heroic firefighters and people who did not evacute... have been killed in the fires.(grant) good evening -- i'm grant lodes.(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. governor brown declared a state of emergency in lake, mendocino, and napa counties. one of the most devastating wildfires in the state is burning in shasta and trinity counties. this is a map of where the fire is located. you can see it's burning in shasta, whiskeyton, and french gulch... and inching closer to redding. nick watt is live in redding tonight with the latest on how firefighters are containing the flames. nick?

(grant) and two wildfires are burning in lake and mendocino counties tonight. this is a map showing where the mendocino complex fires are burning near lakeport and upper lake. so far the fires have burned more than 55- thousand acres and is just 10-percent contained. kron 4's terisa estacio is live in lakeport. terisa how is it looking out there tonight?

gaining ground on the steele fire burning in napa county. the fire is now 75-percent contained... and it has burned 135 acres. eight structures have been destroyed. there are evacuations in place for pleasure cove and berryessa. (vicki) we are also tracking the ferguson fire burning near yosemite. the ferguson fire has burned more 56-thousand acres. containment is at 30 percent. yosemite valley was evacuated as a precaution. it won't reopen until this friday. (vicki) evacuated or chased from their homes by a wildfire, many residents find themselves lacking even the most basic necessities, like toiletries, infant formula and sun block.(2-shot/grant) those are among the items being donated in response to a plea for help bya south bay woman who is organizing a relief effort for victims of the car fire.(double box) kron fours rob fladeboe has details on that now live from san jose.

see the intense smoke rising from the fire.at one point officials say the entire hillside was on fire and dangerously close to an apartment complex.we will keep an eye on this story..and bring you any updates. (grant) an earthquake to report in the bay area... a three-point-seven magnitude quake hit near vallejo at around 3:20 this afternoon. kron-4 viewers from san rafael to petaluma to san francisco reported feeling the earthquake. no damage or injuries. (grant) and in san leandro -- the man wanted in the brutal attack at a bay fair bart station has been arrested. police say 24-year-old ja- shawn combs killed 47-year-old don stevens...punching him...his head then hitting the concrete platform. combs turned himself in and was taken into custody. the arrest means suspects have now been apprehended in connection with all three homicides that occurred on the bart system in the last week and a half. (vicki) antioch police are on the hunt for the person or persons that opened fired

on three men outside an applebees restaurant. (grant) kron 4s' dan kerman is following the deadly shooting for us. he joins us live from police headquarters in antioch. antioch police says an 18 year old was killed and a 16 and 17 year old were wounded during a shooting about 115 in the morning in the parking lot outside applebees at the hillcrest crossroads shopping centersot leslie stroud, jr./witness 12-16i just heard the guns go off, pop pop pop pop and i heard an argument police arriving on the scene found the 18 year old dead... and the 16 year old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he was taken to a local hospital. later police discovered a 17 year old, also with multiple gunshot wounds had already been taken to a hospital by friends. police says they believe the three victims were involved in a

(grant) a multi-ethnic group of family and friends were enjoying the day in berkeley... when they say they were harassed by white woman who was telling them they don't belong there. the portion of the incident captured on cellphone video has gone viral.(vicki) although police were called, no charges were filed. now one of the alleged victim's says he is ready to press charges. tonight he is speaking on camera for the first time since the incident

"look at her. she is steady trying to start some..."essex cook is showing me a cellphone video of an incident that occured over the memorial day weekend in berkeley. he says his multi-racial group of family and friends where walking on shattuck when suddenly they started getting harassed by the woman you see in the video, who berkeley police identified as 32- year-old lauren milewski. cook says when police offered him the opportunity to press charges against milewski he declined. now he says he wants to hold her accountable sot he says the confrontation started after his group, who you see in this photo, tried to step aside and let the woman walk around them

washington state says his son burned his feet on a grate near a seattle splash park. (grant) now he has a warning for other parents. a-j janavel has the story. natson these scorching summer days. . natsfamilies take their kids to splash parks to cool off.natsthe last thing they're expecting. . is having to race their child to the hospital for burn injuries. andrew sechrist/ father:"i've been through hell the last 24 hours."that's exactly what happened to andrew sechrist.he tells me he heard his son jackson crying while playing at the splash pad at the georgetown playfield on thursday.natssechrist says at first. . he thought his one year old fell down. . but that wasn't the case.andrew

sechrist/ father:"his feet were white. the skin, they had basically melted."sechrist says he realized his son walked across this grate.i tested the temperature of the grate around the same time of day the incident happened"i can't keep it here for half a second, and my one and half year-old son walked all the way across." reporter: "sechrist tells me one of his biggest concerns is with kids playing right here at the water park, they're just a few feet away from where this grate is located.""it's hard to see him go through that." sechrist says his son had to go to two different hospitals. "the nurses were looking at his feet, and they were going, oh my god."the little boy also had to spend the night there and now has to wear these bandages for the next couple weeks.only about 24 hours after this traumatic incident. . sechrist tells me he's sharing his story for a reason. "hopefully someone from the city of seattle knows that it happened and they can fix it."

