campus. we know one student was injured-- and three others are in custody tonight. good evening i'm grant lodes. (vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the incident happened this afternoon on the campus of balboa park high school. on this map-- you can see three other schools in the area-- james denman middle school, leadership high school, and san miguel early education school. all of those schools were placed on lockdown today. kron-4's dan kerman joins us live now from balboa high school with the latest on the investigation. dan? shooting balboa high 083018 heavily armed san francisco police officers decended on balboa high school about 11-15 thursday morning following reports of a firearm on campus sot gentle blyth/s.f. school spokespersonall of our school are on lockdown, students are inside classrooms doors and classroom are locked, students are with teachers.soti was in the room when the gun went off students say they were in the auditorium for study hall when a gun inside another students backpack went off. soti just seen his hand in his backpack sotwe hear a loud bang and a

hole in chair and something on the ground students say the student with the gun then took off running. sotwe are condicting a search of the schoolthe school was locked down, and police began searching the building as nervous family members began arriving, many thinking about the epidemic of school shootings throughout the nation.sotfirst thing was like is my brother dead and i went blank after thatsot my heart just dropped but th ear him text back i am feeling ok many parents were relieved to get text messages from their kids during the lockdownsotshe sounded pretty scared at the beginning she now seems calm and me and both of her dads are texting her and she's giving us updates every thirty secondsby 1-15 police issued an all clear sotthere is no longer an active threat at balboa high school by 130 students started leaving the school... and police announced three students were taken into custody... a 4th student suffered no life threatening injuries.139 non life threatening injuries

(grant) oakland police are releasing surveillance video and sketches that they say show persons of interest in a 20-16 double murder. kron4's maureen kelly was at the news conference... where the family of one victim made an emotional plea for more witnesses to come forward. he had the whole world in front of him and we're really hurting so any tips you can bring would be very helpfulthe foster mother of craig fletcher cox cried as she asked for witnesses to come forward to help bring her closure.the young man's family and friends lined up behind police with his picture...police also showed this video that shows the chaos the night of the killings as people fled when shots rang out after fletcher cox got into an altercation with a group of suspects at a party on the 300 block of 15th street as a result of that not only was he beat up but he was also shot. there was a number people out there that

flooded the streets wants the gunfire erupted. people ran in all different directions. as a result other people started shooting at another young man was shot and killed in that was terrence mccrery jr. mcrery was struck by a stray bullet. a thrid victim was shot but survived. police also revealed surveillance video of two men walking away from the melee.they are calling these two men persons of interest. here is composite sketches of those men....as well a thrid person police say they are looking to identify. fletcher cox's grandmother echoed the investigators pleas for those there that night to come forward with what they know. we want people to come forward there was a lot of people at that party that night and i know someone know something. this is been two years and it's hard it's very hardpolice say those who want to remain anonymous can call their tipline. we've posted that on our website.maureen kelly kron4news (grant) an arbitrator is sending

colin kaepernick's grievance with the n-f-l to trial. this denies the league's request to throw out the quarterback's claims... that owners conspired to keep him off any n-f-l roster-- because of his protests during the national anthem. the former 49er argues that owners have colluded since he hit free agency in 20-17. kaepernick began a wave of protests by n-f-l players two seasons ago, kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. kaepernick contends the owners violated union rules by conspiring to keep him unemployed. (vicki) happening now... authorities are hoping for more help from the public in finding a missing canadian woman and her daughter... (grant) they flew into s-f-o saturday - with plans to go camping up and down the state. catherine heenan is here with the latest.. audrey's boyfriend in canada reported them missing monday after he couldn't reach them for two days.. the san mateo county sheriff's office has been looking for them..the mother and daughter checked into the vagabond hotel in burlingame sunday night.. witnesses think they might have spotted them tuesday at a campground in six rivers national forest... staff and visitors say the two appeared happy..but there have been no other reported sightings. sheriff's investigators say they're actively searching....and are hoping for new leads from the public. vicki and grant? (vicki) also happening now... police in the south bay are looking for the gunman after a shooting on interstate-680 in san jose. kron4's lydia pantazes explains what happened. a man was shot while driving on interstate 680 in san jose thursday morning.chp says they were notified of a shooting in the northbound lanes of i-680 at 3 a.m.northbound i-680 was shut down between capitol and berryessa as authorities investigated.the freeway was

