morning... the man police say is responsible for stabbing and killing an 18 year old at a bart station in oakland... is now incustody. bart police tracked down john cowell...and arrested him after receiving an anonymous tip from a bart rider... kron 4's ali reid has the details on the arrest. bart police say the suspect was arrested without incident on a bart train.the train was heading to antioch ... it all went down at the pleasant hill station.pkg27 year old

transient john lee cowell is now off the streets.he needs to be punished for what he's done to nia and her sisterthe manhunt started sunday night, but it was an anonymous tip that led police to him. all i want is justice for my daughterspolice are still looking for a motive .... right now there's no indication that this stabbing was racially motivated, but police have not ruled it out. surveillance footage and witness statements indicate that cowell attacked 18 year old nia and her 26 year old sister lahtifah very quickly and without provocation. nia passed away at the scene. latifah was stabbed in the neck but is in stable condition recovering at a local hospital.i know from my sister who survived, that she said he came up behind them and started stabbing for no reason whatsoever.last night cowell discarded his clothes in a parking structure, which police say shows he was conscious of his guilt. and they believe they've recovered the murder weapon, which was found at a nearby construction

site.we plan to interview him along with the da's office and book him in the alameda county jailhundreds of people rallied outside the macarthur bart station monday evening ... before marching through the streets of oakland.it hurts right now, but i need to be strong for my sister and her family.standupunderstandably there are a lot of people that want to help the wilson family. there are fundraising pages out there but police say none of them are real.they're working with the family to start one.reporting live from oakland ... ali reid ... kron 4 news. ( robin ) and this morning we are learning more about the victim... 18-year-old nia wilson. she was born and raised in oakland. she attened oakland high school and later transfered to dewey academy high school.. dewey academy is a small campus with 275 students. prinicpal darrell ross says just about everyone

interacted with nia wilson on regular daily basis... and so did he. ( robin ) the superintendent of the oakland unified school district released a statement saying the district is heartnroken by the senseless attack. ( robin ) there have been two other bart-related homicides in the past five days. police were investigating deaths from assaults that occurred at the bay fair and pleasant hill bart stations as well. kron 4 's michelle kingston has the details. (mk)three homicides in five days at bart stations in the bay area.they are all very high priority and we are following all the leads until we are able to exhaust those leads and our goal is really to bring justice to the families who have lost their loved onespolice arrested one man they say got into an altercation with 51 year old gerald bisbee at the pleasant hill station last wednesday. bisbee suffered a lip and knee injury .. went to the hospital .. was released and then found dead in his home on friday -- police say the autopsy shows

he died from an infection from the cut on his knee.his mother tells us he was her baby boy ... he was on his way to work and now he's gone.and early saturday morning ... bart police say a man was injured on the platform of the bay fair station.police say video shows the victim -- 47 year old don stevens -- struck in the head and then falling to the cement ground ... later dying in the hospital.the suspect caught on camera -- a man police say was wearing a white tshirt and a green jacket with dreadlocks in a ponytail and a scruffy beard. we need the publics help to identify this individual. we do not have this individual identified.michelle kingston, mkingstonnewspolice arrested 20 year old abdul bey for the attack that ultimately killed gerald bisbee here in pleasant hill.the man responsible for the death of don stevens is still on the loose.if you have any information on any of these attacks you're asked to contact bart police immediately. ( robin ) happening now... police are investigating an overnight shooting in oakland. it happened on the 65- hundred block of eastlawn street. this is a pictrure from the scene. the shooting happened around 11:00 last night. at least one person was injured. there is no word this morning on a possible arrest. ( robin ) a homeless man suspected of starting a series of fires along a sonoma county trail last month pleaded not guilty. investigators say 51-year-old domingo bautista may have been responsible for four suspicious fires along the west county trail.

