41-years-old will be booked on kidnapping, domestic violence, child endangerment, burglary. probably a pretty scary event as you can understand the list of charges. people being pepper sprayed. doors being kicked in. taking a child by force. it's going to be traumatic for anyone, so, yes at 6-years-old he probably didn't need to see this"the child abduction started as a home invasion monday just after 7am involving at least six people. an amber alert was issued. modesto police investigators say among the tips they received was information pointing to jayce and his father john cosso being here at la quinta inn & suites in the city of dublin. witnesses say at around 8am tuesday morning police made their movesot"i just seen a guy get tackled by like a swat team and a little boy crying for his dad"sot"i was worried that something had happened. i felt bad for the little boy. i have six little grand kids and it made me think of that. hopefully he is okay">with the help of dublin police and the alameda county sheriff's office, modesto police arrested john cosso. jayce was returned home safe and uninjured. investigators say

the amber alert played a key role in tracking them down sot jayce's 17-year-old step brother was also arrested at la quinta in connection to the child abduction. modesto police say they are actively looking for at least four more unnamed suspects in this case. in dublin haaziq madyun kron4news (vicki) just into kron 4... the senate judiciary committee has scheduled a vote for friday on brett kavanaugh's nomination to the supreme court. the committee vote is being set for the day after kavanaugh and christine blasey ford are to testify about her allegation he sexually assaulted her when they were teens. the committee scheduled the vote as senate majority leader mitch mcconnell announced today he was moving forward with kavanaugh's nomination.

kavanaugh has denied ford's claim and that of another woman who has come forward with an allegation from his time at yale. and senator dianne feinstein has released a statement on the vote being scheduled. it reads... "for republicans to schedule a friday vote on brett kavanaugh toda two days before dr. blasey ford has had a chance to tell her story, is outrageous. first republicans demanded dr. blasey ford testify immediately. now republicans don't even need to hear her before they move ahead with a vote. it's clear to me that republicans don't want this to be a fair process." we will have more on this coming up at 5:30. (catherine) investigators announced an arrest today in connection to those fires. kron 4's terisa estacio reports from san ramon. (take pkg) with flames coming dangerously close to the wong's home, ken wong says they packed up just in case. ken wong, san ramon resident. we were worried, my wife more worried, we packed up valuables to leave, but now relieved they caught someone. police have arrested this man william r. priest, 39, a san ramon resident on arson. they believe he started both fires that erupted out here. it was sunday when flames stretched up into the air in the east bay regional park district property - that backs up to the homes out here... and then monday, another vegetation

fire, suspiciously close to sunday's blaze. this is drone video that shows you just how close those two fires were... wong. ever seen anything like this before, no, no, it was suspicious. police are thanking the public for helping out - saying a resident saw a man leave the area right after the fire started. (vicki) pilot fatigue is the main reason for the near collision of an air canada plane and several others waiting to take-off at s-f-o. here's the plane... coming in for a landing... but as it gets closer... the pilots see the other planes below them... and quickly pull-up... and then circle around. that's because they were trying toland on the taxi-way and not the runway. we've learned the near collission was much closer than initially thought. f-a-a investigators determined the 'air canada' plane came within 10 to 20 feet of another plane. the report also reveals the pilots were fatigued... on their 19th hour of work. to help remedy that, the board wants to talk to air canada about changing the amount of hours pilots can fly. honorable robert sumwalt / ntsb chairman: the incident that we discussed today should drive home the point just how costly a mistake can be and we all make mistakes. if today's recommendations are acted upon we will have taken steps to assure the circumstances of this incident don't happen again. 0:20 along with along with the recommendatio

ns... board members agree the crew, was mainly at fault. saying there was, misidentification of a runway, lack of awareness, they didn't tune the insrument landing system, they had pilot fatigue and a poorly executed approach procedure. at the time of the incident... there was only one air traffic controller. the board wants to make sure there are at least two at all times... during busy times of travel. police department is working to reduce the number of car break-ins in the city... and officers say they made three straight days of arrests this month. all of the arrests were in the fisherman's wharf and north beach area. san francisco police arrested five suspects in those three days. one of the suspects is even being connected to three different car break-ins around the area. police made another arrest when two suspects broke a car window and stole two bags from inside the car... right in front of them. (catherine) an update now on a controversial homeless housing proposal in the south bay. the fate of the project appears to hang in the balance tonight.. kron four's rob fladeboe joins us live from san jose. rob? (rob live) i'm here at the santa clara county government center. supervisors thisafternoon are hearing testimony about a plan to convert this building, the oldsan jose city hall annex, into housing for the homeless. advocates for the homless say that when it comes to finding

housing fo the homeless, there is no such thing as a bad idea. they believe that the moth-balled annex of the former san jose city hall, now owned by santa clara county, could be converted into temporary, transitional housing for as many as 150 people who are now living on the streets. but the county has been resisting the idea saying it isbeyond repair and should be demoloshed to make way for parking. the county says upgrading the building could cost upwards of $100 million dollars. but proponents, which include local contractor jim salata, say it could be done for less than half that amount.jim salata/garden city construction miguel marquez/santa clara county (rob live) advocates for the plan have enlisted a powerful ally in the person ofwell known philanthropist and developer john sobrato, who has pledged$30 million dollars

