officers are gathering at highland hospital to support one of their own. 22-year-old officer jordan wingate ááremains in critical condition-- after crashing his patrol car-- while responding to a call. kron 4's ali reid has an update on s condition from highland hospital. we're told the hospital is running a number of tests right now.in the meantime, loved ones are coming out in numbers.pkgfriends, family and colleagues pour in and out of highland hospital tuesday evening ... visiting officer jordan wingate, who remains in critical condition. oakland police chief anne kirkpatrick also showed her respects to the family.outside ... o-p-d cornered off a part of the roadway to make it easier for anyone visiting the family. the violent traffic collision happened just before 3am monday on middle harbor road at the port of oakland.the 22 year old officer was responding to a call about suspicious people in the area, when he crashed into a car then a parked semi-truck. opd

investors say the civilian vehicle was being driven a doc worker heading home and was not injured. wingate is one of the newer recruits ... graduating in 2017. the injured officer is also the son of an active duty lieutenant in the oakland police department. standup understandably a very difficult time for the oakland police department, as well as friends and family.right now their focus is stcking together, and praying for a recovery.reporting live from oakland ... ali reid ... kron 4 news. ( robin )after nearly 3 weeks... a yosemite hiker is still missing. 48-year-old scott tenczar was last seen at the bridgeport ranger station on july 25th. tenczar's family says he wanted to backpack in the hills. crews have followed the trails he planned to hike.. which are in the north eastern section of the park.. not near the ferguson fire. his brother says officials found tenczar's car parked near robinson creek with his phone and keys inside. search dogs are

being used... but no other leads have been found. morning... near fernwood street and 31st avenue. that's right across the street from hillsdale high school. the woman says the mountain lion walked into a backyard... but did not act aggressive. police are still searching the area for that mountain lion. ( robin )in national news... a new report from a pennsylvania grand jury accuses catholic church leaders of covering up decades of sexual abuse. one of them being cardinal donald wuerl. a new report says cardinal wuerl approved transfers for priests instead of removing them from ministry. wuerl oversaw inadequate church investigations, and concealed information when priests were reported to law enforcement. the report also mentions he advised parishes not to publicly announce or acknowledge complaints, and offered financial support to priests who were accused and later resigned. he says in a statement tuesday that he "acted with diligence, with concern for the victims and to prevent future acts of abuse."

more than 300 priest have been accused of sexually abusing more than 1-thousand young victims. ( robin )the former baltimore police officer caught on video beating a man repeatedly... has been indicted. arthur williams - who was a newly sworn in probationary officer - resigned sunday, after video of the incident surfaced. baltimore police said, williams and another officer, approached dashawn mc-grier ... while responding to crime in the area back on august 11th. williams was seen on video repeatedly punching mcgrier. his attorney says, he was left with a fractured jaw. now a warrant has been issued for william's arrest. ( robin )in world news... rescue crews continue to search for suvivors... after a large portion of a bridge collapsed in genoa , italy. it happened yesterday on one of genoa's busiest roads. authorities say, at least 39 people were killed - but that number is expected to rise. reporter mary moloney has the latest.

terrifying images out of genoa, italy nats as a large chunk of a bridge crumbled onto the ground below - killing dozens and injuring many others. rescue crews racing against time to pull any survivors from the rubble. but authorities warn the death toll may rise. officials say about 30 cars and trucks were on the bridge when it collapsed. it's part of a busy highway used by residents and tourists.it links genoa to a nearby airport -- and is a key route along the mediterranean that connects france and italy.as crews continue the painstaking work of digging through the destruction.authorities work to piece together what went wrongthe company in charge of italian highways says the bridge was built in the 1960s and was undergoing maintenance. local police said weather may have been a factor -- as a violent storm was blowing through when it collapsed. but a cause has not yet been determined. the city's mayor

