this morning leaving his maryland home and heading to the white house. he calls the allegations "completely false." both he and professor ford say they're willing to testifyto congress. that public hearing has been set for next monday. (catherine) breaking news tonight... two sacramento county sheriff's deputies... and a bystander have been shot. the suspect is in custody. the shooting happened this afternoon at a 'pep boys' auto parts store on a busy street in rancho cordova.. right outside sacramento. it's not clear yet what led to the shooting....or what condition the victims are in. we'll update you as soon as we get more information into the newsroom. (jr stone)(jr stone) another big story we're following includes a glimmer of hope for residents of a south bay homeless encampment -- known as "hope village." the camp was taken down early today only to be put up again nearby... and as kron four's rob fladeboe reports - there's an ongoing effort to find a long-term location. after setting up camp earlier this month on a parcel of state-owned land on ruff drive near the airport, the dozen or so homeless residents of "hope village" were to be evicted by 8 a.m. monday. four hours later, they had moved out and were allowed to pitch their tents just down the street at the local s.e.i.u. offices until a more

take a brutal toll on the southeast region of the country ... tornados in virginia killed one person today, adding to the storm's death toll. thirty=one people have died in the carolinas, many of them swept away by floodwaters over the weekend. (jr stone) you'll soon be getting a message on your phone from the president of the united states -- whether you are a supporter or not. fema is testing a new warning system. it was originally expected to be sent out this thursday... but fema has just delayed the message until october 3rd. the goal is to alert americans to emergencies -- like severe weather and missing children. most cell phone users will receive the alert. the message will be titled "presidential alert" but will indicate it is only a test of the national wireless emergency alert system. major cellphone carriers including at&t, verizon, and sprint will participate. fema will also test the emergency alert system on radio and television stations.

in san francisco finds that cable car conductors are failing to collect fares from nearly a quarter of their passengers... kron4's maureen kelly talked to a muni spokesperson who says that's actually an improvement. she joins us live from the hyde street cable car turnaround. maureen? (maureen) that's right (maureen) that's right catherine.....this isn't the first time the city's controller has sent auditors under cover on board the cable cars. and while the number of people getting on these national landmarks without paying is still pretty high....the number of fare evaders in this most recent

report is half that from the audit from last year. over the course of 12 months....city auditors got on board three cable car lines at different times of the day.in the 100-trips they took... this latest report found that cable car conductors failed to collect cash fares or require proof of payment from the auditors 24 times...along with an estimated 253 other riders on board . that translates to a loss of nearly $2-grand in revenue..but the number of fare evaders was more than double that in the previous audit from the year before..... when nearly 600 fares were not collected.muni spokesperson paul rose says with one operator manning the grips....that leaves one conductor to collect fares and keep an eye on everyone on the open air tourist attractions.... anytime we ask our operators to collect fares it takes away from their ability to provide information to passengers at the same time keep everyone safe as possible he says one reason the number of missed fares went down is because they are continuing to encourage passengers to pay in ways other than cash....like clipper cards and the muni mobile smart phone app.he expects to see a continued improvement if there are future audits ....since the transit agency is getting set to roll out a new pilot program by the end of this year that would make the cable cars fully cashless..... a program we're asking people to pay ahead of time. paying to board to cable car at some of the turnaround areas, before they get on to the vehicle to so we're taking that transaction of clicking fair is it money out of the equation those pre paid tickets will be able to purchased at kiosks....the pilot program is expected to be launched by december.....and the cashless system finalized in 2019. maureen kelly kron4 news

(jr stone) police in the south bay are looking for a woman connected to a pair of armed robberies. the robberies happened at a strip mall in san jose. the first happened on august 31st at branham dry cleaners. police say a young woman with a gun demanded money. then the next day.. officers say the same woman robbed a sushi restaurant next door to the cleaners. employees there say she employees there say she pointed a gun at the owner and his family

hillsborough. it happened near i-280 and butternut drive. the homeowners had been out on friday night... but when they returned home they heard their alarm going off. they then saw three men run across the driveway, jump over a fence, and take off in a dark colored 2015 honda sedan with paper plates. police say the suspects got into the house through an unlocked door. officers are reviewing surveillance video. (catherine) in the east bay... the martinez city council could give final approval this week to open the city's first medical marijuana dispensary. it would be called "firefly". it's next to a gym called "power endurance training"... some are opposing the dispensary - arguing that kids attend the gym. the planning commission already determined in july... that power endurance training did not qualify as a "youth center," despite the owners' claims that 95-percent of the clients are younger than 18. the city council will make a final decision wednesday night. "there's a bipartisan sense of urgency here."senator lamar alexander sponsored the legislation, which includes a push for research to develop a non-addictive painkiller. it also gives the fda authority to require certain packaging for opioids. blister packs -- like a zpack for antibiotics, so you could only get it in packages of 3 or 7the bipartisan package is made up of provisions from more than 70 different lawmakers. senator tammy baldwin worked to give local officials more flexibility in how they use federal funding to fight addiction."if we tie the hands of local officials to only providing narcotic
