( grant ) in the east bay... an oakland man is behind bars after police on suspicion of gun and drug possession. police say 51- year-old kenneth ammons was riding a motor scooter they believe was stolen. they say he was making several traffic violations in the parking lot of an emeryville mall. ammons allegedly ran from an officer and throw away a loaded firearm. police took him into custody without incident. ( vicki ) the 49ers have been denied a request to reduce rent at levi's stadium. the team aimed to lower their annual rent by four point two-five million dollars. instead, the teams rent will increase a quarter of a million dollars, according to the santa clara stadium authority. this would make their annual rent just under 25 million dollars a year.

after their request was denied in 2016, the team filed for arbitration. the 49ers have not commented on the situation. five... vacaville first responders are being hailed heros after they saved the lives of several animals during the nelson fire. you can see officers, officials with nonprofits and other volunteers evacuating the s-p-c-a office. the fire was fully contained on sunday, but burned down a home and threatened many structures. it burned over two- thousand acres after it started on highway 80 in fairfield friday. no injuries were reported in the fire and thanks to the couragous efforts by first responder, many animals were saved... northwest appears to have come to grips with her loss. officer killed in the line of duty was honored with a bell toll in west sacramento today. motorcycle officer kirk griess (griss) had pulled over an s-u-v for a traffic stop friday when he was hit by a pickup truck.the s-u-v driver was also killed -- and the truck driver was hospitalized. the truck driver was being questioned by police and there's no word yet on what led up to the accident or whether he'll be charged. griess, a marine corps veteran, worked for the highway patrol for 19 years. he leaves behind a wife, two adult daughters, and a teenage son. (pam) prosecutors have added yet another murder charge against the suspected "golden state killer'. authorities in visalia say, they now believe joseph deangelo is also the so-called 'visalia ransacker' of the 1970's.. the new murder charge against deangelo - filed in tulare county - brings the number of victims in his alleged murder spree to 13... investigators believe deangelo is the man behind roughly one- hundred home burglaries in visalia - between april 1974 and december 1975. they also say, he is the man who shot and killed college professor claude snelling during a home invasion in 1975. police

say, snelling had discovered a man trying to kidnap his 16- year-old daughter... and he was shot as he rushed over to save her. in california..(pam) over the weekend they made major progress .... as they continue to battle eleven large wildfires across the state. catherine heenan is here with an update.... and video of an animal rescue.. (catherine) there's newly released body- cam video from police in vacaville...it shows them racing to help evacuate an animal shelter there.. the s-p-c-a solano county had posted on face book that it looked like their property was in the direct path of the fire.

on extremely short notice - they were forced to get out of there. there was thick smoke in the background as officers put cats and dogs in their own cars... they even dared to return later - after word that some cats had been left behind. they managed to get the dozens of animals to safety. fortunately the fire never reached the shelter and all 60 animals are in foster homes tonight. it was all playing out as fire crews were making progress... over the weekend, crews were able to increase the containment of the holy fire to 50 percent. up from 10 percent on friday. the deadly carr fire is 59 percent contained. in the mendocino complex fire - the largest in state history - the river fire is mostly contained. the larger ranch fire is 62 percent contained.

policy bill into law. one of the measures in the bill aims to stop water contamination at military bases and other areas nearby. our washington correspondent jessica smith reports. a fire-fighting foam used on military bases ... has literally poisoned the well... the foam contains chemicals which have been linked to cancer and other health issues. senator gary peters says it's not just military bases at risk -- but communities surrounding the installations in michigan--and around the country....

a provision in the 2019 defense bill, that encourages the defense department to use firefighting foams without the chemicals, known as pfas. : earlier this year, the department of defense told us it was working to address the problem, and make sure military bases and surrounding areas had access to safe drinking water.
