( robin ) happening now... inspections are underway at the transbay transit center in san francisco.. after a crack was discovered in a beam in one of the buldings. kron4's ali reed has the latest on the investigation. fremont street remains closed from mission to howard.and may remain this way for the next couple of days.pkgcommuters

had to find their way around after the new transbay terminal suddenly closed.the beam is cracked so the behavior is unpredictablewhile installing ceiling tiles tuesday morning, workers spotted the crack.once we got the findings from the designer we realized the bus deck had to be closed.that fissure is in a beam on the bus deck ..... near fremont street. the beam supports a portion of the bus deck ... as well as part of the park. out of an abundance of caution, the streets were closed, and so was the transbay terminal.we need to look at the adjacent members to make sure they're not taking additional stress we're told the beam was last inspected during final inspections about a year ago. so it's hard to tell how long it's been there. steel for the beams were made in the u-s, and go through rigorous inspections, according to executive director mark zabaneh (zah-bah-nee).beams are inspected in the fabrication shop before they arrive at the job site, they're inspected after installationthe cause of the

crack is still under investigation ..... for now, inspectors don't see a connection between this fissure and the sinking of the millenium tower. however, research is being done to find out if other locations throughout the terminal have been impacted. based on the initial inspection we don't believe it's related to any adjacent structuresstandup operations have been moved back to the temporary terminal as people prepare for the morning commute, expect delays. we will be getting another update from inspectors by noon tomorrow.reporting live francisco .... ar .... kron 4 news. ( robin )in the east bay... a man was taken into custody after being accused of assaulting a woman at a bart station. it happened at the bay fair station in san leandro early tuesday morning. police say the man pulled a woman he didn't know off the train after he thought she was using drugs. officer say they weren't able to confirm whether she was or not. that woman decided not to file charges against the man. he's been put on a mental health hold. ( robin )a san jose police officer is now suing the department ... claiming he

was discriminated against, following the september 11th terrorist attacks. we reported this story earlier this year ... the city now says, an internal investigation found no wrongdoing. now -- nabil haidar is suing the police department. he is lebanese- american and muslim, and says, other san jose police officers taunted him... with endless racist accusations. haidar says, the harassment intensified after the u-s invaded iraq in 2003.... and continued for many years. he has been with the san jose police department for 21- years. ( robin )one person has been arresrted - after two fires came dangerously close to homes. investigators say it was arson. the fires began in the hills behind a neighborhood in san ramon. police have arrested this man... william r. priest. they believe he started both fires that erupted on sunday and monday. this is drone video that shows you just how close those

two fires were. police are thanking the public for helping out - saying a resident saw a man leave the area right after the fire started. ( robin )in the east bay... an apartment building is being renovated by a new owner... for place to stay. kron 4 's ella sogomonian was at a concord city council meeting and has the latest. a group gathered at concord city hall tuesday night pleading the council for help. at the end of august residents of 28 units at the parkside garden and a single family home in concord were given 60 days to find someplace else to stay while their new property owner renovates the building... they're invited to come back but they'll be met with an rent increase many say they can't afford... sot: crystal chandler, resident// "i'm a single mother of a 12 year old so i don't just have 5000 dollars lying around to move you know first month last month deposit and still have to pay rent there. i'm working as a dental assistant and i make pretty good money but i'm still living paycheck to paycheck."although they're

( robin )six-year-old jayce cosso is back at home safe and sound with his mother in modesto... after being abducted by his father. that boy's father is now behind bars this morning. the child abduction started as a home invasion monday just after 7am involving at least six people. an amber alert was issued. modesto police say among the tips they received... was information pointing to the boys father... being at a la quinta inn and suites in the city of dublin. jayce's 17-year-old step brother was also arrested at la quinta in connection to the child desto police say they actively looking for at least four more unnamed suspects in this case.

