in the wildcard play off game . but an even tougher night for one a's fan had beer dumped on his head by a yankees fan. kron-4's michelle kingston reports, the a's fan didn't cry over the spilled beer .. instead, he forgave, forgot, and partied. ( marty ) people recovering from those fires nearly a year ago got together at a north bay park that is slowly coming back to life. kron

guard un-covered 8 tons of cocaine, off the coast of central and south america. the bust was part of a multi- agency anti-drug-trafficking patrol. crews also found more than 11 tons of narcotics in san diego... and intercepted 7 drug smuggling ships in less than a month. the coast guard arrested 23 suspected smugglers. most will be prosecuted in the u-s... others in their native country. the drugs that were seized have a street value of 235-million dollars. ( marty ) typically business owners want to lock robbers out. but in this case the suspect was already inside. so, store clerks did the only thing they could think of. they ran outside and locked the suspect in. police say 19-year-old michael martinez entered a stockton gas station just before noon friday... and started to vandalize the store. but, once he was locked inside and surrounded by police, he climbed into the ceiling crawl space in an attempt to escape on the roof.

( marty ) firefighters and officers were eventually able to talk martinez into surrendering. he was arrested on charges of robbery, felony vandalism, and resisting arrest. ( marty ) in national news... sentencing for former chicago police officer jason van dyke is scheduled for later this month. van dyke was found guilty of second- degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. in addition to the second-degree murder verdict, van dyke was also found guilty of 16 counts of aggravated for for the 16-shots he fired into the teen during the 20-14 confrontation. coming up... the blue angels will soar over san francisco again later today.. we'll find out what fans thought about the air show... after the break.

after they lost to the yankees in the wildcard play off game . but an even tougher night for one a's fan had beer dumped on his head by a yankees fan. kron-4's michelle kingston reports, the a's fan didn't cry over the spilled beer .. instead, he forgave, forgot, and partied. up to stop bullying at his school and his message is spreading fast. tarrick walker is a student at an elementary school in hanford, near fresno. what he says started as a bad day at recess... has turned into a positive story. natsone family. . one team. the walkers' pick each other up when they're down.last month 12-year-old tarrick needed an assist when he says he heard a racial slur while playing basketball at school. tarrick walker/ student:"i'm like, what's happening? and the kid tells me to go out you dumb n-word. and everyone is shocked because no one would ever think someone or a kid would say a racial term, especially that one."tarrick says he realized the slur was directed at him but instead of starting a fight. . his parents gave him a platform on facebookso he could share his

( marty )brett kavanaugh is beginning his first full day as the newest supreme court justice. following a bitter and contentious confirmation process, kavanaugh was sworn in yesterday as the 114th justice of the us supreme court. the ceremony happened just hours after he was confirmed by the senate. our washington correspondent jessica smith has the latest. protesters fought until the very last minute...nats protests.... but

with a 50 to 48 vote, a bitter confirmation battle came to an end -- sending judge brett kavanaugh to the us supreme court. majority leader mitch mcconnnell quickly claimed victory. just days ago, kavanaugh's confirmation was in doubt...after multiple women accused him sexual misconduct and assault. kavanaugh denied the allegations and republicans say the fbi could not corroborate the claims. but democratic senator richard blumenthal argues the fbi report was incomplete. kavanaugh replaces justice anthony kennedy -- who was often the swing vote on the high court.

democratic lawmakers say they're worried about they type of justice kavanaugh will be. but senator chuck grassley points to kavanaugh's record as a judge, and says he won't be influenced by his personal views.

the 29-hundred block of blue-bill circle. the car crashed into a palm tree... and the crash set the tree on fire, which then set the attic of a home on fire. atleast 5 people were taken to a nearby hospitial. one of the victims who was in the vehicle... is in serious condition. ( marty ) it was a court victory for supporters of california's sanctuary laws. a federal judge in san francisco ordered the trump administration to give the state $28-million dollars in law enforcement funding. that money had been withheld in a fight over the state's immigration policies. the judge also ruled as unconstitutional, the law that the government has used to go after sanctuary cities and states. a u-s department of justice spokesman declined comment. it's been an exciting week in the bay area, as thousands are celebrating fleet week. happening today, a big crowd is expected on the marina green for an interactive demonstration. it shows how the u.s. military responds in

the wake of a disaster. kron 4s sara stinson is live with the details... sara? here have tons of activites here on marina green for fleet week but this demonstration is interactive and educational. every fleet week for over eight years military staff builds a humanitarian assistance village to really show people how the department of defense gets involved locally during disasters. in the village four different camp areas mass care and shelter, power and utilities, community response and rescue and environmental management. people who got through each of the four demonstrations will gain a stamp at each one. at the end you can turn them in to potentially win a prize. overall, its fun way to see what the military would do to help us all in a great time of need. this event is going to be on marina green from 10 in

