( robin )happening today... the man accused of stabbing 18- year-old nia wilson to death will be in court.death will be in court. wilson was killed at the macarthur bart station back in july. police say john lee cowell attacked wilson and her sister. wilson's sister survived the attacked. cowell is charged with murder with special circumstances... meaning he could face the death penalty. he is expected to enter a plea this morning. to address sexual abuse within the catholic church... and they are asking victims to come forward. as kron 4's ali reid explains.. this is just one of several steps announced to tackle this disturbing issue. the bishop says there needs to be transparency in the way the catholic church responds to allegations of sexual abuse. pkgafter the recent revelations of horrific sexual abuse of minors by priests, and a systematic cover-up by bishops .... pennsylvania and the grand juries there exposed that what happened in pennsylvania happens in every diocese in the us..bishop patrick mcgrath wants to address clergy abuse in san jose ... and says there's a need for reform. he has begun consulting with "lay" and priest leaders of the diocese that will provide public accounts of abuse that has already happened and strengthen efforts to protect minors.initial steps include listening sessions over the next 6 weeks - focusing on input from members of the church community, and victims. by mid october ..... the names and status of every priest who has been found credibly accused of abuse .... will be released.in every instance it needs to be

( robin ) arrested a man for several counts of indecent exposure to children under 18-years-old. investigators say jordan cambray ma-dri-gal is the suspect. detectives investigated three cases in which the suspect contacted and exposed himself to exposed himself to girls.... they were ages 14, sixteen, and ages 14, sixteen, and seventeen. it happened

near yerba buena high school in san jose. he's now facing misdeameanor charges. crisis.. when police arrived they say warren was struggling with family members, they intervened and restrained him, during the struggle a taser was used. soon after warren ragudo became unresponsive, he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. the san mateo county district attorney's office says the autopsy report concluded ragudo died "as a result of cardiopulmonary arrest due to agitated delirium, physical exertion, prone restraint and stun gun applications while under the influence of methamphetamine toxicity." the district attorney said they conducted a thorough investigation and concluded that the use of the taser was justified and they are not seeking charges against the officers.a spokesperson for the daly city police department told me they have no comment at this time. in daly city gabe slate kron 4 news. national news... one person is dead after a series of explosions in massachusetts. (take vo) it happened yesterday afternoon in lawrence, andover and north andover. authorities say after a house exploded... and a chimney crashed into the man's car who died. nearly 40- homes and businesses were affected by the explosion and fires that it caused.(wipe vo) officials believe.. the explosions may be related to a gas service issue. things got so bad... the entire town of andover had to evacuate. the local utility there shut down all power in the three towns due to the problem. while the gas lines are being depressurized. at least six people were at least six people were injured by the fires and explosions. two of them are in critical condition. the city threatens to yellow tag the building. kron 4's sara stinson is live on mission street to tell us what work is being done right now to protect the public. sara? if they yellow tag the building, this battle could get messy and resdents wont be so happy. ( sara )right now crews are working under a tight deadline to install an overhead protection system - essentially a canopy - to protect all of us down here from falling glass or debris here at millennium tower.take vo:this comes after a glass window panel broke on the 36th floor about two weeks ago.a few days ago they used a drone to inspect the damage, but it crashed into building and nearly landed on people below. the city is now demanding the home owners association of the millenium tower to fix three

( robin )an update to a story we first brought you yesterday. police have identified a person of interest in that smash and grab sting. it happened in san francisco's alamo square district. inside edition reporter lisa guerrero did a story covering just how bad car break-in's are here in the bay area. to demonstrate she placed a tracking device inside her purse and speakers... that she purposely left inside her car. a man broke into the vehicle... stole the speakers... and passed the purse off to his accomplice. she was able to track both of them down and get her stuff back. s-f-p-d says this case is still under investigation... and if you have any other information to

( robin )san francisco police are looking for a woman they say... beat a 65-year-old man to death with cane. all in an argument over all in an argument over a sle of pizza. harvey grosser of san francisco died... nearly a week after he was struck with a metal cane. it happened in the south of market neighborhood. police say they have surveillance footage ... showing the woman hitting grosser. the attacker is still not under arrest. ( robin )a rohnert park man has been released from custody... after falling asleep at the wheel. 39-year-old ri-tesh pra-sad... was reportedly stopped in the middle of the road near lawrence middle school. authorities caught up with him yesterday morning around 9-15 a-m... and stopped him in the middle of the snyder lane... approaching rohnert park expressway. prasad was asleep, with his car still running and in gear. it was determined that he was under the influence of drugs. his bail was set at 10 thousand dollars.

