( robin ) a big story this morning... after a bay area professor accused nominee judge kavanuagh of sexual assault at a party in the early 1980's. the justice department says the sexual assault allegation from christine blasey ford, "does not involve any potential federal crime for the fbi to investigate. legal experts say this all comes down to credibility... and in the end, this new information could derail judge kavanaugh's supreme court nomination. former prosecutor and defense attorney steven clark says the accusation against judge kavanugh made by college professor christine blasey ford is a serious one.

call in the senate anyway, but now it is about whether he was candid, and it could be grounds to not support the nomination. if this were occur today if would have been felony sexual assault.>( robin ) kavanaugh ( robin ) kavanaugh is denying the accusations... saying he was never even at the party where ford says she was assaulted. he calls the allegations "completely false." both he and professor ford say they're willing to testifyto congress. that public hearing has been set for next monday. and trapped hundreds more. forecasters say the worst flooding is yet to come. officials say the rivers won't crest for days. in lumberton north carolina.. residents are bracing for the worst as the lumber river levee teters on failure. florence has weakened.. but has moved northward.. causing concern for virginia. at least 12 tornadoes were reported in virginia yesterday. this is video of a tornado tearing the roof off a building in midlothian... about 14 miles west of richmond. one person was killed after a tornado collapsed on a building in chesterfield county. ( robin ) new this morning... police in oakland are investigating a shooting. it happened just before 8:30 last night in the 1-thousand block of aileen street. one man was shot. he's now hospitalized in stable condition. ( robin ) happening today in the north bay... trial begins for the man accused of kidnapping and sexually

assautling a 13-year old girl. timothy marble is accused of picking up the girl at a napa gas station ... after she ran away from home. investigators say the two stopped to smoke pot and that's when marble tied the child to a tree and assaulted her. the victim was able to escape when police say she jumped out of his car. ( robin ) in the east bay... a 10 year old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car in brentwood. police say it happened at balfour road and guise way. they say the girl was in the crosswalk when she was hit. she was flown to u-c davis medical center. the driver is cooperating with police... and they did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. ( robin ) three antioch high school students were hit by cars... in two different crashes that happened about an hour apart. the first crash was a hit-and-run in front of the school... that

happened just after 7 yesterday morning. police say a girl was hit by this s-u-v... a toyota 4- runner. the student was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. police are looking for the driver of the 4-runner. if you have information... you are asked to call police. a second crash happened less than an hour later. two students suffered minor injuries... after being hit while crossing the street in the same area. that driver stayed and cooperated with police. officers say speed was not a factor.... neither were drugs or alcohol. ( robin ) a 27-year-old sacramento county deputy died monday after a shoot-out at an automotive store. another deputy shot in the incident survived.. as sonseeahray tonsall reports, nearby witnesses who heard the shots are shaken. it's the kind of day law enforcement dreads.responding to someone else's emergency and finding themselves in one of their own.sheriff scott

jones/sacramento co. sheriff's office"i can tell you that the fatal round was not in the vest."sacramento county sheriff's deputy mark stasyuk, on the force for 4 and a half years, died after coming to sort out some kind of fight inside a rancho cordova pep boys store.a few feet from his front door, steven green found himself just a retaining wall away from the barrage of bullets that took stasyuk's life.steven green/heard shots "we were gonna make the turn, then the employee said 'don't go down there, don't go down there.' as we're ready to make the turn, you can hear 'pop, pop, pop, pop, pop' and then it stopped for a few seconds. but the last time was rapid fire, just like that, really quick."when she heard those sounds, natalie lane says she flinched while sorting mail across the street at the post office.natalie lane/heard shots "very scary, very scary. very nervous still."the bullets fired at pep boys and in a neighboring parking lot hit stasyuk just before two in the afternoon.his fellow deputies confirmed the 27 year old died about 3 hours later.28 year

sotsotc-h-p investigators say this appears to be an isolated incident brought on by the traffic accident between these two vehicles. anyone one with information can contact the c-h-p's ( robin ) in the east bay... the oakland city council has approved new a ordinance on dockless scooters. dockless scooters are available at various locations for people to use. but if placed incorrectly... they can block wheelchairs and clutter sidewalks. the ordinance will require designated locations for dockless scooters. it will also include a discounted membership plan for those who are low-income. ( robin ) u-n plaza in san francisco... which is next to city hall and the civic center bart station... has long been a hot-bed of criminal activity... san francisco police are trying to curb crime at un plaza by parking

restrained and tied-up. rebecca anderson was arrested on saturday after officers searched the daycare she ran out of her house. police say they received a complaint involving anderson about how she physically handled the infants and toddlers at her daycare. police searched her home after anderson was caught on a hidden camera possibly abusing a baby in a car. neighbors say they sometimes heard children screaming in anderson's house. ( robin ) ( robin ) students and parents at clayton valley charter high school were put on alert monday... after a threat was found on social media. the threat was apparently made on twitter this past weekend, but the school did not find out about it right away. kron 4's charles clifford has details. well, over the

weekend someone on twitter said they wanted to shoot up the school. but it's not clear which school they were referring to, even so students here at clayton valley charter high school saw the tweet and were talking about it online. according to clayton valley charter high school staff, they became aware of the possible threat on monday morning and an email was sent to students, staff and parents by 9am. all classes and practices were held as schedueled but as a precaution, the school requested assistance from the concord police department and officers were on campus throughout the day.at this point it's unclear who might have made the original threat or why.monday afternoon, parents waiting to pick up their kids were aware of the threat but not overly concerened.soti think it's today's problem that there's a lot of people who have access to social media and sometimes they spread things that probably shouldn't be spread and cause hysteria.sotmy daughter and i communicated and she asked me if i had read the email. i said yes and i said are you ok? she said yes and there are cops on campus so i feel fine.sotwhat should i do? take my son out of school? that's not the solution. we have to inform kids what's proper behavior simliar threat was made against pittsburg high school

