this morning... two teenagers are dead after a car crash in walnut creek. the c-h-p arrested the driver before releasing her to the hospital and her family. ramya ramey and her four passengers rolled of the highway 24 and i- 680 interchange... that's about a 100 foot drop and you can see the impact as they took out a fence and several bushes. this is video moments after the deadly crash. two 18-year-old men from antioch were killed. two other 18-year-old women are in the hospital with major injuries. ramey... the driver... is also in the hospital this morning. kron 4 was able to speak with her family. michelle kingston has that part of the story. kron4's michelle kingston spoke to ramey's father ramondo, who said the teens were all close friends.ramondo said his daughter had her entire life ahead of her. ramey had just graduated from high school and accepted to the university of pacific. ramondo said he's hurting for his daughter, but hurting for the victims' families the most. officers released custody of ramey to the hospital and her family because she had no prior

arrests and was not a flight risk. officers are finishing up the investigation. ( james ) another teen was killed in a separate accident on satureday morning. this accident happened on mines road in dublin. teh 19-year-old driver crashed into trees on a hillside and was trapped in teh car. other drivers stopped and pulled him from the car and drove to an area where there was cell service so they could call 9-1-1. he was taken to the hospital where he died. investigators do ánot believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in teh crash.

( james ) another big story we are following... ku klux klan flyers are showing up in the bay area. specifically in solano county. people in one neighborhood found recruitment flyers in their driveways. kron4's gayle ong was in suisun city and talked with neighbors. ths is one of the areas the flyers were found.to make

( james ) an alaska airlines plane that left san francisco had to make an emergency landing in los angeles. the flight was headed to new orleans with 136 people on board. the flight crew detected a strong odor in the cabin and diverted to los angeles. the plane landed safely and no one was hurt. it is still unclear where that smell came from. passengers were booked on

other flights. ( james ) happening today... tehre will be a ribbon cutting for the new 2 billion dollar transbay transit center in downtown san francisco. kron 4's ella sogomonian takes a look at what you need to know for this morning's commute. hard to believe this is a transit center ... with a 5 and a half acre park on the top floor with views of the city ... but -- it is!nside this one million square foot center -- there's music ... soon to be shops and restaurants -- and of course - - buses!there are 37 bus bays which ac transit says will help them increase how many people they can serve -- from the 13-thousand a day they care for today to 24-thousand an hour they'll eventually be able to accomodateduring saturday's grand opening -- people packed the transit center -- up and down the escalators .. dancing .. and in awe of what has been building behind this iconic shell we've all been looking at for so longac transit says the center -- which stretches four blocks -- was designed to improve reliability and will help ease traffic congestion.

( james ) firefighters have made significant progress on the mendocino complex fire that is burning in mendocino and lake counties. the wildfire has burned more than 336-thousand acres... but this morning containment is up to 70-percent. ( james ) breaking entertainment news. we're getting reports that the 'queen of soul,' aretha franklin is 'gravely ill.' the 76 year old singer is surrounded by loved ones at her home in detroit and they're asking for privacy and prayers. franklin was forced to cancel several shows last year citing doctors orders. her last performance was in november in new york. ( james ) coming up on the kron 4 morning news ...investigators are still trying to figure out how an airline employee was able to steal a plane before crashing. the latest on the investigation is ahead. bay... presentation high school in san jose is facing a lawsuit in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of former students. a former student has filed a civil suit alleging she was molested in 2003 by former presentation theater director jefferey hicks. the lawsuit also alleges that former principal mary miller knew about the abuse but failed to report it to the police.

( james ) in national news... the n-t-s-b is looking into how an employee was able to steal an airplane from seattle-tacoma international airport before crashing it into a wooded area. andrew spencer has the details. "beebo," his family called him, describing richard russell as a warm and compassionate man.voice of richard russell: "i've got a lot of people that care about me, and uhh... it's gonna disappoint them to hear that i did this."before pulling off an aerial stunt and after gently refusing air traffic control's attempts to convince him to land the stolen plane safely, russell apologized to the people he thought he was disappointing.voice of richard russell: "just a broken guy. got a few screws loose, i guess. never really knew it, until now."the n-t-s-b said

sunday the crash took russell through several lines of 100-foot-high trees.crews recovered the flight data recorder over the weekend; the n-t-s-b expects it to arrive in washington, d-c, on tuesday for analysis.russell posted a video on youtube last year about his job working as a ground service agent for horizon air. officials say it's that job that enabled him to tow the plane out of a maintenance area and take off -- without authorization -- from seattle-tacoma international airport on friday.the pierce county sheriff's department described russell as suicidal.the man whose family described him as a faithful husband, a loving son, and a good friend.... keeping conversation light in his darkest moments.voice of richard russell: "i think i'm gonna try to do a barrel roll, and if that goes good, then i'm just gonna nose down and call it a night."i'm andrew spencer, reporting ( james ) back here in the bay area... the outside lands music festival wrapped up over

