(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. lazo is accused of preying on intoxicated women while he posed as a driver. kron 4's terisa estacio was at the hearing today-- and says the man's wife was also in the courtroom. orlando lazo - the rideshare driver - faced the judge in san francisco superior court. his attorney strongly denied the horrific allegations against him including violently kidnapping and raping 4 women after they got into his car. (natural sound) not guilty your honor. after pleading not guilty. in court, lazo's attorney requested bail be set for his client arguing that he did not have a prior criminal history and that he is a family man referring to his wife, brother and nephew in court. kron four caught up with family members outside of court. natural sound - what do you have to say about this? is he innocent? did he rape those women? is he your brother? innocent? the case against lazo unfolded

following a coordinated task force - the first case allegedly took place in november of 2013. the next case, feb of this year a third case in may and a fourth case in june. in the most recent case, after the victim called for a rideshare outside temple bar. the victim was falling asleep and waking up throughout the course of the ride, when she awoke, she was in an unknown location and he began to threaten her and held a knife to her neck she realized the wetness of her hands was her own blood and that she had been trying to fend off the knife with her hands. that's when she was sexually assaulted." prosecutors say they have dna evidence in the case and beleive it is possible there are more victims out there in this case. alex. rape is one of the most horrific crimes imaginable in our criminal justic system and in this case we have 4 victims and asking public for help if anyone knows this man. sandy feinland, asst public defender innocent until proven guilty. estacio - the judge denied bail thursday, instead setting up a bail motion hearing for august. in meantime, lazo will remain in custody. in san francisco

want it in the area but fact of the matter is this stuff can happen anywhere">one resident who lives on the property says the victim was a friend who was visiting wednesday night. on thursday contra costa county sheriff's office anounced the arrest of two suspects in the deadly shooting. they are 22-year-old anthony gaines of richmond and 57-year old judy barkas of el sobrante. they have been booked on murder and conspiracy charges. bail has bet set separately for both suspects at $2-million-dollars each. investigators with the sheriff's office are asking anyone with information about this deadly shooting to give them a call...in el sorbrante haaziq madyun kron4news (grant) (grant) a big story in the south bay tonight... police say they've taken down several illegal gambling operations. kron four's rob fladeboe is live in san jose with the details. rob? (rob live) i'm here at a strip mall off cropley avenue in san jose. that computer repair shop behind mewas actually a casino. now it, and six other illegal gambling operations are out of business.

responding to complaints from neighbors in this and othe vietnamese neighborhoods, cropey pc repair and rentals here at a strip mall on cropley avenue and this nail sailon on north 14th street were the first to be raided. inside police found people engaged in illegal gambling. they were playing poker and other card games and there were las vegas style slot machines, fifty of which were seized and booked into evidence along with $75,000 dollars in cash. joined by the da's office and the state department of justice, search warrants were served at five other cafes, restaurants and other shops that were just storefronts posing as legitimate businesses. the gambling was contributing to other crime in thse same neighborhoods says san jose police lt. paul messier.lt. paulmessier/san jose police "....a lot of the people who frequent these places have a gambling addiction and they may be feeding that addiction by coitting other crimes so when we take one of these operations down it has a positive effect on the surrounding neighborhoods..." the district attorney's office believes the gambling is being orchestrated by vietnames gangs,who may be coercing some legitimate business owners into providing cover for the

animal cruelty cases are on the rise in san francisco. that's according to san francisco animal care and control. the reason why is not clear. the cases don't appear to be connected. kron four's philippe djegal explains two recent cases. one resulting in an arrest. (philippe) frail... dehydrated... and enduring unbearable pain... a 60-pound adult mastiff named sweetie boy, who if healthy should weigh at least 150 pounds... found malnourished in san francisco and all alone.richard batchelder/dog walker- "a couple of friends of mine who walk here at the park, um, saw, saw the dog, took photos and uh, contacted the authorities. so, hopefully, you know the information is out there and we'll find the person." unfortunately, sweetie boy was in such bad shape when he was found abandoned here at progress park on monday... that animal care and control says he had to be euthanized later that day.virginia

donohue/sfacc- "it was terrible. i mean, we administered fluids, uh, completely unresponsive and really suffering." virginia donohue (dunn- uh-heyou) with san francisco animal care and control says she suspects sweetie boy's owner dropped him off at the park near interstate 280 sometime late sunday night or early monday morning. in this case, the owner has not been found. in another case, there's been an arrest. christopher kliment was taken into custody july third after surveillance video captured him beating his four-year-old pitbull mix named juicy on march 30th at the powell street bart station. donohue says the only reason he was caught is because he came to the shelter the day he was arrested looking for his dog.virginia donohue/sfacc- "he threatened our officers and he arrived at the shelter holding a very big knife. so, in general, yeah, there are, there are issues there." juicy is not eligbile for adoption until kliment's case is resolved in court. in the meantime, juicy is rehabbing at the shelter, where she is expected to make a full recovery. animal care and control says it is currently investigating four animal cruelty cases which they say is a high number. in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news.