(catherine) in the east bay.. a man was taken into custody after being accused of assaultinga woman at a bart station. it happened at the bay fair station in san leandro early this morning. police say the man pulled a woman he didn't know off the train after he thought she was using drugs..... officer say they weren't able to confirm whether she was or not. that woman decided not to file

charges against the man. he's been put on a mental health hold. (catherine) happening tonight in berkeley. the city council is expected to vote on a proposal to stop the city's police department from posting photos of people arrested at protests... unless they pose an immediate threat to public safety. some argue that releasing names and mugshots make it possible to haraass and threaten people at homes and work... the meeting is at 6:00 tonight at berkeley's old city hall. (vicki) in the south bay.. . police in santa clara are investigating a shooting... that shut down a major road last night and into this morning. police shut down lawrence expressway between cabrillo avenue and monroe street while they investigated. it's not clear if the shooting happened on the expressway or near it. nobody was injured... and the gunman has not been caught. (vicki) a san jose police officer is now suing the department... claiming he was discriminated against following the september 11 terrorist attacks. we

reported this story earlier this year... and the city says an internal investigation found no wrong-doing. now-- nabil haidar is suing the police department. he is lebanese-american and muslim, and says other san jose police officers taunted him with endless racist accusations. haidar says the harassment intensified after the u-s invaded iraq in 2003 and continued for many years. he has been with the san jose police department for 21 years. (cathereine) california's secretary of state is celebrating national voter registration day by announcing a milestone.. capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains why he made that announcement at high schools... "yes it's a holiday, at least for me it is!" in the courtyard of a sacramento high school.. secretary of state alex padilla announced california teens are making history. (alex padilla- secretary of state) "i'm happy to announce since the launch of our pregistration program, more than 200,000 16 and 17 year olds have pregistered to vote." the program launched two years ago..half of them registered within the last five months.padilla says about 100,000 have turned 18 and will be able to cast their ballot in the upcoming election. (student) "i believe it is important to vote because i believe everyone has a voice that is given to them for all people to hear." according to the secretary of state's office..(( more than 39,000 bay area teens have pregistered)). getting the youngest voters to turn out on election day has been a priority for padilla. "i remember my senior year.. i wasn't worried about registering to vote. i was thinking about how i'm going

the idea... is to talk about it now... before proposition 6 is voted-on in november. prop-6 would repeal the gas tax, state law makers and the governor approved last year. supporters of prop-6 say they'll file a proposed inititiative that would designate existing tax revenues for transportation projects. but by doing this... it would halt the 77- billion dollar high-speed train project. the proposed idea would require all sales tax on cars, car insurance and some traffic fines, go towards transportation projects, city buses, lightrail and bike lanes. although, opponents of prop-6 say it's already happening with the approval of prop-69 this past june. arguing, without the gas tax, california doesn't stand a chance at fixing all the problems. in order for the proposed measure to make the 20-20 november ballot... the group needs to get more than 500-thousand signatures. found crawling across a busy new jersey street was unharmed... after a passing driver rescued her. take a look at this picture... you can see the little girl in the middle of the road. the driver says he saw the girl and at first thought it

was a toy in the road-- but when he got closer he realized it was a baby crawling. the man used his truck as a road block-- and stopped traffic to rescue the baby. he noticed the front door of a nearby home was open and the baby was crawling in that direction. police say police say the door was left open by an older sibling... and a woman at the home said it was an accident. it's not clear how long the baby was on the roadway. (catherine) the judge revoked cosby's bail, meaning he won't be free even while his attorneys work on an appeal. (jr stone) new tonight... a school employee in walnut creek has been arrested and charged with seven counts of child molestation. contra costa police arrested 71- year-old enrique pina this week following a report to the sheriff's department by the alleged victim. pina works at palmer school in walnut creek but authorities say the charges are not linked to the school. if you have information regarding pina or more alleged victims please contact the contra costa sheriff's office. in the east bay -- a man was arrested today for arson -- charged with setting two fires which came dangerously close to homes.

collision at s-f-o back in july of last year. an in-bound air canada plane ... almost collided with 4 other planes when it tried to land on the taxi-way.... instead of the runway. kron4's ryan o'donnell joins us now with more on what investigators discovered. ryan? a lot of safety questions today by the n-t-s-b... as board members reviewed and discussed this incident. besides figureing out what happened... they also want to makes some changes to make sure this doesn't happen again. after all... if this collision would've happened... it likely would've involved 5 planes... and hundreds of people. initially it was thought, the air canada plane got within about 30 feet of the first two planes... but today, we're learning it was much closer than that. f-a-a investigators measured it to be between 10 and 20 feet. also at the time of the incident... there was only one air traffic controller handling both the flights on the ground and in the air... which the board deemed to be too much for one person to handle. but the biggest

concern for the board... was pilot fatigue. the report found the captain and crew were on their 19th hour... and by the time they reached san francisco air space... their body clock was 3 a-m.honorable robert sumwalt / ntsb chairman: it's a tough approach and it's demanding, i can understand based on what the report shows, i can understand how this error could've occurred, this is not an inexperienced crew, the captain had 20,000 hours, the first officer had 10,000 hours. 0:19 the board members say the crew failed to do or recognize several important measures to assure passenger safety. that includes, misidentificatio n of a runway, lack of awareness, not tuning the instrument landing system, pilot fatigue and a poorly executed approach procedure. the board also voted to get in touch with 'air canada,' to talk about a new policy to help them reduce pilot fatigue. (jrstone) new tonight at 6. according to a report from the san jose housing department... only 64 units of affordable housing were completed by the end of the 20-18 fiscal year in june. that's far short of the city's goal of 10-thousand by 20-22. according to the report... just under 600 more units are under construction. in november... residents will vote on measure v ... which if passed... would set aside another $450 million dollars to build affordable housing. hopes for transitional housing... in a former government- owned building have been dashed in the south bay. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the building instead has a date with the wrecking ball. advocates for the homless say that when it comes to finding housing fo the homeless, there is no such thing as a bad idea. they believe that the moth-balled annex of the
