least 2 others wounded.the chp says it happened just before 2:30 am on the eastbound bay bridge just west of treasure island.police say the driver of a silver sedan or small suv opened fire on the driver of a black mitsubishi suv, killing the driver and wounding 2 passengers. the mitsubishi suv then collided with a honda as the suspsect's vehicle sped off sot officer pedro santiago/chp 34-39that's all we have right now, a silver sedan or small suvit turns out there was also a porsche that was struck by gunfire, though authorities will not say if the occupants of that vehicle were injured. they also won't say if there was an exchange of gunfire between any of the vehicles. sotwe dont know if this is a targeted attack, this is an ongoing investigation.for drivers uninvolved in the shooting, it was a very slow morning, as all or some of the eastbound

(grant) a big story we are following tonight... four people from the bay area died when a plane crashed in southern california. it went down yesterday... as the dual engine plane was headed to john wayne airport. it crashed in santa ana... nose-diving into the busy south coast shopping plaza parking lot. all five people aboard the plane died in the crash. no one on the ground was hurt. (grant) of the five people killed, three worked for the same danville real estate office. and as kron4's maureen kelly reports... the victims include a married couple... and a mother and son. where devastated by the loss our whole organization is grieving were thinking primarily of the family and the kids and those were left behindit's a day of mourning here at the pacific union real estate office.where three of the victims worked.....62 year old floria hakimi, floria had dedicated her life to the service of others, continuing

police are searching for the man who stabbed two people on a bart train at the macarthur station in oakland on friday. the suspect is identified as 27-year-old soloman espinosa. police say he is a homeless man who lives in oakland. one of the victims was stabbed in the face.. the other was stabbed in the arm. both victims have been released from the hospital. a box cutter was found at the scene. this attack comes at the heels of the deadly stabbing of 18-year-old nia wilson.. and now the community is questioning the safety of the transit system. mandatory emergency staffing mode. as kron4's haaziq madyun reports... it's part of a proposed bart safety and security plan...that was announced today bart police are now in emergency staffing mode. now there will be more officers patrolling on bart trains. the increased police presence is a part bart general manager's proposed safety and security plan says the transit agency spokesperson alicia trostsot sot bart deputy chief lance haight explains why trains and stations in oakland and san francisco are key areas of focus during the emergency staffing periodsot he says every available officer will be taking part in the extra patrols including the commmand staffsotsome of the other features of the proposed safety and security plan includes making it harder to by pass fare gates, adding a

(grant) a new report says that lyme disease is on the rise....and not just in new england, where it first appeared..(vicki) the tick-borne illness is now being found all across the nation.. catherine heenan is here with the latest information.. (catherine) we've known the problem is getting worse - but now people in all 50 states and the district of columbia have been diagnosed with lyme.. the clinical lab "quest diagnostics' looked at the results of 6-million blood tests... california had 483 people who tested positive -- that's nearly 200 percent higher than in 2015.. lyme can cause all kinds of symptoms, including joint aches, neck stiffness, fatigue and facial palsy.. people who go undiagnosed for a long time can face even more serious problems. the state with the most cases last year -- pennsylvania - with more

(vicki) a big story tonight... the big island of hawaii is preparing for hurricane hector -- which is currently a category four storm. hector is expected to pass just south of the big island by midweek... but it will still be close enough to affect the islands. the national weather service says gusty winds, rough surf, coastal flooding and rip currents are possible. (grant) here now to talk about the hurricane and the threat on the island is chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. lawrence karnow: it began to warm today with mostly sunny skies. highs were in the 90s inland with 60s at the coast. hurricane hector is getting close to the hawaian islands as a major hurricane. the storm is expected to stay

mostly south of the big island but generate some big swells. on the satellite image you can see as high pressure starts to build back into the bay area. it will be hot during the middle of the week before cooling next weekend. highs tomorrow will be in the 80s and 90s inland with 60s at the coast. we could see some temperatures near 100 degrees midweek and then more cool fog and temperatures by friday. president trump has repeatedly stated mexico will pay for the wall. but mexican leaders say that will not happen. ( vicki ) facebook has removed four pages related to infowars and its conspiracy theorist founder, alex jones for repeated violations of its policies. this comes after facebook removed four videos from the pages last week. facebook says they violated its hate speech and bullying policies. facebook said it took the pages down quote - "for glorifying violence and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies." the page administrators are able to appeal the decision. tonight... the search for a missing three-year-old boy leads police to a remote compound in the high desert of new mexico. police rescued nearly a dozen children from that compound -- but the boy they were looking for is still missing. they also detained three women who deputies say where the mothers of the children. andrew spencer reports. practically in the middle of nowhere......a small travel trailer buried in the ground and covered with plastic. stacked tires form the outer walls of this compound, where authorities searched for three-year-old abdul-ghani wahhaj.they didn't find him, but they did find his father, siraj wahhaj, who had a warrant out of georgia related to his missing son. at the compound, police say they also found 11 starving children and three women, believed to be their mothers.sgt. jason rael, taos county sheriff's office: "no running water. no electricity. it was... they were in bad shape."the sheriff of taos county, new mexico, called it heartbreaking; he says the children looked like

