5... a student in the east bay has been arrested...after being accused of hackinginto a social media account and posting a threat against diablo view middle school in clayton. hello i'm catherine heenan. (jr stone) and i'm j-r stone. grant and vicki have the night off. the student was arrested at their home this morning-- and booked into juvenille hall for making criminal threats. kron four's philippe djegal talked with students and parents who took the threat seriously. ... (philippe) a patrol car parked out front... and, clayton police officers monitoring the campus causing high tension and anxiety. jasmine lopez/student- "i was pretty scared being in class, you know. everybody scared, not knowing what to do -- wondering, looking out the windows." 12-year-old jazmine lopez had her mother doly pick her up early from diablo view middle school tuesday.jasmine lopez/student- "(philippe) how many periods did you make it through? (jazmine) made it through four." her mother had no problem taking her out of class. monday night... the school's principal notified families in a robocall that a threat was made against the school on snapchat and instagram. and, that officers would be on-campus tuesday to ensure

nothing happened.doly quigley/jazmine's mother- "early morning, there were like a few ot them on every single corner." lopez says that in one of her classes... only seven out of 30 students showed up... and, that's when she realized it was time to go home.melinda cark/student- "in my first period class there were only about 13 kids. (philippe) and, how many are usually in there? (melinda) 30." just before noon... the clayton police department announced that the student who allegedly hacked the social media accounts to make the threat was arrested at their home. they were booked into juvenile hall for identity theft and making criminal threats.ferd santos/parents- "we have to be aware of kids and families that might need help. there's a reason why they act out this way -- cause they need some help." the students we spoke with say they intend to attend class wednesday. in clayton, philippe djegal, kron four news. high school. extra officers were on patrol.. and a threat was posted on social media... targeting clayton valley charter high school yesterday. last week - pittsburg high school was threatened... but police eventually determined the threat was not credible. (jr stone) happening now... police are looking for this man-- after they say the inmate walked away from a minimum-security camp in nevada county. they say he could be heading to the bay area. the man is identified as justin ty- quieng-co. he's an inmate at the washington ridge conservation camp.... he was discovered missing around 5:30 this morning. he's serving a six-year sentence for second degree armed robbery. police are asking anyone with information to contact them. (catherine) the san jose airport has a history of security problems, with at least a half dozen people who didn't belong there -- getting onto the airfield... now the federal government is paying out millionsof dollars so the airport can

the stage is set for what is expected to be a heated city council meeting in the south bay community of cupertino. at issue is how to re-develop the long-defunct vallco shopping mall. kron four's rob fladeboe brings us up to date on the story. he's live now from cupertino. rob? (rob live) there are still a handful of businesses still open here at vallco but for all practical prposes the mall has been more or less vacant for years now. thebig question for the city council is what a major new renovation would look like and what impact it's going to have on the community. for now there are three plans on the table for how to resurrect the vallco mall here on wolfe road in cupertino. all three promise a mix of sorely needed housing. these are renderings of a plan proposed by developer sand hill properties, which includes 2,000 units of housing, half of which would be deemed affordable, aong with 2 million feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of retail. if approved, the

plan would be a test case for senate bill 35, which forces cities to greenlight projects that meet certain requirements says sand hill's reed moulds. reed moulds/sand hill properties "....tonight is about vision, about the city's vision, if that vision is in the city's best interest to takeadvantage of the opportunity to get not only more affordable housing and all sorts of community benefits that we're all working together to create than that could be the case..." the city council will also consider two alternative plans. one has more retail but fewer homes and cuts office space in half. the other has more homes, a bit more retail and less office space. critics say all three plans will mean more traffic and congestion says liang chao of the group better cupertino.liang chao/better cupertino "....we love cupertino and we want pertino residents to enjoy it as it is today, we don't want em to come in and ruin it with a huge project that doesnt fit in a small community with no transit...." the city council is in a tough spot. if they approve either of the alternative plans, better cupertino may take the plan to voters. at the same time, sand hill would be free to move ahead with it's plan under sb-35.

this very big cat was discovered walking in front of a home here on 37th avenue in san mateo.... take a look at this incredible video... the mountain lion just casually walked by a neighbors home... andy gomez says it was in teh morning - when he checked his surveillance camera on a whim. and there right in front of him was the big cat. he says - this is not the first time he has laid eyes on such an animal in his neighborhood... and now he wants others to beware. buildings. president trump is scheduled to travel to north carolina tomorrow and get a firsthand look at the impact of the storm. he talked about the hurricane today. "i just got some clips of some of the things the coast guard is doing, and getting people to safety in horrible conditions. i wanna just salute all the people working so hard."(catherine) the hurricane is being blamed for at least 34 deaths in three states. florence is now a post-tropical cyclone-- but is still dumping lots of rain. the national weather service warns that even when the rain stops - thewater will continue to rush downstream, causing historic river flooding. officers into cafes in an effort to crack down on laptop thefts. now that the university is back in session - the crimes are on another upswing. kron4's maureen kelly has the story.. this is what they are trying to prevent. a crime that happens quickly....and repeatedly.....theives snatching laptops from tabletops of unsuspecting customers.berkeley pd says they are seeing an average of 2-3 of these crimes a week now that cal students are back on campus. there's an influx of people who may not be familiar with the area, the students coming in freshman and they're a lot more electronic devices out there that can be stolen from people we don't want that to happenthe crime ranges from a simple snatch and grab....but sometimes it can turn more serious... i remember one case recently where are young woman had her phone stolen and she almost ended up getting run over by a car that's not something we don't want to seepolice say in addition to being aware of your surroundings and not leaving your devices unattended....they suggest not sitting with your laptop by the exit...since it's a quick getaway for a theif....other tips involve technology. if your device has some sort of

