(lydia)happening today... a highly anticipated bart board meeting. the bart general manager will address a 28 million dollar plan to keep riders safe. but one group says more needs to be done with the plan, including mutual aid from cities that have bart stations. kron 4's j.r. stone has the story. bart police are currently working emergency staffing levels to keep you safe. meaning 6 days a week and 10 hours a day. it's a short term response to violent crimes that we've seen occur within the system. still though...many riders have changed their riding habits. sot if i'm coming home later i'm going to drive.the bay area council group which represents hundreds of businesses in the area believe mutual aid with city police departments should be used on a regular basis. something that is currently only used in emergency situations.that we think a mutual aid situation

could provide getting more officers into the stations and around the stations and could really show passengers on bart that bart taketheir safety seriously and also shows criminals this is not a place for you. the cost of something like that is unknown and the bart police officers association is against the idea. at least one bart board member that we talked with said she's okay with some of that idea but only for a limited time.sotstarting salaries for bart officers are much lower than most departments. a reason they have struggled to fill vacant spots.ask the riders what they want and this is some of what they'll tell you...sot i just want more officerssot i'd like to see themsot maybe more officers in the stations you know what i'm sayingsot maybe they could take care of the homeless...we see them on the trains and they make us feel unsafe unfortunately. unfortunately.unsafe unfortunately.

turner's case to rest.. upholding the former stanford swimmer's rape conviction.. and rejecting his appeal for a new trial. michele dauber/professor of law, stanfordthis is a very affirming decision by the appellate court because it decisively rejects the idea that this was in any way consensual or that the victim was in any way to blame. turner's lawyer argued there wasn't enough evidence to support his 2016 convictions which found him guilty of intent to rape an intoxicated person. the lawyer contended that fact that turner was fully clothed when he engaged in sexual conduct other than intercourse... refutes the intent to rape decision. but three justices didn't buy that. michele dauber/professor of law, stanfordbrock turner is a lying unrepentant sex predator, who never showed real remorse for sexual assault.the appellate court did a good job in rejecting all of his frivilous appeals. and in making it clear that these were serious crimes. and that they deserved to be treated seriously. as part of the conviction... turner was required to register as a sex offender.
