involved in a crash that killed c-h-p officer kirk griess , and another man during a traffic stop... will appear in court this afternoon. kron 4's j-r stone has the story from fairfield... and tell us the charges he could face. sot the evidence indicates he was on his telephone shortly before the accident.solano county district attorney krishna abrams referring to 36 year old sean walker...the man arrested and being blamed for this fairfield accident that left two people dead.sot he was driving at an excessive speed on the freeway while he was on the phone and then he caused this accident and caused the death of both of these two innocent individuals. chp officer kirk griess was killed in this crash along westbound 80 near manuel

campos parkway and north texas street. griess had just pulled over jaime manuel who was driving a saturn suv when the white chevy pick truck, driven by walker veered off the road and hit griess and manel's suv. killing both men. walker now faces two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and a felony count of reckless driving. sot something that we will not tolerate we want the message to be sent that your actions have consequences.....lives can be changed because of those actions.griess leaves behind a wife and three kids ages 25, 21, and 14.jr stand the suspect here sean walker will face a judge on thursday afternoon here in solano county at 1:30. in fairfield, j.r. stone, kron 4 news.

( robin )new this morning... a bay area construction company's violations are beginning to surface... after a man died while on the job. patrick ricketts, who worked for shimmick construction, died almost a week ago... after a steel beam struck him while working on the twin peaks tunnel in san francisco. according to the cal- osha... shimmick construction has a history of workplack and safety violations... including a november 20-16 incident in which a worker operating a forklift died after losing control and going into a trench. san francisco supervisor, norman yee, plans to hold a hearing next month to investigate how city contractors are chosen. ( robin )police are investigating a shooting in the san francisco bayview neighborhood... that left a man in critical condition. police are now searching for his attackers. kron 4's ali reid talked with the victim's family... and has the story. the victim remains in the intensive care unit tonight.

( robin )police in san mateo are investigating a report of a sexual assault involving a rideshare driver. it happened tuesday night around seven p-m on fashion island boulevard.. near mariners island boulevard. police say the victim was picked up by a driver... who claimed he was th a ride-share company. police released this sketch of the suspect. the victim says, the suspect drove her to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her. she managed to escape and with

the assistance of a passerby, she called police. the suspect fled the area in a gray 4-door sedan. police have not said which rideshare company the suspect claimed to be associated with. ( robin )happening tomorrow... the family of nia wilson will hold a news conference to announce the lawsuit they filed against bart... over wilson's death. nia wilson is the young woman killed on july 22nd at the macarthur bart station. her sister was also injured in the attack, which bart police say appears to be random. john cowell has been charged with murder and attempted murder. according to the wilson family's lawyer, the suit will quote "allege bart failed to meet the duty of common carriers to provide riders with the highest standard of care." helicopter over the fire tornado in redding on july 26th. just minutes before plumes of smoke started swirling... stoke called for help saying that he needed a water drop in the area. unfornunately it was too late and the fire tornado reached up to speeds of 165-miles per hour. the fire tornado covered 1-thousand feet wide and reached a height of 40- thousand feet. temperatures at the time were almost 3-thousand degrees. cal fire says it left a trail of damaged trees, rooftops, power line towers, cars, and a steel shipping ( robin )loved-ones of a fallen utah firefighter said their finals good-bye's during a procession in the north bay. 42-year-old, battalion chief matt burchett... died while battling the mendocino complex fire on monday. kron 4's justine waldman was there for the home going... before his remains were sent back to utah.

county... the carr fire is still burning this morning. according to cal- fire... the blaze has now burned more than 214-thousand acres. right now it is 69-rcent contained. three people have died because of this fire.. and more than one- thousand homes are now destroyed. ( robin )that fire was sparked by a vehicle with a flat tire... when metal from the wheel scraped the asphalt on the road. some victims want the people in that vehicle to know they understand it was an accident. reporter julia avery explains. shasta county showing tremendous compassion and support since the carr fire ripped through redding.natsot "the carr fire has just exploded again.""everything is moving so quickly.""this trailer behind me may possibly be the origin of this fire." but people are going further than just helping those who lost their homes. they are now reaching out to tell the owners of the trailer with the flat tire, which is believed

