( marty ) new this morning... one person is injured and two homes are hit with gunfire after an overnight shooting in berkeley. it happened on the one- thousand block of delaware street around 1:20 this morning. police in the area heard the shots fired. the victim is expected to be okay. two homes were also hit by gunfire. police have not released any information about a possible shooter. ( marty ) a big story we are following this morning... one person is dead and 6 others injured after a shooting and hostage situation at a trader joe's in los angeles. the accused shooter is now in custody. this is video from the scene yesterday afternoon. police say it all started when a man shot his grandmother and girlfriend. he then led police on a chase through the city. the chase ended when he crashed his car in front of the grocery store and ran inside. witnesses say

employees and customers ran to back windows to escape. ( marty ) and after three hours, the shooter surrendered. this morning there is no word on the condition of the six other people who were injured. were killed when a gunman opened fire at a parkland high school in february. since then... students have led marches and rally's across the country to protest gun violence. this is video of some of those protests. today's rally in oakland will feature a barbeque and a voter registration drive. it starts at 2:00 at defermery park on adeline street. ( marty ) new this morning... five fisherman are rescued overnight after being stranded by a rising tide in marin county. the four men and one woman were stranded around 9:00 last night off the coast just south of muir beach. fire crews led the rescue effort, and guided the group safely back to shore. no one was injured. ( marty ) in the east bay... one person is dead after getting into a fight early saturday morning. it happened on the 37-hundred block of sunset lane. police found the 55-year-old victim on the ground. he was airlifted to a hospital where he died. a 31-year- old man was taken into custody

but police have not released any information about that man. they have also not said what led up to that fight. ( marty ) in the east bay, another big story we are following this morning... a police chase turns deadly on highway 24 in orinda. the chase started when the driver refused to stop during a routine traffic stop.it ended when the driver flipped over on the highway and the car burst into flames. the freeway was closed for 6 hours yesterday. there were two people inside the car when it flipped. one of them died. the other is in the hospital this morning. it is not clear why the people in the car were trying to get away from police. in south santa rosa. for your money this morning... many married couples keep it under wraps, if the wife earns more money than her husband. that's according to two researchers who looked into census data. they say both husbands and wives in those marriages will say the husbands' paychecks are higher. even if that isnt true. the study found wives exaggerate more about how much their husbands earn. one researcher says couples do that to fit into perceived social norms. ( marty )wells fargo is now issuing refunds to customers who were charged for pet insurance, home warranties, and other types of insurance. the bank is paying people back for "add-on" products they didn't need... or understand. those refunds are on top of the hundreds of millions of dollars... wells fargo is paying out for deceiving its consumers. potentially cause sanitation issues. the potential business could house up to 125 dogs at a time in the future. some neighbors believe this will bring additional noise and parking issues to their community. ( marty ) and take a look at this... firefighters in the east bay tweeted these pictures. that is a car in the tree in brentwood. it's near brentwood boulevard, close to the cemetary. it is not clear how the car ended up in the tree but firefighters say the driver was able to get out of the car and only suffered minor injuries. ( marty ) residents and tourists are celebrating the re-opening of a portion of a scenic highway on the coast. it comes more than a year after a mud slide buried highway-one at big sur. reporter josh kristianto was there for the "ribbon-cutting"

that wrapped up the 54-million dollar repair job. after more after more than a year of round the clock work, caltrans is finally celebrating a major engineering feat. joe erwin, caltrans district 5 project manager: "this is not a typical type of project that caltrans would tackle."butted josh kristianto reporting: "highway 1 was already closed in the mud creek area because of a few landslides that occurred in april of 2017. but come may of that year, that's when the big one happened."on may 20th last year, about six million cubic yards of debris came down onto highway 1 in mud creek.it created 24- hundred feet of new shoreline, and 15 acres of new land. landslides are a regular thing in california.but mud creek presented its own challenges. joe erwin, caltrans district 5 project manager: "it's an active landslide on top of that. so it's not just one challenge, it was multiple challenges of rocks and debris coming down still and then also the ocean causing challenges."caltrans hired a contractor - john madonna construction - who was already working on smaller landslides in the mud creek area.they had about 35 people out working 25