francisco faced a traffic nightmare. this after a fire started inside an underground utility vault yesterday morning. it happened just before 10 a-m near spear and folsom streets... sending thick smoke into the air. residents nearby were told to stay inside while crews got a handle on the situation. the fire was contained within about 30 minutes... no word on what sparked it. ( robin ) also in san francisco... officers responded to two overdoses. it happened near golden gate and hyde in the tenderloin yesterday. they say neither victim was breathing. along with the fire department, they administered narcan and did cpr...thankfull y those people survived. tenderloin police say they have saved over 40 overdose patients so far this year. ( robin )democratic gu- bini-torial candidate gavin newsom's blue bus made a stop in the east bay. newsom traveled to lafayette yesterday. his appearance came just hours after former secretary of state condoleezza rice endorsed his republican opponent, john cox. cox's newest radio ad claims poverty and the high cost of living in california happened under newsom's leadership.... newsom says that's not true. cox and newsom are both up for debates. newsom even saying he's committed to doing one any time in october... but exactly when and if these two will face off... is still to be determined. unanimously to remove the "early days" statue... that's right by city hall. kron 4's justine waldman tells us what is next for the sculpture. standing between the asian art museum and the main library.. is the pioneer monument... it dates back to 1894... it displays the history of california.one part... early days.... depicts a native american at the feet of a spanish cowboy and a catholic missionary.sot a lot of hurt a lot of anger a lot of bad feelingsdee dee ybarra joined the efforts to remove the statue.she is with the ohlone tribe, and calls the statue racist and demeaning.sot why is the native on the ground why is he begging for mercy mari since the 90s we have been saying take it down take it been saying take it down take it been saying take it down take it been saying take it down take it downlast year, mari villaluna started a facebook group take down the pioneer statue.. .building on the momentum of confederate statues coming down across the country.after getting thousands of signatures on a petition, mari went to the arts commission to remove the

sculpture, which agreed.but a north bay lawyer appealed the decision.that kept the statue in place.and the battle went on...until wednesday, when the san francisco board of appeals voted unanimously for the statues removal.sot my child will never have to pass by that like i had to growing up in the city i think that is the best gift of allfor those who fought for decades to remove the statue... this win represents righting wrongs, and moving forward.sot today i feel like my ancestors are looking down upon me and i can hold my head up a little more the arts commission tells kron 4 news "early days" will now be restored and put in storage until officials decide what to do with it. though a museum in california, has expressed interest in sot not only do we need to take them down we need to start history and people need to start listening ( robin )for your health this morning... scientists say they've found a new way to help determine whether specific genetic abnormalities... are likely linked to making people sick. they are using genetic engineering to create thousands of tiny variations in a gene linked to breast cancer... and they tested each one in a lab to predict whether it would promote the

disease if it appeared in a person. the results came back positive... the technique is aimed at easing a frustrating problem in genetic testing-- where sometimes medical tests comeback with an a gene linked to a disease, but nobody knows whether it is dangerous or not. the results were published by the journal nature. ( robin )california's uninsured rate fell in 20-17. according to the u-s census bureau... it showed that 7- point-2 percent of californians lacked health insurance last year. and that's down from 7-point-3 percent in 20-16. the golden state has embraced former president barack obama's health care law and the state medi-cal program now covers one in three residents. the state has also expanded medi-cal to young people with low incomes who are living in the country illegally. the national uninsured rate is 8-point- 8 percent. ( robin ) facebook announced that it's expanding its fact checking... to include photos and videos. the

announcement was made yesterday. until now, most of the work by facebook's human fact-checkers was focused on text articles. just like for articles, a machine learning model will now flag photos and videos for potential inaccuracies. then - they'll be sent to human fact checkers for verification. facebook says its 27 partners in 17 nations will take part in the photo and video fact-checking. ( james ) the san jose diocese is now taking action to address sexual abuse within

the catholic church... and now it is asking victims to come forward. this comes after revelations of sexual abuse by catholic priests in pennsylvania. bishop patrick mcgrath wants to address clergy abuse in san jose ... and says there's a need for reform. he has begun consulting with priest leaders of the diocese that will provide public accounts of abuse that have already happened and strengthen efforts to protect minors. the san jose diocese plans to release the names and status of every priest in cases where there have been credible accusations of abuse. the diocese of san jose has also arranged for a former f-b-i executive assistant director and her firm to oversee an in- depth independent review of all records pertaining to sexual abuse. ( darya ) happening now... police in gilroy are looking for a man who exposed himself to to young girls who were walking home from school. the man was driving an older, gray 4-door sedan. he apporached the girls... exposed himself and demanded that they get in his car.