( robin )more help is on the way for fire victims. the department of housing and urban development has approved more than 200- million dollars for wildfire recovery. nearly half of that money will go to sonoma county and the city of napa. the other half of the money will be divided between five other areas, including parts of lake and mendocino counties. the money is meant to help with long term recovery from 20-17's deadly wildfires... which destroyed thousands of homes. kron 4's dan kerman explains. you might call it bay area bad roads... conditions have become so bad, road crews can barely keep up... then add to that congestion which seems to clog streets and highways at all hours.sotnow a new study by the trip research groups finds bad roads and congestion are costing california drivers 61 billion dollars annually either in repair costs or lost time and fuel due to delays.in the san francisco oakland area the costs break down to $2,992 per driver annually, while in the san jose area it costs drivers an extra $2,745sot carl guardino/ california transportation commission 41-51 carl guardino is a member of the california transportation commission. he says for more than 2 and half decades california didn't invest in transportation, that changed last year when the state legislature passed a 12 cent a

gallon hike in the gas tax generating nearly 5-and a half billion dollars a year. sot that's why guardino is opposed to a november ballot measure which would repeal the gas tax... he thinks it's a step in the wrong direction and many drivers agree. and quick. the dmv has been working to reduce wait times at its offices statewide. on august 4th... the dmv expanded saturday service at several dozen offices... and last month began offering extended hours at 14 locations... 4-days a week. ( robin )police in the east bay are looking for this man who assaulted a customer at a concord gas station. it happened at the shell station on oak grove road back on july 31st. officers were called to the gas station when they say, the man and another customer got into a verbal fight. it then escalated and the suspect pushed the victim to the ground... injuring him. the suspect left the area in a white van. you're asked to call... if you have any information. ( robin )a former officer from the c-h-p amador area-- which is just past lodi and stockton ... is facing a number of sexual abuse and rape charges. 35- year old michael joslin was in court yesterday for his arraignment, where he

pleaded ánot guilty to five áfelony counts of continued sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl. according to the criminal complaint filed in court, the charges also included rape of the child. the amador county sheriff's investigators were notified of the alleged abuse on sunday. joslin was arrested on monday by deputies from his own office.

pleaded not guilty to 18- counts of tax and banking charges yesterday. in closing arguments, prosecutors spent more than 90- minutes laying out their case. saying that manafort repeatedly lied in order to finance an extravagant lifestyle. procecutors also said manafort's tax returns from 20-10 through 20-14 are 20-10 through 20-14 are false. they then told members of the jury that they must see that manafort willfully and knowingly lied on official i-r-s forms about his income and foreign accounts. ( robin ) for your health this morning... a measles outbreak has hit almost two dozen states... including california. so far there are more than 100 cases, but the centers for disease control... expects that number to rise. kron 4's charles clifford talked with a doctor about what people need to do to protect themselves. the center for disease control says that so far this year 107 people in 21 states have contracted measles. in california, the health department says that there have been 18 confirmed cases of the virus this year. sot

diseases. it doesn't take much of the virus. . a particle to get in the air and create exposure for a whole classroom. if there's one kid with measles in a classroom coughing that whole classroom will be exposed.fortunately, measles is also very preventable. the measles vaccine is about 95 percent effective and in california all kids are now required to be vaccinated before they start kindergarten. willis says that parents who still refuse to vaccinate their kids are putting their child's health and education at risk. sotif there is a case of measles at a school, we will exclude unvaccinated children for 21 days. which is the period of infectivity. we want to make sure that all parents know that so they can vaccinate their children so they don't have to deal with that.cdc says 107 measles cases so far in the us, there were 118 total cases last year. in marin county, charles clifford kron 4 news. in several produces including cheerios and quaker oats granola bars. glyphosphate is the active ingredient in monsanto's roundup weed killer. scientists tested 29 products... and found most of them contained higher levels of the chemical than deemed safe. last friday, in a bench-mark case... benicia school district groundskeeper, dewayne johnson, was awarded 289- million-dollars in damages after a jury found that roundup was a significant cause of his terminal cancer. monsanto officals say round-up did not cause his cancer... and says it is appealing the ( robin )in san bruno people plead with new city leaders to not cut down two heritage trees. the trees are more than 100 years old and are in an area that will soon be a new park. kron 4's hermela aregawi was at a park and recs meeting... and has the latest on this ongoing fight. with a new city manager leading san bruno..some

