( marty )new evacuation orders are in effect as the mendocino complex fire continues to grow. people in the potter valley community have been told to evacuate immediately.meantime -- here are the latest numbers: the mendocino complex fire is actually 2 fires burning in lake and mendocino counties. they are the ranch fire which has grown to more than 115-thousand acres.it's 28 percent contained. the river fire -- has burned more than 42-thousand acres...and is 50 percent contained. together the fires have

destroyed 41 homes... about 92-hundred buildings are threatened. ( marty )people who live in lakeport are starting to return home.but the community remains a ghost town. after the mendocino complex fires forced them to evacuate last saturday. some residents are keeping their vehicles packed in case they are again ordered to evacuate. poor air quality remains an issue in lakeport. ( marty ) governor brown is scheduled to visit the fire scene in shasta county today. meantime, crews are still working to get the deadly carr fire under control. that fire is causing evacuations and several road closures. cal fire says the fire has burned over 133 thousand acres. it is 39-percent contained. the blaze has killed six people. 15 thousand people have been evacuated and more than a thousand homes have been destroyed. ( marty ) and yosemite valley remains closed through sunday.. as the ferguson fire keeps growing. the park was supposed to reopen friday.

but, smokey conditions remain a health problem. the ferguson fire has burned more than 77-thousand acres and it's 41 percent contained. ( marty )the smoke from all the wildfires has been an issue in the bay area. it's especially noticeable in the east bay. kron 4's ella sogomonian reports an air quality advisory is in effect through the weekend. an air quality advisory is in effect for the bay area the entire weekend.the air quality management district issued the advisory because northerly winds are blowing smoke down from the mendocino complex along with other fires....a light brown haze that could be seen in the east bay.sot: kaylin neisininger, walnut creek resident// "this morning it was pretty normal and then it got pretty hazy and then it's cleard up later in the afternoon."the air quality management district warns if you smell smoke or have a hard time breathing...stay indoors...people out here say it's no big deal and instead say are concerned with the safety of the people in the fire zone.sot: seandor nemeth, hiker// "two three days indoors i mean you can just watch netflix or starwars marvel whatever you like but i really hope the people who are actually in the fires right now i hope theyre okay give them food shelter water to drink because my family almost had a tragic incident like that once close, didnt happen but i want to make sure

d-m-v offices will be open for saturday services. four locations are here in the bay area. kron 4's sara stinson joins us live from daly city this morning. sara it's all about trying to handle those long lines. one hour until the dmv opens for the first time on saturday and right now there is about the same number of people in line as there was yesterday at this time. this is just one of 60 locations that will now be open on saturdays...people i spoke with are hoping this will alleviate the long lines. every person who has visited the d-m-v has a similar experience. one woman even told me she once waited five hours. the agency blames the long lines on the new federal mandated security upgrades on driver licenses and identification cards. d-m-v officials hope the new extended hours alleivate the long lines. one man in line is hopeful this will. take sot: the dmv opens in one hour. the d-m-v will remain closed on sundays.

dealing with increased violence at their stations. drug use continues to be an issue as well. kron 4's charles clifford talked to riders about the problem. this is video given to kron 4 that shows a man on a bart train smoking what appears to be some sort of pipe. it's unclear if he just smoing tobacco or some sort of drug. whatever he has, the people around him are clearly bothered. the video was apparently recorded this past thursday. we don't know what happened after the video stops. on friday, we reached out to bart for comment but they declined to be interviewed for this story.this incident comes just a few weeks after multiple bart riders told kron 4 that they found hyerermic needles on bart. this woman actually sat on a needle and says it pierced her skin.on friday afternoon, we spoke to bart riders in san bruno who say that for the most part riding bart is uneventfull but bad behavior isn't unheard of. sotevery once in awhile when i board in the morning someone will be sleeping here. other than that i don't see to many bad things going on.sot

