discovery will now keep the center shut down until at least the end of next week. kron4's ali reid has the story. pkg2 cracks found in a building recently completed. the construction team believes this is an isolated incident that will not affect the entire terminal.mark zabaneh/ transbay joint powers authority we're very disappointed with what happened, we will get to the bottom of thisboth cracked beams run east to west on fremont street and help support the rooftop park, bus deck, and fremont street bridge.at this point in time we don't know what the cause of the crack is. we know the building is safeduring the 2016 final inspection , the transbay joint powers authority says there were no signs of strain or cracking. the question is ... at what point could this have happened? it's hard to discern right now what caused it. it could be a fabrication, welding, installation or design issue. transit officials say this is unrelated to the sinking and leaning millenium tower nearby. work crews will begin

repairs to get the building open as soon as possiblewe are looking at a three step process.. shore up the beams to relieve the load once we can do that we can open fremont street. second step is to add additional shoring so we can see if we can operate the bus deck, third step implement a permanent solution for the beams. ( robin )that was kron 4s ali reid reporting. although the t-j-p-a doesn't believe additional cracks exist... a peer review of the entire design will be conducted to ensure the transit center is completely safe. bold home invasion leaves a community fearing for their safety. the incident was all caught on camera. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the details. (hermela aregawi)this happened late morning monday.. shortly after the victims stepped out... but they weren't the only ones in the neighborhood targeted that day.. making residents seriously question their safety.while a family is out on errands.. these bold thieves rummage through their house.. taking laptops, jewelrly, cash, video games.. and anything they can carry out.sarah/victimit just feels scary, your home is supposed to be safe and these guys went into my bedroom, just taking everything, going through my clothes, i feel very violated sarah says.. she and her family left their house in the monterey oaks nieghborhood around 10 oclock in the morning .. about 18 minutes before their home surveillance camera captures these three men turning their home upside

( robin )san francisco police have identified the headless body... found in a home last month. the remains have been identified as 65-year-old brian egg, the homeowner who vanished several months ago. friends and family say, they had not heard from egg since june... but last month, neighbors reported seeing a stranger and a cleaning crew at his home. police arrested two men and later found egg's headless, torso in the fish tank. the two men have not been criminally charged, but police say, they are persons of interest in the case, which remains under investigation. ( robin )san francisco police have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of an 83-year- old woman. police say a 30-year-old family member is the killer. police found the crime scene at a home near howard and fourth streets early wednesday morning... during a wellness check. police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim. ( robin )in the east bay - there's a scandal involving a priest who's been removed from the ministry - yet allowed to conduct mass at a local church. the priest was earlier accused of child abuse in another california church. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. (pkg)father j. patrick foley was removed from the ministry by the catholic diocese in san diego. according to this letter from bishop michael barber of the oakland diocese foley was removed from the priestly ministry due to inappropriate behavior with children. however somehow st. isidore church in danville didn't get the message. according to this same letter to st. isidore perishners father gerald moran, who you see here, did not seek a

letter of suitability before allowing foley to celebrate mass and sacraments at the danville church. as a result of this violation of national catholic church protocals father moran has been placed administrative leave from the parish while an internal investigation into this matter takes place.bishop barber's letter goes on to say the church is not aware of any children or vulnerable adults at st. isidore being harmed in any way by father foley. parents here at st. isidore catholic school did not want to talk on camera but off camera at least parents told me there is a considerable amount of outrage that the church allowed this to happen. although father foley has been officially removed from the ministry for inappropriate behavior with children, according to his website he is still making himself available to the public, offering a variety of church related services. i reached out to father foley for his response to to this. i received no reply. in danville haaziq madyun kron4news ( robin )alameda county

sheriffs deputies continued their search yesterday for a 71-year-old fisherman... who has been missing since monday. it is believed he slipped and fell into the 18-feet deep delta-mendota canal near livermore. his family says he fishes there every day -- and that they were concerned when he didn't return home at his usual time. deputies are employing the use of a drone, helicopter, motorcycles, and dogs to search for the man. ( robin )new video of strong arm laptop thieves in action. this incident happened at a coffee shop in davis... but police believe the robberies are part of a regional trend. authorities say in each robbery, young men walk into the business... look around and snatch someone's laptop while they are using it, and run out. police say people who use their electronics at coffee shops should keep a record of their serial numbers... and report the theft instead of chasing after thieves.

( robin )a major development in a string of apple thefts that's been happening here in the bay area. ol pice made a big bust-- which comes on the heels of two other thefts. kron four's terisa estacio reports. terisa estacio, reporting, emeryville. kron four news has learned at least 7 people were taken into custody in connection with busting a ring associated with stealing from dozens of apple stores. this comes on the heels of a high stakes crime here in emeryville tuesday, and a case out of palo alot. - where police say in both cases, packs of young males raced into apple stores and took off with ipads and the latest iphone that runs close to a thousand dollars each. thefts at apple stores are at an all time high.... a north bay took as the crime unfolded right in front of him... and later he shared this video exclusively with kron four news, showing the arrest of one suspect. a month ago, the apple store in corte madera was hit and images of suspects

released. late wednesday, oakland police announced it assisted outside law enforcement by arresting multiple indidivuals on criminal warrants. and that the arrests are are in connection with large scale crimes throughout california... they would neither confirm or deny the cases were directly involved in apple thefts. kron four news has also learned that california department of justice is involved and more information with be realeased on thursday. thefts at apple stores have plagued the bay area... on here in emeryville, residents say they are very relieved to hear there could be a major break in i am glad, they needed to be caught. they were putting lives at emeryville, kron four ( robin )for your health this morning... the number of babies born infected with syphilis.... has reached the highest level in 20 years. it is still rare for babies to get syphilis from their infected mothers, but new numbers show more than 900 cases were reported last year in the u-s. that's more than double the number in