reopened by 6:30 a.m. one person was injured when a vehicle opened fire on another vehicle. authorities say the man was shot in the back and is in stable condition. there was another person in the car that was shot at but that person was not injured. at this point, investigators do not know if this was a targeted shooting. further details are unknown at this time.

(grant) beware and be careful. that is the message to motorists for this upcoming labor day weekend. the c-h-p... along with the nevada highway patrol... are teaming up... and cracking down on distracted drivers. kron four's terisa estacio went along with the chp today to get a closer look at those distractions... she joins us live from along interstate-80 in crockett... terisa - what did you find? there are some pretty chilling numbers our there when it comes to distracted drivers and fatalities.... but the chp is hoping to get this message out... it is called the 180 challenge and the hope is to save lives... this as officers reflecte on the recent death of one of their own... brandon correia, "trying to prevent those fatalities from occuring." i teamed up with chp officer brandon correia to

capture on camera just how distracted drivers are these days... it is all in connection with the i-80 challenge - a pledge law enforcement is asking of drivers to stay mindful and pay attention. especially now as the busy labor day weekend begins to unfold. correia. "pull over to the side" it didn't take long to find a driver speeding... correia. i saw you on the phone. you didn't even see me. as well as someone on their cellphone. according to the national highway traffic safety administration each day 9 people die and 1,000 are injured due to distracted driving. correia. we just lost an officer. it was just two weeks ago, that chp officer curt griss and anotehr motorists died, when an alleged distracted driver hit the two on the side of 180 in fairfield. the suspect was caught and now facing multiple felony charges. correia. it is always personal. i don't want to die, i don't want my family members to die, or your's , but tragically people don't get it... they don't get the repercussions of their actions, so that is why we are out here to educate, not just

at least four people have been killed in a bus crash in new mexico. police say a greyhound bus was hit head on by a semi truck... after the semi truck blew a tire and swerved.the crash happened on interstate 40 in thoreau - which is near the arizona border.the bus was carrying 47 passengers - and was heading from albuquerque to phoenix police say the death toll could rise. (grant) coming up... a tree limb comes crashing down-- and smashes several cars in a quiet east bay neighborhood. why the city could be at fault. now - some people are talking about a boycott. the chairman of california's democratic party is one of them...he's promoting the social media hashtag - "boycott in-n- out".... the burger chain was started in southern california decades ago by a christian family, whose granddaughter still owns the company. it displays its religious views. ..even putting a bible verse on some packaging. in recent years, in-n-out has contributed to republicans and pro-business causes.. but according to the company-- they also donate to the democratic party. grant and vicki? "7 cars were damaged here on hardy circle in pleasant hill after this massive branch fell

from a 350 foot heritage oak tree. you can see the worst damage here the branch split this truck in half. it's am 80 foot long branch at least." the branch came crashing down just past midnight on thursday. pieces of the branch fell all the way to the home across the street. it woke up the neighborhood - you can see everyone standing over the wreckage.shattering windshields and even flattening two trucks like pancakes. "when we opened up the door it was surreal"audra cudd owns the home where this tree stands - she's thankful no one was hurt - but it was a close call. cudd says they've kept an eye on the heritage oak over the years which is protected by the city who named it "emma". city crews spent hours clearing hardy circle - but after that cudd had to spend time speaking with her insurance company."the homeowners are waiting for their homeowners insurance to arrive to assess the situation so they can finally clear the branch from the area. soc."> (anchor)

