kavanaugh has denied ford's claim and that of another woman who has come forward with an allegation from his time at yale. and senator dianne feinstein has released a statement on the vote being scheduled. it reads... police department is working to reduce the number of car break-ins in the city... and officers say they made three straight days of arrests this month. all of the arrests were in the fisherman's wharf and north beach area. san francisco police arrested five suspects in those three days. one of the suspects is even being connected to three different car break-ins around the area. police made another arrest when two suspects broke a car window and stole two bags from inside the car... right in front of them. (catherine) an update now on a controversial homeless housing proposal in the south bay. the fate of the project appears to hang in the balance tonight.. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us live from san jose. rob? (rob live) i'm here at the santa clara county government center. supervisors thisafternoon are hearing testimony about a plan to convert this building, the oldsan jose city hall annex, into housing for the homeless. advocates for the homless say that when it comes to finding

housing fo the homeless, there is no such thing as a bad idea. they believe that the moth-balled annex of the former san jose city hall, now owned by santa clara county, could be converted into temporary, transitional housing for as many as 150 people who are now living on the streets. but the county has been resisting the idea saying it isbeyond repair and should be demoloshed to make way for parking. the county says upgrading the building could cost upwards of $100 million dollars. but proponents, which include local contractor jim salata, say it could be done for less than half that amount.jim salata/garden city construction miguel marquez/santa clara county (rob live) advocates for the plan have enlisted a powerful ally in the person ofwell known philanthropist and developer john sobrato, who has pledged$30 million dollars

(catherine) in the east bay.. a man was taken into custody after being accused of assaultinga woman at a bart station. it happened at the bay fair station in san leandro early this morning. police say the man pulled a woman he didn't know off the train after he thought she was using drugs..... officer say they weren't able to confirm whether she was or not. that woman decided not to file

charges against the man. he's been put on a mental health hold. (catherine) happening tonight in berkeley. the city council is expected to vote on a proposal to stop the city's police department from posting photos of people arrested at protests... unless they pose an immediate threat to public safety. some argue that releasing names and mugshots make it possible to haraass and threaten people at homes and work... the meeting is at 6:00 tonight at berkeley's old city hall. (vicki) in the south bay.. . police in santa clara are investigating a shooting... that shut down a major road last night and into this morning. police shut down lawrence expressway between cabrillo avenue and monroe street while they investigated. it's not clear if the shooting happened on the expressway or near it. nobody was injured... and the gunman has not been caught. (vicki) a san jose police officer is now suing the department... claiming he was discriminated against following the september 11 terrorist attacks. we

reported this story earlier this year... and the city says an internal investigation found no wrong-doing. now-- nabil haidar is suing the police department. he is lebanese-american and muslim, and says other san jose police officers taunted him with endless racist accusations. haidar says the harassment intensified after the u-s invaded iraq in 2003 and continued for many years. he has been with the san jose police department for 21 years. (cathereine) california's secretary of state is celebrating national voter registration day by announcing a milestone.. capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains why he made that announcement at high schools... "yes it's a holiday, at least for me it is!" in the courtyard of a sacramento high school.. secretary of state alex padilla announced california teens are making history. (alex padilla- secretary of state) "i'm happy to announce since the launch of our pregistration program, more than 200,000 16 and 17 year olds have pregistered to vote." the program launched two years ago..half of them registered within the last five months.padilla says about 100,000 have turned 18 and will be able to cast their ballot in the upcoming election. (student) "i believe it is important to vote because i believe everyone has a voice that is given to them for all people to hear." according to the secretary of state's office..(( more than 39,000 bay area teens have pregistered)). getting the youngest voters to turn out on election day has been a priority for padilla. "i remember my senior year.. i wasn't worried about registering to vote. i was thinking about how i'm going

the idea... is to talk about it now... before proposition 6 is voted-on in november. prop-6 would repeal the gas tax, state law makers and the governor approved last year. supporters of prop-6 say they'll file a proposed inititiative that would designate existing tax revenues for transportation projects. but by doing this... it would halt the 77- billion dollar high-speed train project. the proposed idea would require all sales tax on cars, car insurance and some traffic fines, go towards transportation projects, city buses, lightrail and bike lanes. although, opponents of prop-6 say it's already happening with the approval of prop-69 this past june. arguing, without the gas tax, california doesn't stand a chance at fixing all the problems. in order for the proposed measure to make the 20-20 november ballot... the group needs to get more than 500-thousand signatures. found crawling across a busy new jersey street was unharmed... after a passing driver rescued her. take a look at this picture... you can see the little girl in the middle of the road. the driver says he saw the girl and at first thought it

was a toy in the road-- but when he got closer he realized it was a baby crawling. the man used his truck as a road block-- and stopped traffic to rescue the baby. he noticed the front door of a nearby home was open and the baby was crawling in that direction. police say police say the door was left open by an older sibling... and a woman at the home said it was an accident. it's not clear how long the baby was on the roadway. yellowstone national park ... to be put back on the endangered species list. the move puts a stop to a planned bear hunt already approved by wyoming and idaho.. and scheduled for this fall. species on the endangered list ... recieve special protections under federal law. meanwhile... those protections are in jeopardy of changing. california is among ten states demanding the trump administration scrap its proposed changes to the endangered species act. the states delivered their comments to administration officials today ... claiming the overhaul would "wreak havoc" with environmental law. the administration says, the changes would mean faster and more efficient decisions on wildlife protection. but states say, the white house proposal would put natural habitats in peril and place species at greater risk of extinction. (pam) a proposed ballot measure to get rid of the state's gas tax ... would also kill the state's high speed rail project. instead of paying more at the

(jrstone) new tonight at 6. according to a report from the san jose housing department... only 64 units of affordable housing were completed by the end of the 20-18 fiscal year in june. that's far short of the city's goal of 10-thousand by 20-22. according to the report... just under 600 more units are under construction. in november... residents will vote on measure v ... which if passed... would set aside another $450 million dollars to build affordable housing. hopes for transitional housing... in a former government- owned building have been dashed in the south bay. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the building instead has a date with the wrecking ball. advocates for the homless say that when it comes to finding housing fo the homeless, there is no such thing as a bad idea. they believe that the moth-balled annex of the

former san jose city hall, now owned by santa clara county, could be converted into temporary, transitional housing for as many as 150 people who are now living on the streets. but the county has been resisting the idea saying it isbeyond repair and should be demoloshed to make way for parking. the county says upgrading the building could cost upwards of $100 million dollars. but proponents, which include local contractor jim salata, say it could be done for less than half that amount.jim salata/garden city construction miguel marquez/santa clara countyadvocates for the plan enlisted a powerful ally in well known philanthropist john sobrato who pledged some$30 million dollars toward the project. but in the end, supervisors voted 3-2 to accept a bid to demolish the oldbuilding.shaunn cartwright/advocate for the homelessdemolision of the annex is part of a master redevelopment plan of the county government center. in san jose robfladeboekron4news