20-13... and most cases were in the southeast and southwest. the last time the number was that high or higher was in the 19-90s. syphilis can deform or kill babies. at least 77 of last year's cases were stillborn or died. jose have arrested one man for sexual battery. bar-altamiran w on september 20th. the day before.. police responded to a call of sexual battery on mossdale way and jackson aveune. a female victim reported that a male sexually assaulted her while she was walking her dog. she was able to fight him off and he left in a toyota 4-runner. police located escobar- altamiran the next day and he was booked into the santa clara county jail. ( robin )in petaluma... police have arrested a man for grabbing, hugging and kissing a woman without her consent. the woman says jimmy mazariegos grabbed her hands and started kissing her for about 5 minutes... before a man who was inside a nearby business stepped in. mazariegos then ran off. but police were able to find and arrest him. the woman picked him out of a lineup and mazariegos confessed to hugging the woman. of killing a 6-year-old girl during a street race will be arraigned this morning. police say shannon fox ran a red light during that race... hitting and killing lisa xavier in menlo park back in 2009. police say he then ran off to central america. guatamalan authorities caught up to him in december 20-16. he spent nearly 2 years in jail there. morning... nationwide 80- thousand people died from flu- related problems last winter. that's according to the c-d-c. many of those deaths were among the young and elderly. kron four's charles clifford says experts are asking people to take the appropriate steps to avoid a repeat of the last flu season. sotlast season was a sot last season was a particulary severe flu season.

dr. julie stoltey is an infectious disease physician with the san francisco department of public health. she says that la4 people, probably more, died from complications related to the flu. she says it's difficult to predict when the influenza virus will strike and how bad it will be.sotit's always unpredictable. we don't know how it's going to be until it occurs. with another flu season on the horizon, she says it's very important that everyone get vaccinated. a flu shot doesn't guarantee that someone will avoid getting sick, but it's the best protection we have.sotbut even in years where the flu vaccine is not 100 percent effective it's still prevent millions of illnesses in this country and 10s of thousands of hospitalizationsstoltey also reccomends getting a flu shot every year because the same flu virus doesn't spread all the time and the vaccine is adjusted accordingly.sotthe

( robin ) facebook is being sued ... for not protecting its "content moderators" from post tramautic stress. the lawsuit claims that some employees are suffering from psychological trauma - after monitoring offensive and

horrifying images all day. the suit was filed on behalf of a former facebook employee hired for that job. the content being screened can include video or photos of things like sexual abuse, torture and more. that person says he spent nine months on the job and was then diagnosed with post-traumatic stress. the suit is asking facebook to set up a medical monitoring fund to provide testing and care for content moderators. ( robin )alcohol is responsible for one in 20 deaths worldwide.... according to the world health organization. it says more than three million people died from drinking alcohol in 20-16. a recently published study found that no amount of alcohol is good for you... and any benefits are offset by increased risks for certain cancers and other diseases. this is at odds with the long-held belief that moderate drinking can be good for you. this year.... the government is raising interest rates. this time, it's by a quarter of a to two-point-25-percent. the hike is likely to impact the cost of housing, cars, student loans and even the interest on your credit card. economic experts say nearly everyone will see interest rates go up. they also say people with variable mortgage rates will also see changes in the long-term. if you rent-- experts say landlords may pass down those costs to you. certain car and student loans may also be impacted. federal officials expect at least three rate hikes in 20-19. least three women to come forward with sexual misconduct allegations áagainst kavanaugh. ford is a professor of psychology at palo alto university and a research psychologist at the stanford university school of medicine. she claims kavanaugh pinned her down in a bed and attempted to remove her clothes at a party during the early 1980s. kavanaugh has denied those claims. today ford will testify before kavanaugh testifies. ford's attorney has already released her prepared opening statement. in it she says she wants to testify but she is terrified to do so. she also says it is her civic duty to tell the senate judiciary committee what happened between her and kavanaugh while they were in high school. in her statement she also says... about judge kavanaugh... quote: "i believed he was going to rape me. i tried to yell for help. when i did, brett put his hand over my mouth to stop me from

( james ) and this morning there are new allegations against judge kavanaugh. the first accusations come from julie swetnick. she claims that she attended more than 10 parties in the early 80's where kavanaugh was present. she says he drank heavily and engaged in abusive and aggressive behavior towards girls. swetnick says kavanaugh would push his body against females without their consent and try to remove their clothes. under penalty of perjury, swetnick made the allegations in a sworn statement to the senate judiciary committee. and overnight... two more accusers have come forward. they have decided to remain annonymous. one of the accusers claims that kavanaugh assaulted a woman he was dating in 1998. kavanaugh has denied all rhode island today... supporters of

man... 33-year-old kyle bridgman has confessed to setting five fires in placer county in 20-17. the investigation into the fires involved cal fire.. placer courty sheriff's office and the f-b-i. the fires were small... no homes were damaged. bridgeman owns a home in lincoln.. a town just north of sacramento. one neighbor says she's shocked.. she says bridgman was always helping those who lived nearby.

police have identified the headless body found inside a fish tank in a home last month. the remains have been identified as 65-year-old brian egg. friends and family say they had not heard from egg since june. but last month... neighbors reported seeing a stranger and a cleaning crew at his home. police arrested two men and later found egg's headless, handless torso in a fish tank. the two men have not been criminally charged... but police say they are persons of interest.
