year-old east palo alto man... in connection with a violent attack on a woman in menlo park this week. prosecutors say the woman was jogging when the suspect began following her... she screamed for helped her escape. kron 4's gayle ong has the details. investigators say just before five monday afternoon,a woman was jogging in this quiet neighborhood in menlo park, when this man began following her from behind ,she ignored the man and continued to run, he then followed her..the woman dialed 9-1-1..investigators say that's when the suspect 19- year-old rogelio artiga grabbed her from behind, and pulled her into the bushes where he tried to sexually sault herthe victim was able to break freesan mateo district attorney steve

given a statement to police. but at this point, we don't yet know a motive for this attack.the fremont police department says that this man, 28 year old zekria joyaa is in custody facing felony counts of mayhem and attempted murder. joyaa is accused of using a machete like weapon to attack this man, john mosley. the attack is alleged to have occured sunday morning here in the 3000 block of rockett drive in fremont. officers responding to a 911 call for help found the victim bleeding and suffering from multiple lacerations to his hands, face, torso and neck. according to mosley's daughter, who was home at the time, the suspect had assaulted her father without warning.before being taken to the hospital, mosley was able to tell police that he was attacked by a neighbor. upon further investigation, joyaa was found in nearby union city at his brother's house. he was taken into custody and allegedly told police that he had blacked out and doesn't remember attacking mosley. meanwhile, john mosley's injuries are said to be signifigant, but he is expected to survive. he could possibly lose sight in one eye. his family has set up a gofundme page to help raise money for his medical expenses. joyaa meanwhile is being held without bail and is scheduled to enter a plea in court next week.anyone with

( robin )six more woman have come forward accusing a newport beach surgeon and his girlfriend... of drugging and sexually assaulting them. this morning... prosecutors say there could be hundreds of victims. that's because more than 1- thousand videos and pictures of these alleged acts.... were found on the surgeons cell phone.. according to police. officials also say, they started investigating this case... because one of the victims became conscious during an attack, and starting screaming while in his apartment. police say, the couple went to bars and music festivals across the west coast to target victims. he faces nine felony charges inclduing rape by use of drugs along with several other charges. his girlfriend also facing several charges. if convicted, they could get

( robin )more than one-third of california's d-m-v offices were crippled by a computer outage. it happened yesterday. the d-m-v blamed the outage on a "router issue". as a result, offices were unable to process driver's license and vehicle registration matters. it was discovered around 7 or 8 a-m.. but was resolved a few hours later. the d-m-v has been under scrutiny amid a rapid spike in wait times. the agency also botched about 23-thousand voter registrations under a new state law... that lets people update their voter information in conjunction with their driving records. ( robin )california moves further away from plastic products with a new law. governor jerry brown passed a bill yesterday that restricts the use of plastic straws at restaurants statewide. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the details. a statewide move away from the use of plastic straws...a new bill signed by governor jerry

brown thursday. says all full service restaurants can only give them out of a customer specifically asks for one. a change that both restaurant owners and customers we talked to say.. is a good idea greg patton/customerwhy not? i mean you don't really need a straw in most cases, it doesn't make a difference whether if you have a straw in your drink or you don't have a straw in your drink, there are other alternative choices to having a plastic straw also. arash ghasemi/chef owner, main street kitchen and bari think it's fantastic. i really believe in it. and it's the same thing with water. we don't like to pour a glass of water for them unless they ask for it. arash ghasemi is chef and owner at main street kitchen and bar.. the restaurant uses 100 percent compostable straws and to-go containers.. he says.. he's been operating green for years.. and is happy the law is catching up. arash ghasemi/chef owner, main street kitchen and bari remember it was really hard to get those compostable stuff and we had to order them and