( robin ) a big story we're following this morning... a firefighter has passed away... after battling the mendocino complex ranch fire.42-year-old fire battalion chief, matt burchett, died monday night. burchett served as fire chief in draper utah. cal fire reports burchett was injured when a tree fell on him. he died after being flown to a local hospital. the utah native joined the department in may to head the city's wildland fire program. before that... he served for 20 years with salt lake city's fire department. he

is survived by his young son and his wife. ( robin ) the mendocino complex fire has now burned more than 350-thousand acres and is 64-percent contained. ( robin )in southern california - the holy fire has burned almost 23-thousand acres. so far it is now 64-percent contained. nearly half of the 21- thousand people under mandatory evacuation are now allowed to return home. more than 14-hundred firefighters are battling the blaze. they expect to have it fully contained by friday august 17th. ( robin )and in shasta and trinity counties the carr fire has burned more than 211- thousand acres... and is 65 percent contained. the fire has destroyed more than a-

thousand homes.3 firefighters have been killed in this fire. ( robin )despite the carr fire still burning... kids in shasta county are preparing to head back to school... some with little supplies. but thanks to one woman... children affected by the wildfire... will be back to school ready. kron 4s ella sogomonian explains. sot: sandy schneider, organizer// "these are all the donations that came in over a three day period we sort of extended it because people wanted to give more." sandy schneider of pleasanton has organized a donation for hundreds of families displaced by the carr fire and 35 families who've lost their homes to the flames. the tri valley communited has banded together to collect school supplies, hygiene products, toys and clothing.they're also donating baby items for expectant mothers and a newborn... but the group also has 60 families sponsored 60 children returning shasta elementary school by donating specific to the needs of each student...sot: sandy

you drive into the park it does not feel like the fire is out. you can see smoke everywhere, you can smell it, there are still active hot spots that are still smoking i saw several hot spots where flames were visible. helicopters are still dropping water in the park on these hot spots. these signs warning of extreme fire danger are visible throughout the yosemite loop. let me show you the landmarks this is what el capitan looks like it's covered in a brown haze of smoke. and here is half dome which is a little farther east into the park.. the air was a little better here but still half dome was covered in smoke. sophia bergal / visitor it's my husband's birthday so happy to be heresophia bergal and her husband tom echoed

aubrey abra-kasa was shot and killed in san francisco... and his mother is still fighting for answers. kron 4's michelle kingston attended a prayer circle on the anniversary of abra-kasa's death... and talked to the victim's mother. ( robin )a sacramento woman's remains have been identified this morning. this is video of a transient woman carrying a human skull on a stick about 2-years ago. police now know the skull belonged to 26-year-old, (my kerr tohw) mai ker thao . the homeless women eventually led investigators to the rest of mai ker's body in an abandoned homeless encampment on crosby way. now thao's younger sister... wants answers.

positively identify thao's remains. as of now they're still investigating how she died. ( robin )a new poll by the bay area council says people are in favor of adding more police officers on bart. the council asked twitter users how they felt about adding more officers to the transit system. the results - 75% agree that more police patrols could help. the president of the council calls it an "overwhelming plea" for more help in keeping everyone safe. bart has been under a lot of pressure since last month's stabbing death of young woman - nia wilson. a range of added security measures has been proposed and some of them have been adopted.... but the council says it's not enough. calling it unfair to bart riders to keep them 'hostage to a system where they don't feel safe.' ( robin )for your money th morning... the f-b-i has a warning about a-t-m's. they say the machines could fall

victim to hacking attacks. that's according to a report from "krebs on security," a cyber-security blog. it says there's a scheme called "a-t-m cash-out." krebs says hackers can get inside a bank or payment card processor and take large amounts of cash with stolen information. the threat is world-wide. the f-b-i has yet to make a specific comment on this matter. wells fargo and j-p morgan chase also declined to make a statement. ( robin )santa clara county officials are warning residents about a scam targeting people to demand payments with bitcoin. one version of the letter starts with a statement saying in part -- "i'm going to cut to the chase. i know about the secret you are keeping from your wife and everyone else..." to aviod having the alleged secret revealed, the letter demands a large payment. the district attorney's office recommends that you disregard these letters and if you are a victim of this scam -- contact the u-s postal inspectors service.

how the city is considered a prime location... for bay area millionaires. at one time, east palo alto was thought of as an affordable place to by a home... no longer.... sot catherine gortner/real estate broker 05-15this home is priced under 1.4 and we epxect mutipe offers and we expect it to sell above 1.6above 1.6 million dollars for this 4 bed 2 and ahlaf bath home in the university park neighborhood.. . that's more than double what it sold for in 2000sotthe homes have tripled since the downturnand it's not just in this east palo alto neighborhood...this home for example on fordham street sold for $240,000 in 2008, $460,000 in 2014 and sold in june of this year for $895,000... and new research from zillow says east palo alto is on the cusp of joining the million dollar club, meaning more than half the homes for sale will sell for over a million dollars.

