(vicki) it's been a long time coming up the two billion dollar replacement for the old transbay terminal is nearly complete. commuters will be able to get on and off buses there starting on sunday. kron4's maureen kelly got a sneak peak at what's being called the grand central terminal of the west. this light filled and airy concourse is the grand hall of the new salesforce transit center. for the architects it's been an 11 year odyssey that will be only partially complete when commuters begin walking thru this space on their way to and from work and home. this is the san francisco project but with the exception of i believe north dakota every state in the union contributed either product or materials or assistance to us to be able to get this building put together

(vicki) other local stories we are tracking tonight... in the east bay... the community is mourning a man who was shot and killed in east oakland. 30-year-old lnefarius mcginnis -- also known as "coach phee" --- was shot and killed on july 25th. mcginnis attended oakland public schools and worked for the school district as a coach and mentor. mcginnis would have turned 31 this month. he is survived by his wife and two daughters. they're just 9 and 2 years old. so far... police has not released any information on the gunman. (vicki) steph curry used his s-c-30 showcase game to help raise money for the family of nia wilson. he

streamed the game tuesday on facebook. the fundraiser was a huge success, raising $21,025. 18-year-old nia was brutally stabbed to death at macarthur bart station on july 22nd. her sister was also stabbed, but survived the attack. john cowell has been charged in nia's death. rejected an appeal for a new trial from the attorney of brock turner, the former stanford swimmer convicted of sexual assault. turner was sentenced to 6-months in jail back in march of 2016. that sentence led to outrage and the judge in the case was recalled. turner's attorney wanted the conviction overturned and the case re-tried on the grounds that his client never intended to rape anyone... because he had his clothes on when he was found on top of an intoxicated woman. he said turner was only engaged in "sexual outercourse," or "safe sex." a panel of the state's sixth district court of appeal said in its decision today that the attorney's argument "lacks merit." 6. the sonoma county board of supervisors has approved a nearly 500- thousand dollar pilot project .. for fire cameras in the lake sonoma watershed. the system will allow officials to monitor fire and weather conditions .... and detect fires sooner. cameras will be mounted on mountain-tops and other areas with good visibility. the project is the first phase of a larger regional network of fire cameras... modeled after existing networks elsewhere in the state, including lake tahoe. (ken) there are still more than a dozen major wildfires burning across california -- and officials say conditions are not likely to improve quickly. (ken) new york city is cracking down on the number of ride- share vehicles in the city. several bills were approved by the city council today that include a one-year freeze on new licenses for ride-sharing vehicles such as uber and lyft. the council also voted to set a minimum driver wage for app-based drivers. those who support the proposal say app-based services are hurting the traditional cab industry... and are worsening traffic congestion. opponents believe app- based services provide needed transporation outside of manhattan.
