( james ) a big story we are following this morning... a firefighter has died fighting the mendocino complex fire burning in lake... mendocino and collusa counties. so far that fire has burned more than 349-thousand acres. it is 68% contained this morning. 146 homes have been destroyed. more than one thousand buildings are still being threatened. and this morning we have learned that the firefighter killed was from utah. the firefighter's name has not been released. ( james ) in the east bay... police in contra costa county are asking for help figuring out how a woman died after her body was found in a canal nearly a month ago. 25 year old kreonna smith went missing on july 16th... four days later her body was found floating in the contra

costa water district canal. her body had been in the water for several days. the sheriff's office dive team got her out...and took the body to the coroner...but they still do not know how she died. ( james ) new this morning... a south bay woman has died nearly 3 months after her son was arrested for killing her husband and trying to kill her. kim lan ly and her husband were both shot back on may 20th, the husband... thaou quoc luu... died at the scene. this is video of a vigil for him that was held days later. the suspect was identified as the couple's son. duong luu was arrested two days after the shooting along with madison muong. both men are expecte to be arraigned in court next week. ( james ) also new this morning... a reward is now being offered for help finding the person who killed an 8-month-old dog in sonoma county. the dog's body was found in this back pack on the side of todd road and stony point in santa rosa last month.

now the animal legal defense fund is offering a 5- thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. a necropsy revealed the eight-month-old chihuahua mix died after being strangled. ( james ) in the east bay... police have identified the man who was shot and killed in castro valley last thursday. we brought this story to you last week as breaking news. this is video from the scene. the victim has been identified as 24-year-old joseph gormley. police say gormley was sitting in his car on john court when somebody walked up and opened fire. police are now looking at surveillance video from nearby homes to try and identify the shooter. ( james ) happening today... the mother of a teenager shot and killed 12-years ago in san francisco will return to the corner where her son was shot in an effort to help solve his murder. 17-year-old aubrey abrakasa was shot and killed at the intersection of grove and baker streets back in august of 2006. police

believe that the boy was approached by two men on the corner before he was shot but have not been able to identify the shooter. police have since offered a 250-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest. later this afternoon abrakasa's mother and police officers will be out at the intersection of grove and baker handing out fliers to try and generate new leads in the case. ( james ) in the east bay... an oakland police officer is in critical condition after being involved in a violent crash. we brought this to you as breaking news yesterday morning. police say the officer was responding to a suspicious person call when he collided with a car and parked semi-truck. it happened on middle harbor road at the port of oakland. the patrol car was so badly damaged that the fire department was called in to free the trapped officer. the injured officer has not been with the department long and is the son of an active

duty lieutenant. ( james ) police say police say the drivers in the car and the parked semi-truck were not injured. ( james ) a new development in the ghost ship fire trial after a plea deal was tossed out in court last friday. derick almena's lawyer now plans on asking to move the trial saying his client cannot get a fair trial in alameda county. almena publicly admitted his guilt when a plea deal was reached. his lawyer will ask to move the trial to another county. almena previously agreed to serve nine years in prison after 36 people were killed when a massive fire broke out inside the warehouse back in 20-16. ( james ) another big story we are following this morning... 10 people have been

displaced after a fire at a home in san francisco. the fire broke out on ralston street late yesterday morning. the fire was in the homes attic. firefighters were able to put it out quickly. 8 adults and two children were living in the home at the time. hobody was injured. ( james ) a big story we are following this morning... three children are dead after being killed by their own father. this happened in clearlake... police say ricardo lopez shot his 4 children before turning the gun on himself. the children all between the ages of 9-months and 5 years old. after lopez began shooting... his wife ran to get help. when police arrived lopez and three of the children were found dead. the five year old was alive but had a gunshot wound in his chest. that child is listed in stable condition this morning. ( james ) we now know the names of the two boys killed in the walnut creek crash on sunday. 17-year-old dakari (duh-car-ee) fagorala (fay-go-rah-la) and 18-year-old john walizada of

antioch. we spoke to fagorala's mother who said the group of five had grown up together.. they all just graduated high school together. she also said the teens were at city nights.. a club in san francisco the night of the crash. but fagorala's mother is asking everyone to forgive the driver.. ramya ramey.. and says they all made the decision to get into the car.