residents are feeling hopeful that they'll be able to save these two heritage trees from being cut down.they've been right here for more than 100 years.. and that's exactly where this community wants them to stay.santha takahashi/san brunowe are losing a lot of trees in these fires. we need to start to keep them and keep them healthy as well.it's part of the web of life. it's part of our system. wildlife live in it. pigeons roost in them. you know they are part of the community just like the rest of us that have houses and that have taken away a lot of the habitat for the wildllife. doe newiger/san brunotrees are essential to life. i mean they process carbon into food. they emit oxygen. they are necessary for our planet so at the very least, if they can't accomodate the tress. the first thought should be they are heritage trees let's find a home for them.the city plans to build a playground on what is now just a piece of dirt land. in the initial plans.. the trees were allowed to stay.. but later residents

that story for you in the next hour. i'm april kennedy and i'm an arborist with pg&e in the sierras. since the onset of the drought, more than 129 million trees have died in california. pg&e prunes and removes over a million trees every year to ensure that hazardous trees can't impact power lines. and since the onset of the drought we've doubled our efforts. i grew up in the forests out in this area and honestly it's heartbreaking to see all these trees dying. what guides me is ensuring that the public is going to be safer

( will )authorities have arrested a man they say killed a california highway patrol officer and another man in a freeway crash.it was announced wednesday that sean walker of rocklin is facing two charges of vehicular manslaughter. it's unclear whether he has an attorney.prosecutors say walker was on his cellphone and distracted last friday when his pickup truck slammed into motorcycle officer kirk griess, who had pulled over an suv on the shoulder of interstate 80 in fairfield.the crash killed griess, a 19-yer chp veteran, and the suv's driver, 49-year-old jaime manuel.griess leaves a wife and three children. manuel is survived by a wife and daughter in the philippines.

'jungle' grew up in bayview and made it his life's mission to give back. the father of one has been doing otureach with the youth for many years. for the last three.. he has been a part of the street violence intervention program.

again. jack phillips has filed a lawsuit against the state of colorado... alleging religious discrimination. this time... it's because of his refusal to serve a transgender customer. last june... autumn scardina asked for a cake that was blue on the outside and pink on the inside. phillips' bakery refused the order on religious grounds. a year later... the colorado civil rights commission ruled there is probable cause that refusal constitutes discrimination. a few month ago... phillips won his supreme court case after refusing to serve a gay couple. ( james ) an oklahoma school has re-opened after being shut down for two days... because of threats posted online. a 7th-grade transgender girl used the girl's restroom on the first day of school... prompting the threats. some calling for her to be beat up and others threatened her with a knife. some of the comments were made by parents in the school district.. but most made were from other areas.

( james ) a big story this morning... police in san mateo are investigating a sexual assault... involving a rideshare driver.take a look at this map - san mateo police says the female victim was picked up by a man... claiming to be her ride-share driver on highway 92 tuesday night. the victim was able to escape from the man in a secluded area off of highway 92, and run to get help from a passerby on the 14-hundred block of fashion island boulevard around seven... that's when she called police. that man then drove away in a four door grey sedan. this is a sketch of the attacker. the victim describes him as white, mid 30's and slender build. police have not said which rideshare company the suspect claimed to be associated with.