(grant) san rafael (grant) san rafael police are investigating a shooting involving one of their officers. last night around 9, an officer spotted a man in the middle of verdi street with two knives. police say after talking with the man for 30 minutes... he began walking towards the officers. an officer fired non-lethal rounds at the man. police say the man

kept coming towards them, when an officer fired his gun and hit the man. he was taken to the hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. .. (grant) a mother and her two twin daughters have died in a suspicious fire. the fire erupted early yesterday morning in vallejo near i-80 and georgia street. police in the area smelled smoke coming out of a home when they saw an 11-year-old girl trying to flag down help. officers were able to pull out the girl's mother and her 15- year-old twin sisters... but they died at the scene. police say the 11-year old had minor to moderate injuries. the girl's father was out of town when the fire started. investigators are not saying why they believe this why they believe this fire is suspicious. (vicki) in the east bay... people in antioch are upset with a cemetery after they say flowers, photos and other mementos that were placed on the graves of their loved were removed and thrown into a pile like trash. people who visit the cemetery tell kron 4 that they started

to see fliers around the cemetery that said to remove items that weren't in the designated spaces. the fliers said they were getting in the way of maintaining the lawn. the cemetery is run by the archdiocese of oakland. we have reached out to them but have not heard back. (grant) police in san ramon... are still searching for 14-year-old taylor cusick who went missing last week. cusick was last seen on monday night by her mother. she was reported missing early tuesday morning. san ramon police have confirmed that taylor ran away from home... and say there is no indication of foul play. she is 5-feet 4-inches tall with dark brown hair and green eyes. (grant) in the south bay... mineta san jose international airport introduced its new facial recognition system today. this is video of another facial recognition system being tested at l-a-x. san jose is the first airport on the west coast that is committed to bio-metric entry and exit programs. the technology will be used for international flights out of san jose. bay... we now know the names of the two men...who died in a car collision with a light rail train. authorities have identified the duo as 50-year-old michael davis and 60-year-old david holt. the collision happend on july 8th... after officers say their buick regal... drove though a blocked v-t-a train crossing... near auzerais avenue in san jose. both died at the scene. no one on the train was injured. (vicki) on the peninsula... we are getting our first look at video of a rescue on cowell ranch state beach near half moon bay. c-h-p says a 10-year-old boy was playing on a cliff saturday afternoon... when he fell about 15 feet into the ocean. then his father went in after him. they were both struggling in the water when a good samaritan came to their rescue and was able to pull them out onto the beach. a c-h-p helicopter was called to the scene and air lifted all three people to safety. (vicki) a moutain lion was spotted late last night in san mateo. it happened just after 10 p-m... in the 3- thousand block of monterey

(grant) new tonight at 5... police in the central valley say they're looking for two men who attacked a sikh man and spray- painted a racist message on his truck..(vicki) it happened in the town of keyes last week - in stanislaus county... catherine heenan is here with the latest on the investigation.. (catherine) authorities are calling it a 'heinous' incident -- one that's being investigated as a hate crime... the victim was putting up campaign signs for local republicans at night...when he says two men threw sand in his eyes and began beating him... 50-year-old surjit malhi says the men were screaming "go back to your country" -- and spray-painted the same message

on his truck....also painting a neo-nazi symbol. the attackers were wearing black hoods. the victim says the turban he was wearing probably saved him from more serious injuries - since it softened the blows to his head. mahli was treated for cuts and other injuries on the scene..no arrests have been made yet.. grant and vicki? (grant) back to our continuing coverage of the wildfires burning across northern california tonight. the mendocino complex..which included the river fire and the ranch fire...is still burning in mendocino and lake counties. those fires...just 30- percent contained...and that mendocino complex is on it's way to become the largest fire in state history-- burning more than 270 acres so far. than 270 acres so far. further north in shasta and trinity counties... the carr fire near redding is 45- percent contained tonight and it has burned more than 163- thousand acres... destroying more than one-thousand homes in it's path. and yosemite national park is

closed indefinitely due to the ferguson fire. the wildfire in mariposa county has been burning now for 25 days. it is just 38- percent contained and has scorched more than 90-thousand acres.