(philippe)nats- "we know that the families will grieve all their lives for their children and so we pray for them on this day." it was an emotional morning for the families of the young people who did not survive the deadly 20-15 balcony collapse in berkeley.jesse arreguin/mayor- "the balcony collapse is one of the saddest days in the history of our city." on saturday... at martin luther king junior civic park... the city unveiled a memorial plaque honoring the six irish and irsh american students... who fell 50 feet and died three years ago when a balacony crumbled during a birthday party. some of the victims' families traveled from overseas to attend the ceremony. ireland's ambassador to the united states, daniel mulhall made the trip from washington d-c.daniel mulhall/ambassador- "it's a tradition in ireland that many young irish people come to the united states, spend the summer, the student's summer as i did. and, therefore, we in ireland feel a great sense of contact with this tragedy of the loss of these six young people at

when she was hit. the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. officials believe the woman was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident. officials are still trying to locate the woman's family members. ( marty ) police in santa cruz have arrested a woman accused of hitting a pedestrian. santa cruz police have identified 24- year-old kelsey knoll from mount herman as the driver. the accident happened friday on modesto avenue. police say the car hit the pedstrian at the intersection of sacramento ave. the 23 year old pedestrian died at the scene. knoll is being charged with murder with more charges possible as the investigation continues. santa cruz police are still reviewing survaliance video in the area. ( marty ) in the north bay... a car drives into a post office in san rafael. this is on bellam boulevard... this happened saturday morning. the car knocked over a pillar and a mailbox at the entrance to the building. the post office was closed

( marty ) the santa cruz fire department is warning people about a company attempting to de-fraud local businesses. according to the fire department... someone has been going into businesses... posing as an employee with a fire extinguisher company... and telling them they need to have their fire extinguishers serviced. the company requests payments in cash. the scammers... may be in uniform and in a marked vehicle. they claim they were sent by the fire department. but fire officials say... that is not true. ( marty ) dozens of people lined san francisco's embarcadero saturday afternoon for a national "zero hour" youth march. bay area children and teenagers organized the event in support of youth rights and climate change. samantha may... an eleven-year-old from oakland, designed the mural in the center of the rally. she says the leaves and flowers represent the eco system... while the black-eyed susans symbolize justice.

san francisco's oldest restaurants..... has been delayed by a lawsuit. kron4's maureen kelly talked to those on all sides of the legal battle. after being closed for 10 years....the historic restaurant perched high on telegraph hill had been inching closer to reopening.....until this new legal setback. the planning commission allowed the new owner of nearly 100 year old hot spot an exemption so he could skip getting an enviromental review....that move brought a lawsuit against the city from a neighborhood group called the friends of

montgomery street..alledgiing the granting that exemption violated the california environmental quality act.one of those neighbors behind the suit told me by phone that he thinks city officials helping this restauarnt reopen are more motivated by nostalgia than what's right..he for one does not look back on when julius' castle was open as the good old days.there was a tremendous amount of traffic going back hundreds of cars a day trucks coming earlier in the morning and then noise up until around midnight. now the restaurant was already there what was open in the 1920s or something it goes way back. when it was open there was no such thing as an environmental impact report, the california environmental quality act which regulates all these things had not yet been passed had anyone tried to open a restaurant from scratch given the present legal situation it would never get approvedthe new owner, who says it's taken six years and millions of dollars to get the restaurant ready to once again says he has no plans to give up.i've had literally hundreds of people people talk about having a prom hear their first date here there for his job interview it's endless every time i meet people who are all-time san frcisco they have some special memory here and i want to keep that alivea spokesperson for the city attorney calls the lawsuit baseless and a classic case of nimbyism....a hearing is set for november...the new owner

news... the first trial in the special counsel's russia probe is set to begin in a matter of days. a hearing tomorrow will determine what evidence will be allowed at trial for president trump's former campaign chairman paul manafort. jury selection is expected to begin wednesday. with the trial starting at the end of the week. manafort faces 25 criminal charges in two separate cases in virginia and washington dc. he faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted of all counts. ( marty ) the man accused of a shooting spree inside a maryland newsroom has been indicted. 38-year-old jarod ramos was indicted yesterday by a jury on 23

charges -- including five counts of murder. he also faces weapons, attempted murder and assault charges. ramos is accused of walking into the capital gazette building on june 28th and opening fire, killing five people and injuring several more. his first court date is set for july 30th. ( marty ) if you were driving in san leandro this week... there's a decent chance you saw police out on patrol. kron 4's stanley roberts was there and watched as offciers handed out more than 300 tickets in just a few hours.in this edition of people behaving badly. i got caught behaving badly on average 109 tickets were handed out per hour in the city of san leandro so in 3 hours 327 tickets were issued by the hit team the reason i stopped you didn't came to a complete stop sign right back there without coming to a stop i kinda figured that hitt stands for high intensity traffic team, it's officers from all around alameda county including the sheriff's office and the california highway