the weekend. but now the city is cleaning up after thousands of people turned out at golden gate park. kron 4's hermela aregawi has that part of the story. it was quite the show.janet jackson really got the crowd going.. we spoke with some people that grew up in the nineties before the show that said.. they came to see if she still has it.. and judging by the audience reaction.. it looks like she delivered. . the weather wasn't so great today.. but it didn't stop everyone from enjoying the last day. a cloudy thi day at golden gate park..as the third and final day of outside lands wraps.festival organizers say.. 200-thousand people attended the show.. comparable to previous years.and many won't home pleased with the music they heard. jake beizer/festival goer i was most looking forward to seeing future. future is one of my favorite artists and i think he definitely lived up to the performance. he played a lot of his old music which i appreciated. and the crowd was really really feeling it so i think he did a great job. over 60 different acts performed over the three day

festival.with the weekend, florence and the machine and janet jackson headlining the event. lhyra sagid/festival goeri am looking forward to see janet jackson. i've always been into music and i'm really excited to see her. she's an awesome dancer and an awesome performer and she's legendary, so how can i not want to see her. so i'm excited really really excited. friday and saturday were sunny.. with sunday staying mostly cloudy.. but it didn't stop hundreds of thousands of people from enjoying the festival to the last drop. jake beizer/festival goer the weather was great the first two days and i think that makes a big difference. i think having nice weather gets everyone i a great mood. today wasn't as good and i think there wasn't as many people here today. but i would say it was a great success and probably better than when i went two years ago. ( james ) happening today... there will be a ribbon cutting for the new 2 billion dollar transbay transit center in downtown san francisco. the center has been under construction for the last 8 years. it is home to 11 transportation systems including buses and trains. the doors opened to commuters for the first time yesterday for some bus riders. today's ribbon cutting is scheduled during the 5:00 hour this morning. kron 4's lydia pantazes will be live at the transit center for the ribbon cutting. ( james ) a south bay motorcyclist is recovering from serious injuries after a woman crashed into him as he was headed towards santa cruz. kron 4's ella sogomonian met with the victim.... and has his plea to the public. sot: ella sogomonian//"the victim says the driver hit him hard enough he flew across the

median divider into oncoming traffic and is lucky to be alive tonight...he says she got out to make sure he wasnt dead then drove off."it's been two days since motorcyclist kyle de priest crashed on a south bay freeway thursday..a deep gash on his knee was stiched up and is now badly swollen.sot: tiffany de priest, wife// "it's kind of the fear of every motorcycle wife that you're going to get the call that you're husband has been in an accident."de priest says he was riding his orange harley southbound in the fast lane on highway 17 in los gatos a few hundred feet from the cats bar...when around 6:45 at night he was struck by a car and thrown across the center divider... sot: kyle de priest, hit and run victim// "within 30 seconds i just jumped up and went back over that wall and made my way to the shoulder on the southbound side and by the time i made my way to the shoulder i couldn't walk anymore." witnesses came to his aid and helped de priest into a pick up truck where he safely waited for an ambulance... but de priest is still looking for the driver he believes hit him who

( james ) 32 people were forced out of their homes over the weekend by a major fire in daly city that damaged four houses. a child was the first to see the fire saturday that was burning near a deck in a backyard and alerted an adult. the fire spread quickly to nearby homes. no one was injured in the fire. ( james ) in san francisco... a construction worker has died after being hit with a steel beam while working on the twin peaks tunnel renovation project. the victim was a signal technician. muni was replacing tracks and drainage systems in the tunnel, which connects the west portal neighborhood to downtown san francisco. neighbors say they saw construction workers gathering outside of the

tunnel... followed by an ambulance rushing to the scene. ( james ) cal- osha and other officials have been investigating the accident. work on the project has resumed after a safety check of the tunnel. ( james ) in the east bay... a stunning sight as a small plane made an emergency landing on interstate 580. it happened just before 6:30 saturday night... the plane landed on westbound 580 near the 164th avenue exit in san leandro. the pilot told the c-h-p that the plane's fuel line snapped which stopped the engine. the pilot was flying from lake tahoe to the hayward airport.