shooting in palo alto. it happened last night near the safeway at the midtown shopping center. no one was hurt ... but police chased the suspect for some time then lost the driver on highway 101. the investigation is on going. ( marty )in the north bay... police have arrested a man in sonoma county for lighting an explosive device under a deputy's car. the deputy had his car parked in a safeway parking lot in guerneville ... while he was inside getting lunch. he heard an explosion and ran outside ... where people pointed to a man running away. the off-duty officer caught and arrested him. witnesses say they saw the man throwing something under the car just before it exploded. a safeway employee had minor injuries, and was able to return to work. police have not yet identified the suspect. cyclist was a spokesman for the city of pleasant hill. officials say he was hit by a big rig in lafayette. the crash happened thursday night on reliez valley road near withers avenue. this is a very narrow roadway... and there's no designated bike lane. it isn't clear which direction the big rig -- or nelis --- was heading. police were able to track down the truck and the driver involved. the investigation is still ongoing. funeral services for nellis are coming up... we're getting an inside look into a bay area "fire weather lab" we'll show you how researchers are watching trends in this year's fire season. aggressive yellow.

phyiscal structure is far from endless. i timed myself as i circled the home. according to my stopwatch only took 42 seconds to walk around the entire housethe house might be little but it's sitting on a 10-thousand square foot lot in a very sought after area. i spoke to a local economist who says in the real estate world a property like this one is referred to as a scraper meeting that as soon as this deal closes escrow it's more than likely but that the new owners will have a bulldozer come in and demolish this property so they can build a new one no matter what they end up paying for the old one that's 10,000 ft.2 in los gatos it's one of the most exclusive markets in the bay area so paying 1.4 for land if you're going to build a $3 million house it might make some senseit's a small sized example of a big issue here in the bay area....as the demand of a growing local economy with many high paid workers runs up against the short supply of homes for sale.... and the houses that people might normally sell they're gonna sit sit on it. we're seeing affordability fatigue. where it's making it difficult for someone who might want to trade up to that next house to do so, and if they can't do you sell they're gonna stay put and not sell their house

morning ... a dead bird in the east bay has tested positive for the west nile virus. contra coast county officials say the bird was found in brentwood ... and that mosquitoes from discovery bay have also tested positive for west nile virus. officials urge everyone to take precautions by using mosquito repellents. they say you should avoid the outdoors when mosquitoes are around ... that's typically at dawn or dusk. and you should also pump out any standing water to prevent mosquitos ( marty ) happening today ... bart will be making some repairs to its tracks... and that means therewill be some closures in the east bay this weekend. the construction work will be done between the 19th street and west oakland stations. it will happen over several weekends during august and september. including labor day weekend.

( marty ) the t-s-a could ástop screening at more than 150 airports. and that could cause even longer lines at bay area airports. right now... the t-s-a screens passengers at nearly 440 airports nationwide. but the agency is considering ending security screenings at small and medium-sized airports that operate commercial flights with no more than 60 passengers. the t-s-a says they've been looking into this idea since 2011. under the proposal... passengers and luggage arriving from smaller airports would still be screened before getting on connecting flights at major airports. that would mean passangers would have to get into screening lines at airports like s-f-o, which would add to the already very long lines. health this morning ... a dead bird in the east bay has tested positive for the west nile virus. contra coast county officials say the bird was found in brentwood ... and that mosquitoes from discovery bay have also tested positive for west nile virus. officials urge everyone to take precautions by using mosquito repellents. they say you should avoid the outdoors when mosquitoes are around ... that's typically at dawn or dusk. and you should also pump out any standing water to prevent mosquitos from breeding. are searching for this man ... 55-year-old terrance dixon. he's wanted for killing a 64-year-old man ... and police consider him armed an dangerous. kron four's philippe djegal has more. rest in peace michael... you will be missed. those sentiments, accompanied by flowers outside his house... sum up the way family, friends and neighbors feel about 64-year-old michael downie.neighbor/no name or face- "i have seen him around, yes, just walking his dog or just sweeping outside his house. a very friendly. didn't seem much of a threat. just your average guy." people who live on pine creek way in concord were hesitant to show their faces on-camera... because downie's alleged killer is still out there. downie was found dead in his home a week ago after his friend's discovered his body during a welfare check. concord police have named 55-year-old terrance dixon as the lone suspect... there's a warrant out for his arrest.summer galer/cpd- "we are considering him armed and dangerous, and we're asking the community that if you know where he is, or you see him to not approach him, and contact law enforcement immediately."
