(catherine) this is a story you really have to see to believe.the bridge is on a heavily traveled tourist route between france and italy. you can see where a section gave way...sending more than thirty cars and trucks plunging nearly 150 natghostly images of survivors from the italian fire brigade, their first images from the air revealed that a huge section of the bridge had given way ... 250 feet long, almost as big as a football field.natcnn's nic robertson was on the highway heading to the bridge.you can see where the bridge just sheared off debris hanging from the side

there and at the other end of the bridge. several hundred yards away that truck just close to the drop off. a driver there who had a hugely lucky escape. down below, rescue crews racing against time to search through the wrecked vars.search dogs helped them look for survivors. natauthorities warned the death toll may rise dramatically.the highway was unusually crowded.tomorrow is the feast of the assumption ... a national holiday in both france and italy and for many, the traditional start of a summer vacation.the bridge was built of reinforced concrete a half=century ago, and many genoese had espressed concern about its safety.officials say work was under way to shore up its structure when it collapsed.the city's mayor says he wants to rebuild as possible. my role as the mayor is to make sure we have the correct infrastructure for the city and make sure that from the government we get the right amount of money in order to be able to set up the new infrastructure as soon as possible."

(vicki) a big story tonight... the mother of a cold case homicide victim standing at the scene of the crime today ... as she does every year on the anniversary of his death. 12 years ago -- aubrey abrakasa was shot and killed on the corner of grant and baker streets in san francisco. kron4's michelle kingston is standing there now after speaking to aubrey's mother ... a woman who is not giving up hope that one day justice will be served for her son. michelle? .. she holds a prayer circle here every year on his anniversary ...but every day since he died -- she has balloons, a flower and his photo up hoping someone sees it and comes forward. aubrey was 17 when he was shot and killed on his way to work. his mother says he saw a group of guys going to shoot neighbors down the street and aubrey told those neighbors to

to cancel trips because of the closure. park offciails say air quality has improved since it was first closed on july 25th... but visitors should still expect to see and smell some smoke. the park is running limited services... with some campgrounds still closed and limited food services. the ferguson fire is 86-percent contained tonight. (vicki) and new details tonight about the utah firefighter killed in the largest wildfire in state history. 42-year-old matthew burchett was killed last night when he was battling flames of the ranch fire... and a tree fell on him and other fire fighters. three others were injured in the incident. burchett was one of 37 firefighters from utah who volunteered to travel to help with the fires in california. he leaves behind a wife and 7-year-old son. in total-- six firefighters have been killed in the recent series of deadly and devastating wildfires that have spread through drought- parched forests across the state.

(grant) in world news tonight... british counter-terrorism police say an incident in which a car s driven into a barrier near the houses of parliament in london... appears to be a deliberate act. this is video of the scene today. police say the driver is a 29-year-old british national. he was arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act... and is currently being questioned at a south london police station. police say he was driving a silver ford fiesta.... and traveled from birmingham to london last last night. police say there have been no other arrests in connection with this investigation. two people were taken to the hospital-- but are expected to be okay. and president trump is responding to the crash... he tweeted today saying... "another terrorist attack in london...these animals are crazy and must be dealt with through toughness and strength!". manigault newman claims she heard recordings in which the president used the n-word. the trump campaign has filed for arbitration against omarosa. the campaign says she broke a 20-16 nondisclosure agreement barring her from talking about many of the details of her work. this means a judge or a legal representative will handle the claim to determine if she violated the agreement. omarosa recently published a tell-all white house memoir... which details private conversations during the campaign and in the white house. she also released recordings of conversations with white house chief of staff john kelly, campaign aides, and president trump himself. ( vicki ) new tonight at 5... there is a push to ban "duck boats" across the country. one of the survivors of last month's missouri duck boat tragedy has launched an online petition to ban the boats. 17 people died after storms caused a duck boat to capsize on a lake in branson, missouri. tia coleman was on the boat with 10 other family members. nine of them died. the coast guard says the boat shouldn't have been on the

water. in response to the tragedy, coleman launched a change-dot-org petition to ban quote "death trap duck boats" because of their deadly design." the coleman attorney says additional lawsuits are expected. ghost ship fire trial... derick almena's lawyer now wants to move the trial out of the area. this development comes... after the judge in the case tossed out his plea deal last friday. almena agreed to plead guilty for his part in the ghost ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people... in exchange for a nine year sentence. his lawyer believes his client can't get a fair trial in alameda county... that's why he's asking for a change of venue. (vicki) in the south bay... a woman has died nearly 3 months after her son was arrested for killing her husband... and then trying to

kill her. kim lan ly and her husband were both shot back on may 20th. her husband died at the scene. this is video of a vigil for him that was held days later. the suspect was identified as the couple's son. duong luu was arrested two days after the shooting along with madison muong. both men are expected to be arraigned next week. (vicki) santa clara county officials are warning residents about a scam targeting people to demand payments with bitcoin. one version of the letter starts with a statement saying in part -- "i'm going to cut to the chase. i know aou tthe secret you are keeping from your wife and everyone else..." to aviod having the alleged secret revealed, the letter demands a large payment. the district attorney's office recommends that you disregard these letters and if you are a victim of this scam -- contact the u-s postal inspectors service. county. the dog's body was found in this back pack on the side of todd road near stony point road in santa rosa last month. now the animal legal defense fund is offering a 5-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. a necropsy revealed the eight-month-old chihuahua mix died after being strangled. (vicki) now - the council says a new poll shows that most of the public strongly agrees... catherine heenan is here with the details.. (catherine) the bay area council wants a stronger police presence on bart.... and did a twitter poll to gauge public support for the idea... the results - 75% of the respondents agree that more police patrols could only help. the president of the council calls it an "overwhelming plea"for more help in keeping things safe. bart has been under a lot of pressure, especially since last month's stabbing death of a young woman - nia wilson. a range of added security measures has been proposed and some of them have been adopted. but the bay area council says it's not enough. calling it unfair to bart riders to keep them 'hostage to a system where they don't feel safe.' the council wants other law enforcement agencies to mobilize with bart police - calling it an 'extreme emergemcy.' vicki and grant?

( vicki ) los angeles is set to install body scanners for their subway system. this would make l-a the first mass transit system in the u-s with body scanners. this is a picture of what the scanners look like. the goal is to screen passengers for weapons and explosives. the scanners would be able to screen passengers at a distance. this can lead up to 2-thousand passenger scans every hour. los angeles officials say the scanners that are being deployed are portable, so passengers are ánot being slowed down. (pam) meantime.. the search continues for a veteran hiker in yosemite national park... he has not been seen for almost three weeks now..(ken) catherine heenan is here with the latest on the search for scott tenczar...(ten-zar) his family says scott tenczar - a native of san jose - is a very careful and experienced explorer.... he likes to hike - and he had let people know where he was headed... he'd planned to backpack from robinson creek in yosemite to crown lake, seavey pass and peeler lake, among other spots. it's an area in the section of park -- not near the ferguson fire, which his brother said scott knew about. that same brother is worried that he's hurt....and having trouble coming off the mountain.