argument over the weekend may have led to a deadly quadruple shooting. it happened on the corner of mission street and geneva avenue on saturday morning. a 19-year-old man was killed. he has been identified as gerson romero. two men and a woman were also shot. they are all expected to be okay. police are reviewing surveillance video in the area to try and identify the shooter. ( james ) happening now... a grounded fishing bout in santa cruz is leaked diesel into the ocean. this is a picture of the grounded boat from over the weekend. according to the coast guard... about 200 gallons of diesel leaked into the water. the boat crashed early sunday morning near natural bridges state beach. the captain and his dog were able to get off the boat quickly. so far there have not been any reported affects on wildlife in the area. most of the boat has been removed from the water and no more diesel is expected to leak into the water. ( james ) new this morning. police in london are investigating a crash outside of parliament as

terrorist incident. a car crashed into security barriers outside the uk's houses of parliament during rush hour this morning, injuring two people. the victims are expected to survive. the male driver of the car has been detained. ( james ) a developing story we are following this morning... aretha franklin is in hospice care at her detroit home, a friend close to the 76-year-old singer says. the "queen of soul" is being described as gravely ill and surround by family. franklin has been dogged by reports of failing health for years and appeared frail in recent photos, but she has kept her struggles private. celebrities from all over the world have been sending their support to the franklin family. following this morning... we have new video of a daring animal rescue mission pulled off friday evening by police... when a fire threatened the solano county s-p-c-a animal shelter. kron 4's gabe slate has the story nat sound of police rescue body cam footage from vacaville police officers shows how intense it was when officers rushed to evacuate the dogs and cats inside the solano county spca animal shelter friday evening as the nelson fire threated to burn it down. sound from mark donaldson - lieutenant vacaville police "putting dogs cats in crates in patrol cars to save them and take them to a nearby makeshift shelter" mark donaldson, with vacaville police, says the fire

( james ) in santa clara county.... officials will be fogging for mosquitoes after they detected west nile virus in portions of santa clara and sunnyvale. the fogging is scheduled for tomorrow night at 11 p-m. this is a map officials put out of the area impacted. the fogging should take a few hours. yesterday... notices of the treatment were placed in neighborhoods where it will be happening. ( james ) south san francisco police are searching for two people who robbed a person of their i-phone ten. police say a man met up with a potential buyer after advertising the phone for sale on a social media app. that is when the thieves grabbed the phone from the victim... and took off in a silver s-u-v.. as they drove away... the victim grabbed onto the door and was dragged several feet before letting go. ( james ) california cities are objecting to a proposed change in state regulation that they say would allow unchecked home marijuana deliveries. the

california league of cities says the change would undermine local authority in places that have banned pot sales. however the state bureau of cannabis control sees it differently. it says the change would clarify a law that a licensed pot delivery can be made to any jurisdiction in the state. ( james ) the drinking water in one northern california city may not be safe. a notice, sent to people in manteca along with their water bill, stated that an elevated level of a contaminant was found during a test in february... some people said it was the first time they were receiving notice. todd robins... a san francisco based attorney... represents the city of manteca in its lawsuit against two companies for causing the contamination, he says...several notices have been sent out since february. < "the city is doing more than just providing public notice. they have minimized the use of the two wells that are out of compliance with this standard. to the point where those two wells are only contributing right now 1% of the total water production for the people of manteca>( james )

robins says several cities in the central valley have filed lawsuits against shell oil and dow chemical for contaminants being found in the water... ( james ) in national news... a utah man crashes an airplane into his own home, hours after being arrested for domestic violence. 47-year-old duane youd, a professional pilot, was bailed out of jail monday morning. about two hours later, youd flew the plane into his home. his wife and son were both inside the house when the plane hit it. neither of them were hurt, but youd died in the ( james ) still ahead on the kron four morning news... the new charges facing the man accused of being the golden state killer. ( james ) in the north bay. three men are behind bars...on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping. authorities say the trio tied up and beat a man. it happened sunday at a marijuana farm on saint helena road in santa rosa. the victim says he was the former pot grower of that farm... but was replaced by one of the three suspects... moises calvillo-chavez. the victim tells police he had a disagreement with calvillo- chavez over the phone prompting calvillo-chavez and two men... chad canup and salvador martinez to attack him. the victim is expected to be okay. authorities found the three men near the farm and arrested them. ( james ) in the east bay... an oakland man is behind bars for gun charges and drug possession. police say 51-year-old kenneth ammons was riding a motor scooter makign several traffic violations in the parking lot of an emeryville mall. police believed the scooter may have been stolen. when an officer attempted stop ammons he ran away.. throwing out a loaded gun in the process. after a short pursuit police took him into custody without incident. ( james ) happening now...

