(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the crash was on an aeromexico flight this afternoon. take a look at more images of the scene. 97 passengers were on board... and four crew members. officials say 37 people suffered only slight injuries when the plane crashed as it was taking off in northern mexico. and again... nobody was killed in the crash. (grant) this is a map of where it happened. the flight was headed to mexico city from durango... which is shaded orange on the map. the crash was close to the guadalupe victoria international airport. durango is more than 550 miles northwest of mexico city. we will continue to track the latest developments and bring you information as it comes into kron4. it comes into kron4. (grant) here's a look at where the so-called mendocino complex fires are burning near clearlake. you can see the ranch fire is burning to the north near upper lake... and the river fire is burning near lakeport. and tonight... more than 12-thousand structures are in danger. (grant) the monstrous carr fire-- continues to leave a path of destruction in california's shasta county. this is a map showing the burn zone...and you can how it's roared ito parts of northern and western redding.(vicki) so far-- more than 800 homes have been destroyed. nick watt is live in redding tonight with the latest on the firefighting efforts. nick? california fire officials say they are making progress as they battle several blazes burning in northern california and that firefighters are focused on saving lives and homes.battalion chief john messina said tuesday fire crews slowed the spread of one of the blazes into towns near clear lake, including lakeport, a city of 5,000. he says the fire instead spread into the mendocino national

forest.messina says fire crews focused their efforts on saving lives and homes and that's why only 10 houses have been destroyed by two massive fires straddling mendocino and lake counties. no injuries have been reported.but he told a community meeting in lake county that people should remain vigilant because fires can easily jump containment lines.the impoverished county about 110 miles (180 kilometers) northwest of sacramento has been hit by several wildfires since 2015, when a wildfire destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least four people. california officials say fire crews have made some gains against twin wildfires that are threatening several lakeside towns.the state's department of forestry and fire protection said tuesday that firefighters increased containment from 5 to 10 percent of the two fires straddling mendocino and lake counties in northern california.the wildfires have destroyed seven homes and have burned 116 square miles (300 square kilometers) of rural land.officials on monday ordered residents of two towns near clear lake to evacuate. the notice was for the towns of kelseyville and finley and brought the number of people affected by those fires to about 18,000.18,000.

(vicki) now to the ferguson fire which has forced yosemite valley to close for more than a week. it has grown to more than 57 thousand acres and is 33 percent contained tonight. the fire in mariposa county has been burning for about two and a half weeks now. one building has been destroyed... but no homes have burned. two firefighters were killed in this fire. and we are just learning that yosemite valley will remain closed to visitors through sunday... due to the unhealthy smoke conditions and the firefighting efforts. burning napa county is now 90- percent contained. most people have been allowed to return home... but not before this fire destroyed 8 structures... and burned 135 acres. this fire started late in the day saturday... off steele canyon road just south of lake berryessa. but the good news is... firefighters say they are mostly mopping up right now. sot dave sibia/attacked on bart 00-08just after thanksgiving last year, 61 year old dave sibia was riding bart from fremont to el cerrito... as the train pulled into the fruitvale bart station, he was attacked.sot the suspect did not get his iphone, but sibia was left with an injured wrist and neck, injuries he says that prevent him from doing his job, driving an uber... now he's suing bart for negligence sot stanley goff/sibia's attorney 50-58this lawsuit is the latest in a series of suits filed against the transit agency by people either attacked or robbed or both.sotbart says it hasn't seen the lawsuit but says it's taken steps to curb robberies and assaults. bart says it has increased police presence, it's using surveillance from more than 4,000 working cameras to solve crime and make arrests. and t's hired 27 new police officers reducing open positions to 25.sot

(grant) just in to the kron4 newsroom... a federal judge has issued a restraining order to stop the release of blueprints...used to make 3-d printed guns. the blueprints were supposed to be available to download online starting tomorrow... but that plan is on hold for now. earlier today-- gun control advocates were out waring people in san francisco about the dangers of 3-d printed guns. kron four's philippe djegal reports. (philippe) outside city hall in san francisco... gun control advocates sound the alarm...jason chen/student activist- "i am terrified. the federal government has failed the youth of america again."

initially, starting august first... after the state department's decision to settle a five-year lawsuit with texas based non-profit "defense distributed..." that company was going to be legally allowed to make blueprints for 3d-printed guns available online. those who own or have access to 3d- printers would have the ability to print their own handguns or assault rifles that may not contain serial numbers... and, could potentially avoid detection at metal detectors. but tuesday, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order stopping the release of the downloadable blueprints. jason chen/student activist- "i do not want to die looking down the barrel of a plastic gun." san francisco supervisor catherine stefani (steph-uhn-ee) says she has reached out to the city attorney's office about ways to combat what she calls the "threat of 3d-printed guns" in san francisco.catherine stefani/supervisor- "3d-printed guns are untraceable, making the jobs of law enforcement much more difficult." mattie scott represents the brady campaign, and founded the organization "healing 4 our families and our nation." she lost her son to gun violence more than 20-years ago.mattie scott/activist- "now what do you thinks gonna happen when someone can download a weapon that's plastic and order it.

