when the thief suddenly grabbed it. after a struggle... the robber got away with the computer... and got into a newer model white hyundai sonata with yellow and blue "stoneridge" paper plates. a woman was the get away

( darya ) a stanislaus county deputy is facing charges for fatally shooting a woman during a chase. the family of the victim says she was bi-polar and needed help. this is dash cam video of the chase that happened in february of last year. deputy justin wall was just one of several officers pursuing the woman. the woman stopped her car... but then reversed and started to pull away from the officers. wall was the only one to fire at the driver.. killing 46-year-old evin yadeger. wall has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in yadegar's death. he'll be court later this month. as we work into the start of the week. along the coast expect highs today in the 60's while inland ( james ) a big story this morning ... we continue to learn new information about the man dubbed the rideshare rapist.( darya ) the san mateo man is accused attacking four women in san francisco. kron 4's dan kerman has the latest. it now turns out that orlando lazo, the man arrested for sexually assaulting 4 women in san francisco while posing as a rideshare driver, actually was employed by lyft, one of the two main rideshare companies in the city.in an email to kron 4 news lyft says "we have confirmed that this person did drive for lyft, but as soon as we were made aware of these horrific and deeply disturbing allegations, we immediately deactivated him. we are still investigating at this time, but with the information presented, we have

no reason to believe these incidents occurred on the platform." meaning while lazo was on duty. however lyft did not say how long lazo has been driving for them.police say the 4 women who were sexually assaulted were picked up by what they thought was the rideshare vehicle they had requested outside bars and nightclubs mostly in the south of market area, only to be taken to another location and sexually assaulted. police say dna evidence has linked lazo to an attack in 2013, and 3 recent ones in february, may and june of this year. the sfpd's special victims unit stopped lazo last tuesday in the south of market area, obtained his dna and arrested him thursday for rape, false imprisonment and kidnapping. federal immigration have also confirmed vilchez lazo, is in the country illegally. in a statement they say on july 13, ice lodged a detainer with the san francisco county jail on orlando vilchez lazo --a citizen of peru illegally present in the u.s --following his recent arrest. ice would not say if they had any previous contact with the suspect or if he had been deported previously.standup dan kerman/sf 149-159san francisco police say they are convinced more victims will come forward in the days ahead. in the meantime, the da's office says it will file charges agaist the suspect. details will come at his arraignment tuesday afternoon. at the hall of justice in sf dan kerman kron 4 news.
