34th avenue and farnam street... in the fruitvale district. the people ran inside a home in the area. this is a picture from the scene. after an hour long standoff they surrendered. nobody was ( robin ) another big story we are following... a large grass fire is burning in milpitas this morning. that fire has burned about 300 acres. it is only 40% contained. one building was destroyed... about 10 others are threatened and some people were forced to evacuate. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the latest. saturday afternoon.. a grassfire is sparked.. and quickly spreads.burning through more than 300 acres within a few hours.primarily again because of that very typical afternoon breeze it push the fire southeast into a very steep drainage and so you've got the combination of topography it being steep and also just very thick brush in there. that once it got in there, it just makes it a little more challenging to extinguish it effectively.fire offificals say a handful of

people were evacuated.. after two ranch properties were deemed at threat... and they say one of the biggest problem areas is ed levin park.the active part of the fire that is still burning is in the park and it burned again up a very steep drainage with some heavier fuel. so it's going to take some time for crew to get in there on the ground and actually construct some fire line on the ground.200 firefighters are working on this.. with four airtankers and two helicopters.the air resources are a big part of containing the fire early on... but officials tell us the people on the ground are really what nips it at the root.they say.. fortunately.. the fire is behaving more calmly. and the weather is also cooperating.right now the fire behavior has diminished quite a bit because the weather is starting to cool down, the relative humidity is comin up ( robin ) that was hermela aregawi reporting. this morning there is no word on when firefighters expect to have that fire fully contained.

( robin ) all evacuations have been lifted in connection to the carder fire near kelseyville. we first told you about this fire saturday on kron 4 news. these are some pictures showing what it looked like. you can see all of the smoke. in total 57 acres burned. evacuations had been issued on saturday but again all of those have been lifted. that fire is about 80% contained. ( robin ) and in mariposa county-- yosemite west and anderson valley areas are under mandatory evacuations...a s the ferguson fire continues to grow. that fire has burned more than 32-thousand acres and is just 6 percent contained. nearly 3- thousand firefighters are battling this fire. crews are cutting fire breaks to protect nearby communities. < "being up there, it's very, very steep terrain. it's not very accessible. to get to there the crews have to take avery long trip to get around and into that area." kelly peck / red cross shelter supervisor: "this is our home and were taking care of our own.">( robin ) the fire is expected to

( robin ) in the north bay... the pathway home in yountville will not reopen. in march... a former client shot and killed three women inside the mental health facility... and then took his own life. since then... veterans in the pathway program have been referred to other places across the bay area... including in napa and martinez. the pathway home opened in 2008... and will formally end its lease with the veterans home of california on august 31st. story we are following this morning... one person is dead following an hours-long hostage situation at a trader joe's. it happened on saturday and this morning we are learning more about the victim and what lead up to the standoff. kim hutcherson has the details. an armed man terrorized a trader joe's saturday afternoon -- leaving one person dead.chief michel moore / lapd: "a young woman was shot and killed and unfortunately were unable to revive her."the victim, identified by her brother as melyda corado, had worked at trader joe's for about four years.authorities say the suspect was fleeing the scene of a seperate shooting incident when the ordeal began. chief michel moore / lapd: "he shot his grandmother multiple times. in the course of that attack, a young woman was also injured and he forcibly took her from that residence and drug her to a vehicle and then left the scene."officers

early saturday morning. it happened on the 37-hundred block of sunset lane. police found the 55-year-old victim on the ground. he was airlifted to a hospital where he died. a 31-year- old man was taken into custody but police have not released any information about that man. they have also not said what led up to that fight. ( robin ) some people in san ramon aren't happy about plans to build a doggy day care service in their community. opponents say camp bow wow will disrupt traffic on alcosta boulevard... and potentially cause sanitation issues. the potential business could house up to 125 dogs at a time. some neighbors believe this will bring additional noise and parking issues to their community. meeting to discuss the issues is scheduled for august 16th. ( robin ) one of the darkest days in berkeley's history was remembered as the community joined togetehr for the unveiling of a memorial plaque. it honors the six students who died three years ago when a balcony collapsed. kron four's philippe djegal was at the ceremony. (philippe)nats- "we know that the families will grieve all their lives for their children and so we pray for them on this day." it was an emotional morning for the families of the young people who did not survive the deadly 20-15 balcony collapse in berkeley.jesse arreguin/mayor- "the balcony collapse is one of the saddest days in the history of our city." on saturday... at martin luther king junior civic park... the city unveiled a memorial plaque honoring the six irish and irsh american students... who fell 50 feet and died three years ago when a balacony crumbled during a birthday party. some of the victims' families traveled from overseas to

divers have found the boat at the bottom of the lake. it went down thurday night in the middle of a thunderstorm. investigators say none of the 17 people killed were wearing life jackets. nine of the people killed were members of a single family. tia coleman lost her husband, three children, and five other members of her family. ( james ) also in the east bay... a police chase turns deadly on highway 24 in orinda. the chase started when the driver refused to stop during a routine traffic stop on saturday. it ended when the driver flipped over on the highway and the car burst into flames. there were two people inside the car when it flipped. one of them died. the other is in the hospital this morning. it is not clear why the people in the car were trying to get away from police. ( james ) five fisherman had to be rescued after being stranded by a rising tide in marin county. the four men and one woman were stranded off the coast just south of muir beach over the weekend.

hour outside of des moines. officials say tibbets went out for a jog and never returned home. hundreds of volunteers came out to help in the search. mollie's aunt says she knew something was wrong when mollie didn't show up for work the next day. the family remains hopeful that she will be found. in the special counsel's russia probe is set to begin later this week. a hearing today will determine what evidence will be allowed at trial for president trump's former campaign chairman paul manafort. jury selection is expected to begin wednesday. with the trial starting at the end of the week. manafort faces 25 criminal charges in two separate cases in virginia and washington d-c. he faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted of all counts. ( james ) it happened at the macarthur station in oakland. the attacker is still on the loose. kron4's lydia pantazas is live at bart with more. ( darya ) in the east bay... one person is dead after getting into a fight early saturday morning. it happened on the 37-hundred block of sunset lane. police found the 55-year-old victim on the ground. he was airlifted to a hospital where he died. a 31-year- old man was taken into custody but police have not released any information about that man. they have not said what led up to that fight. ( darya ) also in the east bay... a police chase turns deadly on highway 24 in orinda. the chase started when the driver refused to stop during a routine traffic stop on saturday. it ended when the driver flipped over on the highway and the car burst into flames. there were two people inside the car when it flipped. one of them died. the other is in the hospital this morning. it is not clear why the people in the car were trying to get away from police. ( james ) five fisherman had to be rescued after being stranded by a rising tide in marin county. the four men