police are searching for a gunman in connection with a drive-by shooting that injured a man in san francisco. the shooting happened around 10 sunday night in the mission district. the victim was standing at the corner of 24th and folsom streets. police say a gray sedan pulled up and someone inside began shooting. the gunfire struck the victim's leg.. but the injury is not considered to be life- threatening. no other people were injured and police do not have a description of the suspect at this time. ( james ) prosecutors have charged suspected "golden state killer" joseph deangelo with murder in another case. authorities in visalia say they have evidence that deangelo is also the so-called 'visalia ransacker' of the 1970's. investigators believe deangelo is the man behind roughly one- hundred home burglaries in visalia... between april 1974 and december 1975. they say he shot and killed college professor claude snelling during a home invasion in 1975. police say snelling had discovered a man trying to

( james ) we are now officially less than a month away from the opening of the n-f-l regular season. until the games start counting for real, the raiders are working through training camp...and finalizing their rosters. kron4's mark carpenter has the latest from raiders traning camp. while the raiders have the luxury of not having to find a franchise quarterback, they still need a backup. although connor cook made a strong case in the team's preseason opener, jon gruden says the battle for number 2 is far from over."we made it hard on him today, put him in some tough positions. you don't get a chance to read your clippings and celebrate your press conferences for long in this business. so, hopefully he got his eyes opened today and can learn from his film. he obviously missed a couple throws we expect him to hit." coach gruden making it clear that everyone is being evaluated.

( james ) now to baseball... the giants looked like they were going to go down at the hands of clayton kershaw... but rallied late... kershaw... gave up only one run over 8 innings on the other side... madison bumgarner. in the bottom of the 4th... kershaw... pops one down the left field line... brandon crawford and gorkys hernandez runs into each other... it falls in for an rbi double... crawford had to leave the game under concussion concerns.

( darya ) happening now... a grounded fishing boat in into the ocean. this is a picture of the grounded boat from over the weekend. according to the coast guard... about 200 gallons of diesel leaked into the water. the boat crashed early sunday morning near natural bridges state beach. the captain and his dog were able to get off the boat quickly. so far there have not been any reported affects on wildlife in the area. most of the boat has been removed from the water and no more diesel is expected to leak into the water. being offered for help finding the person who killed an 8-month-old dog in sonoma county. the dog's body was found in this back pack on the side of todd road and stony point in santa rosa last month. now the animal legal defense fund is offering a 5- thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. a necropsy revealed the eight-month-old chihuahua mix died after being strangled. ( james ) a big story this morning ... we have new video of a daring animal rescue mission pulled off friday evening by police... when the nelson fire threatened the solano county s-p-c-a animal shelter. vacaville police rushed in to save the dog and cats. police then set up a temporary shelter in a nearby grocery store parking lot and thats when members of community started showing up to help.

( darya ) happening now... a grounded fishing boat in santa cruz has leaked diesel into the ocean. this is a picture of the grounded boat from over the weekend. according to the coast guard... about 200 gallons of diesel leaked into the water. the boat crashed early sunday morning near natural bridges state beach. the captain and his dog were able to get off the boat quickly. so far there have not been any reported affects on wildlife in the area. most of the boat has been removed from the water and no more diesel is expected to leak into the water. ( darya ) in santa clara county.... officials will be fogging for mosquitoes after they detected west nile virus in portions of santa clara and sunnyvale. the fogging is scheduled for tomorrow night at 11 p-m. this is a map officials put out of the area impacted. the fogging should take a few hours. yesterday... notices of the treatment were placed in neighborhoods where it will be

( darya ) happening now... police are searching for a gunman in connection with a drive-by shooting that injured a man in san francisco. the shooting happened around 10 sunday night in the mission district. the victim was standing at the corner of 24th and folsom streets. police say a gray sedan pulled up and someone inside began shooting. the gunfire struck the victim's leg.. but the injury is not considered to be life- threatening. no other people were injured and police do not have a description of the suspect at this time. ( james ) prosecutors have charged suspected "golden state killer" joseph deangelo with murder in another case. authorities in visalia say they have evidence that deangelo is also the so-called 'visalia ransacker' of the 1970's. investigators believe deangelo is the man behind roughly one- hundred home burglaries in visalia... between april 1974 and december 1975. they say he

richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( darya ) the drinking water in one northern california city may not be safe. a notice, sent to people in manteca along with their water bill, stated that an elevated level of a contaminant was found during a test in february... some people said it was the first time they were receiving notice. now the city of manteca is suing shell oil and dow chemical for causing the contamination. several cities in the central valley have already filed lawsuits against the two companies for contaminants being found in the water.