the shooting happened last night near shotwell and 15th streets. police say they have no information on the shooter. ( james ) police in emeryville need help in finding the person who left a suspicious device in a garage. police say a maintenance worker found the item in a storage room in a garage on shellmound street. the bomb squad was called in and used a controlled esplosive to destroy it. police did search the entire complex where the item was found and nothing suspicious was found. ( darya ) in the east bay.. oakland police are investigating a bank robbery that happened at the chase bank on 8th street on tuesday morning. the robber was able to get away. ( darya ) the bay area council wants a stronger police presence on bart... and so do riders. the council used twitter to poll riders. the results -- 75-percent say more police patrols would help. bart has been under a lot of pressure... especially since last month's stabbing death of 18-year-old

( james ) kids in shasta county are getting ready to go back to school. and one woman is making sure they have the supplies they need. sandy schneider of pleasanton has organized a donation drive for hundreds of families displaced by the carr fire and 35 families who've lost their homes to the flames. she collected school supplies, hygiene products, toys and clothing. schneider and other volunteers are loading up two trucks and two trailers today. they'll hand out the supplies in redding tomorrow. francisco is stepping up efforts to keep sidewalks and streets clean.( darya ) starting next month... a special team will be out cleaning up human and pet waste. kron 4's charles clifford has the story. natsnormally when san francisco public works gets a call about a dirty sidewalk or street, they send out a crew to clean it up, but in recent years the department has seen a sharp increase in the number of service calls. so starting next month, a new six man team will be hitting the streets to try to be proactive about the problem.rachael gordon is with san francisco public works.sot we will have a dedicated crew going out to known hot spots around the city where there have been complaints of feces whether dog or human and they are going to clean it up. that's their new job.this special team is part of an ongoing effort by the city to keep human and pet waste off the streets. public works says they've also had good luck with their pit stop program which is made up of 22 public toilets in 12 neighborhoods across the city. sotwe want to be able to allow people relieve themselves with dignity and not use our public sidewalks as their toilets. public works admits that keeping san francisco clean is

( will ) that's according to a report from "krebs on security," a cyber-security blog. it says there's a scheme called "a-t-m cash-out." krebs says hackers can get inside a bank or payment card processor and take large amounts of cash with stolen information. the threat is world-wide. the f-b-i has yet to make a specific comment on this matter. wells fargo and j-p morgan chase also declined to make a statement.

( darya ) happening today... two of the people charged in the murder of a milbrae father will be back in court. keith green disappeared in april of 2016 in milbrae and his body was found a few weeks later... dumped on the side of the road in healdsburg. green's ex- girlfriend tiffany li along with kaveh bayat and olivier adella were all charged in the murder. today... li and bayat will be back in court to set a date for their trial. adella has already pleaded no contest to charges of being an accessory to murder. he has also agreed to testify against the other two in exchange for a lighter sentence. ( darya ) the search continues this morning for an east bay law student who likely fell from a cliff while viisting a park in oregon. 23-year-old brian lewinstein was last seen sunday afternoon. sheriff's deputies say he crossed a safety fence to take a photo

( darya ) a utah firefighter... killed while battling the mendocino complex fire... is being honored for his bravery. 42-year-old matthew burchett leaves behind a wife and young son. burchett served for 20 years in salt lake city. he joined a smaller department back in may... to lead its wildfire program. his colleagues are remembering him as a loving and talented man.

( james ) new this morning. a shooting in san francisco's mission district... leaves a man with life-threatening injuries. the shooting happened last night near shotwell and 15th streets. police say they have no information on the shooter. ( james ) police in emeryville need help in finding the person who left a suspicious device in a garage. police say a maintenance worker found the item in a storage room in a garage on shellmound street. the bomb squad was called in and used a controlled esplosive to destroy it. police did search the entire complex where the item was found and nothing suspicious was found. ( darya ) in the east bay.. oakland police are investigating a bank robbery that happened at the chase bank on 8th street on tuesday morning. the robber was able to get away. ( darya ) the city of san francisco is stepping up efforts to keep sidewalks and streets clean. starting next month... a special team will be out cleaning up human and pet waste. in recent years san francisco public works says they have seen an increase in the number of calls to clean up streets.