( robin )( robin )( robin )( robin ) ( robin ) police in lviermore are investigatng an aparent threat made to livermore high school. officials say they were contacted by adminsitrators saying a suspicious note that alleged a direct threat to the school... was found. livemore police have assinged extra offficers to the campus... and are asking for anyone with information to call them. ( robin ) berkeley police are putting undercover officers in cafes citywide in response to an ongoing series of laptop thefts and robberies. they say you should always be aware of your surroundings.. do not leave vauables unattended and consider using a locking device to secure property to

( robin ) stanford university is dropping the name of a controversial 18-th century spanish catholic priest named - junipero serra ... from two dormitories ... from two dormitories and its mailing address. serra was the founder of california's missions and it is easy to spot his name on this stanford dorm... and on a stanford office building.. the reason... is because of the mission system's treatment of native americans.. which many say was violent. the students we talked too... support the move.(sot)

anymore given the complicatied history.>( robin ) serra street on campus... will retain its name ( robin ) the sacramento family that was tied up and robbed in their home is now speaking out. the suspects were caught on camera. it happened august second in rio linda. seven people were inside, and they were all tied up with zip ties. 10 year-old eblin vargas says, she watched the robbers beat up her mother. "they hit her a bunch of times right here and they pointed the gun at her."( robin ) the robbers did escape. but police are hoping surveillance video will help someone recognize them. ( robin ) los angeles police are looking for a man involved in brutal attack on three homeless men with a baseball bat. that attack left the men unconscious and in critical condition. the attacks happened sunday around 4-30 in the morning at two locations in downtown l-a. police say the attacker approached the sleeping men

( robin ) it took two presidential procalmations to officially recognize hispanic heritage month. as our washington correspondent alexandra limon reports... the celebration endures even though there is political turmoil. hispanic heritage month celebrates the culture and contributions of hispanics to the united states of america. rafael medina / center for american progressit has been in place since lyndon b

( robin ) ( robin ) there is new hope for residents of a south bay homeless encampment...k nown as "hope village" the camp was taken down yesterday but put up again nearby. and now there's an ongoing effort to find a long-term location. the homeless residents of "hope village" were evicted at 8-a-m. four hours later...they had moved out. they were allowed to pitch their tents just down the street at the local s-e-i-u offices. now county supervisor dave cortese says they are looking for a more permanent solution.

organizing....">( robin ) the county has offered to lease a parcel of city-owned land just north of the latest camp site. terms would include just one camp with a limited number of residents for an 18-month test to see if the model can be replicated. ( robin ) for your money...president donald trump is moving ahead with controversial tariffs on china. analysts fear .... this action will trigger a trade war. yesterday the trump administration announced the u-s will impose a 10-percent tariff later this month on 200- billion dollars worth of chinese goods. that will increase to 25- percent by the end of the year. these tariffs are in addition to penalties enacted earlier this year on 50 - billion dollars worth of chinese goods. the new round of american tariffs takes effect september 24th. ( robin ) a new city audit has found that cable car conductors in san francisco are failing to collect fares from nearly a quarter of

passengers getting on board. kron4's maureen kelly talked to a muni spokesperson who says this is actually an improvement. over the course of 12 months....city auditors got on board three cable car lines at different times of the day.in the 100-trips they took... this latest report found that cable car conductors failed to collect cash fares or require proof of payment from the auditors 24 times...along with an estimated 253 other riders on board . that translates to a loss of nearly $2-grand in revenue..but the number of fare evaders was more than double that in the previous audit from the year before..... when nearly 600 fares were not collected.muni spokesperson paul rose says with one operator manning the grips....that leaves one conductor to collect fares and keep an eye on everyone on the open air tourist attractions.... anytime we ask our operators to collect fares it takes away from their ability to provide information to passengers at the same time

be a young peron's activity... but there are plenty of opportunities for older athletes to get back into the game. al alt has been playing baseball for 65 years.. he turns 73 in february. alt's wife says he plays 3 to 4 times a week at least. he plays in both a 55 and over league and a 62 and over league. alt says he still plays because he loves the game.. and the competition adding he's always been competitive. when alt was 65 he set a goal to play 65 games.. he played 150 winning 100. when he was 70 he pitched five games.. including the championship in the senior world series in arizona. that year he was m-v-p and most outstanding

san francisco finds that cable car conductors are failing to collect fares from nearly 25- percent of passengers. over the last year... city auditors got on board three cable car lines at different times of the day. in the 100-trips they took... cable car conductors failed to collect cash fares or require proof of payment from the auditors 24 times. ábut the number of fare evaders was more than ádouble that in the previous audit. officials hope the numbers will keep dropping... as they move to a cashless system. ( james ) those pre-paid tickets will be able to be purchased at kiosks. the pilot program is expected to be launched by december and the cashless system finalized in 2019.