scene, observed an airplane blocking the number 4 lane. the officers moved it to the right shoulder>( james ) the pilot said when the engine stopped.. he made contact with air traffic controllers and noticed there were fewer cars on that side of the highway. no one on the ground was injured. one person on the plane did suffer minor injuries during the landing. ( james ) yosemite national park will reopen tomorrow... 14 -days after a wildfire choked the park with smoke at the peak of tourist season. a park spokesperson says visitors should expect limited hours ... as the park returns to normal. meanwhile... the ferguson fire... which was responsible for most of that smoke... has now burned more than 95-thousand acres it is 80-percent contained. ( james ) c-h-p officers held a somber procession over the weekend to honor the late officer, kirk greiss. on friday, greiss made a traffic stop on i-80 in fairfield when a pick-up truck crashed into greiss and the driver he had stopped. both of them were killed. the end of watch procession included dozens of officers riding the same type of motorcycle officer greiss rode during his 19 years on the force. ( james ) in the south bay... san jose police are searching for a man who stole a laptop right out of the hands of it's owner. you can see in this video the man come into the grind coffee house on concourse drive. he checks the place out as he walks to the back. moments later... he grabs the laptop and runs out the door. the laptop owner tries to chase after him but the thief jumps into a black cadillac and gets away. the much anticipated transbay terminal will be fully operational this morning. ( james ) kron 4's lydia pantazes joins us live now with the details. (lydia)as you know the grand opening was this weekend but this morning the center will welcome the first bus from the trans bay bus line....the passengers will break the ribbon and officially dedicate the bus deck into operation. (take vo)there was a grand opening this weekend... it was a packed house as people tried to get into the $2.2 billion multistory transportation hub. the new center stretches roughly three city blocks from beale street to second street south of mission street.we talked to riders this weekend. the victim was a signal technician. muni was replacing tracks and drainage systems in the tunnel, which connects the west portal neighborhood to downtown san francisco. neighbors say they saw many construction workers outside of the tunnel... followed by an ambulance rushing to the scene. cal- osha and other officials have been investigating the accident. work on the project has resumed after a safety check of the tunnel. ( james ) in the east bay... a stunning sight as a small plane made an emergency landing on interstate 580. it happened just before 6:30 saturday night... the plane landed on westbound 580 near the 164th avenue exit in san leandro. the pilot told the c-h-p that the plane's fuel line snapped which stopped the engine. the pilot was flying from lake tahoe to the hayward airport. the pilot said when the engine stopped.. he made contact with air traffic controllers and noticed there were fewer cars on that side of the highway. no one on the ground was injured.

that is burning in mendocino and lake counties. the wildfire has burned more than 336-thousand acres... but this morning containment is up to 70-percent. ( darya ) the mendocino complex fire is just one of more than a dozen fires burning across the state. natasha chen has more on the holy fire burning in southern california. some good news finally for crews battling wildfires in california. they were able to make a massive gain in getting the holy fire under control over the weekend. going from 10 percent containment to over 50 percent.and that's great news to residents too.almost half of the 21,000 people under mandatory evacuation were able to return home.the man accused of starting the holy fire was in court friday, pacing back and forth and shouting down charges. forrest gordon clark / suspected arsonist:

replacing tracks and drainage systems in the tunnel, which connects the west portal neighborhood to downtown san francisco. neighbors say they saw many construction workers outside of the tunnel... followed by an ambulance rushing to the scene. cal- osha and other officials have been investigating the accident. work on the project has resumed after a safety check of the tunnel. ( james ) in the east bay... a stunning sight as a small plane made an emergency landing on interstate 580. it happened just before 6:30 saturday night... the plane landed on westbound 580 near the 164th avenue exit in san leandro. the pilot told the c-h-p that the plane's fuel line snapped which stopped the engine. the pilot was flying from lake tahoe to the hayward airport. the pilot said when the engine stopped.. he made contact with air traffic controllers annoticed there were fewer cars on that side of the highway. no one on the ground was injured. one person on the plane did suffer minor injuries during the landing.

( darya ) the family of pearl pinson.. a vallejo teen who was abducted two years ago.. wants to make sure another family does not go through what they did. the pinson family helped organize a backpack drive at the vallejo mobile home r-v park. they wanted to help their community to have a successful school year.. but they also wanted to teach an important lesson about self defense. ( darya ) the vallejo police department stopped by to teach kids what do do if a stranger approaches them on the streets. the pinson family says it's a good time to talk to kids about stranger danger. friday during a traffic stop. kron 4's sara stinson has the story. the procession escorted late officer kirk greiss from the coroners office to here at the vaca hills chapel funeral home in vacaville.i spoke with neighbors of his who say his death is a major hit the entire community.the end of watch procession included dozens of officers riding the same kind of motorcycle officer greiss rode to serve his community for 19 years. this after he was killed in a horrific crash on friday morning.officer greiss was in the middle of a traffic stop on i-80 west in fairfield when a chevrolet pick-up truck crashed into him and the driver in the saturn he was stopping. both 49-year-old jaime manuel and officer greiss were taken the hospital where both of them were pronounced dead.a long time neighbor - david hoen says it take long for people to learn the tragic news.

the homeless ...is taking his passion for pizza to the streets. he's raising money to for 2 organizations dedicated to helping the homeless. mark schechter (shek-ter) works in tech, but he loves to make pizza ... and wants to help the less fortunate.so he started a fundraiser ... that will go to the 'homeless action center' and 'spirit of oakland'. he plans to take his pizza oven and organic ingredients to one of the east bay encampments and feed up to 100 people labor day weekend.