(grant) in the east bay... a school in el cerrito is investigating a teacher for allegedly using a racial slur. that teacher has been placed on administrative leave. the executive director of the summit k-2 charter school released a statement saying in part: "k2 has a zero- tolerance policy on inappropriate, insensitive or hateful language of any kind. the school immediately launched an investigation once it became aware of claims made by students about inappropriate language used by a teacher." the school is not releasing the teacher's name. (vicki) in the south bay... a san jose teacher has been arrested for committing a strong arm robbery... and for keeping a loaded gun in his classroom.. kron 4's will tran has the latest.

many parents dropping off their kids at chaboya middle school are still angry that a teacher was arrested on campus.... allegedly with a loaded handgun in his bag(it's horrible. just horrible. i read it and saw it on the news just like everyone else. it's hard to believe)on wednesday san jose police arrested 35 year old charles so accusing him of a strong arm robbery during a road rage incident back in february where they say he took the victim's cell phone.the school district sent out letters to parents telling them about so and what happened at the school.many parents can't believe their kids could have possibly been hurt by the gun.(feel they're not safety right now because a teacher has a gun. what the hell is this?)(personally was really surprised and shocked because the teacher is kind of new. to hear that a new teacher had a loaded gun in the classroom was really unexpected)earlier this year chaboya middle school was one of countless schools across the gun that protested gun violence.police say there was no indication that so was going to use the gun to hurt anyone at the schoolwill tran/san jose-so is a first year teacher at the school and passed all of his background checks. nothing jumped out to his bosses until yesterday. he's been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. in san jose will tran kron 4 news

(grant) on the peninsula... people in one san mateo county neighborhood are being warned after a recent series of home burglaries. police say three homes in the emerald hills area have been hit in the last week and a half. emerald hills is an upscale neighborhood west of redwood city. two of the burglaries happened between 7 p-m and 11 p-m. police say they have leads in the case but are asking people in the area to check their surveillance cameras for anything suspicious. lawrence karnow: low clouds slowly pulled back to the coast but temperatures were all running below the average. highs today were in the 70s inland with 60s and 70s around the bay and 50s and 60s at the

(grant) an uber driver in florida is claiming self-defense after shootingand killing a man who tried to run him off the road..(vicki) catherine heenan is here with more on the case - which has some law enforcement insisting the uber driver was justified.. (catherine) that uber driver also happens to have graduated recently from the police academy. his name is robert westlake. he found himself and his found himself he found himself and his passenger in the middle of a threatening situation early tuesday morning... there's dashcam video taken by a camera in westlake's car...it shows an enraged man cutting off the car....then threatening to shoot the uber driver. that's when westlake shot him - before discovering he was holding a cellphone,

not a gun. police say the victim was jason boek...who mistakenly thought his estranged girlfriend was the uber passenger. boek had a criminal record. the uber driver called police and then tried to revive the man. the polk county florida sheriff says it's a classic 'stand your ground' case...and no charges will be filed against the uber driver. the victim's family is arguing that authorities are being too lenient. vicki and grant? known as "the valley of hearts delight" will soon be closing it's doors. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now from sunnyvale, it is the beginning of the end for the c.j. olson cherry stand. deborah olson was cheerful as ever this morning but having to explain to her many loyal customers that c.j. olson cherries is shutting down at the end of next month, is bittersweet, but it's been a great run. deborah olson/c.j. cherries "...it's been a great run, it's been an exciting lifestyle, our customers are the best..."indeed, snapping up fresh fruit, nuts and cherries, of course, customers aresad that another landmark institution is going away.c.j. olson's fruit stand has graced the el camino real in sunnyvale avenuesince the 30's. the olson family has farmed cherries in the valley since 1899 only to see most of the orchards give way to concrete and silcon. farming was a way of life for deborah olson.deborah olson "....i worked every summer of my life along side my grandmother rose and she taught me the art of selling and how to take care of your customers and i carry that on to this day..."but growing, picking, sorting and selling cherries is hard work. there is competition from the big markets and labor is scarce. the fruit stand is closing but the fruit will still be available wholesale
