( robin ) a big story we are following this morning... governor brown has vetoed a measure that would allow san francisco to open safe injection sites. the governor says quote: enabling illegal and destructive drug use will never work. san francisco has been trying to be the first city in the u-s to build a safe injection site. san francisco could still choose to open such a site, but it would be in violation of federal and state law. mayor london breed... released a statement saying the city will continue to work with the community to come up

with a solution to the city's drug problem. ( robin ) the trump administration has sued california over a new law imposing net neutrality protections. the lawsuit filed yesterday by the u-s department of justice came an hour after governor jerry brown signed the law. the federal communications commission last year repealed rules preventing internet

companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see on the internet. california's law seeks to reinstate those rules. the lawsuit argues that california's approach is "unlawful and anti-consumer" because it imposes regulations on the internet and goes against the federal government's approach. ( robin ) companies headquartered in california can no longer have all-male corporate boards. a new bill was enacted sunday -- requiring all publicly traded firms in the state to have at least one woman on their board of directors by the end of 20- 19. if there are already five directors in a company... two women must be added by the end of 20-21. for six or more directors, at least three women are required to be added by 2021. if companies don't follow the new mandate -- they will face a penalty. san diego up to san francisco so it wasn't too bad. but you know i think we're all just excited to see what the community is like and experience san francisco for the first time. the 38th annual fleet week will end with the infamous blue angels air show. the event brings in more than a million people. we spoke with some of them who say. they're looking forward to the spectacular show. it's really cool cause you can see all kinds of tricks or anything like that. how close the plane come to you. they just come literally right over your head it's pretty cool.i feel ike it's always the nicest weather when it's fleet week. the sun is always shining and it's alway a great time. a full list of events happening this week... is on kron4.com. ( robin ) in san francisco... the salesforce transit center and fremont street will be closed for at least the rest of the week. work started sunday to fix the cracked steel beams that were discovered in the transit center. the area is shut down for safety concerns. buses will use the temporary transbay terminal at howard and main streets -- where they operated from before the transit center opened just one month ago. this wee.. people should expect delays in the area. a design to fix the problem is being reviewed by an independent organization. officials have not said what caused the cracks. ( robin ) happening today... cal fire will be conducting a controlled burn. the burn will be happening inside joseph-d grant county park on mount hamilton road. it will be visible from san jose and south santa clara valley. bay... u-c berkeley is taking the lead as the first large-scale university to build a "gender-inclusive locker room." as kron 4's ali reid explains, it is meant to help everyone feel welcome. at the recreational sports facility on campus ...i kept seeing all sorts of people in there so it's kinda coolthe newly built universal locker room is all about inclusion. changing rooms are private, restrooms are private, everything is private, so it's accessible to everyonethose with disabilities, non-binary, transgender, or students struggling with their body image can walk right in.if you want your own space, in the women's locker room you pretty much see everything, in this new locker room you have your own space to do everything privatelythere are only a few of them on university campuses across the nation. u.c. berkeley is the first large university in california to

incorporate this type of locker room.in the freshman dorms and things like that st of the bathrooms are non gender, so the next logical step is to make the locker room that way. i think it's great that our school is taking the lead to be more inclusive to all peoplethe 2.7 million dollar project was paid for by students, through an annual fee that goes into a wellness fund. reporting from berkeley ... ar ... kron 4 news. ( robin ) in world news... the death toll from friday's earthquake and tsunami in indonesia is now up to 844. the 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit friday followed by a tsunami... a ten foot wall of water smashed into buildings and swept away homes along the coast. nearly 50-thousand people have been displaced and indonesian officials say the

death toll is expected to rise. electricity and communications have been cut off to parts of the country... making it difficult to assess the damage. ( robin ) take a look at this new video into the newsroom overnight... the coast gurad had to rescue a man from a fishing boat just west of the golden gate bridge. the rescue happened yesterday morning. the coast guard lowered a diver onto the boat and then hoisted the man into the helicopter. the man was taken to the stanford medical center. it is not clear this morning why the man had to be rescued. ( robin ) another big story we are following this morning... a 13-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a shark in southern california. this is video of the rescue given to us by a viewer. this happened saturday morning as the boy was lobster diving in waters off of encinitas.. near san diego. the boy was rushed to a hospital with injuries to his upper body. the hospital says the boy is