( robin )national news this morning... the senate judiciary committee has scheduled a vote for friday... on brett kavanaugh's supreme court. the committee vote is set for the day after kavanaugh and christine blasey- ford are to testify about her allegation.. that he sexually assaulted her when they were teens. the committee scheduled the vote, as senate majority leader mitch mcconnell announced yesterday, he was moving forward with kavanaugh's nomination. kavanaugh has denied ford's claim... áand... that of another woman who has come forward with an allegation from his time in college at yale. ( robin ) oakland and san francisco schools helped jump start the four-day dream force event by celebrating a ton of money coming their way. kron four's philippe djegal reports salesforce announced it is providing nearly 16- million dollars in grants to the san francisco and oakland unified school districts. (philippe) since 20-13... the charitable arm of

salesforce -- salesforce- dot-org... has made more than 50-million dollars in donations to bay area schools. that includes the nearly 16-million dollars it's c-e-o marc benioff announced tuesday that it is committing in grants this year to the san francisco and oakland unified school districts.vincent matthews/sfusd- "we've established a program called "pitch," and we're looking at providing resources, uh for low-income students of color and we're gonna use these dollars to do just that." the san francisco unified school district receives eight- point-five millions dollars. oakland unified about seven million. oakland unified superintendent doctor kyla johnson-trammell (truh-mel) says she intends to focus the money on middle school students... like the ones who attended the first day of "dreamforce."kyla johnson- trammell/ousd- "it really helps us to address many of the opportunity gaps that keep many of our students, um, from actually reaching their full human potential." the school districts say the money will help expand their computer science and college access programs... and, assist immigrant students who are learning english.vincent

first grade textbook... that features democratic candidate for governor.... gavin newsom as a quote "champion for people's rights." conservative groups say newsom's appearance in the book is nothing but propaganda. reporter doug johnson has the story. greg burt, california family council director of capital engagement"we get a notice from the school district that they were testing some new curriculum."greg burt is the director of capital engagement for the california family council... a conservative group out of fresno.but burt is also a parent of a high school student within the elk grove unified school district. so he decided to check out some of the new text books the district is using in a pilot program for first graders.greg burt, california family council director of capital engagement"there was different various heroes we'd typically see in a first grade class like abraham lincoln and martin luther king. and then there was gavin newsom, and i go, well that's interesting." the book titles newsom as a champion of people's rights... and explains how as mayor of san francisco, he said people could marry who they choose... saying quote:"sometimes gavin

( robin )in the north bay -- a red flag warning affected parts of sonoma county. but as kron 4's charles clifford explains... the danger is not over yet. well, the latest red flag warning from the national weather service actually expired at 5 on tuesday afternoon but september and october remain the most dangerous month of the year for wildfires. that grass is bone dry, the trees are dry and the ground is dry. wildfires are still a very real danger.red flag warnings are nothing new in sonoma

county, but after last year's devastating wildfires, fire officials made some changes. now during red flag warnings, fire crews are beefed up and put on standby. james williams is the fire marshal for the sonoma county fire and emergency services department sotthere's a strike team and task force from various departments across the county. that way we can get a heavy response during the fire's early stages.since last year, fire officials have also worked on improving their fire detection capabilities. last month, the county approved nearly half a million dollars to build a camera network that will watch for problems.sotto have early detection and warning of fire that are starting. that way we can get word out to the public about that. to have early notification to get resources on the scene and hopefully supress the fire very quickly.t improve it's public outreach to ask for the public's help in preventing wildfires.sot in sonoma county, charles clifford kron 4 news.

( darya ) this morning... we're seeing the reunion between a 6-year-old boy who was kidnapped and his mother. this is a this is a photo of jayce cosso being reunited with his mom at their modesto home yesterday morning. the boy's father kidnapped him on monday. the boy and his father -- john cosso -- were found at a la quinta inn and suites in dublin. cosso and jayce's 17-year-old step brother were arrested. modesto police say they are looking for at least four more for at least four more people in this case. ( darya ) a desperate mother is pleading with the public to help find her son...