( darya ) a big story this morning... a teenager is dead... and 10 others are hurt after a series of explosions in massachusetts. almost 40 homes in 3 different towns were affected with blasts and fires... and it appears a gas line problem is to blame. an 18-year-old was killed after a house exploded... sending a chimney crashing into his car. this happened in lawrence, andover and north andover... that's an area about 30- minutes north of boston. the utility company there shutdown all power in the three towns because of the problem. the gas lines were then de- pressurized. ( james ) a suspected armed robber was arrested in south san francisco following at least 10 robberies at businesses in san mateo county. 28-year-old blake townsend was arrested after someone called the police saying the gas station on el camino real was being robbed. police say townsend went into the gas station with a mask on.. brandished a gun and demanded money. townsend fled the scene.. but officers were able to locate him shortly after and arrest him. ( james ) police in milbrae have arrested one juvenile and two adults for burlgary of a car after witnesses reported seeing them break into a car.. take a pack back and flee in another car. police located the car in a parking lot at the intersection of millbrae avenue and rollins road. all three were arrested without incident. the kern county sheriff says one of his victims was his ex-wife. they believe ex-wife. they believe javier casarez forced petra casarez to go with him to a trucking company where he shot a man.... shot and killer her....and then chased and killed a second man. casarez then went to a house where he shot and killed another man and his adult daughter. he was eventually cornered after a carjacking. he then killed himself after refusing to drop his gun. body camera video of the confrontation has been released. ( james ) a daly city family has filed a wriogful death lawsuit against the police department for the use of a taser on a family member. friends and family gathered at lincoln park to announce their lawsuit. warren ragudo died in january in his family home. that night the family called police because he was suffereing from a drug-induced mental crisis. induced mental crisis. when police arrived they say ragudo was struggling with family members. they intervened and restained him.. during the struggle a taser was used. ragudo became unresponsive and was transported to the hospital where he later died. the district attorney said after their investigation that the user of the taser was justifed and they are not seeking charges against the officers. ( darya ) in the south bay.... san jose police have arrested a man accused of exposing him to children. detectives say jordan cambray- madrigal exposed himself to 3 girls between the ages of 14 and 17. this happened at yerba buena high school. ( darya ) in san francisco... police carrying narcan may have saved lives. officers responded to two overdosed patients near golden gate and hyde in the tenderloin on wednesday. they say neither victim was breathing. along with the fire department... they administered narcan and c-p-r. the two people survived. police say they've saved more than 40 overdose patients so far this year. ( james ) the number of californians without health insurance is dropping. just over 7-percent of californians did not have health insurance last year. that's a slight drop from

( james ) happening today... the man accused of stabbing 18-year-old nia wilson to death will be in court. wilson was killed at the macarthur bart station back in july. police say john lee cowell attacked wilson and her sister. wilson's sister survived the attacked. cowell is charged with murder with special circumstances... meaning he could face the death penalty. he is expected to enter a plea this morning. ( james ) the san jose diocese is now taking action to address sexual abuse within the catholic church... and now it is asking victims to come forward. this comes after revelations of sexual abuse by catholic priests in pennsylvania. bishop patrick mcgrath wants to address clergy abuse in san jose ... and says there's a need for reform. he has begun consulting with priest leaders of the diocese that will provide public accounts of abuse that have already happened and strengthen efforts to protect minors. the san jose diocese plans to

than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) a suspected armed robber was arrested in south san francisco following at least 10 robberies at businesses in san mateo county. 28-year-old blake townsend was arrested after someone called the police saying the gas station on el camino real was being robbed. police say townsend went into the gas station with a mask on.. brandished a gun and demanded money. townsend fled the scene.. but officers were able to locate him shortly after and arrest him. ( james ) police in milbrae have arrested one juvenile and two adults for burlgary of a car after witnesses reported seeing them break into a car.. take a pack back and flee in another car. police located the car in a parking lot at the intersection of millbrae avenue and rollins road. all three were arrested without incident. ( james ) a daly city family has filed a wriogful death lawsuit against the police department for the use of a taser on a family member. friends and family

gathered at lincoln park to announce their lawsuit. warren ragudo died in january in his family home. that night the family called police because he was suffereing from a drug-induced mental crisis. when police arrived they say ragudo was struggling with family members. they intervened and restained him.. during the struggle a taser was used. ragudo became unresponsive and was transported to the hospital where he later died. the district attorney said after their investigation that the user of the taser was justifed and they are not seeking charges against the officers. ( james ) san francisco police are looking for a woman who they say beat a 65-year old man to death with a cane. and it was all over a slice of pizza. harvey grosser died nearly a week after he was hit with a metal cane. it happened in the south of market neighborhood. police say they have surveillance footage ... showing the woman hitting grosser. ( darya ) in the south bay.... san jose police have arrested a man accused of exposing him to children.

detectives say jordan cambray- madrigal exposed himself to 3 girls between the ages of 14 and 17. this happened at yerba buena high school. ( darya ) in san francisco... police carrying narcan may have saved lives. officers responded to two overdosed patients near golden gate and hyde in the tenderloin on wednesday. they say neither victim was breathing. along with the fire department... they administered narcan and c-p-r. the two people survived. police say they've saved more than 40 overdose patients so far this year.