( marty ) residents and tourists are celebrating the re-opening of a portion of a scenic highway on the coast. it comes more than a year after a mud slide buried highway-one at big sur. reporter josh kristianto was there for the "ribbon-cutting" that wrapped up the 54-million dollar repair job. after more than a year of round the clock work, caltrans is finally celebrating a major engineering feat. joe erwin, caltrans district 5 project manager: "this is not a typical type of project that caltrans would tackle."butted josh kristianto reporting: "highway 1 was already closed in the mud creek area because of a few landslides that occurred in april of 2017. but come may of that year, that's when the big one happened."on may 20th last year, about six million cubic yards of debris came down onto highway 1 in mud creek.it created 24- hundred feet of new shoreline, and 15 acres of new land.

"julius' castle"..... one of san francisco's oldest restaurants..... has been delayed by a lawsuit. kron4's maureen kelly talked to those on all sides of the legal battle. after being closed for 10 years....the historic restaurant perched high on telegraph hill had been inching closer to reopening.....until this new legal setback. the planning commission allowed the new owner of nearly 100 year old hot spot an exemption so he could skip getting an enviromental review....that move brought a lawsuit against the city from a neighborhood group called the friends of montgomery street..alledgiing the granting that exemption violated the california environmental quality act.one of those neighbors behind the suit told me by phone that he thinks city officials helping this restauarnt reopen are more motivated by nostalgia than what's right..he for one does not look back on when julius' castle was open as the good old days.there was a tremendous amount of traffic going back hundreds of cars a

( marty ) a big story we are following this morning... one person is dead and 6 others injured after a shooting and hostage situation at a trader joe's in los angeles. the accused shooter is now in custody. this is video from the scene yesterday afternoon. police say it all started when a man shot his grandmother and girlfriend. he then led police on a chase through the city. the chase ended when he crashed his car in front of the grocery store and ran inside. witnesses say employees and customers ran to back windows to escape.

20-15 balcony collapse in berkeley.jesse arreguin/mayor- "the balcony collapse is one of the saddest days in the history of our city." on saturday... at martin luther king junior civic park... the city unveiled a memorial plaque honoring the six irish and irsh american students... who fell 50 feet and died three years ago when a balacony crumbled during a birthday party. some of the victims' families traveled from overseas to attend the ceremony. ireland's ambassador to the united states, daniel mulhall made the trip from washington d-c.daniel mulhall/ambassador- "it's a tradition in ireland that many young irish people come to the united states, spend the summer, the student's summer as i did. and, therefore, we in ireland feel a great sense of contact with this tragedy of the loss of these six young people at the beginning of their lives." berkeley mayor jesse arreguin says the incident resulted in the city passing legislation... strengthening building

police have identified 24- year-old kelsey knoll from mount herman as the driver. the accident happened friday on modesto avenue. police say the car hit the pedstrian at the intersection of sacramento ave. the 23 year old pedestrian died at the scene. knoll is being charged with murder with more charges possible as the investigation continues. santa cruz police are still reviewing survaliance video in the area. ( marty ) in the north y... a car drives into a post office in san rafael. this is on bellam boulevard... this happened saturday morning. the car knocked over a pillar and a mailbox at the entrance to the building. the post office was closed while firefighters determined if it was safe to go inside. nobody was injured. ( marty ) the santa cruz fire department is warning people about a company attempting to de-fraud local businesses. according to the fire department... someone has been going into businesses... posing as an employee with a fire extinguisher company... and telling them they need to have their fire extinguishers serviced. the company

( marty ) dozens of people lined san francisco's embarcadero saturday afternoon for a national "zero hour" youth march. bay area children and teenagers organized the event in support of youth rights and climate change. samantha may... an eleven-year-old from oakland, designed the mural in the center of the rally. she says the leaves and flowers represent the eco system... while the black-eyed susans symbolize justice. kron4's maureen kelly talked to those on all sides of the legal battle. after being closed for 10 years....the historic restaurant perched high on telegraph hill had been inching closer to reopening.....until this new legal setback. the planning commission allowed the new owner of nearly 100 year old hot spot an exemption so he could skip getting an enviromental review....that move brought a lawsuit against the city from a neighborhood group called the friends of montgomery street..alledgiing the granting that exemption violated the california environmental quality act.one of those neighbors behind the suit told me by phone that he thinks city officials helping this restauarnt reopen are