and now the f-b-i is offering a 10-thousand dollar reward for his return. 6-year-old maddox ritch has been missing since he ran away from his father and another adult at a park saturday in north carolina. hundreds of searchers have been looking for the boy who has autism and non-verbal. authorities are using dogs... drones and even recordings of his parents' voices... to try to draw the child out of the woods. draining water from the park's lake to get a better look at the shoreline. police are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses for clues. ( james ) in the south bay... santa clara county supervisors will accept a bid to demolish the old city hall building in san jose. but there will be áno transitional housing for the homeless. that's what advocates had been pushing for. instead... the long vacant building will be torn down to make way for parking. ( james ) meanwhile... the city of san jose has agreed to lease land for only one dollar a month for the next six months to "hope village." hope village first opened without permission... and the homeless people camped out there were forced to leave. the new site is across from the old one. the new site is being cleaned and ready by tomorrow. ( darya ) a big story this morning... a school employee in walnut creek has been arrested and charged with seven counts of child molestation. contra costa police arrested 71-year-old enrique pina. pina worked at palmer school in walnut creek... but authorities say the charges are ánot linked to

bay.. a man is taken into custody after assaulting a woman at a bart station. it happened at the bay fair station in san leandro early yesterday morning. police say the man pulled a woman off the train because he thought she was using drugs. officer say they weren't able to confirm whether she was or not. that woman decided not to file charges against the man... who's been put on a mental health hold. ( james ) san francisco police are working to reduce the number of car break-ins in the city. and to that end, they've arrested 5 people in 3 days. all of the arrests were in the fisherman's wharf and north beach area. one of the people arrested is connected to 3 different car break-ins around the area. police say they made another arrest when two people broke a car window and stole two bags... right in front of them. ( james ) apple thieves strike again. this time in the east bay. police say 6 to 8 thieves stole multipe products from

the emeryville apple store on bay street. police are not sure how many products the thieves got away with. they added they aren't sure if this robery was connected to the other recent grab and run apple thefts happening in the bay area. ( darya ) happening today in the east bay... students voted for it and now it's here. a 45-hundred square foot universal locker room opens today at the u-c berkely campus.. in 2015, cal students voted to pay an annual wellness fee to help cover the costs. the university says it's a way to better serve students who may prefer a non-gender option... more privacy... or who require disability accommodations. the facility has 400 lockers... 16 individual changing rooms... seven private showers... five private toilets and four shared sinks. the men's and women's locker rooms will continue to be available. ( darya ) a big story this morning... a school employee in walnut creek has been arrested and charged with seven counts of child molestation. contra costa police arrested 71-year-old enrique pina. pina worked at palmer school in walnut creek... but authorities say the charges are ánot linked to the school. authorities are looking for more victims. ( darya ) in the east bay... people living in one concord apartment building are upset after being given 60 days to find another place to live while their apartment is being rennovated... and then learning that they could face a rent increase. this is happening at the parkside garden apartments. last night a group of residents gathered at the city council meeting to ask for help. the building owners are spending more than a million dollars to make maintenance repairs. after the repairs... the people living there say they will be allowed to re-apply to live there and they could see a rent increas between 500 and a thousand

( james ) new this morning in the north bay... police have arrested 2 teen girls for a fight at a high school football game.. that led to a stabbing. it happened during the montgomery high school football game friday night in santa rosa. police say a 16-year-old girl confronted a 15-year-old girl at the game. during the fight... the 15-year-old stabbed the 16-year-old. the 16-year-old was not seriously hurt. both teens were arrested... one for the stabbing and the other for starting the fight. ( james ) one person has been arrested... after 2 fires came dangerously close to homes. investigators say it was arson. the fires started in the hills behind a san ramon neighborhood. poli h man... william r. priest. they believe he started both fires that erupted on sunday and monday. this is drone video that shows you just how close those two fires were.

( darya ) this morning... we're seeing the reunion between a 6-year-old boy who was kidnapped and his mother. this is a photo of jayce cosso being reunited with his mom at their modesto home yesterday morning. the boy's father kidnapped him on monday. the boy and his father -- john cosso -- were found at a la quinta inn and suites in dublin. cosso and jayce's 17-year-old step brother were arrested. modesto police say they are looking for at least four more people in this case. ( james ) a proposed ballot measure to get rid of the state's gas tax would also kill the state's high speed rail project. instead of paying more at the pump...
