through castro valley, dublin pleasaton and over the well, right now the dublin pleasanton bart station is the end of the line for riders who commute from the livermore and the central valley into the bay area. but relief could be on teh way.in the comming decades traffic along the already busy interstate 580 through castro valley, dublin pleasaton and over the altimont pass is expected to more than double.in order to releive that congestions, plans have been in the works for a long time to extend some form of rail service from the dublin pleasanton bart station into the san juaquin valley. natson wednesday, the bay area's metroplitan transportation commission approved just over 10 million dollars to conduct an environmental impact review and preliminary engineering study on just such a project. it's know as valley link and it would be a railway from dublin pleasanton bart, over the altimont pass extending to tracy and possibly beyond. there could be stops near livermore, mountain house, downtown tracy and possibly even futher east. sot i think it would be great. that's welcome new to bart riders like neil holmes. he travels from tracy to the bay area on a regular basis. he says fighting traffic from tracy to the bart station is brutal and that valley like is a good idea.sotthe highways are over filled. this is much more efficient. easy and faster to do that. i could ride bart

all the way from tracy to san francisco.but opponents of the plan make several points. first, it's unclear who would pay for the eventual construction of the 1.8 billinon dollar valley link. critics also argue that extending bart to central califronia may not be the best way to relieve traffic congestion for bay area commuters.another argument against the valley link is that the ace train system already connects the bay area to san juaquin valley. perhaps it would be better to expand that system rather than build a new train route.in any case, it will be years possibly decades if ever before the valley link is up and running. in the mean time commuters like neil will just have to hope that relief will come. .eventually.sotif you go to europe, people commute long distances by train. why not here? we have to population density to support it.if all goes well, valley link could be up and running between 2023-2026 ,in dublin, charles clifford kron 4 news.
