( sara )marty - the two runways that have been under maitenance are expected to re- open right now actually...but hundreds of flights have been canceled so right now i'm working to confirm if any flights this morning will be impacted.take vo:airport officials say the runways being repaired are among the most heavily used surfaces at s-f-o. when the two runways closed - it caused 112 flight cancellations and 347 delays yesterday.many people were forced to figure out another way to get where they were going.flyers were standing by to see what their airline could do to accomodate. but it was a frustrating experience for those waiting for hours on end.sot: janice reckurd, flight delayed//"i should have been in eureka at 10:20 this morning and the ni should have been there at 5 something and

( marty ) in the north bay... 67 animal rights activists were arrested saturday after taking over a chicken farm near petaluma. these are pictures from the scene. the protestors claim that the rm houses thousands of birds in inhumane conditions. the demonstrators are from the berkeley-based group "direct action everywhere." the 67 people arrested face charges of felony burglary... felony conspiracy and misdemeanor tresspassing. ( marty ) happening today... voters in oakland can listen to nine of the city's mayoral candidates including current mayor libby schaaf. that forum will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 this evening at temple sinai. that is located at 28th and webster streets. before the forum the candidates will host hour long informal-conversations. the event is free and open to the public.

saturday morning as he was lobster diving in waters off of encinitas, near san diego. this is video of the rescue given to us by a viewer. the boy was rushed to a hospital with injuries to his upper body. witnesses say the boy was conscious and talking to bystanders as he was treated at the beach. but he is listed in critical condition this morning. the victim was rescued by some people in the water who heard the commotion.

( marty ) another big story we are following this morning... starting early next year...you should see more security at bart stations. bart approved hiring 10 new inspectors, to catch people who arent paying their fares. kron 4's lydia pantazes has the details... soon you'll be see ing more fare inspectors on bart.those are the people that check your ticket to make sure you paid to ride bart.the bart board of directors voted 7-2 to hire 10 additional fare inspectors and expand the teams to nights and weekends. a bart spokesmen says fare inspectors increase police presence on-board trains and platforms, deter fare evasion, encourage compliance over time, and help send a message of customer equity.bart currently has six fare inspectors who work during the day on weekdays.in january, bart police started enforcing a new proof of payment ordinance allowing

francisco... the muni system will be getting a major facelift. muni received a three and a half million dollar federal grant to replace and upgrade buses and facilities. the grant is part of a federal government program to improve bus infrastructure nationwide. ( marty ) tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the mass shooting in las vegas that killed 58 people. greg zanis made a cross for each victim shortly after the shooting. he placed them at the iconic "welcome to las vegas" sign. that's close to mandalay bay hotel, where the tragic event took place. now he's bringing back the crosses to help people cope with the somber anniversary. for each person who was killed. ( marty ) on saturday some survivors of the shooting reunited in las vegas to mark one year since that tragedy. jackie kostek has the story. "i just needed to be with people that understood what happened and what was going." one year since the shooting. richard says he's felt isolated and lost. he lives in orville, california about 10 hours from las vegas, so finding other survivors to connect with has been a challenge."i need that comfort you support i need the love which i get from here." providing a safe space for survivors to share that support comfort and love with each other was the intention of organizer shannon bartlett and connie long. both survivors who didn't know each other before route 91, but are now close friends. long says she hopes today feels like a giant support group for her fellow survivors."to hopefully heal. get some pieces put back together. hug, love, remember, have some fun. drink some drinks. do the things that we

southern california got a big surprise when he found 46-thousand dollars hidden in a donation box. jesse diaz says he came across a box with a pot in it with some tin foil. he thought about tossing it... but curiousity got the better of him. that's when he found five envelopes full of cash. diaz and a coworker counted out all of the money. returning the money to the owner was a no brainer for diaz. greg zanis made a cross for each victim shortly after the shooting. he placed them at the iconic "welcome to las vegas" sign. that's close to mandalay bay hotel, where the tragic event took place. now he's bringing back the crosses to help people cope with the somber ( marty ) zanis says starting today... he's going to hold a 58-hour vigil. that's a one hour vigil for each person who was killed. police in san joaquin county spent part of their friday afternoon on a slow speed chase trying to corral a cow. it got loose along with a bunch of bovines after the trailer carrying them crashed into another vehicle. at least 25 cows trotted onto the highway after that accident. officers rounded up most of the cattle pretty quickly, but this one didn't go so easily. the wayward cow led police down side streets and even through a vineyard before they finally caught it. no one was injured in the crash. are following this morning... thousands of trees will be chopped down in an effort to prevent wildfires in california. the idea is to remove trees near power lines to reduce the risk of new fires. steve large has the story. this is the new normal for p-g- and-e in california extreme wildfire climate.supplies delivered to new staging areas where hundreds of tree-cutters are being hired to trim or remove trees along thousands of miles of pg-and-e power lines.there is lots of work. and even laundry services supplied at this amador county base camp.brandi merlo, pg&e spokesperson:"the crews in this camp that come to this camp, are all tree crews, certified tree crews that are able to do work near and around our power lines."there are now nine pg-and-e base camps like this one in the northern california mountains where fire danger is high.don and nancy leach live in the

workers are searching for survivors after a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami, killing at least 830 people. the 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit friday followed by a tsunami... a ten foot wall of water smashed into buildings and swept away homes in the coastal city of palu. officials say the death toll could climb in the coming days. electricity and communications have been cut off... making it difficult to assess the damage.