recorded sunday just after midnight of a traffic stop in the city of patterson that led to the arrests of these five suspects. they are allegedly connected to a violent kidnapping for ransom that occured about 6-hours earlier in the city of berkeley...berke ley police officer byron white sot berkeley police investigators say the victim decribed as a 21-year-old man from the bay area and the five suspects from south carolina made contact with each other online and agreed to meet at the knight's inn motel. at around 6:30pm is when it happenedsot patterson police department sent kron4 this photo of one their officers holding this weapon confiscated during the arrests. investigators say around 10pm the suspects contacted a friend of the victim demanding $30-thousand- dollars ransom. that is when the kidnapping victim's friend contacted berkeley police. officer white says bpd

(vicki) happening now, firefighters are on the move and resources are being stretched to the limit. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us now live from morgan hill to explain howcalfire is coping. rob?calfire is explain how calfire is coping. rob? (rob live) not a lot of activity here today because four strike teams from calfire's santa clara unit are fighting wildfires up north. but not to worry, if something happens that the skeleton crew left behind cant handle, other crews nearby will step into the void. it's called "assistance by hire," or mutual aid by contract. for every strike team dispatched to a fire and won't be going home any time soon, another crew will be

called in from a nearby jurisdiction to take it's place, says calfire'spam temmerman by phone.pam temmerman/calfire "....it's like dropping a pebble in a pond and the rings just keep going oute more and more and we call in more resources as needed...."for example, crews from morgan hill, san jose and spring valley near milpitas are handling the territory that would otherwise be the responsibility of those strike teams currently on assignment says temmerman.pam temmerman/calfire "....we hire their personnel to come in to our jurisdiction and staff our station for us, essentially their engines work just as ours do, they respond to calls just like what we do, regardless of what kind of call it is..."as we saw earlier this month on the curie and country fires, san jose firefighters are trained to fight wildfires. just as calfire crews are trained to handle structure fires and other emegencies. the problem is that with no fewer than 17 different fires burning across the state right now, even with mutual aid, resources are being stretched ever thinner.

(grant) in shasta county tonight the smallest fire evacuee returned to redding. baby isabella was one of six newborns flown to sacramento as the flames threatened dignity health mercy medical center. the carr fire is one of at least sixteen fires burning across the state tonight. more than 12=thousand firefighters are on the lines ... some of them from as far away as maine and florida. herfe's a breakdown of the three biggest. natthe explosive carr fire ha burned more than 12=hundred structures ... making it the seventh most destructive fire in state history."it looked like an atomic bomb went off. after the fact. we got a few pictures from friends, but it was a firestorm when we left." it has also claimed six lives, two of them firefighters."this is scary to us. this is something we haven't seen

(vicki) actor alan alda revealed today that he's been living with parkinson's disease for several years. the 82-year-old "mash" star said he's maintained a full, active lifestyle since being

diagnosed three and a half years ago. alda said he could see his thumb twitching when he was watching video of a recent appearance. he says he's just going public now because he wants to get ahead of the story and doesn't want it cast in a sad light. parkinson's disease is a disorder of the nervous system that primarily affects a patient's movement.(grant) joining us now to talk about parkinson's disease...and it's treatment... is doctor jill ostrem-- is doctor jill ostrem-- from u-c-s-f. she is an expert in deep- brain stimulation treatment for parkinson's disease. actor alan alda says he has parkinson's disease.appearing tuesday on "cbs this morning," the former "m.a.s.h." star said he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder three and a half years ago. alda says he expects a tabloid will soon publish a story about his diagnosis.the 82-year-old says he's not angry and considers it a

(vicki) we've been honoring outstanding bay area teachers... and tonight - it's dance teacher nicole klaymoon. nicole works with o-d-c in san francisco.. it's a contemporary dance and arts organization that's been in san francisco since 1976.part of nicole's role - she leads the hip hop dance crew. it's made up of teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 16. most of them -- dancing on scholarship. this is one of their recent performances. nicole says her work goes way beyond dancing... she wants the kids to learn how to express themselves, and to gain confidence and leadership skills. she says she focuses on helping them to 'find their voice.'... "very concept oriented. i like to really frame each street dance tradition in history. historical context. and then

20 missing people thought missing from the burn area have been safely located. reporter nick watt is live in redding tonight with the latest on the firefighting efforts. nick? california fire officials say they are making progress as they battle several blazes burning in northern california and that firefighters are focused on saving lives and homes.battalion chief john messina said tuesday fire crews slowed the spread of one of the blazes into towns near clear lake, including lakeport, a city of 5,000. he says the fire instead spread into the mendocino national forest.messina says fire crews focused their efforts on saving lives and homes and that's why only 10 houses have been destroyed by two massive fires straddling mendocino and lake counties. no injuries have been reported.but he told