they add...he also may be responsible for 13 small fires along the santa rosa creek trail. bautista is being held on 20-thousand dollars bail, and his next court appearance is in september. ( robin ) new body camera video has been released of the interaction between a san francisco business owner and police oficers. police were called on the man while he was standing in front of his own business. kron 4's ella sogomonian spoke with him about the new video. san francisco police are revealing a new perspective of this picture that's gone viral as police responded to a call that he was burglarizing a business that turned out to be his own...body camera footage released monday shows the encounter they say took just three minutes before they turned around and left.sot: vicktor stevens, gourmonade owner// "i just wanted to go live in case something did go down and so people can see what was taking place, and i'm glad that i did i'm not really a fan of social media but because i was able to share the little bit that i was able to people were able to see

( robin ) san francisco has become known for it's 'rainbow crew" type of retail theft... that's when a half dozen or more people enter a store and start pocketing items on display. kron 4's dan kerman takes a look at the newest burglary trend. 8 pkgsan francisco police confirm retail theft is on the uptick in in parts of north beach, fisherman's wharf and union square...and drugs stores appear to be a prime target - - - you're looking at

a video a viewer sent us of a robbery at the walgreens of columbus and bay last week. but it's not just walgreens. this is the the cvs at stockton and sutter from back in june.... people taking what they want with aparently no care in the world... and this is video of another robbery at the same store this weekend... once again, people rifling through merchandise, and sticking it in their bag before heading out the doora spokesman for cvs says we take the matter of organized retail crime seriously and we partner with law enforcement and other retailers with a goal of preventing this activity and bringing to justice those responsible for it. in 2015 and 2016 numerous similar robberies of luxury goods at high end stores were linked to a group known as the rainbow crew. police working with the d.a.'s office made arrests and 16 people were tied to 23 retail thefts and charged with

morning... the time your child spends on social media could be contributing to trouble focusing and a-d-h-d. that's according to a new study. kim hutcherson has the details, could your teen's social media habits increase their chances of developing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder..known as adhd?a study, published in the medical journal jama, shows a tentative link between teens' digital media usage, such as social networking, texting, streaming music or reading online content... and whether they were likely to develop symptoms of adhd...symptoms which include inattention, hyperactivity, restlessness or impulsivity.over two years, more than 2500 15 and 16-year- old students who initially said they didn't have any adhd symptoms completed surveys in which they reported how frequently they engaged in 14 digital media activities.on average, researchers found 10.5 percent of those who said they engaged in all of the activities later reported

( robin ) san francisco mayor london breed is looking to add one million dollars to the city's budget... to keep the most vulnerable people in stable housing. kron 4's maureen kelly has the story from an elderly care home... that's slated to get more funding. we have to make sure that we invest in preventing homelessness in the first place mayor london breed stood before a crowd of seniors living at the victorian manor residential care facility to talk about the importance of keeping places like this open. over the last 5 years.. many board and care homes like this have closed...since ssi payments aren't usually enough for places like this to keep pace with rising health care costs....and keep wages competitive for staff trying to make it in this increasing unaffordable city.we have to make sure that we keep every single bedthe extra 1 million to go into the budget will be

spread out over 2 years...adding to the 2.5 million the department of public health already pays to help cover the spending gap. the new funds will be spread between 37 board and care faciliies to help keep 350 residents ...some who suffer from mental issues like dementia with a roof over their heads.some of these people suffer from serious behavioral health and medical issues many have history of homelessness and we know the best solution is to prevent homelessness in the first place resident ilina moreno gave the mayor one of her paintings. she helps run the art program here for the other seniors. she says places like victorian manor are crucial for seniors and those with disabilities.after my stroke i became paralyzed i cannot meet my basic social and daily needs i need constant assistancethis budget ammendment will be presented at tuesday's board of supervisors meeting....it's part of 47 million in additional funding allocated for homelessness related issues.maureen kelly kron4 news.