( marty )as we approach the one-year anniversary of the north bay firestorm, four sonoma county firefighting agencies are joining forces to become one big fire district. windsor, rincon valley and bennett valley fire districts along with the mountain volunteer company will become one agency by nexty spring. the sonoma county board of supervisors support the merger that was triggered by last year's devastating blaze. ( marty ) people recovering from those fires nearly a year ago got together at a north bay park that is slowly coming back to life. kron four's philippe djegal reports from sonoma county -- where a community is healing together. (philippe) a year ago... this wasn't possible. a community gathering at shiloh ranch regional park in windsor... with kids running around -- and, creating art. the park was leveled during the tubbs fire that also caused more than a

intercepted 7 drug smuggling ships in less than a month. the coast guard arrested 23 suspected smugglers. most will be prosecuted in the u-s... others in their native country. the drugs that were seized have a street value of 235-million dollars. ( marty ) typically business owners want to lock robbers out. but in this case the suspect was already inside. so, store clerks did the only thing they could think of. they ran outside and locked the suspect in. police say 19-year-old michael martinez entered a stockton gas station just before noon friday... and started to vandalize the store. but, once he was locked inside and surrounded by police, he climbed into the ceiling crawl space in an attempt to escape on the roof. ( marty ) firefighters and officers were eventually able to talk martinez into surrendering.

he was arrested on charges of robbery, felony vandalism, and resisting arrest. ( marty ) in national news... sentencing for former chicago police officer jason van dyke is scheduled for later this month. van dyke was found guilty of second- degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. in addition to the second-degree murder verdict, van dyke was also found guilty of 16 counts of aggravated for for the 16-shots he fired into the teen during the 20-14 confrontation. coming up... the blue angels will soar over san francisco again later today.. we'll find out what fans thought about the air show... after the break. kron 4's gayle ong has reaction from fans of all ages. the 38th annual fleet week air show brought thousands of people to marina green park saturday..the event featured thrilling stunts from top pilotsand angels in the sky san francisco fleet week is famous for the blue angels air shows but they're not the only high-flying spectacle in town..the event also featured high performance bi-planes.. among them..team oracle..and lucas oil..i got to ride with pilot michael wiskus earlier this week..here he is making his way by the golden gate bridge and back up to the sky..for some, the air show is a family tradition..william maltaz, a

( marty )more often than not, travelers get introduced to alaska when traveling on a cruise ship. but travel enthusiast dana rebmann says you should consider hitting the road. she joins us now.(2-shot) there's plenty of great reasons to explore alaska on a cruise, but it's not the only way. being on the road offers its own advantages. denali national park & preserve being one of the big ones. six million acres of wild, one road that goes for 92 miles, until you just reach the end and turn around. cars are only allowed to mile 15,

after that all travel has to be done by bus. (it's essentially where the paved road ends.) the farther you go, the better your chances of spotting wildlife along the way. i went all the way to the end of the road in kantishna. it took more than 12 hours to go out and back, so it was a long day, but i lost count of the number of bears, there were a handful of moose, caribou, even a porcupine. if the weather cooperates, you also get plenty of opportunities to see mount denali, the highest mountain peak in north america. (20,310')the thought of a road trip in alaska might seem overwhelming. you don't have to do it on your own. just like cruises ships get you from one destination to the

next, there are a number of ground tours as well. i was traveling with john hall's alaska. they took care of all of the logistics, from park and attraction entry fees to hotel check-ins. all of your time on the ground in alaska doesn't necessarily have to be spent on the road. the alaska railroad is worth hopping aboard. with just shy of 500 miles of track, there are numerous stops, so you don't have do the entire stretch. but on a clear day, the scenery can be pretty impressive. every seat has a view, but i don't think i ever sat down. i spent the entire few hours on an open air, outside area of the car.

we disembarked in the town of talkeetna. (towel-keet-nah) i'm going to date myself, but this is the town that's said to be the inspiration for the popular 90s television show "northern exposure. it's got that character or flavor that i think many visitors envision when they think about alaska. the sign that welcomes you to town is a handmade work of art. main street is brief and colorful with a few shops, restaurants, and a roadhouse that's said to have a sourdough starter that dates back to 1902. the hotcakes are bigger than the plates they

are served on, and if you're up for it, you can try reindeer sausage. just because you're touring by land, doesn't mean you won't have the opportunity to do a little cruising. it's a great way to see kenai (key-neigh) fjords national park. mountains, glaciers.. and you just never know what kind of show the wildlife are going to put on. we spent a good chunk of our day with these guys. i tried to count.. then i asked the captain, and he said he lost count somewhere between 25 and 30 of them, including a number of youngsters. they weren't the only animals out and about, there were otters, a humpback whale, sea lions, puffins, we even spotted a bear munching on berries along shore.the denali explorer land- only pricing is $4,849 per person. fall is also a great time of year to chase the northern lights in alaska. seeing the

aurora borealis doesn't require snow or freezing temperatures. we'll have more on that, next time. ( marty )