for companies who rent out scooters to people in oakland. (catherine) after a lot of complaints - the city council easily passed some new regulations. kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us now with more on the new rules... ryan? people in oakland were complaining some of the riders of these electric 'stand-up' scooters were getting a little too wild, a litle too reckless... and on top of that... saying they've seen the scooters left scattered on sidewalks and roadways... in people's way. we're told the new ordinance, passed last night by the city council, will provide some responsible guidelines for scooter companies wanting to do business in oakland. for example... the council requires liability insurance, after people have complained about damaged vehicles. areas where these 'dockless' scooters can be deployed must be approved... and they must include areas considered to be "communities of concern," with high populations of minority and or low-income residents. and... they must create a low-income membership... so everyone can enjoy them.

(catherine) extra officers were on campus at an east bay high school today... after a threat was made against the school. kron 4's will tran has the details from livermore high school. livermore police were on campus long before many students and administrators even showed up.the school district says in this day and age there's really no such thing as over reacting(kelly bowers/school superintendent- seem like some sort of activity, some threat so we shared it with the police and although they didn't feel it was credible we do feel we have a duty and an obligation to share it with the parents) the threatening note was found in the girl's bathroom around 1145 monday morning.the police were immediately called in to investigate while administrators decided what to do.they decided to continue with classes yesterday and today.parents dropping off

(catherine) the west nile virus has made its way to the north bay. in solano county - a mosquito in vacaville recently tested positive for the virus. california health officials say two people have died because of virus so far this year....and 56 people have been infected. . people are being reminded to use insect repellent when spending time outdoors. also to remove standing water - to help prevent the spread of the virus. (jr stone) on the peninsula... police in palo alto are looking for a man after they say he mugged a mother and her daughter over the weekend. police just releasing this sketch. they say the man ran at the woman and knocked her and her daughter to the ground... then stole the woman's purse. the man then took off in a red sedan being driven by a second man. neither of the victims were seriously injured. the woman described the

(catherine) it's caught the attention of an equal right's group, that's now joined the fight. kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us in the studio with more....ryan? the a-c-l-u is claiming 10 companies have placed ads on facebook that violate federal and state discrimination laws... saying some 'ad changes' facebook recently made to prevent discrimination... didn't extend to gender. the complaint was filed on behalf of 3 women from pennsylvania, ohio and illinois... saying they weren't shown job openings from traditionally male-dominated fields, even though they appeared to qualify for them. the jobs were for a tire salesman,

mechanic, roofing worker and security engineer. facebook users can click on "why am i seeing this," ad... to get a drop-down menu about its target audience. and it's that audience, the a-c-l-u says, that discriminates against certain people. facebook has responded to this complaint... stating there is "no place for discrimination" on its platform and it will defend its practices once it can review the complaint. j-r, catherine. authors of a new study on infant walkers want them off the market. the study, published in the journal pediatrics, found between 1990 and 2014, more than 230-thousand children under the age of 15 months were treated for injuries linked to walkers. that's an average of more than 9- thousand a year. more than 90 percent of the incidents involved head and neck injuries... while 74 percent were injured falling down the stairs when using an infant walker. stake tonight .... amid expected action by the cupertino city council. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the council is considering three options for the long -awaited renovation of the old vallco shopping center. for now there are three plans on the table for how to resurrect the vallco mall here on wolfe road in cupertino. all three promise a mix of sorely needed housing. these are renderings of a plan proposed by developer sand hill properties, which includes 2,000 units of housing, half of which would be deemed affordable, aong with 2 million feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of retail. if approved, the

tesla is now facing a criminal probe because of some tweets that were sent out by its c-e-o. the department of justice is investigating.... after elon musk talked about moving the company to the private sector. kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us with more on what the feds are looking in to. here's the tweet in question... and it went out last month. musk, saying he's considering taking his company private... saying "funding secured." this idea of his... caught the attention of both the securities and exchange commission and the d-o-j... prompting them to work together and launch and investigation into the legality of how musk announced the plan to go private and whether or not he properly notified the company's investors of how statements like that would be made ahead of time. tesla says the feds have requested documents from the company last month and they have complied.

tonight. california has filed a lawsuit against pharmacutial giant "abbvie" that accuses them of bribing doctors to prescribe their medications. the suit, filed today... accuses the company of giving kickbacks to doctors... including cash... gifts... and services... in exchange for prescribing one of the world's best selling drugs, humira... despite its potentially deadly side effects. humira is an anti inflamatory drug typically prescribed for things like rheumatoid arthritis. it comes with a warning that the drug may cause cancer or serious infections that can lead to death. abbvie says the allegations are false. people from more than a dozen states and seven countries came together to view new portraits of the 58 victims killed almost a year ago at the route 91 harvest festival.
