"nobody ever told me what i should do if someone broke into my home in the middle of the knife and held a knife to my neck and told me to get up and go with them." police combed the woods near her salt lake city home.her parents appealed for her return and offered a quarter million dollar reward.they flooded the media with images of the youing girlnine months later she was found with brian david mitchell and wand barzee just a few miles from

her home smart told police she's been drugged and repeatedly assaulted. "i was raped every single day. sometimes twice a day. and it was every bit as horrifici as you can imagine" mitchell is serving a life sentence in federal prison. barzee was supposed to be in custody until 2024, but her lawyer argued successfully that she hadn't been correctly credited with all her time served.smart objected, calling barzee the most evil woman on earth. "do i believe that she is dangerous, yes, but not just to me....i believe that she is a danger and a threat to any vulnerable person in our community, which is why our community should be worried." barzee's attorney says her release comes with struct supervision.

erupted in july in lake county. the wildfires scorched 720 square miles. 157 homes were destroyed and a firefighter was killed battling the fire. officials say more than 400 firefighters remain in the area, doing repair work to prevent erosion and monitoring spots that continue to burn. the blazes prompted the evacuation of thousands of people in mendocino, lake, colusa and glenn counties. the smaller of the two blazes was fully contained on august 14... but the larger "ranch fire" continued to burn in the mendocino national forest. officials have no yet determined a cause. (catherine) you've probably seen themparked along side-streets in communities across the bay area.. and there are more of them every day -- homeless people living in r-v's, sometimes riling neighbors and dodging police. now, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports, partly out of concern for

their safety -- one city is taking action. estimates vary, but there are at least fifty rv's parked here on bay road in east palo alto on any given night. amid complaints about unsanitary conditions the city is taking action. this city-owned parking lot, also on bay road, will soon be made available to homeless residents who are living on the streets in rv's says mayor ruben abrica.ruben abrica/east palo alto mayor "...it wont help everybody but we have t start somewhere and if we don't do something it's going to get more and more problematic..."with space for at least two dozen rv's, with bathrooms and security, the safe haven parking lot will be limited to residents whose rv's are licensed, insured and functional. it will be managed by the non-profit "project we hope" and pastor paul bains.pastor paul bains/project we hope "....we are looking to address the problem of rv dwellers not having a place to park their vehicles safely and then get them out of their rv's and onto the road of self sufficiency is the ultimate goal..."the plan could lead to a softening of parking restrictions for rv's, some of which have been evicted from

when responding to such emergencies as car accidents, hazardous material cases, and illegal fires. the east contra costa fire prtoection district covers 250 square miles, 120 thousand residents and eight thousand calls a year... i spoke with the chief about what his district is facing, and how they are trying to deal with this problem. (take sot/vo) chief brian helmick, east contra costa fire protection district. we have a very large area, a study said we need 9 fire departemtns we have 3. we are not trying to nickle and dime, we are trying to serve the needs. so we will charge the fees to the insurance companies when it is necessary. (jr stone) a big story tonight.. a multi-million dollar judgement given to a former school groundskeeper is now in the hands of a san francisco judge.(catherine) a jury awarded the money after finding the weed killer, round-up, left him dying with cancer. kron4's ryan o'donnell is back - with more on what the judge now has to decide.. the jury awarded dewayne johnson close 289-million dollars last month... after the lawsuit went to court. but the parent company, monsanto, is appealing the case... filing court documents stating johnson failed ot prove round-up or similar herbicides caused his non- hodgkin's lymphoma... asking the judge to either overturn the jury's decision or order a new trial. as a school grounds-keeper, johnson says he used round-up a lot to kill weeds in and around the

(jr stone) in the east bay... police have arrested 4 teens... for threatening pittsburg high school. the threats were made through social media posts. three of the teens are pittsburg high students.

tonight... we know breathing polluted air is bad for you... but a new study shows it may be killing your brain. researchers in london discovered people living in the most polluted areas of the city were 40 percent more likely to be diagnosed with dementia. this study has similar findings to a canadian study that looked at people living near major roadways .... ááand a chinese study linking pollution to reduced cognitive performance. dementia is the seventh leading cause of death in the world. shows some of the fees, first responders will now charge when responding to such emergencies as car accidents, hazardous material cases, and illegal fires. the east contra costa fire prtoection district covers 250 square miles, 120 thousand residents and eight thousand calls a year... i spoke with the chief about what his district is facing, and how they are trying to deal with this problem. (take sot/vo) chief brian helmick, east contra costa fire protection district. we have a very large area, a study said we need 9 fire departemtns we have 3. we are not trying to nickle and dime, we are trying to serve the needs. so we will charge the fees to the insurance companies when it is necessary. (continue vo) here is a look again, at that newly passed few schedule.... for motor vehice accidents, the fee ranges from 487 to 677 per incident. hazardous materials cases, 724-6,608illegal fires, 448-560 per incident. plus there could be add ons... such as extracation, 1,461 and creating a landing zone for a helicopter, 448. this situation is not unique, currently the contra costa fire protection district charges first responder fees. that are similiar in pricing. san ramon fire protection district, is another agency that fee assessment. the chief says, they did this in lieu of raising a parcel tax... so it is a compromise... and it could be readjusted. could go into effect as early as november 1st. here in brentwood, te (jrstone) empty

(landvo) it's problem that is festering in communities across the bay area. rv's, many of them homes for people who can't afford housing, are parking illegally on city streets. now, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports, one city is taking action. estimates vary, but there are at least fifty rv's parked here on bay road in east palo alto on any given night. amid complaints about unsanitary conditions the city is taking action. this city-owned parking lot, also on bay road, will soon be made available to homeless residents who are living on the streets in rv's says mayor ruben abrica.ruben abrica/east palo alto mayor "...it wont help everybody but we have t start somewhere and if we don't do something it's going to get more and more problematic..."with space for at least two dozen rv's, with bathrooms and security, the safe haven parking lot will be limited to residents whose

seaworld, and one of its former c-e-o's, has reached a five- million dollar plus settlement.... in a federal fraud investigation. the securities and exchange commission accused the company of misleading investors about the business impact .... of the 20-14 c-n-n documentary called - "blackfish." the film presented a very critical examination of the treatment of killer whales at seaworld. the s-e-c says, for roughly a year, seaworld made quote - "untrue and misleading statements or omissions" - about the film's impact on the business. the settlement requires the company to pay a four- million penalty... former c-e-o james atchison will pay more than one- million dollars. neither he nor the company admit or deny the allegations.
