wednesday after a struggle with sheriff's deputies.the san mateo county sheriffs office says.. around 1 oclock in the afternoon.. okobi running in and out of traffic on el camino real in millbrae. they say he immediately assaulted a deputy after the officer made contact with him. that led to a call for backup.. and a struggle between a deputy and okobi. they were both taken to a local hopsital.. where the deputy was treated for his injuries.. but okobi died.a neighbor who's known him nearly all his life says.. he's stunned.wyatt mcintyre/victim's neighbori've known him since he was a kid. he's always lived on this block. my mom's been here for 50 years.so i watched him go from grade school, grammar school and then to college and it just blows me away to know that he's not here anymore. the san mateo county sheriffs office says.. a gun was not fired..and

in san carlos on tuesday night. deputies say someone passing by confronted the suspect before he fled toward dayton avenue. the man is described as being white or hispanic about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. he had dark brown hair with a combover haircut and shaved on both sides of his head. he was last seen wearing a white button down shirt, black dress pants and black dress shoes. ( will )in the south bay... a man has been arrested in connection with the death of his coworker in morgan hill. this is a picture of the victim-- 27-year-old curtis stapleton. police say he was found dead on a sidewalk on concord circle back in july. they say stapleton had been involved in a fight with his co-worker-- 30-year-old martin garcia. over the past three months, detectives say they gathered enough evidence to link garcia to stapelton's death. he was arested wednesday and booked into the santa clara county jail. marin county will consider renewing a transportation tax for the next 30 years. the half-cent sales tax would go towards transportation improvements in the county. measure a-a would also keep school crossing guards employed. the measure is on the november ballot-- and needs two-thirds approval. if it passes... it's expected to generate 27-million dollars a year. ( will )for your health this morning... a warning for teens who smoke pot-- it could cause life-long brain damage. researchers tested the memory and reasoning of 38-hundred 13- to-17-year-olds. they found marijuana affected teens' long-term cognitive abilities more than alcohol.

not only that but even when students stopped smoking pot, their memory didn't get better. scientists say they need to do more research to find out how and why the brain is affected by early marijuana use. the study was published in the american journal of psychiatry. go into a court of law and make arguments that would lead to the destruction of that protection for people with pre-existing conditions. the consumer health coaltion says pennsylvanians are afraid of losing their coverage... the affordable care act gives them the opportunity that they could get coverage, there's a big sigh of relief, and now, it's simple anger but health and human services secretary alex azar insists the president is committed to the protections of americans with pre-existing conditions. it may not be the same way that the affordable care act does it, may be more market based ways - better ways of doing it, that actually lead to a more sustainable lower cost insurance for everybody than obamacare did... in a senate aging committee hearing chair susan collins of maine focused on reducing healthcare costs... part of the solution to bringing down health costs is to emphasize prevention as wells other cost effective health interventions... she says 75 percent of health care spending could be avoided

( will )in the east bay... a warrant sweep targeting 16 alleged members of a violent west oakland gang... resulted in a dozen arrests... and a high speed chase. kron4's maureen kelly has exclusive video of arrests being made... once that chase was over. a driver who found himself in the middle the high speed pursuit took this video showing were it ended after the suspect's cadallic broke down on westbound 580 in castro valley around 1030 am......that's after allegedly causing back to back crashes involving two other drivers. trfic was backed up for miles. you can see many oakland police vehicles on the scene....that's because this pursuit was linked to one of 16 criminal search warrents served in alameda, contra costa and san joaquin counties. we took that enforcement to arrest individuals that have been identified with the west oakland getting involved and

been arrested and accused of inappopriately touching minors. 24-year-old peter samonte worked as the head volleyball coach at independence high school in san jose. the school called police yesterday to report samonte. its investigation revealed that between january 20-17 and this month... samonte allegedly inappropriately touched at least three underage boys. he was booked into jail on annoying or molesting a child... as well as sexual battery. ( will ) in san francisco... police are searching for a woman who hit a 60-year-old man with her car and then took off. the victim was hit wednesday night at a crosswalk at baker and oak streets near the panhandle and san francisco's dmv. a description of the suspect and vehicle were not immediately available from police. the victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. the man is described as being white or hispanic about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. he had dark brown hair with a combover haircut and shaved on both sides of his head. he was last seen wearing a white button down shirt, black dress pants and black dress shoes. ( darya ) in the south bay... a man has been arrested in connection with the death of his coworker in morgan hill. this is a picture of the victim-- 27-year-old curtis stapleton. police say he was found dead on a sidewalk on concord circle back in july. they say stapleton had been involved in a fight with his co-worker-- 30-year-old martin garcia. over the past three months, detectives say they gathered enough evidence to link garcia to stapelton's death. he was arested yesterday and booked into the santa clara county jail. ( james ) san francisco police are asking for your help finding the driver who left the scene of a hit and run on wednesday. police say just after 9 p-m officers resonded to the intersection

( james ) a controversial ballot measure would deal with california's affordable housing crisis... by removing restrictions on rent control. if proposition 10 passes ... the price of rent could be in the control of local governments. the measure repeals what's called - the costa hawkins rental housing act. that measure prohibits rent control on single family homes ... and only allows rent control for buildings built before 19-95. as you might expect.. not everyone is on board.

billion dollar bill requiring the f-a-a- to set a minimum set size for commerical planes. the bill focuses heavily on passenger safety. with adding pregnant passengers can now board first. the bill would also include banning animals from the overhead bins. it would also look at updating runways and control towers. ( james ) in san francisco - engineers are recommending dozens of high- rises be reinspected for possible earthquake damage. this comes after a study where engineers surveyed san francisco buildings that are 20 stories or higher. it found 60 to 70 of them have a certain type of construction that is prone to damage. the study says those buildings could be damaged from the 1989 loma prieta earthquake.

( darya ) this morning we now know the name of the man who was died after a struggle with san mateo deputies. kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to a neighbor who knew the man. the family and friends of chinedu valentine okobi are mouring the 36 year old'stragic death.he died wednesday after a struggle with sheriff's deputies.the san mateo county sheriffs office says.. around 1 oclock in the afternoon.. okobi running in and out of traffic on el camino real in millbrae. they say he immediately assaulted a deputy after the officer made contact with him. that led to a call for backup.. and a struggle between a deputy and okobi. they were both taken to a local hopsital.. where the deputy was treated for his injuries.. but okobi died.a neighbor who's known him

( darya ) in the south bay... a man has been arrested in connection with the death of his coworker in morgan hill. this is a picture of the victim-- 27-year-old curtis stapleton. police say he was found dead on a sidewalk on concord circle back in july. they say stapleton had been involved in a fight with his co-worker-- 30-year-old martin garcia. over the past three months, detectives say they gathered enough evidence to link garcia to stapelton's death. he was arested yesterday and booked into the santa jail. ( james ) san francisco police are asking for your help finding the driver who left the scene of a hit and run on wednesday. police

say just after 9 p-m officers resonded to the intersection of oak and baker streets where a 60-year-old man had been hit. the man was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. police say the driver of a black or dark blue toyota prius ran a red light while driving on oak street. the driver got out of the car briefly but allegedly drove east on oak towards broderick street. the front of the toyota likely sustained damage. ( james ) in the east bay.. a warrant sweep targeting 16 alleged members of a violent oakland gang resulted in a dozen arrests and a high speed chase. this is video of the end of the chase by a passerby. the driver said he was caught in the middle of the pursuit.. and the driver leading the chase tailgated him multiple times. traffic was backed up for multiple miles while police arrested the driver and passenger. police say the men arrested were part of a very violent gang terrorizing the east bay.