taken the carpool lane because i have a carpool sticker it the yellow sticker so but it expired. i bought this car used and when the guy i asked him about that he said it was still good get right behind that car up there this driver drove up alone.. have you ever had a license? ( robin ) we now know the name of the man who killed a 10-year-old and 18-year-old in a shooting rampage in toronto. 13 others were hurt. family members say 29-year old faisal hussain fought a long battle with psychosis and depression. witness say he zig-zagged down the street... firing at random at people outside and in restaurants. hussain died in an exchange of gunfire with police. authorities are investigating his motive. ( robin ) sacramento police are investigating what led to one of their officers hitting a 16-year-old boy with his suv. police say officers tried to stop the

teen for a bicycle code violation but he ran away. police say the patrol s-u- v... hit the 16-year-old and ended up in the front yard of a home in the neighborhood. don't see everyday... these are photos of a mountain lion napping behind a couch inside a home. homeowner lauren taylor from oregon says the mountain lion was drinking from a pond near her property. that is when it entered the home through the back door. taylor said the mountain

lion panicked and hid behind the couch when someone screamed. it took six- hours to get the animal outside. in the meantime it was cuddling with a pillow. didn't text him back. ( darya ) family members say they've seen some misinformation on this case. they say tibbetts was not jogging in a cornfield when she disappeared. ( darya ) a former groundskeeper has taken the stand in a san francisco courtroom... testifying against monsanto. he says the maker of weed-killer "roundup" caused his cancer. dewayne johnson worked for the benecia unified school district. he says he used roundup on a regular basis. but he started to worry when he developed a rash on his

body. johnson was later diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and his body is covered with lesions. he said he became depressed as his symptoms worsened and he refused to be seen in public. he says roundup should come with a warning label. johnson's case is the first of hundreds against monsanto. his case was allowed to go first because his doctors say he doesn't have long to live. ( james ) a homeless man accused of starting a series of fires along a sonoma county trail last month... has pleaded not guilty. investigators say 51-year-old domingo bautista is responsible for four suspicious fires along the west county trail. and they say he may also be responsible for 13 small fires set along the santa rosa creek trail. bautista is being held on 20-thousand dollars bail. his next court appearance is in september. ( james ) happening today... san francisco is expected to join seattle in outlawing plastic straws. the board of supervisors will take up the issue today.

( james ) happening now... the ferguson fire is growing in size. the fire is burning just west of yosemite national park... in mariposa county. fire officials say the steep and rugged terrain is making it hard for them to gain containment. so far... the fire has burned more than 38-thousand acres and is just 16-percent contained. more than 3-thousand firefighters are on the fire lines... trying to keep it from spreading. 13 areas are under evacuation orders... but no homes have been destroyed.

( darya ) san francisco has become known for it's 'rainbow crew" type of retail theft. that's when a half dozen or more people enter a store and start pocketing items on display.( james ) kron 4's dan kerman takes a look at the newest burglary trend. san francisco police confirm retail theft is on the uptick in in parts of north beach, fisherman's wharf and union square...and drugs stores appear to be a prime target - - - you're looking at a video a viewer sent us of a robbery at the walgreens of columbus and bay last week. but it's not just walgreens. this is the the cvs at stockton and sutter from back in june.... people taking what they want with aparently no care in the world... and this is video of another robbery at the same store this weekend... once again, people rifling through merchandise, and sticking it in their bag before heading out the doora spokesman for cvs says we take the matter of organized retail crime seriously and we partner with law enforcement and other retailers with a goal of preventing this activity and

motivated, but police have not ruled it out. surveillance footage and witness statements indicate that cowell attacked 18 year old nia and her 26 year old sister lahtifah very quickly and without provocation. nia passed away at the scene. latifah was stabbed in the neck but is in stable condition recovering at a local hospital.

( darya ) the superintendent of the oakland unified school district released a statement saying the district is heartbroken by the senseless attack. ( james ) nia wilson's murder is the third bart- related homicide in less than a week. police are also investigating deadly assaults that happened at the bay fair and pleasant hill stations. police arrested 20-year abdul bey after he got into a fight with 51-year old gerald bisbee at the pleasant hill station last wednesday. bisbee was hospitalized with lip and knee

injuries. but he died on friday after he was released... from an infected wound. and early saturday morning at the bay fair station... 47-year-old don stevens fell to the ground after being hit in the head. the attacker was caught on surveillance video... but police need help identifying him. something you don't see everyday... these are photos of a mountain lion napping behind a couch inside a home. homeowner lauren taylor from oregon says the mountain lion was drinking from a pond near her property. that is when it entered the home through the back door. taylor said the mountain lion panicked and hid behind the couch when someone screamed. it took six-