chopper nat(grant) fatigue is becoming a factor on the firelines in the sierra tonight. this is now day six...and that giant wildfire near yosemite has spread through thousands of new acres. the ferguson fire has now topped 20=thousand acres and is only seven percent contained.it's closed one of the main roads to yosemite valley and is threatening more than 1=hundred structures.

on the weather in that area... chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with details on the poor air quality. lawrence karnow: it was another hot day inland with highs in the low to mid 90s. its starting to feel a little muggy too as monsoonal clouds move in. fog continued a the coast where highs were in the 50s and 60s. doppler radar is tracking intense storms over the sierra. dozens of lightning strikes can be seen over the mountains. the concern is that we could also see more fires from the lightning. on the satellite image you can see our high pressure starting to weaken and move east. that will allow for cooler temperatures to return into the weekend. at the same time monsoonal clouds will bring a slight chance of showers to the bay area and even an isolated thunderstorm. highs tomorrow will be in the upper 80s and low 90s with 50s and 60s and patchy fog at the coast. it will cool until near normal this weekend and then get hot again toward the middle of next week.

aren't distracted enough! check out this man who was spotted by several motorists riding a bicycle naked on northbound 101 in san jose yesterday. kron4's maureen kelly talked to the chp who says this is no laughing matter. commuters driving on 101 between alum rock and story road got quite an eyefull wednesday morning. the chp says they got multiple calls reporting a naked man riding a bicycle on the freeway around 93oam....you can see in this picture he's not only on the shoulder....but actually in a lane of traffic headed northbound......the chp says at least one caller called in that the man jumped over the median and and kept heading nouthbound going against traffic in the southbound lanes. while these pictures

(vicki) nearly two dozen soldiers are recovering tonight...after a training accident in monterey county. a u-s army uh-60 blackhawk helicopter blew over two large tent structures at fort hunter liggett. the collapse left 22 soldiers injured -- but 22 soldiers injuries weren't serious. two soldiers were airlifted to a hospital in templeton. it happened during an exercise that trains army reserve and army national guard soldiers. (vicki) in the south bay... a man has been arrested after investigators say he defrauded immigrants out of thousands of dollars for fake services. kron 4's lydia pantazas is in san jose with the details. the santa clara county fraud unit is looking for more victims after arresting a man for providing fraudulent immigration services. gerardo duenes previously worked as an immigration officer for the i-n-s. police say he used that experience to attract customers... but did not tell those customers that he was fired by the i-n-s while being investigated for fraud. investigators say that duenes was running an immigration consultant business in san jose without clearance from the california secretary of state. the victims who have come forward say the suffered major financial loses and missed possible

(grant) bart is extending it's elevator attendant program. back in may... bart hired 35 staff members to stop people from using the elevators as toilets at the civic center and powell street stations in san francisco. the 6-month pilot program has been extended. it will now run through november of 20-19. attendants are on the elevators everyday from open to close. (vicki) in palo alto... police say a man was caught on surveillance video peering into a bedroom. the homeowner called police after getting an alert from his security system. video shows the man getting into the backyard through a closed gate. this is a still image from that video. police want to hear from anyone who knows this man. (grant) in the north bay... an update on the oxygen tanker truck explosion that forced people inside a medical office to evacuate. police say the tanker exploded as it was delivering oxygen to an on-site tank near the rear of the kaiser offices. the tanker has major damage-- and several cars in the parking lot were also damaged from the debris. it's not clear what caused the explosion. the driver of the truck was seriously injured-- but is in stable condition tonight. shooting takes the life of someone visiting friends in the east bay. it happened outside a home in el sobrante. and a short time ago... police announced they arrested two suspects in the case. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. two suspects have been arrested for the wednesday night's deadly shooting of a 22-year-old man here on the 4800 block of san pablo dam road in el sobrantesot investigators with the contra costa county sheriff's office received a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound on the ground in the driveway of this property. deputies initiated cpr but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. the homicde investigation continued into the better part of thursday. multiple deputies

(justine) covered california announced today that monthly premiums will rise by an average of 8.7 percent next year. this will impact more than 1 million people in california who buy health insurance under former president barack obama's health care law. covered california executive director peter lee says the boost would be closer to five percent if not for the decision by congress and president donald trump to eliminate the penalty for people who do not have insurance. however, critics say nobody should be forced to buy a health plan.

creek is testing a pilot program in which seniors can schedule a lyft driver for free rides. those free rides will come during hours when regular senior para- transit service isn't available. according to walnut creek's recreation program, this is the first program in the bay area to provide free rides for people 60 and older to general locations using a ride-hailing company. drivers will still get paid and the money is coming from a two year grant, funded by two contra costa county transportation agencies.
