( robin ) drivers are parking in strange places in order to get out of the way of street sweepers. kron 4's stanley roberts explains in this edition of people behaving badly. sound of street sweeper it's street cleaning day in the excelsior district of san francisco, it's a day which happens just about everywhere in the city sound of sweeper passing by there is usually a 2 hour window for the sweeper to sweep, and during that time residents must move their cars, trucks and motorcycles so during street cleaning day you will find two things cars double parked on the opposite side of the street and cars,
4:42 am
parked on the sidewalk and in most cases they are blocking the entire sidewalk which can be annoying because you have to get into the street, and this is the city, there is a lot of crazy drivers and when i have to go into the street people almost sideswipe me. there is a rumor floating around that says you can legally park on the sidewalk during street cleaning days ((what's the longest you have to wait?)) 40 minutes, i mean not that long i asked if people complain about all the cars on the sidewalk with that happens no it's expected, you know when you live in the city this is what you expect...everybody knowswhat if i told you it is never legal to park on the sidewalk if you car is sitting past your property line the rule is simple, if you know the sweeper is coming, you can stop on the sidewalk but just for a moment, as long as you stay in the car however in the excelsior district and many other districts around san francisco it's common practice because many people have converted their garages into living quarters so now there are more cars on the street. nats: ambiance so i guess you might wonder, why doesn't the parking enforcement officer

rolling by simply rite a bunch of tickets we their responsibility is to tag all the cars parked on the street but know this if any parking enforcement officer see you parking in the sidewalk you can be issued a ticket on the fly which basically means you'll get a ticket in the mail so while you can leave your refrigerator on the sidewalk (actually you can't do that either) you are not permitted to park on the sidewalk for the record, exiting the car for any reason is considered parkingin san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news (robin) coming up on the kron four morning news... researchers discover a way that might help you get your kids to eat more veggies.