they used to ship it from oregon. it got much better. the quality is better now. there are still little bit of issues here and there. but much better and the prices are more reasonable now. ghasemi tells me.. they are still about 4 times the cost of plastic straws.. but he says... they're worth the benfits to the environment. some people have argued against the bill saying.. people with particular disabilities need them.. but people we talked to say.. there are better alternatives. greg patton/customerif you have a particular segment of the population that needs this for a specific reason, you could have reusable straws. it could be metal straws. i've heard of bamboo straws. ( robin ) 4 your money this morning... wells fargo is expected to cut more than 26-thousand jobs over the next three years. c-e-o tim sloan made that announcement yesterday. he says it's happening because of changing customer preferences...including a spike in online banking. wells fargo has also been dealing with a string of scandals... including the creation of millions of fake bank accounts... and forcing clients to buy car insurance they didn't need. the bank also announced earlier this year, it plans to shut down 800 branches by year 20-20. ( robin )amazon wants its voice assitant to be everywhere and apart of everything you do. therefore, the company unveiled several gadgets that will help by let you control the basic tasks, all by voice. the new products include an amazon microwave that can

be told to defrost peas or reheat coffee. there's also a new echo for cars that can be asked to play podcasts, give driving directions, or make a call. amazon is also revealing a redesign of its hockey puck-shaped echo dot, saying it's now louder. say a stand-off between officers and an armed man ended -- without any shots being fired. in fact... the person gave-up without a struggle. police are crediting a new policy designed to keep dangerous situations from escalating. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. perimeter oakland police searched for a rifle. no firearm was found. in oakland haaziq madyun kron4news ( robin ) in national news... a shooting in maryland just north of baltimore left at least 4 people dead at a rite aid diribution center it happened yesterday morning. police say the shooter was a 26- year-old temp worker... who used a handgun to carry out her attack. police also confirmed the shooter eventually shot and killed herself. no shots were fired by officers responding to the scene. investigators are now trying to figure out why she opened fire.

to establish a timeline but at this time what we know is that the suspect was a temporary employee. she reported to her work day as usual and around 9am she shooting began. we do not at this time have a motive r this senseless crime.">( robin ) one source says the woman was a disgruntled employee. federal authorities are joining the investigation. ( robin ) a los angeles charter school was put on lockdown - becauseof a near-by shooting. it happened at around noon yesterday near the 'charter high of the arts, multimedia, and performing school' -- police say the shooting didn't happen inside the school. but at least two people were injured -- and two suspects ran from the scene. mission district that was repeatedly vandalized .... has been restored and revamped. kron4's maureen kelly talked to one of the artists behind the mural... he explains how a change in the design... has been sucessfully warding off taggers. he has a crack in his ear, but it's protected it's all good carlos kookie gonzlez is checking out his recently updated mural....now it's centerpieces are civil rights leaders cesar chavez and dolores huerta....but that wasn't always the case.when he first helped create it back in the 80's...it was simply snapshots of people in the neighborhood.this is my best

friend johnny's mom and big sister when she was a baby. then 10 years later i the now retired probation officer added cultural icons to the faces on the wall......with cesar chavez at the heart of the piece.but it was what was painted next to him...that became a magnet for repeated vandalism over the years.the mural kept getting vandalized and the farmworker's eagle, the symbol of united farmworkers eagle, kept getting vandalized because it was adopted by gangs so it' kept getting tagged by rivals in august gonzalez and a team of other muralists repainted it for a third time....this time covering the eagle with the face of the woman who was the co founder of the untied farm workers....labor leader dolores huerta. whoever tagged it caused the restoration of the whole muralthere was outrage at first but now it's like wow maybe we should thank the guy that tagged itstandup since dolores huerta's face

( robin )las vegas officials say the new raiders stadium is right on time.. it's set to be completed by july of 20-20. officials say all the permits are in order, but there is a slight delay on concrete work. one of the big on-going issues is parking. clark county accepted the raiders plan, but m-g-m has not yet signed off on it. officials say both sides are still trying to hammer out the details. i think it will be an ongoing issue past when the stadium opens we have meetings right now in oakland and we've been operating the building for 25 years so parking is an important part of game day it will remain an important part of game day and will keep revising the plant to make sure that it provides the fans what they wantmy

( robin )4 your health this morning... a major recall after an e-coli outbreak blamed on ground beef has turned deadly. federal officials say 'cargill meat solutions' has recalled nearly 133-thousand pounds of ground chuck. the ground meat should be thrown away, or you can return it to the store. eighteen people who ate the meat became sick-- one of them died. we have details on our website - kron4 dot com.