(vicki) (vicki) and -- wildfires continue to tear through neighborhoods in northern california. how a bay area shelter is stepping up to help animal displaced by the carr animal displaced by the carr fire. i'm april kennedy and i'm an arborist with pg&e in the sierras. animal displaced by the carr fire. since the onset of the drought, more than 129 million trees have died in california. pg&e prunes and removes over a million trees every year to ensure that hazardous trees can't impact power lines. and since the onset of the drought we've doubled our efforts. i grew up in the forests out in this area and honestly it's heartbreaking to see all these trees dying. what guides me is ensuring that the public is going to be safer and that these forests can be sustained and enjoyed by the community in the future. (grant) a bay area shelter is stepping up to help an animal rescue organization displaced by the carr fire. (vicki) walnut creek's animal rescue foundation has already taken in close to 40 dogs and cats. kron4's maureen kelly reports the center is preparing for over 100 more to arrive tonight. (nats)these are just some of the 14 dogs.....and 24 cats that were taken in by the animal rescue foundation..ot herwise know as arf. last week the pups and kitties had been waiting to be adopted at the

haven shelter south of redding.....but as the carr fire erupted....that shelter started to become overwhelmed with strays fleeing the flames. which is why arf stepped in to help....haven humane is actually had a pool of over 500 animals since thursday and so in order to alleviate the burden on their efforts, we are pulling their existing population and trying to get them rehomed like this little one rain, who is 10 months old she is a little broken arm but she's gonna feel quite nicely. she loves children and she's looking for a new forever homeand reign is about to get a lot more company. these photos show the crates filled with over 100 more dogs and cats getting ready to be transported to walnut creek. they are due to arrive sometime tonight.it didn't help that the redding shelter itself decided to evacuate since they were just a few blocks outside the

mandatory evacuation area. these pets who arrived last week....could be ready for adoption as soon as wednesday after they've been medically cleared....the folks at arf say, if you aren't ready for the commitment that comes with adoption, they are always looking for volunteers to foster animals. will surprise supply you with everything you need if it's a cat litter if it's got medical problems medicine, and as a foster you're providing a temporary house shelter for an animal giving it a little increased socialization, that's until the dog or cat is old enough or well enough to be ready to be placed in it's forever home....maureen kelly kron4 news (vicki) coming up -- a wrongful death lawsuit has has filed on behalf of some of the victims in the tragic duck boat accident in branson missouri. what the families' lawyers are demanding... after the break (grant) plus -- how t-s-a will be able to track people ánotá suspected of a crime at the airport. you could save energy by living off the grid. completely. or... just set the washing machine to cold. do your thing.

from t-s-a: american citizens ánotá suspected of a crime are being tracked. the previously undisclosed program first reported by the boston globe - is known as quiet skies. according to a t-s-a official, the program has existed in some form since 2010. officials use information from the intelligence community to decide who federal air marshals should target. the marshal's then observe the people for behavioral cues that have been previously associated with those of terrorists. the goal of the program is to thwart any potential threats.

entertainment seeks at least 100-million dollars in damages. (grant) as wildfires rage in california... we are now getting help from people... and technology... from across the country. ken wayne is in the newsroom with what we're working on for the kron4 news at six. (ken) thank you grant. scientists from the n-o-a-a in maryland are using high tech tools to watch the wildfires. they are using weather statellite images to help crews locate hotspots-- and track smoke as the fires spread. and it's all in an effort to help firefighters-- and save lives. we'll show you how the technology is able to see dangerous conditions that the crews cannot see on the ground. plus-- we continue to track the fire burning in southern california-- that has now spread to an apartment complex near santa clarita. we have those stories and more coming up on kron4 news at 6. grant and vicki now back to you in the studio. (ken) new at six tonight.... a woman found dead at a bart station over the weekend was identified by alameda county officials today. police say jessica st. louis of berkeley was recently released from santa rita jail before she was found early saturday morning at the dublin bart station. officials say her medical exam showed no signs of homicide or assault. they now suspect her death to be a drug overdose. the 26-year-old had a bump on her head, but no other signs of foul play. a toxicology report is still pending. (ken) walnut creek's animal rescue foundation is stepping up to help an animal shelter displaced by the carr fire. (grant) the local organization has already taken in close to 40 dogs and cats. kron4's maureen kelly reports the center is preparing for over 100 more to arrive tonight.

pkg(nats)these are just some of the 14 dogs.....and 24 cats that were taken in by the animal rescue foundation..ot herwise know as arf. last week the pups and kitties had been waiting to be adopted at the haven shelter south of redding.....but as the carr fire erupted....that shelter started to become overwhelmed with strays fleeing the flames. they've already taken in 500 pets since thursday which is why arf stepped in to help.... animals get scared and take off and we want to keep those animals in that area so that families of lost them can relocate them very readily, or if as lead agency with our partners are pulling just the shelter population at this time, however should those animals that need homes will support the system that way as welland reign is about to get a lot more company.that includes this 10 month old little sweetie named reign. who's about to get a lot more company.over 100 more dogs and cats getting ready to be transported to walnut creek. they are due to arrive sometime tonight.the redding shelter is in a temporary home....since they were just a few blocks outside the mandatory evacuation area and felt it prudent to move since so many souls depend on them. these pets who arrived last week....could be ready for adoption as soon as wednesday after they've been medically cleared....the folks at arf say, if you aren't ready for
