tragedy in learning a toddler h i'm grant lodes.(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the 19 month old has been identified as lily aracic. police say she was accidentally left inside the car for several hours yesterday afternoon in moraga. it happened on hardie drive. a family member later discovered the child in the car and immediately called 9-1-1. at that point the child was not breathing... the temperature at the time - was 80 degrees outside.(grant) joining us now live from kansas city missouri is tara lamont - with kids-and- cars-dot-org. it's an advocacy group that works to prevent these types of tragedies... tara - let's talk about how something like this can happen. .

fire... laine hendricks, marin co. spokesperson. marin co fire inspectors have determined it was caused by a downed power line. the irving fire ignited monday night near samual p taylor park in marin's san geronimo valley in western marin. the fire now 80 percent contained. it burned through 152 acres. this is video taken from county fire personnel out on the front lines. water tenders, five engines and four hand crews remain putting out hot spots. the power line - at the focus of the investigation is up near mt. barnabe. cynthia fetherstone, marin resident it was some fire. i was really scared, never scared like that. cynthia evacuated monday night as she says flames roared up on the ridge behind her home on portola avenue. an evacuation order was issued for three roads in the area. here on wednesday, cynthia was back home. cynthia. i was terrified. her power was still out - but she was grateful to all the crews. kron four reached out to pge, in a statement, they said quote: we are aware that the marin county fire dept is

is his home security video that captures the three unidentified suspects. a woman walks up to the front door pretending to make a food delivery. when no one is home she gives a signal to her two accomplices. they break in through the back way and in this case they walked out according to the homeowner with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry stuffed in their pillowcases. (homeowner does not want to be identified.) "it's a little frightening. i'm not going to let it change our life. we're not going to put bars in our window."police say this has happened four different times in the last month within a square mile area in the same mar vista neighborhood. the suspects have driven off in three different vehicles -- all with paper plates. nats: "blue car, blue car, blue car" in the security video one of the suspects authority in the house and tells the female accomplice to go back, get the car and bring it closer to the driveway so he can bolt out the door. nats of suspectsnats of reporter/homeowner "how much was taken from you?" not want to go on camera but it was his security video that caught the woman knocking on the door but his security camera did not catch the suspects leaving. in the same mar vista neighborhood august 31st in an unrelated case a security camera catches a woman described as being homeless trying to get into a home. when confronted by the homeowner she said i'm looking for my grandma's house and she leaves.the home owner identified as a.j. said this. a.j./homeowner "we have video, we have alarms, and it doesn't seem to be a deterrent." (grant) starting in the east bay... where police are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a young girl at a bus stop. it happened in el sobrante yesterday. kron4's lydia pantazes reports. sheriffs investigators say the girl was sitting at a bus stop in el sobrante when the man approached her.the bus station is on the 36-hundred block of san pablo dam road. investigators say at about 9:03 in the morning on september 11th, the girl was

waiting at the bus stop to go to school when an unknown man sitting next to her and started talking to her.the man apparently offered her money to leave with him and the girl got scared and started to walk away a bystander called the sheriffs department.that man is described as a black male between 45 and 55 years old with a medium build he was wearing a gray hoodie style sweatshirt that had the word gap across the front.he was also wearing gray sweatpants and had sunglasses but was not wearing them he was driving a small white colored sedan. anyone with information is asked to call the contra costa sheriffs department.

(vicki) in the south bay... at least a dozen people are homeless after a santa clara apartment complex caught fire overnight. kron 4's sara stinson talked to the people who live there and has their story. the fire burned mainly on the outside and in the attic of one of the laguna clara apartment buildings over night. now -12 people are without a home as the property manager works to figure out if the building can survive the fire. the fire broke out at around 10:45 tuesday night. people who live here go hear and smell the flames roar.

this building.">when fire crews arrived to the apartment complex on homestead road they saw the smoke and fire coming from the attic. that's when they called for a second alarm fire. santa clara firefighters knocked down the flames within 35 minutes. three units where 12 people were living have been deemed unsafe. red cross is working with the property manager to find everyone a temporary place to stay. but as the property owner and manager work to get the building assessed other people standby as their apartment remains tapped off. "it's difficult i'm staying at a friends house now." others are just glad fire crews stopped the fire from spreading.

(vicki) back to a big story we are following tonight... more than one thousand businesses across the u-s are getting letters from the f-d-a --warning to stop selling e-cigarettes to minors. it's part of the largest enforcement effort in agency history to crack down on what the fda calls an epidemic. administration on wednesday marks a stark shift in the agency's tone on e-cigarettes, which have become the most used tobacco product among teenagers.since 2017, fda officials have discussed e- cigarettes as a potential tool to ween adult smokers off cigarettes.but fda commissioner scott gottlieb says the agency did not predict an "epidemic of addiction" among youth, mainly driven by flavored products. gottlieb says the five largest e-cigarette manufacturers will have 60 days to produce plans to immediately reverse underage use of their products. roof top park on top of the 2 billion dollar transbay transit center is already showing signs of wear and tear. the walkway that circles the 5-and-a-half acre rooftop garden is crumbling in many spots. kron4's maureen kelly has the latest on what's being done about it. (take pkgtake a look at the damage that's already cropped up ..... divets of loose gravel have appeared on high traffic spots of the walk way...and while it would be a stretch to call them pot holes...they are unsightly blemishes on this urban oasis.....especially considering it's only been a month since it opened to the public. we noticed there was some loose material on the walkway, because of the nature of this walkway it's a decompose granite it's not asphalt so you expect some loose material but there's more and some spaces then we like to see so we're working with the contractor to fix it in the short term and make sure that long-term it really holds up for the public

(catherine) in today's health minute, reid binion explains how seniors are getting in on the cannabis craze. baby boomers are putting down the crochet needles and picking up the pipe..the marijuana pipe, that is. according to a national survey on drug use and health, about nine percent of adults between 50 and 64 have used marijuana at least once during the 12- month survey period. and for adults over 65, about three percent. the study, published in the journal of drug and alcohol dependence, surveyed nearly 18-thousand adults across the country and found that the number of cannabis users has doubled over nearly a decade.one of the authors says that while marijuana use is gaining popularity with older americans, most aren't newbies when it comes to pot use or other substances. nearly 5 percent of middle-age marijuana users abused alcohol.. and 3-point-5 percent misused opioids.among older adults....1-point-5 percent abused alcohol ... and 1-point-2 percent misused opioids.for today's health mintue, i'm reid binion reporting.

(catherine) (catherine) space travel for the masses is on the horizon. and the champagne house 'mumm' says it's already planning how travelers might celebrate. it sounds like a joke - or just clever marketing...but the napa-based company is working to create champagne that's fit for zero gravity. for three years -- mumm has been perfecting the "cordon stellar",,, and predicts that people will be drinking it in the next five years - while surrounded by stars. a french astronaut was given the job of taste testing it - in a zero gravity simulation. the fizz comes out of the bottle as a foam that can be either caught in glasses or drunk straight out of the air..