video has gone viral and police say they are now investigating the officer's use of force. kron 4's sara stinson is live at the pittsburg police station this morning with the details. pittsburg police released body cam footage of the entire arrest because they say cell phone videos started to circulate through the area and videos from far away do not tell the full story.a quick warning it gets a bit graphic towards the end.take vo:here you can the officer approaching the 31-year-old man last saturday.officers say they confronted him because they believed he may have been stealing gasoline from cars. police say he had his hand in his right pocket as if he was concealing something from the officers view...they asked him

( james ) happening now... police in san jose are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a 77-year-old woman. it happened on vista park drive near copperfield drive. the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a dark blue mini-van or s-u-v. this is the city's 33rd deadly collision and the 14th involving a pedestrian. morning... an east bay woman is going to prison for a murder that happened decades ago. marsha carter was killed back in december 1983. this is a picture of carter. police found a pool of blood in her richmond home. her body was found 10 days later in the trunk of her car in west sacramento. at that time... investigators didn't have a suspect. in 2008... they reopened the case. sherill lynn smothers was arrested in 2016. she'll be sentenced next week. ( james ) in the east bay... we're now learning the details of a machete attack in fremont. a 28-year old man is now in custody. the attacked happened sunday night. the victim -- john mosley -- suffered traumatic injuries... he could lose sight in one eye. but is expected to survive. mosley's daughter says zekria joyaa attacked her father without warning. joyaa told police he does ánot remember the attack. joyaa is expected in court next week. stephon clark and mikel mcintyre will rally at the state capitol... they want governor brown to sign a several justice reform bills. sacramento police fatally shot clark back in march. officers thought he had a gun... but he actually was holding a cell phone. mcintyre was fatally shot by sacramento county deputies last year. his mother says he was shot while running away from deputies. the bills they want signed include the release of an officer's records to juvenile justice reform. ( darya ) san francisco police have made an arrest in connection to a series of strong arm robberies in the portola district. police arrested 29-year-old michael crayton. polcie say crayton robbed women one four different dates in september. during a search of crayton's home.. police located evidence from an unreported robbery that happened on septemeber 11. ( james ) we're learning more about the arrest of a 19- year-old accused of trying to rape a woman in menlo park. we first told about the arrest tuesday morning.

police say the victim was jogging on woodland avenue... when rogelio artiga started running towards her. artiga asked the woman if she liked to dance. the woman ignore him... but police say artiga followed her... and dragged her into the bushes. the woman was able to break free. ( james ) san mateo's district attorney says the woman's screams scared artiga off. police say home surveillance video helped them catch artiga. ( james ) in the north bay... sonoma county and the city of santa rosa are getting ready to mark the one year anniversary of the october firestorm. next saturday... the santa rosa holistic chamber of commerce is hosting a free healing fair at the veterans building. that event will include a silent auction and live music. and on october 8th... a ceremony will be held at courthouse square. it will

( darya ) california is now the first state to ban restaurants from automatically handing out plastic straws. governor brown signed a bill into law yesterday. it prohibits restaurants from handing out plastic straws... unless a customer asks for one. fast food restaurants are exempt from the new bill. some california cities have already adopted even stricter rules. santa cruz has banned the use of plastic straws in restauarants altogether. and a similar ban goes into effect in san francsico next year. ( darya ) and changes are coming to kids' meals in the state. governor brown signed a law... making milk or water the default drink sold with kids' meals. it doesn't ban restaurants or fast-food chains from selling soda or juice. the idea is to fight childhood obesity, diabetes and other problems.

( james ) crews have stopped the forward progress of the "meyers fire" that broke out around 12:30 yesterday afternoon in el dorado county. all lanes of highway 50 have are reopened after being shutddown by the flames. the 12 acres fire is about 60 percent contained. about 30 homes were threatened by the fire. products with a new law. governor jerry brown passed a bill that restricts the use of plastic straws at restaurants statewide. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the details. a statewide move away from the use of plastic straws...a new bill signed by governor jerry brown thursday. says all full service restaurants can only give them out of a customer specifically asks for one. a change that both restaurant owners and customers we talked to say.. is a good idea greg patton/customerwhy not? i mean you don't really need a straw in most cases, it doesn't make a difference whether if you have a straw in your drink or you don't have a straw in your drink, there are other alternative choices to having a plastic straw also. arash ghasemi/chef owner, main street kitchen and bari think it's fantastic. i really believe in it. and it's the same thing with water. we don't like to pour a glass of
