(grant) breaking news - at least four people have been hurt after a series of fires north of boston... authorities are blaming it on a natural gas issue.as many as 25 homes caught fire in the communities of lawrence, andover and north andover. there were at least 39 fires in total.gas crews are working to de-pressurize gas lines in the area. people there with homes serviced by columbia gas have been urged to evacuate. (catherine) the gunman's been identified as 54- year-old javier casarez...who targeted people at two locations. the kern county sheriff says one of his victims was his estranged wife... investigators -- still trying to figure out the connections to the other four people killed. they think casarez forced petra casarez to come with him to a trucking company where he shot a man....shot and killer her....then chased and killed a second man. the gunman then went to a house where he shot and killed another man and his adult daughter. he was eventually cornered at a friend's business after a carjacking..and killed himself after refusing to drop his gun. in body cam video...you can hear a deputy repeated asking him to do that..

fema has faced sharp criticism over it's response to hurricane maria last year.some lawmakers raised questions about the agency's ability to handle hurricane florence. senator thom tillis tells me he's confident fema is ready. at a time of crisis the last thing you do is cast doubt on your first responders, your law enforcement, or the emergency management who have their heart into it and are doing the best they can. fema says it prepositioned resources in north carolina and other impacted states. crews are also working with fedearl agencies to coordinate response efforts.tillis says lawmakers are keeping a close eye on the storm and are ready to provide emergency funding - if needed.in washington, brie jackson brie jackson

senate is expected to vote on a bipartisan package of more than 70 bills... designed to tackle the ongoing opioid crisis. kron 4's washington correspondent morgan wright reports some senators believe it doesn't go far enough to make the kind of impact america needs. it's all across the commonwealth. i have not yet found an area, a region, i'm not sure there's a neighborhood that has not been affected by this pennsylvania senator patrick toomey says he can't overstate how big of a problem the opioid epidemic is... but his bipartisan legislation could help provide relief... when somebody suffers from a non-fatal overdose - and that happens, those folks are now at a very high risk of a subsequent overdosesenator toomey is suggesting an addition to pending legislation that would monitor people at risk of drug abuse and overdose. would require people in that situation to be part of the