( darya ) 3 sacramento women say their uber driver threatened to kill them. the women say the man drove erratically and didn't follow directions to their home. eventually... the women called 9-1-1 and that's when the driver let them out. their nightmare ride lasted 25 minutes. ( will )authorities have arrested a man they say killed a california highway patrol officer and another man in a freeway crash.it was announced wednesday that sean walker of rocklin is facing two charges of vehicular manslaughter. it's unclear whether he has an attorney.prosecutors say walker was on his cellphone and distracted last friday when his pickup truck slammed into motorcycle officer kirk griess, who had pulled over an suv on the shoulder of interstate 80 in fairfield.the crash killed griess, a 19-yer chp veteran, and the suv's driver, 49-year-old jaime manuel.griess leaves a wife and three children. manuel is survived by a wife and daughter in the philippines.

jeremy stoke was killed by a "firenado." stoke died july 26th. minutes before a plume of smoke started swirling around him... stoke radioed out a mayday call. he said he needed a water drop in the area. unfornunately it was too late... and the firenado reached up to speeds of 165 miles per hour. it covered 1 thousand feet and its temperature was 3-thousand degrees. cal fire says it left a trail of damaged trees, rooftops, power line towers and cars. ( darya ) in the north bay... the public said goodbye to a fallen firefighter. a procession for battalion chief matt burchett took place.. as his body was returned home to utah. the 42 year-old was killed monday while battling the mendocino complex fire. his body was surrounded by a full honor guard, with dozens of fellow firefighters and law enforcement officers. burchett's body was escorted

( darya ) in the east bay... police are looking for a man who assaulted a customer at a concord gas station. it happened at the shell station on oak grove road back on july 31st. police just released these surveillance images. officers were called to the gas station after the man and customer got into an argument. it then escalated and the attacker pushed the customer to the ground... injuring him. the attacker then took off in a white van. ( darya ) milpitas police have arrested three people after locating a stolen car. 33-year-old athena mcnary... 39-year-old saren alexander and 32-year-old tarron browden were arrested on august 9th without

incident. police found the car.. unccupied in a parking lot of the best value inn.. after running the plates.. they determined it was stolen. mcnary was identifed as the driver and arrested. alexander and browden were located inside the hotel and arrested. mcnary and browden are being held at clara jail... cited and ( james ) more than 650 families have found affordable housing in oakland this year... using a city program that boosts section 8. so far... 75 landlords have agreed to accept section 8 vouchers... instead of putting their properties on the open market. those who agree to take part are eligible for a 500 signing bonus... and up to 25-hundred dollars in interest-free loans for repairs. city officials say more than 500 units have been inspected to help bring them up to code. ( james ) a suspected terrorist is arrested in sacramento... for killing a police officer in iraq. omar abdul-sattar ameen is expected to be extradited to iraq. ameen is accused of being part of an isis convoy... that targeted the officer's home. that attack happened back in 2014.

the f-b-i's joint terrorism task force took ameen into custody yesterday. ( darya ) city officials in tracy have fired police chief larry esquivel. esquivel spent 30 years with the san jose police department. a spokesperson said the firing was a personnel matter. but members of the city council say they don't have all the details and believe it was a political move. councilmembers say he has been excellent for the community issues. esquivel was named the top cop two years ago in tracy. the tracy police officers association posted a statement saying they fully support esquivel. ( darya ) a former c-h-p officer from amador county is facing a number of sexual abuse and rape charges. 35- year old michael joslin has pleaded not guilty to five felony counts. he's accused of abusing of a 12-year-old girl. joslin was arrested on monday by deputies from his own office.

( james ) national news this morning... the colorado baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple... is going to court again. jack phillips has filed a lawsuit against the state of colorado... alleging religious discrimination. this time... it's because of his refusal to serve a transgender customer. last june... autumn scardina asked for a cake that was blue on the outside and pink on the inside. phillips' bakery refused the order on religious grounds. a year later... the colorado civil rights commission ruled there is probable cause that refusal constitutes discrimination.