( robin ) dozens of families turned out for the san francisco public libraries 10th annual tricycle music festival. this year the library kicked off the event by partnering up with the s-f-moma where the oakland emmy nominated group called "alphabet rockers" preformed. this is the first of nine free concerts the library is hosting within the next month. ( robin ) at the end of each show - one lucky person wins a brand new red tricycle. the next concert will be next saturday

at the libraries parkside ( robin ) for your money this morning... honda is recalling one and a half million cars in the u.s. to replace átakata front passenger air bag inflaters. the recall covers honda and acura vehicles. it comes ahead of the government ordered schedule for airbag recalls. the faulty inflaters are part of the largest auto recalls in u.s. history... affecting 37 million vehicles. ( robin ) new this morning... governor brown has signed a bill tha is meant to bring relief to the bay area housing crisis. the bill allows 20-thousand new homes to be built on property next to bart stations. the new homes are meant to be affordable to working families. officials hope that building the new homes so close to the transit system will also help reduce traffic congestion. ( robin ) governor brown has also vetoed on a bill that would have required all public universities.... to offer medication abortions at their campus health centers. none of the 34 u-c or c-s-u campuses currently offer abortion services. private donors had agreed to pay millions of dollars in

( robin ) happening now... in san francsico -- the search is on for a man who is wanted for an assault. pay attention to the top of your screen. this surveillence video shows... the victim waiting on the street corner for a rideshare service... then the white car pulls up next to him. the victim thought the car was his rideshare. the attacker gets out and punches the victim. he fell to the ground and suffered life threatening injuries. the attacker got back in the car and took off. san francisco police released this sketch of the attacker. he was seen leaving the scene in a white, four- door sedan , with silver rims and black roof. ( robin ) in the north bay... a police cruiser was hit by an s-u-v at an intersection in santa rosa. it happened saturday morning. you can see the damage done to the police car. after the crash ... the

driver sped off and the police officer chased him. the speeding driver then crashed into a fence on a dead end street. he ran away from the scene ... but police were able to find him. 18-year-old jose luis hernandez was arrested for hit and run and evading a police officer. ( robin ) police are looking for the people breaking into homes in morgan hill. morgan hill police got several calls of a suspicious car driving through neighborhoods. police say... the car was connected to a number of thefts from unlocked vehicles. surveillance video captured the burglars checking out several cars. the áburglar's car is a white ford s-u-v... possibly an explorer or expedition. ( robin ) in the north bay... 67 animal rights activists were arrested saturday after taking over a chicken farm near petaluma. these are pictures from the scene. the protestors claim that the farm houses thousands of birds in inhumane conditions. the

( robin ) another big story we are following this morning...tesla's elon musk is stepping down as board chairman... but will remain the company's c-e-o. and the company is expected to pay a massive fine as part of a settlement with the securities and exchange commission. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the details. pkgelon musk just lost his job as chairman of tesla..as part of a new settlement with the securities and exchange commission.. he will no longer represent the company's shareholders in a lawsuit filed thursday... the sec says.. musk grossly mislead shareholders in an august 7th tweetsteven peikin/co-director of the secs enforcement divisionmusk's tweets were false and misleading. in the tweet.. musk said this.. ( robin ) in vallejo... police are looking for the person who made 18 people sick in a pepper spray attack last week. we now have a surveillance picture of the person police are looking for. it happened at a walgreens store on springs road in vallejo. 2 store employees were taken to the hospital...

and more than a dozen others were treated at the scene. employees say a person walked into the store and first pepper sprayed a woman who works there... and then a second employee who tried to help her. people participated in san francisco's susan g komen race for the cure on sunday. the five-k and walk kicked off at the ferry building and ran along the embarcadero. everyone was representing the fight against breast cancer by wearing pink. after the run - there was a survivor tribute ceremony and award presentation. we caught up with one bay area family who has been participating in this walk for 24 years to honor their mother who passed away from breast cancer.
